  1. I guess thats why its good to have an 87 VR, when either the wife or I talk, the radio goes silent, the only trick is to repeat the first word, because there is a 1 second delay before it cuts out, and 1 second after the last word, the radio comes back on............. not that I have the last word..... when the wife is finished with the last word it comes back on.....JOHN:innocent-emoticon:
  2. I can only make the first 2 nights...... workus interuptus................sorry JOHN
  3. I have also looked for alternates after being hosed 68 bucks for mine 4 months ago..... would not that 1/2 thick industrial foam tape ( like weatherstrippng foam but wider and thicker) take up the gap and give you the seal, and it would be soft enough, so you would not have to do any grinding??? My local bike shop ( not the dealer) also mentioned a washable alternative, but never asked the price, when I pick up my new battery this week I'll ask him.............JOHN
  4. :whistling:got out of the garage a few hours ago, and I found 2 problems that may have contributed to it......when it was on the center stand, and I grabbed the forks at the front axle it moved front to back about a 1/2 inch..... taking into consideration, some flex is needed, it still seemed to much. So the culprit must be the steering stem bearing, not having one in my possesion, I decided to delve into the tear down anyway, and see what could be done, after 1/2 hour, and very careful reading of the manual, I was finally at the steering column ring nut. (along the way, I found 2 loose pinch bolts, and my right side handlebar hold-down nut did not have much torque on it.>>>> when in the teardown.... to get parts out of the way while working.... don't take the Phillips screws out of the ignition module, just the 12 head bolts........spent 15 minutes putting the switch back together:doh:, the other hard part was remembering where to route the wiring for the cruise control harness.....seemed insignificant at the time..........all back together and working, now have to wait for daylight to do a test run, but this weekend may be bad..........long weekend, and coppers patroling the roads, will have to wait to get up to 120-130 km/hr later this week:cool10:.... by the way, a 1 1/16 socket and a 1 1/8 socket is needed for this job....THANKS FOR ALL THE ADVICE, FROM ALL, and sorry I stool the thunder from the original concern of the low speed wobble, but just pushing around in the garage, mine feels less "spongy" on the handle bars............. and yes FREEBIRD, the long time fix will be new bearings..... that will be in the job jar for say.....DECEMBER:whistling: have a safe weekend BIKERJOHN51..... also known as "grumpy bear"
  5. thanks Guys.... I am free this weekend, and will check the steering column as suggested, ALL suggestions, if I can't find anything ,I will return the bike to the shop that changed and balanced the tire, now has 3000 KM of riding this year already, and have it checked again bikerjohn51 ...... see you in Kitchener..... cabin 2001, first 2 nights, wife and I are just taking up 1/2 the cabin, so if someone is desperate for a place, some room with us..... but we prefer privacy.............. UNLESS.... there are some females needy of a place .............HHHHMMMM :rotf:
  6. I am getting a slight wobble at high speeds 120KM/HR.....or 65 MPH or so.....where do I begin to look for trouble.....I have new tire and balanced at shop...... I'll have to look at the steering column I guess JM
  7. carefull when you start talking about bag removals.......that may hurt:rotf:
  8. took the side cover of my saddle bag, put in a soft sided carrier and put a mini poodle in to the dog show,...... this is a show dog, and nothing phases it, just worried in the slow trafffic with all that heat coming off the pipes...... but she made it......................... no suggestions on the large dog......................i have seeen home made carriers, where the luggage rack sits, dog in harness, and tied in...... but the dog has to be willing. hope you find a solution..................
  9. colour, mileage, your location???

  10. Well ... if kidding around is what the American's want................ be careful what you wish for !!!!!!!!! see you in cabin 2001, first 2 nights (work interferes with the last)
  11. 57 and still enjoy the ride....... The local club I belong to,has an elderly guy, late 70's and loves to ride ......took 4 weeks out last year and did crosss country Canada and then came back through the states............ his answer this year, because he cannot hold up a top heavy bike anymore is to go for smaller bike....... he felt ashamed at the club to appear on rides with a smaller bike, but we told him not to be silly, and the riding is what it is about, not what you ride......................... as for the lady not getting the leg up and over, some of us gents may feel the same limitation some day....... but the 650CC yamaha scooters are still a good way to get the wind through your hair............ at least get the wind over your head....ENJOY the season e1 see you in KITCHENER cabin 2001, first 2 nights...GRUMPY BEAR on the back. JOHN M:bighug:
  12. I'll try locally first, but have no issues by ordering and have them shipped.... thanks RIDE EVERY DAY,........... LIKE IT IS YOUR LAST
  13. I heard that on long rides that sheepskins can make your delicate backside more comfortable................. true or false................. if true, does anyone know of a local dealer in southwestern Ontario Canada???? 88 VR bikerjohn51... RIDE EVERY DAY,........... LIKE IT IS YOUR LAST
  14. must be for smaller bkies, because if you can hold up a VR at a stop sign or light, I wouldn't call yourself disabled................then again in Europe, they have a 600CC scoot car, where the wheelchair becomes the seat of the 3 wheeler (open floor)....maybe they are coming here????
  15. I'll be happy to get a money order or bank draft in American funds to Don later this week..... this site has been a Saviour on several occasions already.... thanks to all who help. just find it funny that Don Nelson ..... member of the venturer's club lives on HAWLEY ROAD...............now that's funny. I do agree with black owl about the 2 tiered system that might develop..... that's a tough decision. see you in Kitchener BIKERJOHN51 also known as "GRUMPY BEAR"
  16. so instead of going on vacation and trailering your bike....... now there is an option of trailering your car while riding your bike.....

HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE.... just look for " GRUMPY BEAR" on the trunk.... that's me and the misses too/. JOHN
  19. YOU WORRYABOUT YOU PASSENGER???????? I took 2" off my standard one, so I can see over it on a misty/foggy day, which we have a lot of in my area...... its better to see..... than to be laying comfortable on the road !!! it's all about personal preference ......JOHN:whistling:
  20. just had mine done last month.... same thing 88VR.. it cost me 100 bucks to take it in to the local shop, he took it apart, and very lightly " machined it" and said he put slightly oversized seals in it....... I'll let you know how it works...when the dang snow lets go,,the shop that did it , i trust ..been using him for 20 years
  21. I'm going to the east coast mid July..... maybe we will see each other on the road.... keeep your eyes open, and we will meet for a snack along the way..... I have an 88 maroon or wine coloured VR and matching trailer.... see you there JOHN and NANCY
  22. I'm in... I'll build a covered bridge if I have to... (as soon as this dang snow melts):cool10:this idea will have me glued to this site , to see what's next... especially when I'm on my trip to the east coast this summer... I hate computers, but I will allow my wife to bring her laptop, just so I can participate............later dudes, and dudettes JOHN
  23. I personally like the lower windshields, in fact I cut 2" off the stock one that came on my 88VR.........reason, in light rain or mist/fog days, you can not see through the windshield, then you are on your tippy toes to try and see over it....... and for me at 6 foot even, the top to the windshield was directly in my center of line sight, so that the top edge was always coming in and out of your driving concentration zone........I hope that makes sense............but you must be a fair weather driver...... so it will be OK JOHN :stirthepot:
  24. when you can get 40-50KM out of a good Michelen or Metzler...... why bother ?????:confused24:
