  1. I have searched Google and all I can find is "my cousin Ed's best friend Bob's father-in-law works with a guy who said...." kinda stuff on the negative side. I cannot find anything from anyone who has personally used MotorKote and experienced negative side effects from it. Maybe I just don't know how to search Google. If you can provide some FIRST HAND reports please post them. If not, then my personal opinion is that you are doing us a disservice by posting hearsay evidence. The actual experiences of users of this product (like many posted on this site) are valuable, not hearsay. Not trying to start a war here, I just want some documentation if it is out there.
  2. That's a big 10-4!!! I'm staying away from that road rain or shine!!
  3. Well, I decided to be the "test subject" for the new Shinko touring tires. My old Metzler 880's (which came on the bike when I bought it) were crappola. I've never seen a rear tire with such a "sawtooth" wear pattern. It's hard to describe, but I think you could use it as a large sawblade and cut paneling with it. The shop that changes my tires had never seen anything like it either. Rode ok in a straight line on smooth pavement, but curves weren't even fun anymore....bike vibrated like crazy with just a small amount of lean. Plenty of tread left but couldn't stand those tires anymore. Anyway, I had my shop order and install the new Tourmaster 230's. I've only got about 100 miles on them so far but will be putting a bunch of miles on this coming weekend on our Southern Indiana trip. Thus far I am impressed. Smooth....quiet....seem to grip well. And SO responsive. The bike seems to know which way I want to turn before I do....just a small input on the handlebar and the bike responds instantly. I didn't realize how much effort it took to turn with the old tires on it. Granted, any new tire will seem to be great when compared to ones like I was running. I will keep everyone posted on how these tires work out. At present you can order a set for the 2nd gens from Pinwall Cycle for $163 delivered anywhere in the USA. That's not a typo, $163 for BOTH front and rear.
  4. What's a ride without a little moisture??? :big-grin-emoticon: Hope that doesn't scare anybody away.
  5. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/1023/cat/7 Go for it!
  6. If the wiring pigtail on the lightbar has only 3 wires, then you cannot integrate turnsignals. If there are 4 or 5 then you can have turnsignals too.
  7. You are right, they don't have the I-Basket in any of the fiche materials. I called Partshark and talked to Chris. He then called the service manager at Flatout Motorcycles and got the Yamaha part number for the I-Basket from him. That part number is 4XY-16150-09-00 if anyone needs it. Do a Google search on the part number and take a gawk at some of the prices listed. I saw some in the $400 range. Geesh.
  8. $230 would be a bargain. Cheapest I found it was from partshark.com and it was $265 shipped. Funny thing is, if you go to any online parts fiche and lookup the price on the standard clutch basket those are about $170. Can you say RIPOFF?
  9. Care to share where you got that info? I haven't seen it.
  10. Well then, give them these instructions since they evidently don't know the efficient method of removal/reinstallation: 1. Remove the basket cover. Nothing else needs to be removed. Do not drain oil, just let teh bike lean on it's kickstand. All bolts can be removed using a ball-end allen wrench. 2. Remove the 6 bolts holding the clutch spring in place. Remove said spring. 3. Pull out the small tension shaft (can't remember its proper name) and ball from end of clutch shaft. 4. Slide off clutch friction disks and steel disks. 5. Remove nut holding clutch boss and basket in place (use 30mm socket). 6. Slide off clutch boss. 7. Slide off clutch basket. Reassemble in reverse order. Torque nut to 50 ft/lbs. How can that be 3 hours?? It really fries me when dealers try to do this.
  11. 3 HOURS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?????? NO FRIGGIN WAY, JOSE!! I just changed my own a couple weeks ago. First time always takes longer when you're doing mechanical work, after that it is quicker. Took me under an hour total. That is a 1 hour job tops! And that's for a lazy slob who isn't motivated to help the customer. I can't believe this. You have a JERK for a dealer. Tell you what....just tell them to give you your old basket and take it back home with you. I'll loan you the tools you need to change it and give you instructions with pictures. You will be amazed what they tried to pull on you. 3 HOURS!!!!! :Bunny2:
  12. From your link: And you also said: Something doesn't add up here....you're worried about the possible small effect of coffee on your cholesterol, but continue to smoke? OK, now who's ? :whistling:
  13. Think I read that V7Goose has been analyzing some "bad" coils and has found that they really don't seem to be bad. He suspects that the connection at the spark plug may be bad, or the plug cap itself may be the culprit. Might want to shoot him a pm and see if he can shed more light.
  14. Nice job, Lewis! That is one fine lookin' piece of plastic ya got there!
  15. Often times we are quick to criticize dealers or ebay sellers for poor service, dishonesty, or other issues. I have had a very positive experience with an ebay seller of used motorcycle parts and wanted to let you know that this is a person/business that has impressed me. The seller's ebay ID is "motorcycle_parts_4_sale", and I think they are based out of Utah. I bought a part from them through ebay a little over a week ago. Not a big deal, only came to about $22 including the shipping. I received the package this past Saturday, delivered by FedEx. When I opened the box I found that the part had been broken in shipment. The box showed no signs of damage. I then looked closely at how it was packaged, and it was obvious to me that the shipper didn't properly cushion the part to prevent damage. I took pictures of the part, of the box, and of the packaging materials used. I then emailed those pictures to the seller and stated that if he had another one of these items on hand I would like for him to send it to me as a replacement. If not, then I wanted a complete refund to include the shipping charges. To be honest, I kind of expected an argument. But what I got was a reply email apologizing for their error and the damage. I also got an almost immediate refund of all charges, no questions asked. The other thing that impressed me about this seller was that they immediately posted positive feedback for me as soon as they received payment. They didn't wait until after I posted feedback for them like so many sellers do. Needless to say, they will receive the highest feedback possible from me. Anyone can make a mistake, the good ones will acknowledge it and fix the problem. In my opinion, you can't go wrong buying from 'motorcycle_parts_4_sale'. I'm not associated with this seller in any way. This was my first experience with them, and I just want to give praise where praise is due.

  17. I can't answer your question, maybe the folks at MotorKote can. Why don't you ask them, they are pretty responsive. https://www.motorkote.com/ContactUs.aspx Even have a toll free number: 1.888.771.5656 If you find the answer, please post it here so we all know.
  18. Aha! There's the issue. I'm talking about the 15" rigid one, mounts between the helmet holders. I know which one you are talking about now, my brain is no longer foggy! Joe
  19. Hmmmm......the wiring on my light bar (made by Innovative Products, same as the one sold by Chrome Glow) goes into the center of the back of the light, not at the end. Why did you have to drill a hole in the trunk? I don't quite get that...did you mount in right on the trunk or under it? Mine is mounted between the helmet locks underneath the trunk. Ran my wiring over to the right side and along the inside of the trunk mounting rack brackets. No drilling required.
  20. Here ya go.... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=38635&highlight=southern+indiana+ride
  21. Seems there's always 2 sides to a story, huh?? Just glad they responded to ediddy so quickly and politely, and have already shipped a replacement set of mirrors. Since I plan to purchase a set of those at some point, I'm glad to see this.
  22. Can you tell me what brand you bought? When you say you cut the coaxial cables and installed both, I'm assuming you had to install connectors of some sort?
  23. Oh, almost forgot.....are you going to be able to make our Southern Indiana weekend Oct 2nd-4th??? Will that Wing make it that far? If not, just ride the Kowsucker. :rasberry::rotf:
  24. Well, I think you'll probably see me there. But it'll be YOU doing the paying! I'm more convinced than ever....no 3rd gen Venture with the V4. (but I've been wrong once or twice before). But, if there is no 3rd Gen, then my 2nd gen will alway be "current"!
  25. If we have it there, I will bust my butt to get there! I've been to Mountain Home once, on a 5 day trip to/thru Arkansas. I Loved your town and the area. Also loved the "World's Best Hamburger" at the Back 40. Ever eat there? Joe
