I have a titanium right shoulder. Good Luck. Best advice is don't rush the recovery, and stick with the therapy. Don't give it up too early. I blew out my first surgery 2 weeks after because " I felt great". Then they had to add the metal parts. That wasn't as much fun. Do the therapy. Listen to the Dr's and follow their advice. Good Luck !

It’s dead. Down and out for the count. I screwed it big time. I had used the washer under the valve cover shoulder bolts technique to stop a couple of small leaks. Worked fine except one little leak that was working it’s way down to the exhaust. Was looking forward to riding it through the weekend and decided while chatting on the phone with a friend, to “snug” that one valve cover bolt in an attempt to stop the small oil weep. Went good until I gave it the little “one more for good luck” tweak. Yea..more like major bad luck. It snapped off under the shoulder stop part. I don’t see how I can fit even an angle drill in there to drill for an easy out. Gotta pull the engine to fix it. I think that is way beyond my skill and time availability. Was going to start working on the 87 this weekend with/for my son. Seriously thinking of selling both as is and moving on… The 2nd Gens win this battle.... This sucks.

We just had my mother's 4 year mark of her passing. It was unexpected. My Dad still talks about how much he misses her on a daily basis. In the 4 short years she has been gone she has missed her Granddaughter joining the Army, being deployed, be injured (IED) Purple Heart, Combat Action Badge, getting married and her first Great Granddaughter. The loss never goes away. I feel your loss. I watch it in my father's eyes and hear it in his words every time I see him. I rode across town yesterday morning just to make him eggs and sausage breakfast. I agree. If you have your parents..cherish the time.

KIC replied to KIC's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
So the should the #2 Ground be soldered to the center ground ? I tried touching it to the center pole, and just got a loud static squeal.. Do I need a different end plug ? -

So I have a little project I would like to complete. I bought 2 male pigtails that fit into the standard tank plug. My goal is to just wire a 3.5 female stereo plug into the end. This should allow me to plug in my normal stereo plug into the tank plug and listen to the radio through my existing helmet setup. I currently listen to my Jimmy Buffett though a small music stick. QUESTION: Why can't I hear the music by just hooking the #5 (right speaker wire) and #3 (left speaker wire) wires to the female plug and then plugging my existing stereo patch wire into the 3.5 plug ? Do I need a different female receptor than a normal 3.5 female ? I have check the continuity in the wires and they are OK. I have tried it and it just doesn't work.. -

You know..you just gave me an idea. I have, and used, my suction brake bleeder. All I have to do is make the adjustable piece to lay across the fork tube opening and it would easily do the same thing. Thanks -
Not really...The voices just keep telling me that there is just mine and a few other wanna-bees..... and I would rather be an outcast..then in a cast... And it's all in good fun..until somebody pokes their eye out with a Goldwing....

Thanks for the hard work in documenting these procedures. I know I need to do that to both of mine. This will make it much, much easier. :happy65: P.S. My printer and cartridges are still recovering...

One thing you should check is on the right side of the lower triple tree. ( Left side from the front looking back) There are the two rubber spacers. If you can get your fingers down there, see if the spacers are equally tight up against the lower triple tree. I found when putting my forks back in, that there is a wiring section with a connection that fits up into a "groove like area next to the neck tube. If that isn't perfect, My lowers didn't "seat" right and firm, and wasn't cinching the rubber spacer tight. The right side was tight the left side was slightly loose and could spin. It took a few seconds to determine why. That would have made some type of glitch in the handling I am sure. I only found that by accident when I ran my fingers down there to make sure things were clear. If I would have tightened the upper bolts, the forks, triple tree would have been kinked. Once I moved it to where it was supposed to be, it cinched right up. Just a thought... -

Thanks. I did have the forks collapsed. It is a good idea with the baster.. I used a measuring device I made and a brake vacuum bleeder to "remove" if needed. The baster is an easier device. Everything I have read, and been told, is 5 1/2 inches from top. GOOD POINT !! Although the measurement is with the springs removed. I agree this should be the standard. The fluid appears to be able to leak down into the lower forks while filling , giving different measurements until they are pumped and bled for air. We read our manuals...they state to pump/bleed the lowers to REMOVE old oil, none stated to pump prior to measuring...even the Progressive directions ( we both had the same page that came with the springs.. did not say to pump/bleed AFTER the fluid install. Which brings me to my original thought/question.. Okay...but my original, $64,000.00 question is...what should the measurement be AFTER you pump out the air and re- measure the fluid ? The main point I am trying to make is once I installed the 409cc it wasn't near the 5 1/2 inches. So I filled to 5 1/2 inches in equal measurements to each side. once one side got to 5 1/2 inches, neither side was equal in measurement. Once pumped for air, I was able to get both sides to 5 1/2 inches. So there must be "draining" down into the tubes as you fill that varies from fork side to side. In order to get it to 5 1/2 inches AFTER pumping the air, I used about 444cc's or approximately 15 oz compared to the recommended 409 cc/ 13.5 oz. In the 83 we did Saturday, the owner just installed the 409 cc's which was close to the 5 1/2 inches but not equal on both sides. Once pumped they both equalized but at a little over 6 1/2 inches from the top. I am just curious as to the discrepancy in the total amounts an the final amount it should be at AFTER pumping the air out. Remember... I am an Investigator... always looking for the clear, correct answer... -

Thanks. The issue that I was trying to throw out was that I could not find anything that actually stated whether or not to pump the air out of the forks "after" putting in the fluid and measuring. Couldn't find something that matched the 409cc VS the 5 1/2-inch with the air pumped or not. It seems that there should be a statement that states Install 409cc's of fluid that should measure 5 1/2 inches from the top. Bleed air by pumping the lower shocks then measure again with the measurements being ??? from the top. It wasn't just me, there were three of us and one was even a 2nd Gen owner...
