  1. 3rd gear 45-50 and 4th gear 60-65 minimum. You won't be getting good gas mileage running 50 in 5th and you won't be helping your engine.
  2. You will have better visability if you remove the left rear engine side plate. There are just three allen head bolts. Just don't start the engine while the side cover is off.
  3. My solution was to install RADIANTZ led units and forget about ever changing them. I did this in 2002 and have 150,000+ miles; I have never had a problem. Plus they are much brighter. I even change my main brake light to the same led's.
  4. The answer is yes (in most jurisdictions), but not with blue lights or red lights. I have white lights on my RSMV and they don't bother me, but I am usually in bed by 8:30 at night. The life of a mini farmer, ya gotta love it.
  5. I purchased my 02 RSMV in 01 for reliability. I just sold my 2000 HD Ultra that spent way too much time in the shop and I tested every touring bike available. The warranty and the proven reliability of Yamaha made it the choice for me. I now have over 150,000 miles on it and it has never let me down. I now do all my own service and plan on having this bike cremated with me when I leave this world, so I can ride for eternity.
  6. I used the bars off a RSTD and love them. You still need two inches longer for the throttle cables.
  7. Hopefully he will soon want a computer to converse with all his friends here and elsewhere. Rock on Ponch! I am still praying.
  8. I have the DEKA AGM and it works great. That being said I had six years on a Yuasa wet battery. I kept it on the shelf for a year and then put it into a trail mower. It started right up. My good friend needed a battery for his VSR and I gave it to him. It is still running great after more than seven years. I cannot tell you what is better after this revelation.
  9. Yee haawh! I will keep the prayers going up.
  10. Ohh that was a good update, hallelujah. Dear God in heaven, keep David close and heal him quickly, amen. Help his family through this troubling time, amen.
  11. And from me and my family, the prayers continue.
  12. BUMP We need to keep this from running out. Dave is our family member.
  13. Every time I get close to my computer, I click on this thread to see if there is any good news about Ponch. I never met Ponch but I have talked with him several times; I still have his cell number in my phone. He has always been very helpful with sound advice and has sent me o-rings and washers at no expense. But what has always been obvious is his great personality. I keep hoping this is all a dream, but I keep praying for his recovery.
  14. Ditto YAWN,
  15. What Wes 0778, said. Get the speed bleeders.
  16. I don't know what to say, I am sitting here praying and hoping for better news. I don't want to pressure anyone but my pressure is high. Give me strength, Lord.
  17. I am very saddened by this news. I just got of my knees and the prayers are heaven bound. What a great guy.
  18. I am thinking the connections and logic circuit for the trailer wiring. I wanted Steve to just disconnect that and see what the voltage did over the weekend. The only other after market draws were the wire for the electric vest and the wire for the battery tender. These are plainly visible and in good shape. BTW he would be a member here but he refuses to have a computer. Therefore he calls me to look up stuff for him. I love him and as a marine veteran from Viet Nam, I am proud to help him and call him my friend. I want to thank everyone for their replies. This is the greatest site for information on these beasts and I appreciate each and every one of you.
  19. I bought my bride a Mercury Mariner (read Ford Escape) in January of 2010 and it is a great SUV and black. We also have an 05 Ford Escape LTD and it has 103,000 miles and is also a great vehicle. Congratulations, Tater, you will love it.
  20. I understand what you are saying since I fried my amp portion of the multimeter today. I ordered a new one with ten amp fused connection. If the bike is off and no key on there should be only around .05 amp draining to run memory. I know that if I touch the positive to the battery there is a distinct arc. I will try as you say next Monday since my friend will be out of town this weekend. I told him to take the negative off the bike and leave it for the weekend rather than hooking up a tender to it. Granted he will loose radio stations but after four batteries he is used to it. By the way the last battery re-charged fine. It is the same battery I took out of my 02 RSMV after six years. It sat on a shelf for the last year and was still fully charged when I gave it to him. Love Yuassa.
  21. That would explain a lot. I have never seen one. Good one V7goose.
  22. We have checked the regulator/rectifier and all is well. Monday we are going to the stator. When you say short out the leads, I am assuming ground them. If not please explain.
  23. I will do like you say but it is a 2006 out of warranty bike.
  24. The inside spacer looks right as it is called a collar but the outside is but a washer between the brake braket and the swing arm.
