1. Are these diaphragms from Sirius at $89.00 for a set of four the same make/quality that the Ebay seller is handling?
2. 'thecount'......When did you have your seat done? How did you handle the shipping....Canada Post/USPS or Courier? Did you have issues with duty and taxes? I've heard and noticed an increase in shipping costs via Canada Post and USPS....esp. on items i've inquired about on Ebay. I have a 1st Gen. and have /am considering his mods for that seat. Thanks.
3. There is a company in Kitchener, Ontario Canada called Sirius Consolidated Inc. www.siriusconinc.com . They carry a fairly large selection of carburetor parts (and other motorcycle parts too) many geared to older bikes. They don't list the diaphragms for the Venture but it may be a source to persue. This may be the place TimGray is referring to. Also if there is a source in Japan I have an aquaintance there that could possibly help out (Japanese address). Just some thoughts. As I stated earlier I am also interested in getting at least one set
4. Oops.....sorry......re-read the thread and saw the location and vendor on Ebay....and found it. As usual.....to Canada shipping/handling/fees etc. are at a premium.
5. Can you give us the name of the vendor who supplies these diaphragms on Ebay...or the Ebay reference number...I would be interested in purchasing a set too. I have checked a few imes but don't see it.
6. I just bought these bearings at a local supplier we use. Nachi brand...which are not cheap offshore...at $4.00 each. They are number 6303 ZZ.
7. SilvrT....I had also thought of trying to squirt a little gas down each carb throat... with air filter removed....to see if it would fire quicker. Since you have tried it with some success...I will also. Maybe can eliminate if it is fuel related. Thanks.
8. Also...have done/replaced/upgraded fuse holder.
9. Thanks. Have new plugs in. Have done fuel filter and sea foam. Have checked and cleaned some of the harness connectors. Will check try some of the other suggestions.
10. I notice my bike is difficult to start after sitting for an extended length of time. If my bike sits for anytime say over 3-4 weeks to several months it seems to be very difficult to start. I let the fuel pump prime the fuel system...usually cycling key 2-3 times. It cranks strong and fast but won't fire. When I persist it will finally go after excess cranking and various throttle and enrichener positioning. I have tried different enrichener and throttle positions but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I have new plugs in. Under normal conditions and in the riding season when using the bike on a regular basis...but not daily....it starts excellent without issues...usually on the first crank when hot and after 3-4 cranks when cold.....and then runs excellent. And then it seems to start best with enrichener full on and a small amount of throttle when cold and just a small amount or no throttle when hot. It seems to me that it's a fuel problem??? Any suggestions?? I have just done the battery cable upgrade and starter internal ground wire modification...but this didn't make any difference to the above issue but am hoping it will help on hot cranking ( i also am noticing the hot cranking problem...but it always starts well when hot despite this). Thanks
11. Maybe a little off topic. Contrary to everyone's comments....we have planned a family vacation to MB in mid-March (during spring school break here)....it is somewhat of a winter get-away location for many Canadian families. Deposits on our accomodations have already been made months ago. Initially my brother (also a member here) and I had thought of trailering our bikes there to do some riding but are now looking at renting something for a day or two. Any recommendations for renting and for riding routes?? With the current attitude maybe rentals will be scarce?? I know the accomodations we have reserved don't allow bikes on their site (don't ask)....we will be in the North Myrtle beach area. If we would trailer as a last resort we could locate them at a 'store and lock' or maybe someone in close proximity could loan a corner of their driveway?? I would appreciate comments from anyone who lives in or is familiar with the area.
12. I'm replacing the front tire and thought i would replace the front wheel bearings while things are apart. I have picked up 2-6303ZZ replacements locally. Should both bearings retain the metal shields? Currently on my wheel....I notice the left side bearing outer shield is removed....the side where the speedometer drive plate is right next to the bearing.....is this correct? Should I apply any or additional lube when assembling? Thanks.
13. A local dealer here also closed up just prior to Christmas. Cycle City in Burlington Ontario Canada....carrying the Suzuki and Yamaha badges for the past +20 years. I'm told there is a bankrupcy notice on the doors. It was my handy source for OE Suzuki and Yamaha parts. There are still other dealers in the area...but not as handy for me. Too bad to hear these things.
14. Here is the way it came.
15. Thanks to all for input. I was successful today. I did find the actual part and # at NAPA online. Went to another NAPA store today....same story...guy couldn't find the number...he found it online too...but says Canada and USA use different numbering....he persisted...phoned the supplier for thermostats in Canada (Gates)...they crossed it to the number here...2 minutes later had it in my hand. Turns out the part number in Canada on the system here is 33708. Printed on the box underneath this number is '156'. Go figure. The system here doesn't seem to reference that number....yet it is printed right on the box. The guy couldn't believe it. He says NAPA is slowly working towards a common number system in both countries. Thanks again everyone. One last question...should i drill a small 'bleed' hole in the thermostat rim...as has been suggested in previous posts here??? It seems the original has one of those rattle pins in the rim.
16. Did u purchase that recently...is it possible there is a another number on the box or a letter code in front of the number??
17. Does anyone have a part no. for a 'substitute' thermostat to fit an '88 Venture. I have read past posts on a NAPA #156 substitute but went to my local NAPA store today and they can't come up with any number like that...the guy tried different number/letter/code combinations but couldn't get anything to come up. Is the OE thermostat 180 degree? And is /was the NAPA 156 the same temp. rating? Appreciate any input anyone has on this. Thanks!

Plug wires

bongobobny.......the set u bought on ebay....is it approx. $37.00 and fully fabricated set with wire and new resistor plug caps??? I am also thinking of replacing mine this winter season...and have looked at this set on ebay. Just wanting some feedback from someone who has purchased them. Thanks
19. I have just purchased #6180 Kuryakyn grips for my '88 VR.......any recommendations/suggestions for installation, orientation and positioning of these grips?? Thanks.
20. Just did riding in some of the areas your talking about....on Labor Day weekend....Hamilton-Parry Sound-Sudbury-Manitoulin-Tobermory-back to Hamilton. From Hamilton to Parry Sound we avoid Toronto and go by way of Wasaga Beach area. Longer ride but more scenic and not as busy. And run a small stretch of 400. Ferry ride is about 1 hour and 45 minutes...$34.00 bike and rider. As mentioned...depending on time of year and time of day restaurants and gas stations on Manitoulin keep seasonal irregular hours.
21. I seem to have a bit of oil seepage from my oil filter housing (1st generation). It seems to be coming from around the large O-ring that seals the oil filter housing 'cup' to the block....the center bolt area O-ring area is dry. I've just installed a new O-rings again and after about 100 km it seems to want to start seeping again. It seems to be very minimal seepage....not even leaving drops on the floor. Any thoughts on me getting a tight seal on this (without me going to the spin on filter adapter)??? Thanks!
22. Don't forget to check the 'Back-Up' fuse. (for memory). I believe it's 5A. I just recently had to replace mine.
23. If you do go ahead and buy/try the Sonic Springs I would be curious to know how they work for you. I have emailed Sonic several times with questions.....they are very helpful to give advice and information. If you have questions email them. They do recommend the 1.2 kg/mm rated springs for our bikes and also going to 15W fork oil (although your dealing with a side car which could make things different). I want to try them too....but am hesitant to spend more money on an 'experiment'. I have already gone the Progressive route and a total fork rebuild with 'mixed' results. Let us know how you make out.
24. Sorry...some glitches in the copy/paste.
25. As I described earlier.....when finished I had everything bolted/fitted together....wheel (off of the ground), axle, forks and brace, etc. But I had left the fork springs out which allowed me to manually work the front forks assembly to full compression and extension. After I did this everything worked freely with out any binding. Progressive also discusses some of this when fitting your bike with their springs. This is what they say...... Fork Braces: We have found numerous cases of binding forksffice:office" /> due to improperly mounted fork braces. Our experience has led us to conclude that even the slightest misalignment while installing the fork brace will cause the forks to bind. If, after installing the springs, a harshness exists (especially on small bumps and freeway expansion joints), remove the fork brace and ride the bike again over the same route. If harshness has disappeared, refer to the fork brace installation instructions for proper and concise installation to eliminate the misalignment. If harshness still exists, your front end (wheel/forks) may be misaligned. Consult your shop manual for proper wheel and fork alignment
