Mike and I used Progressive for many years because after the fiasco we had with State Farm, Progressive was the only company that didn't make us jump through hoops with paperwork regarding my disability until we found Eddie. Yeah it was alot higher, but I didn't have to have my doc do multiple forms just to try to get coverage. Eddie has made the process painless and even answers questions when we need help lol.

The 04 Volusia Intruder is a carb, in 05 Suzuki went with fuel injection and renamed the bikes a Boulevard C50/T Mke got his bike last yr for $2700, it was valued at $4300. Been a great bike for Mike to learn on and does pretty good 2UP. We lucked up and found the bike on craigslist. And the guy selling it lived less than 5 miles away. We went over it well and found nothing out of sorts. It's light enough if I could get the hang of shifting I could ride it

The guys can chime in better than me on this one, but since 1st bike hunting is still fresh in my memory I'll take a poke at it... Vstar: 650, 950, 1100, 1300cc cruisers All are pretty light to move around save the 1300cc Suzuki: similar but with slightly more variety. Hubby got an 04 800cc Volusia Intruder as his 1st (only) bike. It's a nice bike and light enough I can move it around if needed given my cerebral palsy. It's also a shaft drive in case you prefer that. Honda: same as above

Finally got my wife to ride the 85 VR with me.
GAWildKat replied to spitfire9's topic in Watering Hole
Daddy was a biker, he had a 54 Indian he bought new, sold it 13 yrs later when my great uncle (his riding buddy) passed away. So I only heard stories of his riding days since I was born in 74. I was brought up by Dad to think bikes were bad because of the troublemakers that tended to ride...Dad was no exception to that, he caused alot of trouble until he quit drinking (still before I was born). When one of my guy friends in HS bought a bike, I wanted to ride, Dad nipped that in the bud too lol. Wasn't until about 8 yrs ago when one of my friends decided one day that I was riding and I was going to ride that day. He spent the day teaching me to be a good passenger and said with enough time I would be really good at it. I had good instincts. He had hoped it would become a regular thing since he wife didn't ride. Unfortunately it didn't. Funny part is, Mike never met Howard before the time I was dropped off at home. So when Mike sees this burly Marine dropping his wife off at home after a bike ride he wasn't sure what to think other than at least he knew I was safe lol. That was also the catalyst that started Mike thinking about a bike. -
Yeah...well Mike's 33 and just starting riding, so he wanted more of a real motorcycle for now. That however will probably change in 20-30 yrs when he or I decide a trike is the best way to go. Alot of our bike shopping was finding stuff not only he liked but was comfy for me too. The volusia is a nice bike, but we feel cramped on longer rides, can't wait for a roomier touring bike lol.

When Mike and I went looking for a new bike for him starting 2 yrs ago (we rarely make rash choices) we looked at the 2010 wing just for comparison to the other bikes at the stealer. Even the sales guy who was assisting us with bike info called the wing a 2 wheeled car. We didn't like it because the seats were uncomfortable. He'll prolly never get a wing, he says it has too much tech for him lol.

Wish I was going out that way....My Dad and Mike's grandfather were both WW2 vets. Would be an awesome way to honor them. Yeah Yeah....I can see the questions now...How could my Dad be a WW2 vet...easy. I was the pleasant surprise he had when he thought he was too old for kids and was settling into the idea of being a grandpa lol.

I agree with Bob and Jeff, the wind on her if you raise her seat will will be more painful than the joy of being able to see over your head, especially if you are stuck behind a big truck or it's really windy. On Mike's volusia, we have a butty buddy attached to the pillion for my comfort. However, it raises me above his head giving me a clear view of everything. On a calm day it's not so bad, and I love the view. Get behind a big truck or high winds and the wind threatens to blow me off the bike @ 55mph. By the time I get where I'm going or home for the night I'm ready for a hot bath and muscle relaxers. I'm still sore from our ride Sun evening where winds were over 35mph for the 3 hrs we were on the road.

I say contact the seller and say something about the lens, say you want them to replace the lens at their cost or you will be forced to return the lightbar for a refund.

Before my Mom was diagnosed with glaucoma a few years ago I might go 3-5 yrs between checkups because my vision wasn't changing, now I have to go yearly since she's the 2nd person on her side of my immediate family to develop glaucoma. Neither she nor my grandmother were diabetics either. Doc says my chances of getting glaucoma are low because I inherited Dad's vision problems, not hers. However we'll see how it goes in another 20 yrs. I try to get my MIL to get regular eye exams and glaucoma checks because her Dad also had glaucoma. She's rather ignore it and hope she never gets it. Money and insurance aren't even the issue. She and my FIL both have excellent coverage. She just won't go.

yeah...I know all about those near freezing temps last night, Mike and I were out on the bike in the wind and cold, it was horrible. My throat and sinuses still haven't forgiven me for it. Oh well, it was worth it I think.

As a young woman of 37 I know what you are going through. I lost both of my parents to cancer. I was 22 when I lost Dad and 31 with Mom, and there's not a day that goes by that I don't miss both. I'm sorry for the pain you've been dealing with and what lies ahead.

Sure you were!! Noe what science experiments did they do to you? 4 arms and 3 legs? lol

Did my 1 mile walk around the block...did it in 15 mins instead of 16 over the weekend! and I don't feel stiff or sore...yet
-
Wish I could do a go through the woods, but my asthma would be leaving me breathless. I used to walk the former roommate's dog until a neighbor let his boxers off leash and they came at me, Dante was going to protect me, but he had no chance against 2 boxers. After that I couldn't do it anymore, was worried at what could happen to him next time.
-
I'm not quite up to doing that...yet. When I used to walk, for fun I would do up to 20 miles a day with my walkman. Unfortunately my exhusband forced me to stop, and other demands in life took over. Wasn't long after that I gained all the weight, mostly from the meds I was taking. Mike always said if I got my weight down and kept it down he'd find a way to reward me with stuff I want. I need to get my butt in gear and start working out again.
-
I'll go walking tonight....sheesh lol

This is the weight training system Mike approved: http://www.gymprofessor.com/gym-routines-toning-women.html I'm going to start with 5lbs weights and slowly work up. My starting weight is 215, according to the charts, I'm supposed to weigh 135, but my goal is 150lbs, so we'll see. 135lbs was what I weighed 11 yrs ago when I met Mike.
-
Hubby did the temp join with me too. I'm not to go to the gym until he can go with me and be my spotter. I can walk the neighborhood all I want in the meantime. But I'm strictly not allowed to try the freeweights until he can make sure my form is correct. And Jeff, since I don't see Dan nearly as much as I do Mike, it's more likely that I might be bodyslamming Mike in a few weeks (months). The gym offers cycling classes, yoga, Pilates with the VIP membership ($30/mo) but they don't offer personal trainers, so I'm on my own there. Maybe in a few months I can work up to the P90x videos I have lol.

I joined a local gym yesterday, they have a 30 day free trial with unlimited access during business hrs, decided I need to not only lose weight but need to strength train too. I'm a bit overwhelmed looking at workout routines. Other than walking and PE class, never stepped into a gym before.

The best advice is talk to an attorney for some free advice, for a small fee they may even send a letter to the collection agency with proof that the bill was indeed paid to the original debt holder.
