  1. I'm over a barrel. Mine let me get my RSV in Jan. I think I'm gonna owe for awhile.
  2. I forget the name of it but theres a pretty cool museum in Ga off I 95 just north of the Savhanna exit. I know there are probably tons of them. I'm just an airplane nut at heart I guess. I worked on c-141 cargo jets for 20yr. Cant help it. I need to make it back to Wright Pat to do that one right, last time I only had like 4hr.
  3. Wright Patterson in Ohio is a neat place to go also if you like airplanes.
  4. My guess is that its how they are routed. Yea it would be nice if they shielded all them wires so it wouldnt do that but it is probably cost prohibitive. Like I posted just repositioned and all is good. Is it the best solution, probably not. Is it managable? Yup I'mm good with it.
  5. Warrier, I actually "stumbled" across part of the moonshiner 28 road. My buddy and I were splitting up over by Bryson City after riding Cherola. I had planned out the trip on Microsfot Streets and Trips. That looked like a good place to split and him go to Chraltte and me to head south to Madison Ga. I just picked a road that looked like it headed pretty direct. So I have run it from Bryson City to Franklin. It is pretty cool, like you said it follows the river and some neat shops and stuff along the way.
  6. I know what you mean. Thats to far for me to just go check on.
  7. I dont know if your video links are the ones or not, but last year before I went someone sent me links to some about the cops up there. The video took a bike mounted camera and made the trip down the Dragon. There was something like 25 cops in the 11 miles. I know when I went in Sep we saw better than a half dozen. Only 2 of those were NC HP. This thread has got me to thinking about my trip this year and doing a little planning. Where to this year? WE have to kind of do it on a point A to point B thing so cant go to far out of the way, so I'm looking at options. Nothing from Rick who started this. Hmm wonder if he scared off?
  8. Nope. Didnt change a thing. All I did was start the bike and on the right hand side where the cables and the IC cable runs into the fairing, I moved individual wires one way or another and interfearence stopped. Like I said I thought about tie wraping the cable but I dont want to restrict the movement of the cables when turning. I'm going to leave it for now, but if it comes back I'll look into tie wraping it .
  9. By chance can you tell me where? If its close I'll pick you up 5 gal and you can come pick it up next time your down here. I got like 6-8 5gal cans in the garage from the hurricane days.
  10. YEP really smart guy the one that made those. Thanks Kirby they worked great. Only thing is after I installed them I had engine noise in my intercom. But I read up on that and found it was more than likely caused due to wiring being routed somewhere it shouldnt be. So I rearanged a little and wa-laa no more ignition noise. Man that Goose is good. I think thats part of what I like about this site over here. These bikes have been around what 13yr now and most problems have been run across atleast a couple times and someone has figured out how or a way around it. My Kawai 900 had been in production 6yr or so and some of use were doing things for the first time and learning on the fly so to speak. I figure with the things I have learned how to change (fork/ride height) Riser and the anti-vibration supports, intercom parts (headset research) intercom noise the fixs cost me about $2 a piece. But I have only been here call it a month.
  11. Well you know he appreciated it by the smile right?
  12. I read something just the other day that NC has passed a law to keep the semi's off from thier end. Now if TN would do the same. Soot even box vans got no bussiness on there unless delivering goods to the restruant or something like that. As far as dramatized, yea it is IMOP. But thats thier job otherwise nobody would watch it or Ice Road truckers or the like.
  13. Well I had a simular problem. I never had noise before, today we did. I was really scratching my head. I had put the piece of rubber over the mic to try to cut donw on the background noise (actually I used a piece of a rubber glove) It didnt seem to do anything other than make me turn up IC volume more. But I gaind this tick today. Well just went out and started bike and plugged in. Noise was there, while running I moved the IC cable I guess comming in from bike towards fairing. Moved and all of a sudden, noise is gone. I thought about tie wraping the cable but I dont want anything to bind up the cables while turning. Only thing I can think of is I had to take the risers off the other night to add something (support for fairing) and most have caused the cables to move. Thanks Goose. Do you supose you could go to DC and fix that too?
  14. Of those that have risers on, have you noticed it sounds like the fairing has more rattle to it now? To me it did. But a member here hooked me up with some supports he tried on his. I went for about 100 mile trip today and I think its alot better. Thanks Kirby. Ops ch good.
  15. Rick you got mail friend. Just a simple loop from your place down to the Dragon then over to Cherola and back home. You can add to it or subtract. Lots of good stuf to the west of I 75 between Marysvile and Knoxville too.
  16. A few years back I put a Bat Wing fairing on my VN 900. I wanted it to match the bike so I looked into different paints. I found out thru many discussions that although color rite is the ONLY company that makes paint to mathc motorcycles its not allways the same. I would say it was 40/60 on happy vs the paint didnt match. And the price was crazy. My painter said I needed maybe a qt. I think it was $200 for a qt with all the additives plus shipping. My guy matched up the paint with a supplier he had and they painted the entire thing for what I would have had in paint alone. I hope it works for you. My luck would be they would loose the saddlebag.
  17. Rick you may have your heart set on the Dragon but dont get your hopes to high. Read up on it at some fourms. What I mean is the Dragon while it is a "go to" spot is really a pretty technical piece of road. I rode it last year from north to south and enjoyed it. But I'll tell you this, I can hardly tell you anything about the route. I was so busy minding my P's N Q's so I didnt overshoot a corner, get whacked by an on comming vehicle or run over from behind by som fool on a crotch rocket trying to beat some time. I am not saying dont go, just dont think this is the only place you need to ride. The Cherola Skyway is close by its beatiful and not near as crowded lost of turn outs. The Blue Ridge Parkway and lots of side roads. Have you checked out http://www.motorcycleroads.us/index.html http://grouprider.com/home.php http://www.travelingbikers.com/maps.html http://byways.org/ http://www.openroadjourney.com/ If you have never been I think most of us have heard about want to go. Be careful and alert, take your time. Dont limit yourself there are lots of roads around there to occupy your time. I think you could spend a week in that area and not ride the same roads. Look for a PM from me.
  18. The HID thing intrigues me. Currently I have a Sylvania 85w100 H4 bulb in mine. It worked great in my Kawasaki previously. The HID deal sure seems nice. One drawback for me is I can run the headlight modulator if I swap. Also I read you have to have like an "on-off" switch something about voltage drops when you start the bike.
  19. Octoberboy: welcome. Have you been riding for awhile? Did you just come back to the sport? Your right lots of good folks here. I am a fairly new owner, I just got my 09 RSV mid Jan. WE love it. Have you got your eye on one close by you? Even though I have mine I was checking out Craigs List last night. I found a RSV like 2002 or so with less than 40K for under $6000 Deals are out there you just have to look. But the hunt can be half the fun huh?
  20. Well sounds like you atleast have power to the one. See if you got power to the rear one. You can probably use a test light or volt meter either one I think. If you happen to have another horn laying around, slave it in. Last one I had that had the dying cow sound I think got water in it.
  21. I would say one of my most used apps is WEather Channel. I work in different locations around the US and outside to boot, so its nice to kind of know what to expect. And its great for the bike too. I had an app for Tampa Bay weather that worked good because it had a radar deal that worked good. But I had to take my phone in for some issues and when I got it back it didnt have any of the apps I had before. I reloaded the ones I remembered I used and the rest I guess I will later this year when I need them. I also use gas buddy, but if your on the road and need gas.... well I aint messin with no phone trying to find .03 cheaper fuel. But I still think I'm gonna have Buddy build me a cable before this summer for the blue tooth thing.
  22. I'm new to these bikes but I'll give you an idea of what I would do. There are 2 horns, the one on the right side that is chromed and then one on the left side under the plastic works by your foot. Atleast my 09 is that way. Does either work? Or just sound sick? I would use a volt meter to make sure your getting power to them when you push the switch. If not then maybe the switch is the firt place to look. Actually I think I would ohm out the grounds for both horns. Not sure if the factory horn use a relay or not. If grounds ohm out good and no power @ horns my first guess would be a relay, possibly the button has corrision on the contacts too. If your horn has died I would go with a stebel. I have had one on the last 2 bikes and they definatly get your opponents attention. Hope that helps some.
  23. I have talked to a couple gouys on the Kawaski fourms that are using them also. After discussions over there thats why I went with the 765T. For the difference in cost between this unit and the motorcycle specific ones I thought it was a good buy. I also bought the extended warranty thru square trade for less than $20 for like 2yr.
  24. Hey I know its an old thread, but I have looked thru them all trying to find info out on top rails for the saddlebags. I looked at the yamaha ones listed, not really what I'm looking for. If someone is using rails that fit another bike can you list the make model and years please. I like the style of some I found on e-bay that say they fit a Kawasaki Vulcan 1500. But I'm afraid the extra drop on the rear of it wont work with my bags. I like the black color as I think it blend in more and not take away. http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Kawasaki-Vulcan-1500-1600-Nomad-Saddlebags-Top-Rails-Black-Powder-Coated-/00/s/MzAwWDQwMA==/$(KGrHqF,!ksE5dKtM3KzBOb-dT1bS!~~60_12.JPG These are the others I have found. They actually say they are for a Tour Deluxe/venture. But I think I like the black powdercoating. http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/0/6/5/0/2/3/webimg/5395553_tp.jpg
  25. Yea and is there something wrong with military green???? I managed to get off with a few pairs of those when I retired. We usually just rolled the excess down so they were'nt so long. Winter time we put those inside a full leather glove. Worked pretty good. Most of the pairs I had when I got out I wore holes in the finger tips as the leather is pretty thin. I have seen the same glove called a "tank driver" or something glove. Looks teh same but probably the Mil Spec is a bit different, but we wouldnt know. I have some fingerless gloves I wear most of the time, but also some mechanix wear gloves that are of the heavier material more like a lined glove than the "standard". I also bought a pair of "water proof" gauntlet gloves that are suposed to be more of a winter type glove and water proof. Well I proved that wrong last year going to Daytona. It raind so @#%1 hard I poured water out of them at one stop. Well I guess they were'nt all wrong, it held the water in.
