That Mike guy is just plain cruel... Putting in pics like that when us poor Northerner's are suffering. Hey Ross, I had it out Saturday for a bit. Got is all dusty. Horn works good. Scared a guy trying to pull out of a driveway without looking. Hopefully by Tuesday it will be good to ride. AFTER work.

This is our day today. For you Southern folk, the thing NOT covered is a snow blower:cry: The covered one is an '07 Midnight Venture:mad: Hmm, maybe if I attach one to the other... We're lucky, some places to the east of us got over a foot of the stuff.

engine noise through headset
johnny-canuck replied to dragonwood's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
This is why I love this site. I get answers to questions I didn't know I wanted to ask. I was wondering how to connect my sat radio without having to plug in the front of the cassette. Now I know John -

V7Goose's windshield bracket supports
johnny-canuck replied to Jinksy4's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I just finished putting a Bad Boy horn inside the front fairing. As I was putting it back together I noticed the broken brackets. Came in the house, did a search on "windshield", and found this. I guess I've got another project now Thanks for the article. John -
I had an 85 goldwing before the Venture. Used everything on the windshield with no problems. I used Windex and Rainex on the Venture. One of them made the windshield cloudy and I haven't been able to get it off. It almost looks like it melted the windshield coating. I heard that Windex will damage the windshield so that might be the problem.

engine noise through headset
johnny-canuck replied to dragonwood's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I don't know what is causing your problem, but I get engine noise through the speakers/headphones when using the Satellite radio. I have it plugged into the aux input on the cassete. Probably the same thing. -
Dragerman, Thanks for the info and pictures. The last one is good. It's been a long time since I've seen water without ice. Attached is a pic of the view from my front porch. There is a river out there somewhere. And they're calling for more snow The pictures are helpful. I was debating which side of the headlight to put it on. Now since I've got it all apart I may do the headlight mod as well. I hadn't noticed that mod before. And since I've got the front off, I may as well lower the front end. If I keep this up, I may never get it back together... John

Thanks Everyone for your input. I have decided to put this one in the front fairing. I found Freebird's instructions right on the money. Thanks Dragerman for the link. I now have the front cowling laying on the floor. I need to get a few parts and then I'll hook 'er up. If I need a second, I'll probably put it on the right by the engine (chrome of course). This site is great. All the free technical help I need Now if I could just get rid of all the snow between my shed and the driveway John

Has anyone installed a Bad Boy or Stebel horn inside the lower fairing or in the front cowling on a second gen? I have the plain jane Bad Boy and don't want to mount it on the side by the engine. I thought it would fit in where the factory horn is but that looks tight. I haven't put much effort inot it yet as I just got the horn. Hoping someone has already done it and save me a bunch of time trying different locations. Mounting it on 2007 Midnight Venture. Thanks, John

Installing Bad Boy Horn in Fairing
johnny-canuck replied to johnny-canuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hmmmmm!!! Not sure about Mark:clap2: -
I have a Bad Boy horn (plain jane). Has anyone installed one (or the Stebel Nautilis) in the Lower front fairing? I was thinking of replacing the stock horn on the lower left. I had a quick look today and it looks tight. Bike is still in the shed. Tons of snow between shed and driveway. Thanks, John

-5F. That would be a nice warm day here:hurts: It has been getting down to -31F here in the last few days. Good thing about it being that cold is it doesn't snow much... Just turn up the thermostat and the old furncace blows out that hot air. I'll be glad when riding weather gets here. John

I have the J&M set. Got them from Yamaha. I had a problem with the cable on mine. Yamaha refused to help or even give me options other than buy another new one as it was a year old. I contacted J&M and John himself helped me out. Long story short, J&M replaced the problem cable free of charge. With that kind of service, I'd get J&M again, BUT not from Yamaha. I guess biking season is over for another year. We got 8 or so inches of the white stuff today John

Sirius Radio
johnny-canuck replied to 2Whlsrollin's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have a Sirius Starmate 3. Not the most expensive but not the cheapest either. I also have reception issues. Most of the time it is good but some days there is nothing. I have travelled a highway one day and had excellent reception, two days later on same road on sunny day - no reception. The radio itself is fragile. I dropped it about 2 feet and the display broke. It still works but can't read what is happening. Sirius and the store both said no can help. I am considering going to XM but I like the Sirius programming. Good luck... -
New motorcycle passenger bill introduced in Ontario ...
johnny-canuck replied to a topic in Watering Hole
Our problem in Canada is finding politicians with working brains. Here in New Brunswick, they were talking about bringing in a law that makes it illegal for anyone under 14 to operate any kind of motorized vehicle (atv, motorcycle, snowmobile, etc) UNLESS they are participating in organized racing... Apparently racing is safe and riding around the back yard isn't. I think it was passed, but I'm not sure. I didn't follow it too closely as my kids are grown and gone. Too bad politicians can't find something useful to do instead of trying to protect us from ourselves. We are also the country that brought in gun registration. As if the criminals are going to register their guns before they commit a crime. I hope it doesn't pass in Ontario. Can we outlaw politicians????? -
I ran between New Brunswick and Boston and Hartford for 4 years, at least twice a month. In that stretch, especially in Maine, if you don't pass on the right, then you can spend a lot of time behind slow drivers who love that left lane. Ya gotta watch the troopers in Southern Maine. I was warned by the US customs guy about them. I also got a ticket at the last toll booth southbound:bawling: In central and northern Maine they don't even look at you if you are doing 80mph or less.

Loose headset connection
johnny-canuck replied to johnny-canuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I contacted J&M and got a reply back from John the Prez. Long story short, he is going to replace the cable. No hassles and very easy to work with. So much for Yamaha service. I would definitely go J&M again. John- 8 replies

I emailed J&M earlier today and got a reply. I'm impressed. They wanted more info, so I'll wait to see what they say before I do anything else. Thanks for all the replies. I may be getting back. John- 8 replies

Loose connection in headset
johnny-canuck replied to johnny-canuck's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
They are J&M. They come from Yamaha. It is a two piece from the helmet to the bike. It could be in the cord, but I have to play with the connector on the side of the helmet to get it to work. Moving the connector also moves the cord, so it is hard to say. I was out yesterday playing in the rain and it worked fine all day. Other days, I have to play with it everytime I want to talk.- 2 replies

Loose headset connection
johnny-canuck replied to johnny-canuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I just checked and they are J&M. The short seems to be in the connector on the side of the helmet as I have to move it around to get it to work. I checked with my dealer, who checked with the Yamaha rep for the area and he basically said, "too bad, so sad". I'm not impressed with the attitude of Yamaha Canada.- 8 replies

fall morning, rethinking ClearView ouch
johnny-canuck replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hey Seaking, I live in NB and need a new windshield. (did the rainex thing to the stock w/s before I read about not doing it ...) So I am interested in finding how it goes for you. How much was delivery to NS??? Ride safe and I hope you survive Hanna. John -
I posted this earlier but it didn't seem to go through. So, I'll try again. I have the Yamaha headset for 3/4 helmets. They are 1 1/2 years old and I now have a loose connection in my helmet. It is where the cord from the bike attaches to the side of the helmet. I most times now have to jiggle the connection to get the mic and speakers to work. I haven't tried pulling it apart as I figure that will be a winter project. It is a really poor design as the cord and sticks out at the bottom of the helmet. (I really don't like Yamaha accessories) Has anyone had this problem and how did you fix it? I ride an 07 Midnight. Thanks, John

Drivers Back Rest for Stock seat
johnny-canuck replied to Deacon's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I got a backrest for my Venture from Utopia. It is built to match the seat, is thin and adjustable. Installs in about 20 minutes. I've had it on for a year and half and it is great. Passenger hardly notices it. http://www.utpr.com/royalstar2005.html
