  1. I think that most of us here do it way more often than is necessary. Yearly is probably more than enough. The fact is though, it is such a simple job that I check mine 3 or 4 times a year. It takes me about 10 minutes at the most. If it TRULY needs it done, most riders will feel some vibration in the floorboards and/or handlebars.
  2. It really boils down to how much money you want to spend. Inexpensive but good reports: Piggybacker A little more but good reports: Aluma Trailer High priced but very good: Bushtec Hannigan Escalade I'm sure that others will add more.
  3. They will certainly remain in our thoughts and prayers until home safely.
  4. Yea, it was expensive for gas but still worth it. I know that none of the boats do very well on gas but I have to think that this one would do better if not so under powered. This was one of the smaller house boats. 14' x 50', 3 cabins, one bath, full kitchen, living room and etc. It was powered by a 85 HP Mercury two stroke. The gasoline generator also drank some gas. Most of the larger boats and even the smaller ones at other marinas are powered by I/O engines. Most are 120 HP and up. Some are Volvo/Penta diesels and I think they probably do better. Oh well, it was still a lot of fun. Fishing was terrible but fishing off a house boat is not great anyway. I also talked to a couple of fishing guides at the marina and they said that even they were working hard to find fish last week. I finally gave up and bought a bobber and some worms so at least caught a couple of small perch but I don't even consider that catching fish. We did have 4 wild turkeys come down almost right beside the boat late in the afternoon our last night there. They were fun to watch. Eileen has already decided that we are going to do this again sometime next spring. If we do, I would really like to drag a fishing boat down there to have along side the house boat.
  5. Well, if you decide to stop by, just give me a call anytime. My number is in my profile.
  6. It looks good. I think that personally, I still prefer the single post type like the Diamond R but that one looks great too and should certainly make for a much more comfortable ride.
  7. I have been out of town for two weeks and have WAY too much to do around here. I would be more than happy to do it if you want to stop by the house on Saturday or Sunday though. Just don't have time to go anywhere.
  8. Well, this is our last full day of vacation. It seems like forever since I have been home. After a week of sales meetings at our company resort in Wisconsin, I got home last Friday night and spent the night at home before leaving for Lake Cumberland in Kentucky at 5:00 on Saturday morning. We have been on a houseboat on Lake Cumberland since last Saturday. Tomorrow we turn the boat in and head back home. It has been quite an experience for me. This was all Eileen's idea. She felt that I needed to get away from civilization for a while and get some rest. She thought that being on the lake with no TV, Internet, etc. would be good for me. Well, I cheated on the Internet. Tethering my Blackberry to my laptop gets me a connection. Not a FAST connection but it could be worse. I've been good though and only checked email and the site a couple of times a day. After our first day here, I thought that I was going to go completely stir crazy. I couldn't even imagine spending a week here with no fast internet and etc. Then a strange thing happened. I actually started relaxing a little bit. I found that I could actually sit on the front deck of the boat, watch nature, fish a little bit and actually feel fairly content. Now I've reached the point that I actually am not looking forward to returning to civilization. So tomorrow night, we will be home again. The only thing that I'm NOT going to miss is the approximately $200.00 per day that this boat sucks up in gas. That is in spite of the fact that we have spend most of the time docked in secluded coves.
  9. I'll take a look at this stuff when I get home next weekend. Right now, I'm sitting on a house boat on Lake Cumberland in KY. I can get online but it's not the fastest connection.
  10. I've been at the company resort near Hayward, WI all week at our semi-annual sales meeting. It is finally coming to an end. Tonight I fly home and then I'm taking off next week for a much needed vacation. This has to have been one of the longest weeks in history.
  11. Ah...you are right of course. Please excuse the brain fart. What I was really thinking about is the engine oil. If the clutch is burned that badly, it should be very dark. Of course if it is time for an oil change, it might be hard to tell.
  12. One thing that has bothered me about this entire issue is an earlier post where he stated that the clutch fluid looks clear and clean. I think if the clutch was burned to the point of not even moving the bike, the fluid would be pretty dark looking.
  13. That would actually be very easy because now I've got the code in place. I'm still not convinced though that we need both a "like" and a "thanks" button. I'm just watching the comments and then will decide whether or not to keep it.
  14. I'm guessing like chicken.
  15. Yea right...then I would never get anything else done. It does seem a bit repetitious. We'll try it for a while but if most don't like it...POOF ... it will be gone. The better solution may have been to just change the text of the "thanks" button to "like"....or just leave it alone.
  16. HA....I don't think it would help unless I made EVERYBODY a moderator just to deal with him.
  17. There is very little cost involved with making molds for vacuum forming. My company does it for "one off" products every single day. Custom injection molding is very cost prohibitive but vacuum molding is very simple. Heck, it could be done in the garage with some very simple fabrication.
  18. OK...it may or may not be exactly what you wanted but I figured out a way to add a "Like" button that does NOT interface in any way with Facebook. You will see it at the bottom of each post, except your own posts, just above the "thanks" link. All you do is click on the green thumbs up. Now as for the REST of your post...uh...women really SHOULD come with an operating manual...us men often can't decipher between the "explaining" and "complaining".
  19. I do understand the the definitions for "think" and "like" are not the same. If you "like" a post though, don't you think that just thanking somebody for that post would indicate that you LIKE it? Would you feel better if I simply changed the text of that function from "thank" to "like"? Then those who appreciate the post could say that they "like" it and and I'm sure the poster would take that as a thanks. hmmmmmmmmmmm.......... I just don't know why we need so many different ways of basically telling somebody that we appreciate what they posted. As for the "quick reply" thread, I thought I had already addressed that issue. It only makes sense when people view the forum in the "threaded" mode. I've been through this and even did a poll one time. Not that many responses in the poll but looking in the admin control panel I can tell you that of all the members here, probably less than half a dozen use the "threaded" mode. So should I take away the option for Linear mode and force users to use the threaded mode to satisfy the 5 or 6 people who would prefer to have a quick reply option? The point is, I can't please everybody. I can only TRY to please the majority and that is what I try to do. I'm NOT a professional programmer but have spent many hours adding features and cobbling together hacks to add features that are requested. You said "it is your board, that's fine". That makes it sound like I don't care about what people want. Those who have been here for a long time can testify that I've added a LOT of features here at the request of only one or two members. I will try my best to do that if it's not something that negatively affects the majority. SOMETIMES, things are requested that I simply can't figure out how to implement.
  20. Thank you so much for the update. I tell you, Ponch has been on my mind an awful lot since this has happened. It just makes me sick to think about all that he and his family is having to go through. He will remain in our prayers for as long as it takes.
  21. I will also remind all of you that there is a "rate thread" function. At the top of every thread there is the "rate thread" link. I would think that between that and the "thank you" feature that there are enough ways to show your appreciation.
  22. Done. I also went ahead and deleted your duplicate posts. The edit function should be there now though.
  23. I kind of agree. I don't really think that we need a "thanks" button and a "like" button. I see no problem with using the "thank you" feature for both. There is a feature that adds a like button but basically what it does is post the thread to your facebook account. For those without facebook accounts, it would be useless.
  24. I bought a small Lincoln wire feed welder about 8 or so years ago. It has come in very handy around here and I've used it many times. I had only welded a few times in my life and never had any proper training. For simple home repairs on lawn equipment and etc., anybody can become proficient enough to get the job safely done with a few hours of practice. Plus, I enjoy doing it myself. Like others here have said though, buy a 220V unit. Mine is a 110V model from Home Depot. It was less than $200.00. It works OK on thin gauge steel, up to 1/8" or so. I've even welded 1/4" steel with it and it will work but you have to go slow and I don't know that I would trust it for anything structural. Spend the extra money and get a 220V unit.
  25. Don't get me involved in this. No way am I going to insult the best mechanic we have.
