  1. Ive gotten a few emails about parting it out....Im not gonna do that. Its too good of a runner to tear it up.
  2. The first $1500 rides away with it
  3. Im gonna sell my '83. I wanted to give folks here a shot at it first if they wanted it. New tires front and back, new battery, new fuseable link and wire, new rear brakes and rebuilt rear caliper, recent oil change, fog lights in front, marker lights in back , reflective trim around bags, good windshield, newly recovered seat.....will need fork seals. Is she in perfect shape....nope BUT shes in good shape. BUT shes a runner BIG TIME. 9-0 running against HD, 5-0 against Corvette. HAHAHAHA. She quick quick and reliable. Ive ridden it all throughout Colorado, Nebraska and Kansas with no problems at all.
  4. Seems to me if the back and shouldes are giving you pain, its most likey not the seat. Maybe just and overall seating position. You would be very surprised and how foot positioning will effect the way you feel.

    No No No

Forcast is calling for SNOW tonight and into tomorrow!
  6. Contrary to popular belief....i AM NOt retarded. The pegs are stationary. They do not fold. If they were upsidedown...they would fold the second I put weight on them.
  7. Sorry about the lighting...sun aint smiling on me yet! I think it look pretty good. They work well too.
  8. Cool..Gimme a few...just got home from work and the sun aint really up yet...makes it kinda hard to take pics.
  9. I needed some more room to stretch out on long rides. I thought about installing some crash bars and slap some pegs on 'em but they looked to be to far out and to high up. I want to relax not pull a muscle! So I saw some floorboard mounted highway pegs on a bike and started hunting them down online. $153 for the mounts! The ya had to buy the "mount specific" pegs. Screw that! I had some iso pegs laying around so what I did was bought me some hardened 1/8th in zinc plated L brackets from Ace Hardware for $8 and some nuts and bolts. All said and done right around $10. I cut the bracket to the length I needed with my trusty hacksaw and drilled the holes I wanted in the bracket the pulled the rubber pad off the board and drilled corresponding holes thru it. Bolted the brackets to the underside of the boards and drilled a mounting hole for the pegs. Badda Boom Badda Bing....took me about an hour. Will post pics if anyone is interested. Next up....I think I figured out a way to mount a windshield without having to buy all of Yamahas overly expensive stuff.......post more after I run a few prototypes. But Im thinking that instead of dropping the $500 with Yamaha or the $325 with Memphis Shades I can do the whole shooting match for about $150...and the mounting should be more solid.....I hope
  10. I use a teflon based wax by DuPont. Works really nice. Getting bugs off after a long ride is a breeze. I will admit that I do wipe the bike down every now and then with Plexis. Its shines up real nice and the paint looks wet. I dig it. As far as a chrome polish..Turtle wax rules.
  11. Ya Im looking at one of the 21'' Fats for mine.
  12. We are quiet becuase we are ACTUALLY OUT RIDING. Not sitting at home on the internet talking about riding!
  13. Anyone here using or know of someone using a Memphis Shades windshield? Im thinking about putting one on my Roadstar. Just looking for some feedback.
  14. Im thinking about selling my '83
  15. Its good info to have but Im looking for a complete decode. That just verified the year for me. Thanks
  16. Anyone here know how to decode yamahas vin numbers? Need to decode one for an '83 Venture and one for an'04 Roadstar

    WTF?!?

Yeah yeah emsrider..i know, im good at stirring things up. Ya know what guys, I will TOTALLY give you the cost arguement. You can blame the cappachino crew for that mess. Next time one of the driveway jewelry wannabes calls me "bro" Im straight gonna punch is head off! Like my new Roadie..set up alot like the Heritage but more power and a better seating position and I paid about 10 grand less. But Yamahas factory and "aftermarket" parts are HUGELY expensive. Same as HD. And a far as the old "parts falling off and reliablity" issue that I KNEW would come up....I just read that Yamaha recalled ANOTHER 3 years worth of bikes for tranny problems. But I will give ya that when AMF owned HD the bikes way SUCKED. ANd lets not even get into the 1st gen 2ns gear issue! I guess after riding HD for almost 20 years I still gotta a soft spot for em. Ya know what Squid.that Road Glide is a sweet bike. But you guys are right. IM not paying all that extra cash for a badge on the tank! Now I gotta find something else to stir up!

    WTF?!?

Alright I cant let this one go much more without saying something . Being and old HD guy I notice that lots of you like to bash HD BUT then you turn around and wanna load yer bike with HD parts!!! RK pipes, HD lightbars ECT....Im not pointing fingers or anything (yes I am) I just have to chuckle when I read you guys bad mouth HD then turn around and wanna make yer ride sound like one. I know im gonna get some responses...blah blah blah...HD this and HD that...reliablity issues blah blah blah. Whatever....bring it
  19. Thanks guys. Thats pretty much what I figured too. AS long as Im not riding like Squid and Im being cool and not acting like an ass plus the fact that I will be sporting out of state plates...I should be cool. Im am fully insured and all legal and stuff so thats all good. I never hotrod with the Mrs. on the back...kinda,...well usually..sometimes,......ummmmmm hell who am I kidding, she is usually the one instagating me to haul ass! LOL. And Lyle...you KNOW we got some serious eating to do when I show up, right!
  20. YUP its got a bit nippley here in the AMs to. Trail Ridge Rd...that some of you road in Ft. Collins is already been closed due to snow.
  21. As some of you know, next summer Im planning on a long trip BUT as im researching some state laws about handlebar height, pipes ect...it turns out that my bars are illegal in AL,AK,DE,GA,IN,LA,MD,MI,MO,NE,OH, RI,TX,UT,VT & WV...THATS 16 STATES. What sux is that Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Indiana,Missouri and Texas were on my path. My pipes are illegal in AZ,CA,CT,DE,FL,ID,IL,KY,MD,MA,MI,MN,MS,MT,MS,NV,NH.NY,ND,OH,OK,OR,PA,RI AND WA...THATS 24 STATES! My trip will take me into Florida,Illinois, Kentuky,Mississippi, Louisiana, Missouri, and Oklahoma. I REALLY dont wanna change my bike all around and have to buy new bars and risers and exhaust...my question is- how vigorously do these states enforce these laws.
  22. You dont believe the 1st gens are faster than the 2nd gens? Well I have ridden both and I will tell you that my 1983 will run circles around a 2nd gen. As far as top speed, I didnt take the 2nd gen out and run it that hard being that it didnt belong to me BUT I did get on it a bit and I will tell you that there is NO WAY that a 2nd gen will keep up with the acceleration of my first gen. No way. Lets just say that the top speed of both bikes is 130mph...i picked that because I have had my bike in that range a few times.... ( dont tell the wife cuz she would absolutley freak) anyway the 1st gen. would hit that mark alot quicker. Whens the last time you saw a 2nd gen. pull the wheel in the first 2 gears???? BUT the 2nd gen in WAY more comfy. In all reality as long as your bike can approch the 100 mph mark and not be over worked...does it really matter? The first gen is a quicker bike and maybe more manuverable but the second gen would be my hands down choice to go cross country.
  23. If you can fins Elite 2 grab them up. Dunlop stopped making them almost a year ago and replace them with Elitle 3. The difference in that the elite 3 will handle more weight and has a bit more aggressive tread pattern. Avons are notorious to have the "death wobble" at higher speeds on Ventures..like anything over about 60mph...which is a drag because I ran Avons on all my choppers and they were a GREAT tire. Some people still swear by them tho. I just put new Metzlers on a week or so ago...so far so good. But then again people here have complained about them losing chuncks of rubber. Som folks on here swear by the Michelin Commanders...I have no experience with them.......SO you will get as many different answers as you will have different people on here. I was debating between the Venoms and the Metzlers.....the bike shop I deal with alot had the Metzlers MUCH cheaper than everyone else and less than the Venoms....everywhere else for the tires they wanted about $185-$200....found a place that had em for $118. SOLD...lol
  24. HAd the same issue....all I do from time to time when it happens is wiggle the start button and presto..lights
  25. I have an '83 standard.....the clutch resevoir (sp) ran dry so i put more fluid in and she was back to normal in a flash. That lasted about 15 miles the when I pulled in on the clutch there was NOTHING again. After I limped her home I checked the fluid level and it looked fine. Is there a place to bleed that system? Maybe I got some air in there messin' with things.
