Question for those with the Baron's lowering kit
WIKD replied to WIKD's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Rick that is a good point but when I lowered my Warrior it said the same thing and 3 years later with plenty of passenger miles on it I suffered no ill effects. Now the Venture is a different story but I would assume everyone warns of the same thing. In saying all this I actually did not lower the rear of my bike. I started by lowering the front by sliding the fork tubes and was planning on lowering the rear the next day off. After riding the bike for two days with the front lowered I liked the difference so much I never lowered the rear. It rides excellent and handles so much better and looks good too. I am very glad I did this. -
Yup. About the same temp here as Tenn. Only put on about 50 miles but I ride almost every day so 50 ain't bad.

The mounting brackets that Squidley sells is the way to go. Check out the classified section under 2nd Gen parts and I think a lot of the info is in there.

Question on fuel tank and bib
WIKD replied to WIKD's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks guys. If there is no weld seam then mines coming off like hig4s's. Just don't like the way it looks. -
I was wondering what was under the tank bib and if it had any real significance or if it was just decoration? I didn't want to pull it off if it covered anything up. Anyone have a picture of what it looks like under the bib? Not really thrilled with the look. I would prefer a clean top to the fuel tank.

Date, Time and Location set for Daytona Bikeweek Meet
WIKD replied to Animal's topic in Watering Hole
Honey our parade usually starts at 12 and goes until 8 or 9 pm. There is the ride down Main St. then everyone dismounts and heads for Main St. Usually 25-40 fireman in kilts is a good time. It's also usually the only time all year we all get together since the club is nationwide. I appreciate the invite but probably won't see you guys Friday. Hope to run into some of yous Thur, Sat or Sun. -

The wording may be a bit muttled but I am all for something along these lines. I constantly worked accidents where a bike is doing way in excess of the speed limit. I have been riding down the interstate doing 70 in a 55 on my bike, you have to around here just to keep up with traffic, and have been passed by a crotch rocket in MY lane making me look like I'm sitting still. Easily over 100 mph and this is common place, not the exception when driving on any major hiway around here. They want to take themselves out well good for them. The problem is they are more often harming someone else also, pedestrian, cager or even another motorcyclist. Not to mention giving motorcyclist in general a bad reputation. Non motorcyclist never remember the person on the motorycle that let them into traffic or stopped when they were stuck in the road to help push their car, they remember the bike flying past them in traffic doing 30+ mph over the speed limit. If this was geared to get motorcyclist out of Florida like someone suggested I don't think they would make the infraction 30 mph over the limit. Instead of *****ing about the law maybe more of us should be *****ing at the ones doing the things that are getting the laws suggested. Just my .02.

I have done this ride a few times and it's a good ride. My club uses it because it gives you a little of everything. We start from the Harley dealership in Kissimmee on 192 across from Old Town. You can alter this any way you want but this way takes you mostly back roads both twisty and straight for about 145 miles and 5 hours if you stop for lunch. Leave Harley dealership and head west on 192 to Avalon Rd north (545) Take Avalon north across Hwy 50 to the first light which is Oakland Make a left on Oakland and follow until it turns into 438 You'll need to turn right just before you get to 50 again by the west orange trail. There 438 will turn into old hwy 50 Follow that and it will turn into 455 Stay on 455 till you come to a stop sign where it intersects with 561 Make a left on 561 and follow that till you hit Hwy 27 Make a left on 27 and go about 4 miles to Old Hwy 50/Washington and make a right. By now you may be hungry so when you get to the stop sign about a block away look on the SW corner. It is the Lake Minneola Inn which has the Tiki Bar and Grill behind it. An excellent burger while you're sitting on the deck on the edge of the lake. Leaving Tiki go south on Main St. till you hit Hwy 50 and go right Take Hwy 50 west into Tarrytown and make a left on 471 Take 471 till it dead ends (about 37 miles) into 98 and make a left Take 98 to the light which is Rockridge Rd and go left Stay on Rockridge and it will curve into Deen Still Rd. If you make a left you can follow rockridge but don't. Take Deen Still till you cross Hwy 27 and about 2 miles look for Lake Wilson Road (Chevron on corner) and make a left Stay on lake Wilson, which will turn into Old Lake Wilson when it crosses Osceola Polk Line Rd, till you get to Hwy 192 again and make a right. The Harley Dealer will be about a mile or so on the left.Sounds complicated but I'm a bit anal and wouldn't want anyone to get lost. Ride it once and you'll see how easy it is and never need the directions again.

Must be the same translator program I have. Came up with the exact same translation:doh:

Just wanted to add my well wishes to both of you. I'm so glad to read you were able to walk away from it, although banged up. Heal quick.

You are a Saddle Sore Biker

Out of the three big companies I know in Florida, Geico-Progressive-State Farm, I found Progressive to be the cheapest for the coverage I need. I fall into a seperate category since I need a large amount of coverage to be able to cross the taxiways at the airport to get to my Station.

I may get flamed for this and may eat my words in the future since I have only owned the bike a few months and put only 3500 miles on it. But have only come close to dropping the bike once in the sand on the beach, two up in a slow speed turn. However getting on the throttle stood in right back up. I feel that the bike isn't unstable at slow speeds, you just have to alter your riding style a bit because it will fall quickly into a turn at slow speed. This is even more noticable for me when I jump off my Warrior and then climb on the Venture or vice versa. On a side note I can see where an outsider looking in would not get a good feeling about buying a RSV with some of the way things are written here about it. I'm not saying that the opinions are wrong but the overwhelming opinion is that you can't own a RSV without dropping it or even expecting to drop it. I, for one, do not expect to drop the bike or will even consider it to be the norm. But that's my opinion.

Suspension / leveling question
WIKD replied to WIKD's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well I haven't had a chance to ride yet but all the levels seem about the same as before. Just not sure whether I want to lower the rear yet. -
Question for those with the Baron's lowering kit
WIKD replied to WIKD's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Terry I lowered the front using your directions, thanks for that, and have the Barons kit but have not installed it yet. I was wondering how it would ride with the kit installed. It might be an optical illusion but it seems like with the front lowered I sit perfectly level now. If I install the kit won't that lower the rear 1.5 inches and turn it back to the stock configuration, only lower? And won't that add to the slow speed instability that the stock RSV deals with? Any comments or suggestions would be welcome. -
I recently bought the Barons lowering kit and planned on lowering the bike. Since i had to do other things also I started with the front. thanks to the directions in the tech library I was able to lower the front fairly quickly. Now the question. With the front lowered one inch the bike now sits perfectly level. If I install the baron's kit won't that put the back end 1.5 inches lower and throw off the way it sits again? Has anyone lowered just the front? I was lowering it for looks only but now that it sits level I'm thinking that I just cured the slow speed instability problem and I'm not sure if I want to upset it again. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Great pictures Thom. Although are you sure you didn't at least threaten to feed the kid in the last pic to the gators?

Must just be my bike but even on warm mornings it needs the choke on to start quickly and rev cleanly. Since I always ride with the choke on for the first block and then kill it I'm sure my time for leaving it on is just around the corner. I have been on a FI ride for the past two years, and with riding both now, theres been twice I've sat on the Warrior and couldn't figure out where the choke was.
