  1. I put the full PCW clutch kit in a few years ago. It's been great.
  2. The fact is this wasn't just an accident. The trooper made a u-turn in traffic and killed someone. U-Turns by default put you at fault if there is an accident. Having lights and sirens makes no difference other than the trooper MUST be even more careful since he will most likely be driving in a way that is illegal for the rest of us.
  3. In MN they are starting to treat death by drunk drive as 2nd degree murder. There has been one case I know of that they did this in. They also made it a felony for your 3rd DUI in 10 years. The trick is keeping the DA from pleading the case down to something other than a DUI. The general mentality in this Nation seems to be this: Being drunk is a valid excuse for killing someone with your car. Killing a motorcyclist is just fine as long as you didn't see them. Killing a puppy is 15 years in jail mandatory.
  4. I didn't see the pedestrian as I sped off with my lights an sirens!!! No difference - the office is still criminally liable. At least they would be in MN. Here is it no excuse or safe guard to say you had your lights and sirens on. It is still the officers responsibility to make sure he is driving safely and does not hit anyone!
  5. My PGR flag is on my right antenna. It sits at the bottom with a zip tie keeping it from sliding up. I've started looking into buying some basic machine shop tools and start making these. I've priced the tools ($$$) and I know I can make the parts. It's just getting the time $$ and sales.
  6. That's not the post I was searching for the other night, but it is a suitable replacement. The older post may have been lost int he crash ages ago.
  7. Are those carb removal instructions in writing? I sure could use them as well. I've done a lot of mechanical work. I just hate carbs.
  8. Well, I could see the face of the passenger in the right mirror when I enlarge the image, I just don't know who it is. You need to watch out for those mirrors.
  9. I have the same year and model Magna that's been in storage for years and does the same thing. Seafoam won't help if it can't get to the problem. My guess is I'll have to remove the cards and clean the crap out of them.
  10. Last year when he back to Canada for his brother health problems and funeral(?), he was not heard from for a month or so. I think it's just his way of dealing with these sorts of things.
  11. This means it was built as a single function light. However, you can make a small little electronic adapter to turn it into a 2 function light. All you need is a resister and two diodes from Radio Shack. Then do a little soldering and apply heat shrink or electrical tape. For the life of me I can not find the post on these forums that had the description and image of the schematic diagram for this. But it is real easy to do. I've done several of them for my various running/brake lights. It was something like a 300ohm resistor and a diode one on side and a diode on the other side.
  12. That's not bad for mileage. And they are easy enough to replace.
  13. I can give two reason. 1. the natural tendency to use more rear brake than we should 2. there is only one rotor on the rear so it has to work more to stop than the dual rotor front breaks.
  14. We rode from St. Paul to Mackinaw City last Fall. There is only one road across the UP. I suggest you use that one. If you have the extra time head up to Whitefish Point to pay your respect at the Maritime Museum and the Edmund Fitzgerald. From Mackinaw into Wisconsin your not going to get much past Marinette, WI. The speeds across the UP are a bit slow. But the views of the lake are excellent. Here are my videos as we crossed the Mighty Mac http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=28248 Here's the details of our trip including a google map link for our route and the sight seeing advice other offered. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=26310
  15. GEEK! That's me. I've been fueling my geekness since I got my hands on my first electronics kit in the late 70's. Then even more with a TI-994A computer and Apple II computers. I also did CNC programming in high school. Since then I've done bio-medical electronics and programming. I've programmed in FORTRAN, Basic, Assembler, C/C++, PHP, CFML, SQL, PERL, Bash and a few others. I also run my own servers at home. Yeah, I've got the geek bug real bad. Today I'm a Sr. Web Application Developer and Systems Administrator. You can read about my geekness at my programming blog http://www.trunkful.com/page.cfm/About (which is different from my political blog). Monday is Geek Pride Day! Celebrate with a few bytes or nibbles.
  16. The actual amount of ethanol can vary and is allowed to vary by law. E85 can have up to 85% ethanol. I am not sure what the minimum amount is, but I have found a few places suggesting that it can be as low as 70%. Maybe that person was trying to find out if places selling E85 were actually selling something far less than the legal definition? Now for a general PSA: We must get rid of this notion that we as mere humans are so great and powerful that we can permanently and irreversibly alter or destroy the Earth. We are only humans and we do not posses such great power. We are fooling ourselves if we actually think E10 or E85 is going to "save" the Earth as if Earth needed saving in the first place. Back in the 70's I was being told of the coming Ice Age and all the problems that would cause and how we as humans were the cause and only humans could stop it by giving up various technological conveniences. Cars and gasoline were first on the list of things that had to go. Everything was about cutting out fossil fuels and going with solar and wind. Well, it's 30 years later and the Earth still hasn't come to a freezing end, but we have Global Warming to thank for that. Yeah right. Did we as humans conserve so much that we reversed the cooling cycle? No we did not even conserve yet we are still warmed by the heat of the Sun. Now I am told Global Warming will be the end of the Earth and it's an amazing coincidence that the exact same solutions offered for preventing the ice age that never came are the exact same solutions to end Global Warming that never was. Folks I am here to tell you that the great big ball of fire in the sky is the source of our heating and cooling for as the Sun goes so does the earth and all of the other planets in orbit. This is why those people that have been studying the Mars climate noticed that Mars also warmed a bit during the same period Earth warmed. Imagine that. Our cars exhaust caused even Mars to warm. Of course the only sane explanation is that the Sun's heat output varies (which it does) and thus we experience more or less heat on Earth. Any other explanation is really designed to either control your lives r to transfer money from your wallet to someone else or both.
  17. dang that is a huge beast.
  18. All I can say is I've tried other types beside briefs and if they don't provide any support I'm sitting on things that are meant to be sat upon. Boxers, boxer briefs and such just don't work for me. Instead I switched from straight legged jeans to these cargo or carpenter type jeans that are looser fitting. When I put my feet up on the highway pegs I get a nice air flow in to cool everything down. Ya just gotta watch out for bees.
  19. Alge oil and other oil made from various vegetable and plastics are only capable of offsetting a small amount of the oil we use. As long as a company can profitably produce these types of oil I say go for it. I know a guy whose company is researching building a plastic to oil conversion refinery that takes non-recyclable plastic and breaks it back down into oil. Remember that petroleum is used to make plastic and many many other non-fuel products that we use everyday. There is nothing we can use to just replace petroleum based products. So the issue of drilling for oil or not is really silly since we need it even if we all walked. As far as various lobbyist groups go they are a non-issue. Some are declared "evil" by the news media when the lobbying group does not agree with the news media. Lobbying is part of our Representative Government process. It gets is name from the early days when politicians stayed in hotels in Washington DC while they were in town for the limited amount of time the Congress or Senate were in session and people would come to the hotel lobbies to wait for the Congressman or Senator and try to persuade them on an issue or vote. Today's lobbyists are a modern more organized form of that. If your in favor of Gun Rights and support the NRA your paying a lobbying group to represent your views to your Congressman ans Senators. The same is true for you old bikers that are members of the AARP. That is how you get your voice heard. Since our Government has decided to become heavily involved in regulating so many businesses, some companies have hired lobbyists to help protect their interests. There is nothing wrong with this and long as everything is up front and on the table. To eliminate lobbying would be eliminating the rights of everyone to petition their Government. Like it or not this is our Government and how it works. Just like a sausage factory, many don't want to see what happens inside. But when no one looks inside you get bad sausage. It is our job to not only look into Government but be active in Government. Write to those that represent you join groups that have the means to lobby for your views and if you can run for office yourself. If only this was taught in Civics class today.
  20. BTW: here is the business week article. http://www.businessweek.com/lifestyle/content/may2009/bw20090514_058678.htm?chan=top+news_top+news+index+-+temp_dialogue+with+readers
  21. Well when you take away the subsidies ethanol is far more expensive to produce. I've written a few articles on ethanol and it's impact on our economy, environment and food supply/costs. http://www.wilgeno.com/index.cfm/2008/9/14/The-Lie-Behind-Ethanol-Fuel http://www.wilgeno.com/index.cfm/2008/7/6/Who-gets-energy-subsidies http://www.wilgeno.com/index.cfm/2008/5/11/What-is-Causing-High-Prices-for-Gas-and-Food http://www.wilgeno.com/index.cfm/2008/7/5/Biofuels-behind-food-price-hikes-leaked-World-Bank-report
  22. I have the red one that is pictured. It works just fine with my Carbon One lift adapter.
  23. Thanks Don - I've been meaning to tell you about the link change for the past week.
  24. Heck that tent is even bigger than ours and anyone that was at Pork in the Pines last year can attest that our tent is huge!
  25. Dang that is nice - I think another member here is going to want one of those.
