  1. The first thing I would do is check each cyl. temp individually. Just run it for 30 sec or so then CAREFULLY feel each exhaust and compare. These bikes run amazing well on 3 cyl. When I bought my first VR I figured everything was good....then when I bought a 2nd one a few months later I was amazed at the power it had! Turned out the first one was only running on 3 cyl!
  2. One of those times when you can feel the adrenaline blowing out the end of your finger tips! Quite a rush! Glad you kept shiny side up
  3. Congratulations Bob. Now take care of yourself and your wife so you can both enjoy it for many years to come!
  4. so now.....what switches will fit? I think I'd like one spring loaded and one push on, push off
  5. I spent $500 on a course on re-incarnation. I know it's a lot of money but, what the heck, you only live once right?
  6. Me and my sweetie were married 30 years ago today. I know...just a couple of rookies compared to some of you.
  7. gone off somewhere trying to figure out what the heck anebreation is! But they don't really care cause they still can dance to the music of.....
  8. You are going to get a lot of different answers. Sort of like asking if you should buy a ford, chev or dodge. The big thing is to be sure that the oil you use does not have any anti friction additives. Our wet clutches don't like that stuff!. I use 40 wt diesel oil....Rotella
  9. The 85 is the black with burgundy the 84 is the blonde The 85 has a engine from an 88 He had 2nd gear issues early on so he switched engines...I got the 85 low milage engine as part of the deal...but like I said 2nd is gone. SO.....I'll be selling the 85 (with 88 engine). It's a standard but has a stereo with a "bubble cover". I'll post pictures when I'm ready to sell it.
  10. Carl....you know I love you....but NO! I need em too! Boy...the vultures are circling already and I haven't even picked them up yet!
  11. Gotta go north of Huntsville. Sundridge camping at Little Kup campground near Burk's Falls Tomorrow night and Sat night. I'll be in the cage of course...with a borrowed trailer. That will be 5 of these beasts within the last 2 years! Worse than drugs!
  12. But you don't have to neccessarily ACT your age!
  13. Trying to catch up to Yammer Dan....but none of them are blue! Going to drive 6 hours each way to pick up these 2 bikes. Getting both of them for $1500. 1984 Yamaha Venture Royale in good condition needs 2nd gear replaced but can still be driven or for parts. 1985 Yamaha Venture in good condition has a 1300cc motor from a 1989 venture so no 2nd gear issues, runs and rides excellent. Also have another running 1200cc motor
  14. Yeah....Harley's, Yamaha's, whatever. Anything that is an electro/mechanical device is going to break down...and if it's mobile it's going to lose a part or 2 over time. The fact that our bikes are getting on to 30 years old is a testament to how well they are built. I wasn't trying to be nasty...just having fun. But Harley's just make it so easy!
  15. Then I wake up and realize.....yes...it's just a dream....there IS still a cassette! But one modern feature the 3rd gen does have is a.........
  16. Yesterday I pulled up beside a group of Harley's at a stop light. One guy was yelling and gesturing to the bike in front of him. (beside me) The guy beside me bent over and picked up a chrome plug that fell off the end of his handle bar. And here I thought you guys were just joking about Harley's losing parts.
  17. My 84 on the way back from Don's MD 2011 (now sold) and my daughter's dog.
  18. Pawn Stars did a segment on a '40 something Indian. Put it back to a military bike, complete with rifle and grenade holders. I liked it better before the restoration! Ok....highjack over
  19. A subscription to a magazine? "Here I am....come and get me!" DUH! That's as bad as the bank robber who wrote the stick up note on the back of one of his personalized deposit slips
  20. Forget my comments! Here's what the manual says for manual adjustment
  21. Hmmm...."as long as it is connected to the bike" so if it breaks loose and causes major damage (cars swerving and crashing) you are no longer covered? Unlikely to be true....but I would check to be sure.
  22. For sure it would affect the value...but hard to quantify. I've never heard of a set value of $X per 10,000 miles Might be a case of "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"
  23. Boy! You folks really missed your chance. If you were quick you could have suggested that the 1st Gen whine is "I wanna be a 2nd gen!" But....TOO LATE!
  24. We've all seen the "Walmart people"...well now they have a theme song! Turn up the volume and sing along! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RzcvFLPg1A?version=3%22%3E%3Cparam
