I found it through google when researching Ventures before I bought my '07 Midnight. John

Yep. Just make the adjustments for volume and you're good to go. Listen to the stereo and talk to the missus. The passenger has a volume control also. The rider can turn it off if the noise from the pillion gets too loud:big-grin-emoticon: Did you just get your Venture? John

We will also be riding at a casual pace except for the trip to the rally and the trip home after we tour the BRP and Skyline and that will be mostly interstate. My wife says I have to learn to smell the roses:Laugh:

Hey Raceman, My wife and I are planning to do the BRP and Skyline in July and I was going ask the same question you did. Now I can just read all the replies to your post. I did the BRP last May with 5 other bikes. (Our wives let us out for a week:thumbsup:) I fell in love with it but we were riding hard (floor board scrapping hard) so I didn't get to see much. We started out just planning to do this ride, but then found out that the Venture rally falls in the same time period, so we are going to the rally in Potato Creek, then hi-tailing it south and riding the BRP north. It's ambitious, but we will have 5 or 6 days to play with on the BRP and Skyline. It is a day and half of hard riding from the top of the Skyline to home. But on a Venture, no ride is hard:big-grin-emoticon: Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. John Fredericton, NB

So why is it only available in the US? Maybe all us Canucks should switch to Kawasaki

Just a caution on the tank bag. I have one and I use it a lot on longer trips so the wife can get more stuff on the bike:680: I don't remember the brand, but the caution is the size. I got one that would hold our rain gear and a few other things that I want quick and easy access to. The down side, is doing tight turns as the handlebars hit it and reduce the turn radius. (Parking lots, u-turns, backing out of parking spots, etc) I also love the map case. I'm not ready for the GPS yet as I like taking the wrong roads. Happened to me today and ended up on a really nice biking road.

I'm on my 3rd set wide white walls on my 07 Midnight and I'll never go back. They add a lot of class and get lots of comments. But they are a pain to keep clean, especially the back. I usually take my bags off at least once a month to give the bike a good cleaning so it is a good time to do an extra good job on them. Sorry, all my good pictures are on my backup drive and I'm too tired to get one.

Now I see it... I thought at first glance that it might be some kind of extension for the passenger floorboard. There's a reason I wear glasses. I'll be ordering soon. John

What is the shipping cost to Canada? Also, what is on your rear footrest? Thanks, John

Better check your bolts!
johnny-canuck replied to waterbug's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Same thing on my '07. At 4000 Km (2400 miles) I was washing the bike after an all day excursion. Found 2 bolts missing, 1 almost missing. (1 of the missing and the almost missing were on the trunk supports.) Spent the next couple of hours tightening. After that the side bad bolts fell out as I had missed them and the trunk catch thingie came loose and trunk wouldn't close. Never had a loose nut or bolt on the '85 Wing. Wasn't impressed and told the dealer so. They said to bring it in and the service guys would check it over. I had already done that by then and besides, they were the ones that let it leave the shop like that. -
Rear End Reassembly
johnny-canuck replied to RossKean's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hey Ross, Now that you're an "expert", I know where to go when I do mine:big-grin-emoticon: Looks like the rain is going away for the Toy Ride tomorrow. We're heading to Laconia as soon as it is over. Hopefully we stay dry... John -
Front Wheel Removal questions
johnny-canuck replied to johnny-canuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That was easy. So why do the dealers charge an arm and a leg? It took me longer to find my wrenches than to drop the wheel. I didn't know about the tire identification before. I just looked at the tire and it was made in 2002. That means it was 5 years old when I bought it. Now that irritates me. I will be checking the new one before it goes on for sure. Thanks for all the help. John -
Front Wheel Removal questions
johnny-canuck replied to johnny-canuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks guys, I didn't think it was all that difficult. This is the first time I've had my local dealer do a tire. All the rest I had done at another shop but I need the tire on for a weekend run and can't get to the other place. The dealer here charges $34 to do it if I take the wheel in and $70 if it is on the bike. I told them I thought they were crazy so I'm taking the wheel in and that will be the last one they do for me. I'm scared to ask what a rear would be... The other place charges $35 on the bike and they're not even a Yamaha dealership. John -
I am going to take my front wheel into the dealer to get a tire put on because they want a fortune to do it. I had a quick look tonight and it doesn't look that difficult. Is there anything I should be aware of? Do I have to remove the brakes before removing? Do I need to do anything with the bearings? 44,000 Kms (26,400 Miles) Thanks, John

Thanks to all that replied. We did get a set at a dealer not too far from Pigeon Forge and were able to continue on our way. I don't know how you folks that live around there ever get to work in the morning. The roads are soooo much fun! We pointed north and picked anything that wasn't an interstate. Beautiful roads, not much traffic. I hear the scenery is nice too but we were pushing pretty hard and I didn't get to see much besides ashpalt:thumbsup2: We got home with all the bikes in one piece although a couple of us need new front tires and the bottom of my floor boards are all scrapped up. Love it!!! I must apologise to all you Virginians. I reduced your deer population by one. We were coming down off a mountain somewhere in Virginia doing about 70 - 75mph and a deer ran into the side of me. Head butted my leg, flipped in the air, did a sumersault, landed in the ditch, got up and then collapsed. I couldn't see any damage from the seat so kept on going. When we stopped, there wasn't even a hair on the bike. Just some dust rubbed off the saddle bag. The 2 guys behind me were amazed that there was no damage considering how far the deer flew. The bike didn't even waver when hit. A good bike and a guardian angel sure help. If I didn't have to work, I'd be back down next week. John

I appreciate the offer. We just did the Dragon and are headed back north to Canada. Hopefully we can find something closer. There is a Harley shop behind the hotel but they don't seem too helpful. The only other place close doesn't open till 10. I will keep your number though, just in case. Thanks, John

We are sitting in Pigeon Forge, TN with a bike short on rear brake pads. Is there anyone around this area that knows where we can find a set? Thanks, John

Thanks for all the tips. Some of the places I've heard of, some not. We'll be seeing as much as we can. I can't wait to get there. I really wanted to get to Vogel, but family plans got in the way:( Cookie, what part of Canada you coming too???? John

Six of us, with our wives permission, are heading down to the Dragon's Tail for a week of fun and frolic. We will be spending 4 or 5 days in the area. 2 Ventures, 2 Kawasakis, 1 Harley, and I'm not sure on the 6th. We will probably have to throttle the Ventures back so the rest can keep up:12101: Are there any roads or sights in the area that are "must sees"??? We leave here on May 16. John

I had the same thought this morning when I was trying to get my wife to check it and all she saw was dirt on the little window There's gotta be a better way. I think Yamaha's engineers were sipping saki or something when they came up with this one.

I just bought a Show Chrome windshield. Is there anything that I shouldn't use on it? I plan to use mostly water and pledge to clean it. Does car wash soap hurt them? Thanks, John

I have the CTC jack. I've been using pieces of 2x4 but I like the puck idea better. I'm always afraid the wood will split. When I'm putting the jack under, I put a 2x4 under the side stand so the bike is more upright to start.

It is a great ride. Here are a couple of events going on this summer in Cape Breton. Both involve the Trail. http://www.capebretonbikefest.ca/ http://ride4thecure.ca/ And this is happening on the West end of NS, not too far from the Bar Harbour/Yarmouth ferry. www.wharfratrally.com And while you are in NS, the Sunrise Trail and the South Shore from Halifax to Yarmouth are nice rides also. I live in New Brunswick, but like to ride in NS. When I'm not cruising around the New England states Enjoy your trip, John

My wife used to sleep all the time. Bought her a new camera and now all I hear is click, click, click ... We were on our way to Cape Code a couple years ago and we did a long sharp curved ramp onto a toll highway. Bike was in a good lean for about a mile. The toll booth was at the end of the ramp. I pulled up to the toll and stopped just ahead of the window as she pays the tolls. Nothing happened so I looked back and she was asleep The lady in the booth had a really strange look on her face...

I belong to a local club that is made up of people who like to ride. There are a lot of brands, including Harleys. There is a lot of bantering between us and all the non-harley riders like to give the Harley riders a hard time as they do us. But it is all in fun. We just like to ride (and eat). Sometimes we even swap bikes. I have met Harley riders with attitudes and have noticed that some parts of the country are worse than others. But I have met some really nice people on Harleys. I once spent some time under an overpass in a rain storm with 5 Harley riders I never met before, and had a great time. Maybe the Harley people are upset cause they can't catch us I have also met some people on other brands that are idiots.
