  1. My ST1300 had linked brakes, The rear applied 66% to rear and 33% to front. the front applied 66% to front and 33% to rear. I never once locked the rear brake or fish tailed on that bike and it would stop on a dime and give you change back. Short of ABS I think it is the perfect set up.
  2. As a ER RN I have to agree this is some good information. However Operative Words are CARDIAC ARREST. As mentioned before airway obstructions should be cleared if unsure of cause of the person's collapse. As mentioned in the video a person only uses a small portion of the oxidized blood with each complete cycle of circulation. Infants less than 3 months use even less as they have more viable red blood cells. I think the amount that is used is about 15% but don't quote me on that. I do CPR on a fairly regular basis and their instructions as to keeping the elbows locked and letting your weight of your trunk do the work is spot on. By doing this you can maintain compressions for a much much longer time. Without using this technique I don't care how good of shape you are in you can only maintain adequate circulation for 1-2 minutes at best if you relay on your physical strength. The glucose in your muscles will deplete and although you may be strong you have no stamina left. If you are relaying on physical strength and you can last more than 2 minutes you are probable not doing it correctly. You want to almost be able to feel the backbone on compressions. HARD & FAST Circulation is key, without adequate circulation if they do survive they may wake up a carrot, or radish. (but not a tomato, that's a fruit unless of coarse they were a fruit before hand) Also one last thing. I find that Queen's ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST works better for me as for the correct rhythm. It has a better more prominent drum /base line to follow.
  3. I have ridden in weather that cold. I was on a two day road trip and had to make it back home that night. I had on every piece of clothing I had with me. My hands and feet got a bit cold but other than that not too bad. The day warmed into the 40's so I was OK. Not something a intentionally try to do. I try to cut it off below 40 degrees. I definitely cut it off below freezing. I don't do ICE!
  4. I just saw an ICM on Ebay and was wondering if there is a difference in the ICM of these two bikes. The reason I ask is the Honda Valkyries the ICM is different between the Interstate and the Standard or Tourer. The Interstate has a little bit more spark advance in the mid range RPM which give a bit more power in that area. I put a Interstates ICM on my Tourer and it is quite a noticeable improvement. No more flat spot. Much more linear power-band. Just Curious. Still trying to learn everything I can about this bike. Tom
  5. I've never heard of one that the GPS read a HIGHER speed than the bike. Most all the bike shows a higher speed. Reasoning is $$$$$ If the manufacturer made a error where all read slower than actual speed there would inevitable be a class action suit where so many people got SPEEDING TICKETS or worse someone was Killed because of "excessive speed" when they "thought" they were going slower. The closest bike I have ever had is my Valkyrie which is off 1mph at 70 mph. Most all other Valks and other bikes are averaging 5-10%. However.... Most Odometers are still more accurate it seems if you actually check it against a known distance or GPS. (they are still not absolute) Again $$$$$ is the reason. If the Odometer read as the speedometer then the bike would show higher mileage than is actually on it so for legal and resale purposes it needed to be accurate or you can bet there would be lawsuits about that too. LIFE WOULD BE SO MUCH SIMPLER WITHOUT LAWYERS OR BIG BROTHER TRYING TO "PROTECT US"
  6. I have bought several parts for my various bikes from them and always happy with the product. I did have one product get lost by UPS, I called them about it and they OVERNIGHTED me a replacement no questions asked. Customer service on the phone is top notch, I agree with the comments about their website. Very difficult to find anything on it.
  7. I will probable one day replace the springs as suggested. When I do How do I tell if it is the H or I basket, and which part is the actually part that it refers to? I read the instructions that were attached above but still don't understand where to find the markings or even exactly which part is considered the culprit. I did see that the dealer wanted $330. to do the job though. That's a bit too pricey if you ask me. Thanks as always, Tom
  8. I've recently purchased a 07 RSTD with just a bit over 40,000 miles. I've read about some having to replace the CLUTCH BASKET and it being under warranty. I've recently changed the oil just to know it had been changed and what was in it. I replaced the oil with Full Synthetic Mobil 10-40 High Mileage formula (non energy conserving) I had noticed the slipping feeling before the oil change but do not know what oil was in it) The reason I ask is I have experienced what feels like a clutch slipping under hard acceleration. I am not sure if this is a idiosyncrasy of this bike or if it is actually slipping and/or will need replacing in the future. My wife's HD Fatboy has the same feeling too when I run it hard and it only has 8,000. miles on it. I had always attributed the feeling to its belt drive stretching. At 8000 miles I doubt it is slipping, and it runs out really well but he HP and Torque #'s are no where near the TD's or Valkyrie's. (all work on it has been done by a dealer.) Since the TD is a shaft drive I would expect it to feel like my Valkyrie which once engaged in a gear it stays no slipping under hard acceleration at all. Just lots of torque. Both the TD and the Valkyrie have hydraulic clutches, the TD is a much lighter feel than the Valkyrie so is it safe to assume the clutch springs on the Valk are heaver to deal with the extra torque? 2ND ??? What are the symptoms of the CLUTCH BASKET needing to be replaced and HOW CAN I TELL IF IT HAS BEEN DONE OR WHCH BASKET IS IN MY BIKE? Thanks for all the help, Tom
  9. If you still have the Mustang I would be interested in swapping for my OEM seat from a 07 TD.
  10. Mine is 005584 only 97 away from the one that needed the work. I went to Yamaha Tuesday to have the warranty changed over to my name. They told me it would be about 10 days before I receive the official papers. Guess I need to get them to check into this. Tom
  11. I think backfirein on decel is a sign of too lean a mixture brought on by less back pressure, You may need a richer jet or at least to turn up the pilot screw a bit. I would start with the pilot screw 1st as it does not require tearing into the carbs. This is something I hope to advoid. To
  12. Thanks for the Info and the sound clips, I especially like having the before and after clips on the same bike. Makes it easier to compare rather than sound coming from my laptop speakers vs the bike. I went by my local HD dealer today that I do a good bit of business with. Talked to the service guy who say they give theirs away to a guy to just haul them off and he didn't have any at present. Said to check with the sister dealership as they have more storage area. Asked him about the Street Glide pipes and he pulled up the part # and they are the exact same muffler. As stated earlier I have a full set of Street Glide exhaust system hanging in my garage so my next work break in two weeks I may try this. However to me the HD pipes are not as pretty as the Yamaha pipes so I am looking for a solid chrome cover to slide over it. I have the slash cut of these on my Valkyrie and they look and sound AWESOME!!! I 've had several people come up to me and tell me how AWESOME they sound. I've even had a couple of HD riders approach me to listen and complement the look and sound. http://search.store.yahoo.net/yhst-62818268114394/cgi-bin/nsearch?catalog=yhst-62818268114394&query=Valkyrie&.autodone=http%3A%2F%2Fstore.airflo.com%2F Those are 4 inch in diameter. Anyone know where I could find maybe a 3 inch diameter pipe like these. I was thinking about drilling some holes along the side of the HD muffler then wrapping it in Exhaust fiberglass or what have you to take up the extra space then covering it with the larger outer pipe in effect making it a double wall construction to help with any bluing issues. Thoughts and suggestion would be welcome. Thanks Tom
  13. Very Sweet, Thats the tone I am looking for. Gotta ask, How did you have the camera mounted that it vibated so bad when you reved it up?
  14. Okay so they both have the same link. Since my bike seem to handle pretty well for me; How can I tell if it has the Leveling Link or the standard OEM link? Today is my 3rd day with the bike. I bought it Saturday. Filled up, added some Seafoam and rode it 170 mile home. (42 mpg) Sunday I adjusted the shocks some, rode a little filled back up with gas added some more Seafoam and cleaned a lot. Bike is running better every time I start it up. Gotta love Seafoam! Today weather was iffy ( rain threatening) so I took the long way home from the dealer which was closed. 65 miles later I am back at home. While at the closed dealers parking lot I took advantage of the situation and did some Low Speed Maneuvers while there. Was able to do some low speed 360,720, 1080 , figure 8's ...etc. (you get the idea) I couldn't quit do the lock to lock but only because I could not reach full lock with the handle bars. I think I see a Flanders in my future.!! So like I said, I am very happy with how she handle so far but if I can make it better I will be even happier... So back to my question... How do I tell if my link is OEM or a Leveling Link? Tom
  15. I edited them so hopefully they are working now.
  16. So are they loud unmodified or just deeper. I guess I need to run up to my local HD dealer that I have spend a lot of money with recently and see if they have any take offs that I can get from them. Also thanks for the reminder... I just became a paying full fledged member. Gonna go balance my carbs now. Changed the oil and cleaned the air filters last night after I accidentally locked myself out of the house for a while waiting on the SO to get home. (funny story) Tom
  17. Thanks for your quick input. Another quick question. I just sold a Street Glide, It had an aftermarket Rush pipe on it and I liked it. Deeper but not obnoxious. (whats the point of having a stereo if you cant hear it) Anyway, the previous owner still had the original pipes which I obtained. Is there a difference between the Street Glide and the Road King pipes. They look smaller to me. ALSO : I saw and lost a link to a individual who modified the stock RSTD pipes retaining the OEM look which I like. Any idea's on who or where that is or if they are any good. ?
  18. Okay more questions. #1 I have been reading about the improved handling with the Leveling Link, but I only see it advertised or mentioned on the Venture and not the RSTD. I noticed on my RSTD it has a link on the rear shock. Is the Leveling Link available for the RSTD or is it only for the Venture ( I am a little unclear on this)? And to be honest , so far I have been happy with the handling of the bike but if I can make it better I would like to do so. #2 Slipping the forks? Looking at the forks on the RSTD I I raised the forks doesn't the Schrader Valves on top of the forks hit the bottom of the handle bar? I don't see how this works without the bar interfering. Anyone with Photos? Thanks again. Tom
  19. Okay been doing A LOT of reading here and have a few questions about the HD mufflers. Below are two links to modified mufflers I found on Flea Bay. What does everyone here recommend? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280591168920&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280590683985&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT Stock HD mufflers? Stock HD mufflers, Modified/punched Link #1 (Max Performance) Link #2 (Super Flow) If recommending the Super Flow, What size baffle would work best for this bike? I want DEEPER and a little LOUDER, but NOT outrageously loud Would any of these require re jetting? Thanks in Advance. Tom
  20. Thanks, That is exactly what I was looking for. I will definately be spending a lot of time here so be prepared for lots of questions. Tom PS: So far I LOVE THIS BIKE!!!!
  21. Hey I just picked my bike up yesterday. I picked it up at a good price so I didn't expect it to be perfect. I like to do my own wrenching and I have worked on my Valkyrie till it is nearly perfect (except for some minor electrical (lights) issues.) Motor wise it runs perfectly. I sync'd my carb's on it . (all 6 of them) So I am familiar with the process. What I am not familiar with is the RSTD's carbs and fancy plumbing. I downloaded a service manual and a owners manual but have not had time to fully read it. Can you point me to where the adjustment screws and such are on these carbs. Just glancing at them it looks like the front right is the base carb. Is that right? Any advice or photos would be appreciated. I also plan on doing a complete fluid change, lube the splines and new shoes for her. I ran some Seafoam through the 1st tank and little Marvel Mystery oil in the crank case. She is already running better! Thanks for any advice. Tom
  22. I am in Spanish Fort, Al. I guess I started rideing when gas was around .30 cents per gallon but I didn't own a bike until I think it was '82. The 1st "Gas Crisis". I was in the Service (Army) then about 20 years as a LEO. Left that started my own business as a Wedding and Portrait Photographer which is something I had been doing since 1980 but it became a job rather than something I enjoyed doing so I went back to school and got my RN licenses. I currently work in the ER at the local Childrens Hospital. Married to wife #4 (and the last), I have 1 beautiful wife and home, 3 kids and she has 3, between us we have 12 grand kids., 3 dogs, and 3 bikes. I guess 3 is my lucky #. She is also a RN. Basically we work so we can travel. (and eat, and have a roof over our heads, and clothes on or back, and food on the table) I guess we don't work to travel after all, but that is out passion. Life is good!!!
  23. Thank you for all the answers. I will definately get some photos when I pick the bike up Saturday. I will be riding it home about 170 miles so I am going to get some seafoam and add to the tank then top it off before I leave. I may also add some Techtron or I have also had good luck with Marvel Mystery Oil. I have a Harley Davidson pump that I was getting ready to put up on Ebay. Glad I procrastinated now. I understand about the square cut gears and the whine. My other bike is a Valkyrie which also has the square gears. I have used different types of oil and have found that Mobil 1 in the differential and the engine/transmission has quietened it down a bit. I will definately be checking out the shocks and putting it up on the rack as soon as I get home. I love to wrench on bikes but I also like having a bike I don't have to turn a wrench on unless I want to. I usually do all my own maintaince short of a engine rebuild. I have done carbs before and built a home made carb sync tool for the Valk as it has 6 carbs to sync. ( now thats a bugger) Looking forward to a lot of idea exchanging. I will be joining the forum for sure. Tom
  24. Hello all I obviously am new here as this is my 1st post. I am in the process of purchasing an 07 model. 1st Question: Can anyone tell me the proper pressure for the front and rear shocks? I read the front takes no more than 7 and that 3 is a good place to start but I havent found anything on the rear. The bike has been sitting for a couple of months so I will probable need adjusting. 2nd question: What years are the 1st generation vs the second generations that I see people talking about and what are the differences? 3rd question: Is there a 3rd generation? 4th question: Is there any major issues I should look for or check. the bike has 40,000+ miles. 5th question: Is there a limit as to how many questions I can ask per post? Thanks in advance as I am sure there will be more questions to follow. Tom PS: my presently my other bike is a beautiful 97 Honda Valkyrie Tourer. I recently sold a 06 HD Street Glide. I've also owned a 03 Honda ST1300, a 03 Honda VTX 1300, a Honda 750 ACE, and my 1st bike was a Yahama 400 way back when gas reached $1.00 a gallon. My wife rides a 04 HD Fatboy.
