  1. WooWoo - we have 34 Venture Riders registered so far with several more maybes. We still have camping spaces and as always there will be plenty of pig to eat! So if your lurking and thinking about maybe coming on out there is still time and room to party with a pig!
  2. I hear the pigs get kind of scared around there that time of year. Good riding country that's for sure. ....sheesh - I just contributed to the hijacking of my own thread! BTW: Our ride in the lakes region was a nice ride. Cool weather and cool breezes. The roads were in good condition and made for great riding. I shot video from my action cam on my handle bars. Some of the video is interesting. I'll work on getting that processed and uploaded somewhere. That reminds me, I still have video from last years Pork in the Pines to process.
  3. I kind of like those. I sure would like to do what you did and take a demo ride. I'm sure it's no direct replacement for a motorcycle, but if something happened where I could no long ride on two wheels, I'd be on one of these.
  4. We're about to head off on another day ride here in MN. 300 miles of roads north of the Twin Cities. We'll be doing a lap around Lake Mille Lacs up in the Brainerd area. Google Map of the route. Today's weather is sunny and 59 degrees and they claim it could get up into the lower 70's. PERFECT riding weather!!!
  5. For a few less $$$ you can get a V-6 Boss Hoss.
  6. Well if that picture above was the pic of this dog I think Blondie would be a good name since so many of you refer to your similar colored first gens as Blondie. Besides, Ventura was the name of a bad pro-wrestler and even worse Governor of MN.
  7. Double check at the AMA website. I think they are working on lobbing efforts to ban these.
  8. I thought this thread had a lot of posts in it the other day? Anyways, I'm buying a complete set of coils off a crashed Venture for just a few dollars. I've done about everything I can with my bike to improve the MPG short of pulling the carbs myself (I paid to have that done a few years ago). So, I'm going to see if coils change things. If they do, I'll send you the one(s) I think are bad.
  9. True that - Gearing has a part in this type of noise. The straight cut gear on the Venture tend to be louder. It's a sign of high end engineering and performance.
  10. Sounds like you know the games, so that means your coming to the rally? Only 24,059km from Perth.
  11. Pack a full suitcase for your trip and toss it in the trailer for a little added weight. If it's too light it could get blown around if it's windy.
  12. Hmmm.. we may have to look into that. Considering Grandpa Gak has horses we might be able to use a few "horse apples" and light those on fire!
  13. "rider skills challenges - games" You know, we never actually got around to those with all the riding, eating and drinking and maintenance day. We do or did have orange cones the first year, but we never used them. We usually do massive bon fires. Someone even disposed of old gas from a members rusty gas tank in the fire one cup at a time. That was impressive.
  14. 3 out of 4 ain't bad. It is possible those would be that good looking after many many miles. I'd watch that one cylinder though. Every thousand miles or so pull the plug and see if it's fowling up.
  15. We only have 19 days until we roast a pig at our 4th Annual Pork in the Pines Rally in Northern MN. So, how far is it to get to Pork in the Pines? How far will you go to get some free roasted pig? USA Mpls/St. Paul, MN 236 mi Bismarck, ND 313 mi Sioux Falls, SD 360 mi Des Moines, IA 475 mi Green Bay, WI 510 mi Omaha, NE 537 mi Chicago, IL 640 mi Billings, MT 726 mi Saint Louis, MO 792 mi Lansing, MI 857 mi Casper, WY 929 mi Oberlin, OH 958 mi Oklahoma City, OK 1,015 mi Denver, CO 1,071 mi Nashville, TN 1,115 mi Montgomery, AL 1,395 mi Houston, TX 1,461 mi Canada Winnipeg, MB, Canada 408 km Thunder Bay, ON, Canada 563 km Brandon, MB, Canada 618 km Regina, SK, Canada 975 km Sudbury, ON, Canada 1,334 km Toronto, ON, Canada 1,712 km How far is it from your place? Find out at the Pork in the Pines Rally Map page. No matter how you get there just get there.
  16. Oh, and my wife got upset a bit because I took this S curve with a 180 degree hairpin at 50mph. Sheesh, the sign said it was a 25mph curve so I figured 50 on the bike was no problem.
  17. That was a nice ride. We came across a place in South East MN that would be a good place for a rally. Root River. There are plenty of camp ground in the area and people floating down the river on tubes, rafts and canoes. And the roads around there are twisty hilly and fun. This is in the heart of what's called Bluff Country. http://www.destination360.com/north-america/us/minnesota/root-river http://www.bluffcountry.com/ http://www.byways.org/explore/byways/2240/ http://www.exploreminnesota.com/story.aspx?EntityID=41101
  18. We're getting ready to do another Saturday Day Trip. This time through South Eastern MN and North Eastern Iowa. We've ridden some of that are before and the roads and views are wonderful. Total trip distance will be 358 miles according to Google. Google Trip Map This will give us a chance to use our new GPS. We picked up a Garmin 205W GPS. Yeah I know, it does not mount to the bike or have soooo many other features. Well I don't want one for me to look at while driving. I don't need the extra distraction. It's for my wife aka navigator to use then she can tell me where to go. We also picked up a boaters GPS protector case that is clear on one side and still works with the touch screen so she can keep it around her neck on the lanyard and still use it on the road.
  19. Riding at night from around 1am till 3 or 4am was one of my favorites things. Cool air and quiet peaceful solitude. It gave me time to think about things. Now I work days and thus I try to sleep at night. But once in a while I'll get out on a PGR mission that leaves at 3AM.
  20. We've got a fair number of RSV's and first gens running around the Twin Cities and other parts of MN. I see at least one on every ride we take.
  21. Then you may have just been attacked by a virus. It is a stealth attack and unless you have software on your computer to alert you and/or block the attack you are doomed. This type of attack does not require you do do anything other than visit the site.

  23. Well if that was the case they would have to attack my personal servers since I'm hosting the PDF files. I double dog dare them to hack my servers. If they do I won't buy the new VMax! (And yes, I get hits to those manuals from that 'other' site all the time. They never even asked permission.)
  24. Considering Don's time and expense - your selling him out cheap.
