  2. The K&N's do not filter as well as the paper filters. http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/kn-vs-oem-filter.html http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest3.htm They also don't give any better gas mileage. http://www.metrompg.com/posts/air-filter-part-2.htm
  3. It looks like the GPS is separate from the SPOT unit and they have to be used in tandem and one would still have to carry 2 units. The one advantage is that the user can send custom text messages describing a situation vs only using the "help" button. http://blog.delorme.com/2010/01/19/pn-60w-and-spot-communicator-question-and-answer/
  4. 12 months of free activation with purchase of SPOT 2. http://www.tigergps.com/spot2or.html?productid=spot2or&channelid=FROOG Found a better price here. http://www.protravelgear.com/buoytoys/products/SPOT-2-SATELLITE-GPS-MESSENGER-SILVER.html
  5. That's fancy. Im not sure I'd spend that much money though. The stand alone SPOT unit can usually be found for around $100 and often if found on sale, the unit is free with activation.
  6. Im not for certain, but I believe that uses cell towers to track instead of a GPS signal so if she was in an area with no cell reception, it may not work.
  7. When I first read about BeemerBob, it got me thinking about this thread. http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=40707&highlight=goldwing+colorado It took 10 days to find him and it was a pair of hunters who found him, not someone in the search party. Even without being able to hit the "help" button, the lack of movement on the GPS tracking page would have alerted someone who was following his progress and they could have sent help much sooner.
  8. Paint the saddlbebag lids black.
  9. http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50620 BeemerBob was out on a ride by himself and hit a washout. Went down hard and probably cracked a couple ribs. Thanks to his SPOT, they were able to find him and bring him to safety. His cellphone had no service. He hit the "help" button and people responded. Even if you were to crash and couldn't hit the "help" button, you can still be tracked through the GPS signal and google maps.

  11. Maybe not an apology, but an attaboy for manning up and finishing what he started.
  12. Here's a better video and a little more complete story. http://www.wdtn.com/dpp/news/video:-i-675-crash-caught-on-tape
  13. Just the action of being seen makes it a safety feature. If people pull over or are confused, that's their problem with not knowing the laws. Im not sure you'll be able to find any "hard" data to support that a modulating headlight is a significant safety feature because they prevent accidents. Perhaps you ask every person who sees it if they noticed the headlight. I guess another way to check it would be to gather from a number of motorcycle accidents where the motorcyclist was hit from the front, most likely from someone pulling out in front of them and compare how many had modulators and how many did not. Other than that, I doubt youre going to find any statistics. That's like the government saying they have hard data proof that they saved 2 million jobs. If folks wanna run em, run em, if you don't, then don't.
  14. Glad to hear. At least he's communicating now and he's will to make right.
  15. F... it, Im sellin the bike and driving a tank everywhere.
  16. There's a vanilla but nothing labeled "ice cream". http://www.summitracing.com/search/brand/Manhattan-Oil/Product-Line/Manhattan-Oil-Fuel-Fragrances/?autoview=SKU&page=2
  17. You should be fine just to recharge the 7 volt battery pack. According to Gerbing's site, it only draws 1 amp from the battery pack. It's only a 2.2Ahr battery. Only way to find out is plug it in and see if the fuse pops.
  18. The only thing that pushes me away from the Valk is the fuel mileage. It's an awesome machine.
  19. Tried to kick it sideways to take two of them out?
  20. I think your dealer is trying to double dip on the labor. You're making the right move. If Yamaha does come back and say you pay the labor, I'd just ask for the parts and do it myself.
  21. Did the yamaha rep tell you that or did the dealer say the rep said that?
  22. It'll be fine. I usually change mine every oil change or every other depending on how much time I have or how hot it is outside.
  23. AIS is not a long enough search parameter for the site's search function unfortunately. It has to be 4 letters or more.
  24. Do I answer this as an educated citizen or a member of Congress?
