  1. Thanks Condor. Got my battery today. Now, can you send some warmth and sunshine? RR PS. Yeah, you probably can. It will just take 3 months for it to get here.
  2. Take 40 to OK City and south to Dallas. Go East on 20 and pick up the Natchez Trace Parkway in Jackson, MS. This will run you up almost to Nashville, TN (you will be back on 40). East on 40 to Knoxville. Ride around the Smokey Mountain National Park - including the Tail of the Dragon - NC129 - www.dealsgap.com. Pick up the Blue Ridge Parkway just east of the Smokey Mountains and take it all the way to Roanoke, VA. These are some of the best motorcycle roads east of the Mississippi River. There are great Bed & Breakfasts to stay all along the way. If you are staying in the Smokey Mountain area, I recommend a stay at the Iron Horse Lodge in Stecoah, NC. Just Google for info. You should have a great trip. Spend a little money for a good trip planning software. I use Microsoft Streets and Trips and find it works great for planning. I then plot the determined route into my GPS (or print out the maps pre-GPS). Ride safely - print out the VR member list and take it along. You never know when you may need a hand, a bed, or a beer - or directions to the closest DQ. RR
  3. You probably can, however, you would look really silly with a ski boot on your head. RR
  4. Get a Venture - Gen2 of course. My father used the J&M unit for a CB and AM/FM. It also has an aux input for a MP3 player. I don't know what model. Works well. RR
  5. The great Socialist Republic of Wisconsin knows it is better for us to be sheep than safe. They have come within 1 vote to overriding a (lame) Governer's veto. The one guy that switched his vote to sustain the veto was summarially voted out of office. You would think the pols would notice. I am patiently waiting for the Supreme Court results from a recent case. It seems someone finally challenged the 'no handguns for anyone' laws in DC as being against the 2nd Amendment. Should be interesting to hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth when all the gun restrictions come tumbling down. It will also be interesting to hear the silence from the same wailing wonks when they find violent crime goes down once citizens are able to protect themselves on an equal basis with the human debris that is preying on them. Wow, time for more coffee. Sorry for the soapbox. Rant off. RR
  6. Just got in from the game. VERY cold. Many layers and chemical hand/toe warmers. Giants played a good game. Cheered for the Pack, of course. Well, time for the tractor watch to see if Brett is coming back. Good luck against the Pats. RR
  7. We're having a great big meet and eat in Green Bay tomorrow. Supposed to be -5F!!! I just got 2 tickets from a friend because it is too cold for them. My son and I will enjoy watching Brett tear apart the frozen Giants. GO PACK!!! RR BTW - Beware of the Adventure Riders website (www.advrider.com). The ride reports are addicting. Because of reading this website, I am actively looking for a Kawasaki KLR650 to do some off road touring. This is nuts.
  8. I you chat with some of the seat makers they will customize a seat that will make the GW very comfortable. I have a friend that is a solid 7' (played center for Tulane - Go Green Wave!!) that rides a GW. He had the seat made and added some highway board extensions. I sat on it and couldn't even reach the highway boards - and I am 6'4" with 34" inseam. However, in the end .... it's still not a Venture. Kit, hang around. We enjoy your witty and insightful comments. However, be careful of challanging the first gen 1200 motor. It's a screamer. Although, the laws of physics might help you on this on - that 1800 has a lot of horses. RR
  9. It seems he doesn't know what he has. I think that is a Corbin seat - at least the passenger backrest doesn't look stock. And it appears it has a set of slip-ons which might be what he is refering to with the 'custom exhaust' comment. Looks like a nice bike for someone at a pretty reasonable price. Lots of miles left on this one. RR
  10. I like the curves on that ..... bike. RR
  11. Very nice. Now, just add the Carbon One lift adapter (spring for the extra few bucks and get the model with legs). It is money well spent. RR
  12. It's those big flaps we use to close off heated areas when it is cold. This prevents extremely large California birds and small rodents from infiltrating our bike storage areas. RR
  13. It appears you run with an extended fuel tank. Was it as easy to hook up as it would seem (run it to a junction right before the petcock)? RR
  14. RoadRunner, Rider, Cycle World. RR
  15. Brad and Lonna - Glad you two are OK. Do you think this is something - finally - that Seafoam can't fix? RR
  16. We are going over the July 4th week. Can't wait. It is time to start laying in the routing and getting reservations at B&Bs. RR
  17. It is actually your butt that is squeeking. Grease at your own risk!!! The rear shock does that until you get the bike moving and the lube in the shock gets spread around. I believe Rick Butler has done some extensive research into this problem including cutting away an old shock and putting together a methodology to add lube to the shock. However, the squeeking goes away once you get moving. RR
  18. My understanding is to wait until at least 8 yo. Before that time, children lose their ability to balance when they fall asleep. Hence, young children falling out of bed, when older children do not. Once over 8 or so, they can sleep sitting up and not pitch over. This may be a bunch of bs, but it sounds logical. RR
  19. Seafoam is a magic elixer that solves all motorcycle engine problems!! Actually, it is a good fuel system cleaner that has proven itself in solving minor, fuel related issues. Cheap insurance to run a can thru every 5 or 10 tanks. Just put a whole can in an empty tank and top off with fuel. Don't worry about the instructions (calls for a few oz. per tank) - dump the whole thing in there. My guess is that it will not solve the issue you have. Check the coil and wires. If you have a garage, turn off all the lights, look down where the plug wires are, and crank it. You will be looking for sparks between the wires and the engine case. You never know what critter was chewing on those wires while it was sitting outside. Sound like you are close to having a great bike with a lot of life left in it. Welcome to the VentureRider family. RR
  20. Good thing those 2nd Gen's have carb heaters!! RR
  21. Tim, If this type of car top carrier will work for you, I have one just like it for the taking. If you come get it, it is yours. RR
  22. 317.3 after about 15 tries. Struck out many times. RR
  23. Does anyone else find this scary coming from 'Straight Pipe'? :rotf: RR
  24. Top to bottom - pretty accurate to my choices. McCain, Thompson, Hunter on top - Kucinich, clinton, Dodd, and Gravel (who the heck is this anyway?) at the bottom - where they belong!! RR
  25. All I know is that if you are cruising at 50 mph and need to get around a guy quickly, the bike enjoys being dropped into 3rd for acceleration. It will kick to 75 in a hurry allowing you to jump to 4th. If you need more speed than that - you should have waited for a bigger passing lane. Welcome to the best bike and forum around. RR
