  1. Will be opening gifts on the eve with the wife and kids then heading into work at the firehouse on Christmas day. Hope everyone has a moment or two during this crazy time to step back and enjoy the true meaning of the Christmas season. Blessing ya'll Norm
  2. "Guess my point I am trying to make is, if the MEDIA says it is so, than it must be so? We have orders "many" but media says "BAD TIMES", so we lay off forcing our customers to lay off cause we can't get the product to them" I believe there is a basic answer to this issue, one which I find hard to follow myself however the more of us who take this position, the better chance it will have an effect. The answer? Ignore the media, don't watch the news, listen to your favorite music on the radio and buy motorcycle rags vs newspapers and as always when on the computer park it right here! Just an idea.
  3. Spear, The question is what will it be like down your way come July or so?
  4. My motto is wait till the last possible moment, shoot you never know who's gonna be on the old list come the 25th. Supposed to hit the mall with the family tomorrow evening however that means I will be 3 days earlier than usual. Oh well!
  5. Ron, Thank you for your service, welcome to the family and by all means have a very Merry Christmas and Blessed New Year. If you ever decide to come south for a taste of the north Georgia mountains give us a shout, I am sure we can rustle up some company and show you a few decent twisties to blow your mind.
  6. Hey, Fairly new to this site but really enjoying it, maybe to much? I was wondering if there was any sort of organized thing going on for the Georgia contingent. I this thing your discussing an open invite deal? I really don't have a need for any specific maintenance at this time but would like to get to know some of the other members here when possible and I do enjoy meals. Anyway let me know and I will check the calander, I live in Woodstock and have a '98 RSTD. Thanks.
  7. Don, I to want to echo the many "Thank you's" as I am sure few know all that probably goes into what you have to do to stay on top of the stuff. I certainly know that I do not know all that is entailed. Anyway, what has to happen, has to happen. Just darn unfortunate that there are those incompetent ninc-em-poop's who have nothing batter to do than try and screw up a good thing. Stay the course my friend!
  8. Thought it looked like Black and silver. And the pics do look good, though like the post above I believe if you throw on some blue lights and a couple of strobes you cruise through whatever traffic is ahead of you ....... for a while that is. Nice job.
  9. I will certainly take that sad news any day of the week and gladly deal with the addiction to boot!
  10. Having recently joined this select group I am finding myself spending more time here than anywhere else and enjoying the company. Though not as interactive as many I find myself constantly amused, informed and sometimes even educated with the interaction. As '08 hits the dusty trail and '09 bursts on the scene I want to take this opportunity to say thank you for your openness, a blessed Christmas to all and of course the absolute best for the New Year. I noticed the thread concerning the recent business closures and issues with our current economic and political situation. A note of encouragement, I recently finished a book entitled "1776" by David McCullogh about the life and times of that special year in our countries history. From it I have been inspired to continue my enlightenment of the conditions and issues that went into that which got us started as an Independent Nation. There seem to be amazing parallels between that which stimulated our need to be free and that which seems to bind us down today. Though never an advocate of violence I often ponder the thought that maybe every couple of hundred years a good revolution is in order, or at least a real close review of that which we revolted from in the first place. The bottom line is that if we don't learn from history we are doomed to repeat it. Stepping off my soapbox I close with the warmest of thoughts for you and yours and of course best wishes for the coming year. May your horizons be clear and the sun always at your back, and of course your rubber side always facing down. Blessings!
  11. Folks, I have traveled the BRP and SD a number of times and have done it in a little as two days however your 200 miles a day is a good target especially if you will take the time to see the sights. True the lower speed limits are slow but you will enjoy the journey that much more. Couple of suggestions, surf the web and check out any BRP sites prior to departure as this past year there were a couple of road projects that had the BRP closed requiring detours (one of about 50 miles). That being said do some home work with your maps and don't be afraid to take some detours off the BR as often the occasional cross roads provide exciting adventures in themselves and you can always return back to the BR when done. I have camped and stayed in hotels along the way. Camping is more fun but the hotels are more comfortable, you may want to try some off the parkway as you will save some $ that way and do plan fuels stops as there is no longer fuel on the parkway. Finally, always keep your eyes open not only for the beautiful scenery but for the active wildlife and I mean active. You will cross paths with turkey, deer and even an occasional timber rattler that looks more like a branch. All things considered you are going to have a WONDERFUL time, enjoy the journey.
  12. Have done a number of two wheeled vacations both with the wife on back and solo with and with out buddies. Always a joy and I highly recommend the experience though I have never tried one out of the country. I WANT to though. Couple of recommendations, check with as many cycling buddies as you can for input, it won't all be good or usable for you however it will open your eyes to many new ideas and may educate you a bit. My best advise is to keep your plans loose so you can accommodate modifications which WILL occur. Although reservations are nice they tend to lock you into an itinerary that may or may not work for you. Take less than you think you need, you will need the space and I always adhere to the rule of shipping things back home to conserve on bike space. And finally, always remember it's not the destination but the journey so take it slow and definitely take the time to smellthe roses when ever you can. All the best, Norm
  13. Appreciate the input thus far, and most has been pretty much along the lines I have been hearing else where. My '85 had an electrical gremlin and I ended up doing a tear down to access every electrical connection I could find and cleaning and greasing them all and when I got done she ran fine and never gave me another problem along those lines. Have been thinking mostly along the lines of an 86 or newer for the simple fact of 100 more cc's and more storeage, so I will keep my eyes peeled. Any more input is extremely welcomed. Thanks.
  14. Hey, am new to this site but have been involved with the Royal Star family for any years. Got back into biking with an '85 VR that I eventually sold and replaced with a '98 RSTD which I currently am riding. My ? is this, particularly from those who are still starry eyed over the 1st Gen models. Although I like my '98, I like the looks, amenities, and touring package that is 1st gen. As I research these bike hindsight bring out various imperfections in certain year models and I am curious about your opinions of which year models of the 1st gen bikes may have been a step up or better refined than the others. Appreciate you input.
