  1. I asked my wife if this would work on my new Black Beauty, since it was kind of a birthday present, and she said only if she could get one for her Ford Taurus! So I went to the drugstore and bought two new batteries for my garage remote, and now it is what it is! Besides, I'd have to install one of those Bad Boys to get it to work at my house! Brian
  2. Now that's a good idea!! Better yet just go to the dollar store and get a nice big plastic bowl for chips and use that. not for chips, for the oil drain. the garage is pretty much my man cave, she wouldn't know what I was doin out there if she was home! adn don't forget the beers!
  3. Thanks Rick, that's what Goose said earlier, and it makes sense. Short of just doing an oil change to correct it, I don't think I can just loosen the drain plug without it coming all the way out and letting all the oil out. I guess I could buy a new drain pan and just recycle the oil. Supposedly it was just changed about 500 miles ago by the dealer. Great learning all this stuff from all you venturers! Brian
  4. This is a great thread, because I've had my bike a little over two weeks now, and when propped up as straight as I can get it the oil level glass is full to the top! It only appears at about the 2/3 mark when on the kickstand. the dealer I bought it from said they had serviced it, and the oil in the glass looks fairly new, but I checked my hoses on my lunch break and didn't see any oil on any of them. I didn't look for blowback on the rear shock, but I don't think there is any. I've been looking under it for signs of any kind of leaks and can't see any, so would you all recommend I remove some oil, like was suggested, remove the oil filter and drain it and put it back on? I had the same problem on my triumph, the dealer put too much oil in and the airbox was leaking like a sieve.... any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Brian
  5. Condor, if I may ask, do you buy your tires online and have them shipped to your home or buy local and just pick them up? Learning how to do it myself sounds like a project for the future, but having someone professional do it at your prices is worth it! thanks! BigDawg
  6. Goose, thanks for that info! I'm interested to know what most of you do when 2/up and trunk and saddlebags are loaded for a long trip? AND, what is the proper tool to use for both front and rear shocks. Is there one tool that works as you describe Goose, or do I need to purchase two? Does adding the air make the 2/up fully loaded ride more comfortable, or is it even necessary? Using the air gauge that is in the tool kit I get zero on all three right now, so I'm wondering if I need to put some air in for riding 2/up, which is why I bought this beautiful machine in the first place! Any comments are appreciated! BigDawg P.S. How do you put those weather and US maps at the bottom of your post?
  7. I see you are in Flint, MI. My bro and his wife live in Vernon where we grew up. Mom is in a home in Chesaning. we'll be visiting next week, getting a taste of the winter I remember as a kid! So I'll see what I can do with this game this weekend, got a couple rides planned. Semper Fi! Brian
  8. Seaking, any chance we could see some night time pics of your setup? Rear lighting is still on my list of upgrades, so I'm still investigating what others on here have done. Picture is worth 1000 words, right? thanks! Brian
  9. Brian in beautiful sunny SoCal, about 72 degrees presently, making a Patriot Guard HOTH run tomorrow, since I don't really want to go back and read 75 pages of posting, what's this all about and what do I need to do to be a part of it? Sorry for the long winter, although I will be in Michigan visiting my 89 year young mom from 2-16 - 2-23, so I'll get a taste of it....grew up in, somedays I'd rather be there than in all this gridlock traffic in SoCal....anyway, I'm not trying to rub it in but I'm riding all weekend in the 70's!! What's up with this game? Brian
  10. That's quite a list RedRider, but I just took care of number 8! Looking forward to learning tons of stuff and maybe even sharing something worthwhile. So far it's been a great place to make some upgrade decisions. BigDawg
  11. CALIFORNIA is kinda like the 'stealers', the C stands for Cash! no really, it's because ofthe added emission BS the state requires. No C. No registration here, unless it's used with a bunchof miles... BigDawg in SoCal...but the added cost provides us sunshine to ride this weekend!
  12. DanC, I've never heard of a magnetic drain plug, you obviously use it, does it work as well as the website claims it does? thanks! another new guy BigDawg Brian in Carlsbad, CA '06 RSV MV
  13. Good for them! If I was a public figure with a TV show I'd be roasting her a$$! The NFL should be fined for letting her butcher OUR National Anthem!! Semper Fi! BigDawg USMC MSgt Retired, 1975 - 1999 '06 RSV Midnight Venture
  14. I'm kinda a new guy here, first Yamaha, I've got an '06 RSV MV, and your talk of pulling the cassete player for an mp3 got my ear...how'd you do that and how hard was it? Got pics? Seeing this thread is almost a year old, you might not answer real soon, but that's okay..I've got plenty of upgrades to do...this is just one of them.. how do you like your headsets? gotta do that too! thanks! Brian 2006 Yamaha Royal Star Venture Midnight Venture Carlsbad, CA
  15. from one 'ol Marine to another, that's funny!!
  16. Beer30, new guy BigDawg looking for liners for my new '06 RSV MV. These posts are kinda old, so do you still have a set, what do they look like and how much are they? I've been looking all over on line but some are better than others..the yamaha inserts are kinda pricey... any help is much appreciated! BigDawg in sunny SoCal
  17. I just picked up my 2006 RSV MV on Friday at a dealer in San Juan Capistrano, CA. The fancy brochure they had for the 2010 RSVS had a guy pictured with a 2000 RSV with 300,000 miles, and he claimed the engine had never been touched. Stop by your local Yamaha dealer and you can probably see the brochure. My "new" '06 has 5400 miles, I better get ridin! Can somebody tell me where to go to get the fancy icons for the weather and the USA map and the PGR logo, etc and put it in my profile? Or do I need to be a paying member for all that? Ride Easy! Brian
  18. Nice looking bike! I just picked up my '06 on Friday, the missus is calling her the "Black Beauty", and I have to agree with her, she is indeed a beauty! Now where can I get a luggage rack and how difficult is it to install it? Semper Fi! Brian
  19. Howdy folks! Brand new to the forums, brand new to riding a RSV MV as of last Friday! I'm hoping to put some upgrades on real soon and I need your knowledge and wisdom please! I've looked at the Kuryakyn highway pegs, not sure to go with the 7976 or I believe it's the 7980's. Also very interested in putting a luggage rack on, any great prices you know of out there and tips to doing it without destroying the trunk? I'm fairly able with tools, but some of this stuff I've never done before, and too many times I fail to read the instructions! Anyway, those are a couple things I want to do right away, as well as comm gear for the missus and me to talk and listen to tunes as we roll on down the highway! Any help is much appreciated! Ride Easy, Ride Often, Ride Safe! BigDawg
  20. I'm BigDawg, the new guy, and just surfing the forums for knowledge. My '06 MV has just over 5K on it, so based on my readings here those original brakes should give me 20K or so, is that about right? I've never done a bike brake job, so that would be a new adventure when the time comes. What pads do most of you use after your originals wear out? Sounds like some of you keep spares around just in case, you obviously are riding a lot more than I have the time for right now, but it sounds like a good goal, wearing out brake pads every year! thanks for your input and advice, it's always good to hear it from other guys who have done it! S/F BigDawg
