Fixit I am glad they did not get hurt any worse than they did. I drive 54 miles each way to work and am getting off at midnight and I worry about the deer and bear all the way home.Loud music on the scoot seems to help but believe me when I say I ride slower on the back roads than I do in the day light. Again thank God they are able to tell about the wreck and let them know we will be thinking of them every day till they get better, Jeff

Joe the first thing I would do is to bleed the clutch good to make sure that there is no problem with the slave. If the problem still exsists I would pull the clutch cover and start looking at the basket, plates, springs ect to see if they are burned, warped, glazed over ect Keep us updated so we can try to help Jeff

Nats being a first gen rider I founf it very easy the first time I split the fairing on a second gen it only took me 10 min to split the fairing this is what I remember doing to Tims 05 I may have forgotten something but it was real easy. take out the screw under the headlamp then start with the screws on both sides of the fairing on the back side then remove the chrome windshield piece and the screws under it I am sure a 2 gen rider will post on this Good luck Jeff

Carb designs
muffinman replied to ctraylor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
A few of us were talking about this at Vogel and I think I would go with a 365 cfm carb I like more carb than is needed cool with fuel Thats the way my F150 is not much on the milage but if you can get traction it will pull anything. jeff -

muffinman replied to Red Baron's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Maybe the tape deck doesn't like the music you are playing lol Seriosly I would get the deck cleaned and lubed by a radio shop as I dont know what needs to be lubed. Jeff -
Engine knock
muffinman replied to laxman's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Laxman describe the knock to us some of the bikes have a light knocking sound on the right side that is in the clutch basket area. My 83 has a slight knocking sound from the basket area and when I did the tranny I looked at the bearings and there was no problem with them either time I had the motor out the bike had 44k the first time I split the case and 118k the second. Yes you have to pull the motor to split the case and get at the rods. Your noise may be from an out of adjustment valve. let us know Jeff -

Dunlop elite 2 is what I prefer I tried the 3 but it didnt feel comfortable enough in high speed curves for me. The elite 2 tire is what I was told to put on mine when I first came to this site and Right now I have them on my 83 and 84 VRs and have a 83 standard that has Brickstones on it and I dont like them I also tried a continetal on the back of my 83 and it was ok but I like the elite 2s for my style of riding. fuel pump relay 83 standard
muffinman replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Tim with your fuel pump running the way you stated I would say that the electrical side of the pump is probably not a problem.I suggest that you do a fuel pressure check the pump may either be weak or have a clogged inlet line. Looking at the pictures of the bike I also suggest that you check the carb diaphrams and the coils not to mention the tci and boost sensor as the heat would have been on them while you were still moving. You can call me on my cell tonight after 7pm est I can talk while I am working I work till midnight so dont think its to late to call me.9196735095 Jeff -
Update on Dales bike it is now fixed it turned out that the R/W wire for the ignition fuse had a bad connection at the crimped end to the wire. After a few phone calls and a couple of try this with a jumper wire we narrowed it down and found the problem.Dale had checked the fuses and checked for power on both sides of the fuses. So now we have a new file for our memory banks in case this happens to someone else the way we found the problem was me asking him to check for voltage at different points and we found out that the r/w wire that should have had power going to the fan switch had none so I had him make a jumper up and go to the starting circuit shutoff relay and the bike fired up so I had him skin the wire just after the fuse and jump power over the fuse and the bike now runs. Now all he has to do is put the plastic back on the bike and install an inline fuse. He also has to take a 100 mile test ride just to make sure the bike is fully operational. Jeff

My 2nd Gen is sick...
muffinman replied to Cerviperus's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Justin After you change the plugs if problem is still there I would suggest that you look for vac leaks at the top and bottom of the carbs there may be a slight leak causing the bike to run the way you stated (dont ask me how I know) Jeff -
Yes what Eck said if that does not help the shifting try taking it to a non dealer shop sometimes the small shop owners are a great help. If all else fails tell him to ride it to my place and we will pull the motor and see what the problem is. Jeff

Put the bike on the center stand add some weight to the back seat and turn the front wheel while a helper pushes the brake pedal and see if the wheel has any drag when the brake is applied. I had to reverse bleed the left front to get all of the air out on my 84 when I resurected it.The bike had set for z a few years before I got it. Jeff

dome lights for luggage
muffinman replied to Howie257's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Howie here are 2 good options for the lights you would just need to figure out a switch system http://www.wingstuff.com/pgroup_detail/33_Lighting_Bulbs/2857_LED_Step_Light_w_Chrome_or_Black_Housing/?goto=%2Fpgroup_list%2Felectronics%2F33_goldwing_Lighting_Bulbs%2Fdes%2F%3Fpage%3D4 http://www.wingstuff.com/pgroup_detail/33_Lighting_Bulbs/2857_LED_Step_Light_w_Chrome_or_Black_Housing/?goto=%2Fpgroup_list%2Felectronics%2F33_goldwing_Lighting_Bulbs%2Fdes%2F%3Fpage%3D4 Jeff -

Howie if I am not mistaken they have automatic(mercury) switch light kits for the wing there is no reason you could not adapt them to the Rsv Jeff -

Noise from right rear
muffinman replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Check the arm that the caliper mounts to Skid had a noise that turned out to be the pin slapping the arm while the nike was in motion. Jeff -
Ok some of you have asked for a pictorial explanation on the second gear fix so here is the start. Step 1 remove outer and inner fairings, radiator cover, side coversfalse tank cover. Step2remove the radiator, crashbars, exhaust, pegs, front to back frame bar. This took me 45 min to complete while dinner was cooking. I will post more tomorrow after I get the motor out and split if I can find the problem with the engine as some of you know I am not removing the motor for second gear I am trying to find a noise in the transmission. Jeff Ok the pics wont upoad so I will try again in the morning
