  1. I'm a little surprised as the bike has been so solid but what sounds like a serious noise has begun on my 86. While at cruising speed, if I lean in to a turn (either direction) I hear a howling noise that stops as soon as I straighten up. (rear wheel bearings ???) More recently I noticed that when coasting to a stop with the clutch lever in, I hear what actually sounds like gear mesh noise. I have also noticed that as the bike slows down, I feel and hear a vibration at around 15 mph. I am thinking rear wheel bearings or u joints?
  2. +1 I never checked my flashers but this is what fixed my turn signals.
  3. Are you using the Yamaha fuel filter or something else?
  4. OK. I'm confused. The OP says that it happens in first and second gear. Why has everyone zeroed in on the infamous second gear problem?
  5. So now that I know that I don't have an oil pressure switch, has anyone successfully added either an idiot light or a gauge?
  6. Thats a new name. Is that better for a carb that is running poorly. Do you run it in the gas like seafoam?
  7. Nahhhh. It didn't work the first time. It wont work the second time either. You are putting too much faith in the Seafoam.
  8. Thanks. Thats what I suspected. Ray
  9. I believe that SeaFoam is more of a problem preventer than a problem fixer. I think that some people put to much faith in it's healing abilities. I have tried it in everything from weed eaters to car engines and it hasn't fixed a problem yet. It probably does do a good job of keeping things clean if they start out that way and I do think that it helps our low quality gas but in my experience, nothing is as good as an old fashioned disassembly and carb cleaning.
  10. The day was just too nice and the VR was rockin. I got home 120 miles later! Looking outside, today looks pretty good too. hmmmmm...I need more gas http://www.raymondstacy.com/vr.jpg
  11. My Gen 1 started doing the same thing at 52K. Skydoc17 sent me the parts. It was one of the easiest jobs that I have done on my bike. Better than new now.
  12. This thread is very good. The DIN connector PDF file pretty much tells you everything that you need. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44070 Check my post in this thread http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=63638 Use the switch from FRYS. Its easier and better than the relay. If you want, bring it to Rochester. I would be happy to help. Ray http://www.raymondstacy.com/pinout.jpg
  13. I removed the casette player and did the wiring mods found on this site to get an aux input. Give me a few minutes and I will post the links.
  14. I know that I am not an engine expert but it would seem to me that pouring it directly in to the carbs of a running engine will cause the sea foam to just get sucked in to the cylinders and bypass all of the carb jets and passages that you want it to clean. Am I wrong?
  15. I agree with Jeff. Just a few inches of tygon (weed eater gas line) will do the trick.
  16. Back to black and Nu-Vinyl didn't do it. It made the black areas really nice but the white spots were still there. I had nothing to lose so I shot it with some ABS black paint that I had. It looks great! Thanks guys. Ray
  17. Wizard, My experience has been that they don't fall out, they break off. I had to take the coil apart and push out the broken piece that was still in there. It wasn't a big deal to get it out. The rod that you want is 2mm (.080) in diameter and 500mm (19.7) long. You can get a piece of music wire at any decent hobby shop. I see that you live in Caledonia. Performance Hobbies in Webster or Dan's Crafts and Things will have what you want for a couple of dollars. Install the wire with 465mm exposed. You may want to bend a small loop at the end just in case somebody tries to poke themselves. Ray
  18. The black plastic on my bike has white splotches on it. See picture. I have tried various cleaners, rubbing compounds, and polish to get it off but nothing has touched it. Is this normal for the aging material and other than paint, is there a way to get it black again? Ray
  19. Yes that does work much better than the top search option. Thank you!!!
  20. I'm having a problem with my bike pulling to the left when I let go of the handle bars. I wanted to search the problem before I made a post asking about it. For the first search I entered "bike pulls to the left" The search engine returned a list starting with this http://www.raymondstacy.com/search.jpg OK. Nothing good there Then I enter "pulling to the left" The search engine returned a list starting with this http://www.raymondstacy.com/search1.jpg Again no good. Finally I decide to do a new thread about the pulling and when I start the thread I get some great leads that I didn't see in the previous search. At least two of the suggestions had to do with the bike pulling left. http://www.raymondstacy.com/search3.jpg I remember a thread telling us how to use the search engine. So I enter "Search help" The search engine returned a list starting with this http://www.raymondstacy.com/search2.jpg It has been my experience that the the new thread suggestion are better than the search engine. I'm sure that it is me. What am I doing wrong???
  21. Got it. I will mail it out on Monday. Take your time. Ray
  22. I would like to order a 5-3/4 " patch
  23. Just send me your address in a private message and I will send you the parts. You can send them back when done or maybe we can make a deal on them. Ray
  24. I'm pretty sure that I have an amp that I can let you borrow to see if that is your problem. This thread will point you in the right direction on you how to get an audio input jack in place of the cassette player. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=63638
