Thanks Don.

Congrats Dave. I know how much work you put into this. Hope your new ride puts a big grin on your face - and let's you go even faster.

Charlie - Why am I not surprised. Rode today and anxious to head north to your stomping ground soon. Till then, keep your wheels on the road.

Have you bought thhis here in Ontario Abdul?

I have four 10 x 20 seasonal use canopies (they won't hold heavy snow) that I buy here in Canada for about $100 when they are on sale at Canadian Tire. For another $75, I bought a set of attachable walls that I like because I can put them up on one side only if I want for sun or wind protection. So far, they have held up well. What I would like to find is a top cover like I saw on a guy's HD at a bike show lst year. It was only about 2 feet wide and attached at the mirrors (or somewhere at the front) and went over the windshield and sloped down over the seat/luggage rack where it also attached with bungee like cords to keep it taunt. He told me he rides year round and keeps his HD outside all year and that it had worked well for years. To me, it looked like the perfect cover for sun/rain protection and covering up the GPS especially when traveling as it rolled up into a very small size. Has anyone seen something like this on the market? I am thinking of tying to make something like this myself if I can't find one anywhere.

It is a late model (1950) 8N. I bought it partly for sentimental reasons. My grandfather taught me how to operate his 49 model back when I was 7 years old - which was 56 years ago. I understand that there are still so many of the Ford 9 and 8N tractors in use today that you can still get over the counter parts.

Thanks to chabicheka, I am reposting this as a new thread rather than a response to a two year old thread by E-Fishin-C: Can't believe it - it's been a couple of months since I last signed in here, so I got a whole lot of catching up to do. Anyway, I just had my last ride on my other Yamaha Venture (my snow sled) two days ago and put it to bed for the season in my shop at the cottage, not that far from Charlies. Good timing as yesterday was over 40 back here in Toronto (and warmer today), so I fired up my VR and went for a run on it yesterday. Yea - back in the saddle again and it feels good! One of my spring jobs now is to finish repainting my trailer for the VR and start planning for my trip with my wife to the west coast later this summer.

Well, I'll add my 2 cents worth. My 88VR had Elite II's on it when I bought it. I expected to have to change them within a few k miles. I was surprised by how well they rode including in the rain and how many additional miles I got out of them, although my riding style is not hard on tires. I went to E3's when I replaced them and I think they are a bit better over the road snakes. I can't comment at all for 2nd gens, but I see your are riding a 1st gen - happy riding!

Ben, I can only imagine how difficult this is for you and how much you must be questioning your own decisions. Having talked about this with my own father recently, I have a stronger sense that ultimately, some comfort will come from what you believe your father would prefer and what you think is best for him.

Fabulous video. Was to Yosemite only once but missed these wonderful sights.

--- and I guess it will be a while before the roads are clear enough to ride - just now heard on the news that there was a hundred car pileup with several fatalities only 70 miles from here due to bad winter weather.
-
I'm lucky to have indoor parking that never freezes so I don't winterize and I am always ready for a run when the temp rises above freezing and the roads dry up. That often happens at least once a month through our winter here in the Toronto area. Unfortunately, the weather has been bad since New Years, when I last rode.

Dave, I buy mine at Platics World here in Toronto and I think Mother had a supplier that delivered it to his house.
-
If you do Jack, keep us posted on what you think. Also, it looks like these things have been around for several years so I have to wonder why they arn't better known.
-
Thanks for the reminder Deb as I missed this previously. Done!

Stories like your Rick help give us all some optimism. Good luck down the road.

Just attended the funeral procession for a well respected police officer here in Toronto. Normally I would not do this type of post, but the event was so amazing and moving. Close to 10,000 officers marched 8 abreast (over 1/2 a mile long) to honor this officer who was killed on duty by a mentally ill homeless man driving a stolen snow plow. Officers from across Canada marched, as well as some from the US. Our fellow VentureRider, Dogman (Dave), marched with his dog and other Toronto Canine Unit officers and I suspect there were others marching.

Same here!

As always, Don, you are a true gentleman and clearly the main reason why this forum is one of the most respected and appreciated by so many who share our common bond.

You Texans impress me Herb!

Yea - lots of people and what struck me most, which dosen't come through wth Abdul's pictures, was the number of used bikes for sale, although there were not many 2nd gens and no 2st gens that I saw.

I will check the Canadian Tire stores here in the Toronto area this week. The auto supply stores that carry Seafoam in this area charge about $12.00.

Same here in Canada. Both times I ordered something from China, it arived in 2 to 3 weeks.

Yesterday at the International Motorcycle Show here in Toronto, I saw this new model Gmax open face helmet with some new features that appear to be good ones - you can see the helmet at http://www.g-max.com/gmax/replace-gm67s.html. One of the new features is an optional battery powered led light bar that fits into the back of the helmet and can be turned on or off and can also be synced with the brake lights by way of a small transmitter. A similar light has been available on Gmax snowmobile helmets but from a conversation with guys from the company that makes them, I am told this is the first helmet with these lights for their motorcycle helmets. I am interested in any comments on why this may not be as good a safety option for bikers as it is for the snowmobilers. In addition, this helmet has several other interesting features including a good quality internal sun visor that the rider can flip up or down, built in pockets for headset speakers and a removable chin bar plus more - and the show price was reduced 20% to $79 here in Canada.
