Rear brake pad with pics
Rocket replied to BJB's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I looked it up, $71. per pair for pistons & seals (2 pair needed) from flatout mc, the choice is your on the source & what to replace. But some things I have priced there is $50. cheaper there, than at bikebandit. I wouldn't even ask the local dealer, as with prior experience from him, at least twice the flatout price. -

1989 Venture Oil Leak - HELP!
Rocket replied to jfarr53's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Also check the bolts holding the valve cover down, some may have loosened off, causing the leak to occur, I have seen this before.............. -
New Q's on 2nd gear
Rocket replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The half clips are the newer type from Yammi, if you look at a Vmax parts diagram, it will show the half clips. I went through this last year........... Ordered a full clip, per parts diagram & received a half clip, so there is a single half clip in mine. -
Look here for mounting ideas too http://www.ram-mount.com/products/motorcycles.htm They make mounts for most, if not all, of the handhelds.........

Forever Bleeding (brakes)
Rocket replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
For bleeding the masters, did you do these seperately, after the re-builds & prior to hooking up to the normal brake system??? AKA Bench bleeding in Automotive terms......... I am not sure if it would make a difference in your case. Due to amount of fluid pumped through the system, but it may help determining the cause, of the problem.... -
More likely removing it, but do you really want to go through that, to tow it??? Probably not...............

Never heard of it, but not being in that field, not surprising. I think the big thing, is to give the upper fork tubes a wipe weekly (or more as needed) with Plexus or similar, to keep them fairly clean. I have read, that regular cleaning of the bug guts off the tubes, will keep the seals from leaking.
-
I thought you had already lost them, but Dan's post cleared that up, you still have a few left............ :stirthepot:

The grease you came across was at the speedo drive, the messy stuff was fork oil. Typical Combat Arms type, can't tell the difference...... Nope I wasn't bored, you basically saw my normal weekend routine, coffee & forum, working on a scoot, some tv and food whenever. Only read about a dozen pages, of a book that I brought along, while there. I had told you where Gord's camera was, I guess you didn't want to get it oil coated, can't blame you for that.

I should have worded it differently, I meant to say pressure plate conversion. I had not yet had a coffee, when I posted this above. Since then I left Sarges46 location in Manitoba & now, back in Wainwright Alberta. This is about 10 hours driving time (one way), with only stopping for fuel, about 4 tanks of gas round trip in the truck.
-
Yup they are different. But you could do the clutch plate conversion, on the 1300 motor, if desired.

I was teaching Rick how to change fork seals, on Noddy's scoot today. The pull upper tube method was used, as we wanted to check out, a couple other things. We had a later start today, than we wanted, so we will finish putting it back together tomorrow.

Carl, you might be better off doing this mod, easier filter changes & better selection of filters available.
-
Probably not, but it looks like he remembers how to read & type......

He has the best series of the Venture. Although a slower model. You didn't notice that this thread is in "First Gen Tech Talk", maybe that is why you ride a 2nd gen (nearly blind & need to keep the speed down)......... :stirthepot::rotf:
