What is the farthest distance you have ridden in one day?
Ponch replied to Yama Mama's topic in Watering Hole
Goose and I did 1100 miles in 24 hrs coming back from Freebird's in June. We both did more after we split up in Texarkana. Total for me was 1300 miles in 27 hours. -
It's just a little rain. We're gonna miss ya. Ponch & LilBit

Glad to have you aboard! :BLUE:

Maybe next time.

We're leaving Houston tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon. Hope to make it to Abilene 1st night. Planned lay overs include Amarillo (maybe) and Denver or Ft. Collins. Anyone headed that way, give a holler. Ponch 832-622-0918

Oh, no you didn't! Mini, hang in there girl! It will come out. At work, we have had a couple of guys get bugs in their ears over the years. It's a horrifying experience. The drops will help fight infection and should help the pain some. LilBit uses a foam ear wax removal available at most stores. You might try that to flush the critter out. Hope it feels better soon, Ponch

removed cassette, added gauges......done

"what is your price for your gauge package?" I have orders for all that I have made so far. None left. Silvester got the last one. I haven't decided on a price yet. I will make some more after we get back from Cody, probably October. By then I will have a price set. I plan to offer the sets in polished Aluminum and primed steel. If I can get some powder coating equipment, I may offer them in powder coated colors, especially black . I had some plates powdercoated locally, man was that awful. All orders will include mounting brackets. I can also offer kits with the necessary adapters (oil fitting drilled & tapped, water fitting re-threaded and the 90° ell for the oil fitting). If needed, I will supply the gauges as well. Ponch -

Can't Keep bike running? ANY HELP
Ponch replied to TheKid's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I changed it in July. I've put over 2500 miles on it since then. I like it because most Auto Parts carry it and probably no Yammy dealer carries the stock pump. Real handy when on the road. -
I sent one back. You're welcome.

Dymanic Cluster Hook up??
Ponch replied to Maritimer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The following quote is from a previous thread http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=30153&page=4 post #49. Hope this helps ya out. Ponch The light mounts are passing light turnsignal adapters. Yamaha doesn't offer them for sale. You have to buy the passing light kit, bar and all to get them. I asked my Yammi parts guy about buying some and he said "they're not available, but let me check on something". He came back about ten minutes later and handed them to me for free. Apparantly the service department had replaced a passing light kit on a wrecked bike and kept the parts. Yay! So if anyone has to replace a passing light kit , save the parts. I took the helmet holders off and drilled/bolted the adapters to the bracket where the holders were. There's not much room inside the gussets behind the helmet holder for the head of a bolt. I tried to find socket head cap screws in a MM10x1.25 (I think) but couldn't find them so I used a little bit longer bolts (hex head) than I needed and put a spacer under the heads so I could get a wrench on the head. I'm thinking about remounting the helmet holders just slightly below where they were. I bought two FRONT turn signal assemblies from www.yamahasportsplaza.com pulled the stock light socket out and replaced them with the dogeyz (Dynamic Clusters) from Custom Dynamics. This way I had run/brake and turn signals in one fixture and and the turn signals still flash amber. I had to add a brake light circuit to the fixture. I ordered clear turn signal lenses as well to make the LED's even more noticeable. Custom Dynamics - clear lenses Most think this looks ugly, but at the risk of being so, I will do whatever I can to get more noticeable lighting on the rear of the Venture. Ask anyone who has ridden behind me on a run if you can see this setup. Hope this helps. Works for me. -
Dymanic Cluster Hook up??
Ponch replied to Maritimer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I recently updated my lightbar thanks to Thom440. The first video is of my original LED installation with Dynamic Clusters and Diamond R light bar. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5CiS_LQb_k]YouTube - LED Tail Lights.wmv[/ame] The second is with the Chrome Glow lightbar and LED License plate bracket. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKTok8EZ_tA]YouTube - LED lights update 09/03/09[/ame] Chrome Glow link You'll need a pair of dual input Diodes from an RV supplier to make the turn signals and brake lights work at the same time. Sorry no link available yet. I pulled the stock light socket out and replaced them with the dogeyz (Dynamic Clusters) from Custom Dynamics. This way I had run/brake and turn signals in one fixture and and the turn signals still flash amber. I had to add a brake light circuit to the fixture. I ordered clear turn signal lenses as well to make the LED's even more noticeable. Custom Dynamics - clear lenses I used an electronic flasher instead of load equalizers. It works great. I also have the LED tailight with 1157 plug in. I added some bullet point lighted license plate bolts to light up the license plate. The only thing about using LED's or an elctronic flasher is the self canceling feature won't work any more. Ponch -
If its sealed beam (stock lamp), pm or email an address and I'll send you one.

After having my AIS disconnected for about a year and a half, I hooked it back up after changing mufflers back to stock. It popped and crackled, etc. like crazy. It turns out the carbs and plugs needed attention. Now it occassionally pops on decel, but usually is pretty quiet. When it acts up again, I know I have problems some where.

Can't Keep bike running? ANY HELP

...You can buy a Mr. Gasket 3 psi pump from most Auto Parts stores for about $40.00 that works quite well. -
What does mounting a rear tire on the front (mounted backwards) do for you?
-
My passenger seat cover was coming apart at the seams too. I took it to an upholsterer who wanted $150.00 to recover it and he would not match the original stitch design. I bought a new one through Seatle Sports Plaza for around $100.00

I use the SunPro brand available at AutoZone and Advanced Auto (others, too I'll bet). These are available in white or black face, chrome or black bezel. Also O'Reilly Auto Parts sells Equus brand (white face only) which are very good. Auto Meter makes excellent gauges but so far I haven't found 1 1/2" gauges from them. All of the above mentioned gauges come with oil, water & volts only. Harbor Freight offers a set, but the only ones I've seen so far come in black face and black bezel. These would probably look great on a Midnight color scheme. HF gauges are oil, water & amps. They may have a volt meter option, I don't know. There are many other options out there. Just find a set you like. They just need to be 1 1/2" if you are going to put the gauges in place of the cassette player. Ponch -

Thanks, Jeff. I can't wait to find out how to do the gauge faces in Antique White! This only gets better! That's my ammeter. I hope to put it in the gauge cluster and move my tach to that spot. I just need to find an 1 1/2" ammeter in white face/chrome bezel. Ponch -

I just upgraded the dash plate drawing to show the radius at the upper corners. Also added a drawing for the mounting brackets. Ponch -
Sounds like you have yet another issue with your builder/manufacturer. Oy!...

I've been thinking about this for a while and I think I can do it. I'm thinking you can add an extra fused/switched power feed to the turn signal circuit at the fuse (brown wire). Hide the switch behind the seat or wherever. Then you can turn it on with the key out of the ignition and operate the 4 way flashers with its own switch. Any thoughts?
