  1. Time to make a believer out of me. Since trading the RSTD back in August, I thought I'd probably let my membership here expire since we purchased a Victory. Well, I did, for a couple weeks, and really missed it. So I'm back onboard showing off our new ride. Since mid August we've logged about 5K on it. I think had I originally purchased a RSV and not the RSTD, I probably wouldn't be posting this but instead would still own the Venture. We love this Vision and wanted to share some pics. This is a great site and as Rumboogy said a couple weeks back, it's a shame more MC groups can't be this good. http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/looped1/CassvilleFallRideMissouri2011029.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/looped1/PopsArcadiaOklahomaTrip056.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/looped1/BikesBluesBBQandEurekaOct2011123.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/looped1/CassvilleFallRideMissouri2011507.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/looped1/NewPaintArcadiaandPopstrip149.jpg
  2. I'm sure any of us that do some of own work on things, mechanical, woodworking etc have had a day when nothing goes right. Well I have had like 2 weeks of this. It started a couple weeks ago I was working on the bike wiring in a headlight modulator. Somehow I blew a fuse. Then putting the fairing back together, that took a couple times to get everything happy. Then a few days later I attemted teh lowering of the front end forks. When back together the handle bars seemed askew to the right. So a day or so later I took it all apart and redid it. The first time I couldnt get the forks to "slide" up so I had to take the wheel off. So you see where this is going right? Nothing is easy. So today I decided to change the plugs in the wifes Durango. I mean heck it only has like 110K on the orginals. So left bank goes OK. First one on the right bank is really tight comming out. So I do the a little out, then back the other way. About 4 or 5 into this program and "snap" @!#$% I'm thinking I broke of the porclen no biggy right? WRONG it snapped off the bolt part of the plug. I have the entire insulator and electrode everything but the threads and the washer flat part that seats. HMM what now. So I calls a friend @ the Dodge house, his suggestion is an ez out. Well I thought of this but was hoping they had something.... well a little more refined. So I did thru the tool box find the ez outs but the dang things all have square drives. And of course all I have is mainly six point sockets. So off the the store to get 1ea 12 point 10mm. So now I tap the ez out in. I have sprayed several liberal shots of liquid wrench at it hoping to relive some of the corrision. I carefully wind out the troublesome piece. It was a bugger bear all the way out. Should I have expected anything else with the luck I have had lately? Certainly not. Finnaly get the bottom part out and look at the threads, argh the last couple on the plug look like crap. I blow out the hole and try to look but heck its a foot below in a hole. Well maybe the new one will thread in. I have the new plug in a piece of 8-10" long fule line to thread in. No go, should I be suprised? Well as luck would have it the spark plug chaser I have aint right, go figure. It probably went to a ford or something I had 20yr ago. lol So off to the store again for thread chaser. The rest of teh job goes OK and the job is done. But man I'm scared to ride with the way my luck has been the last couple weeks. I think I have put probably 100+ iles on the car/bike/truck in the last 2 weeks or so running up to Autozone or Sears or Advance. The to auto parts places aint but maybe 4 miles one way and Sears is maybe 7 one way. I sure hope I have used up my bad luck.
  3. Any members in Florida have a shim kit...or just the shim tool...that wouldn't mind loaning them out for a couple of weeks? Decided to take the plunge and check the clearance on my valve shims, and replace the ones that need replacing! Thanks!
  4. Our daughter Tiffany (the singer) went to Ft Lauderdale a couple weeks back to visit her boyfriend. He works on a privately owned yacht. Upon arriving back home, she announces that she's moving because she now has a job on the same yacht. She flew out this morning. Ohhhh how I wish I was younger ... I am envious but wish her all the best. They set sail for the Bahamas in a couple weeks and after that, it's off to such places as Spain.... what a tough life it will be for her .... Check it out... http://www.moranyachts.com/Catalog/Yacht/?ID=577
  5. I just received a private message from Bisquit regarding John Nelson (Hipshot). This is all that I know at this time. Please keep him in your thoughts and/or prayers. Just wanted to let you guys know John is in the hospital in Victoria Tx. They're keeping him sedated. They have him on a breathing machine. His doctor has had him on oxygen for several weeks now. He has to fight for every breath. Saw him yesterday, he's resting comfortably. They are running every test known to man as well as taking samples and getting cultures. He's very sick down to 95 lbs a few weeks ago. Hopefully they'll figure out whats wrong and then they'll have a better idea what treatment he needs. He's in ICU so there's a nurse right there. He's being well cared for. Seems like since Jeannie died he's gone downhill fast. I'd appreciate you puttin the word out. All prayers greatly appreciated.
  6. OK folks...I know it's winter and some of us are already going into parked motorcycle syndrome but some of the jokes over the last few weeks have started shifting slightly over the PG line. Please keep it clean.
  7. A few weeks ago I found a set of Hopnel accessory bags listed on Ebay. They were double ugly but I went ahead and bid on them anyway.... and I got them cheap.. After receiving them I used Farnam's Leather New on them. I wasn't sure if they were leather or nauga hide, but figured what the H.. Below are the Before and After pics. They came out pretty nice... They came off a '99RSV so now all I have to do is figure out where they were mounted??
  8. Placed an order with Cruiser Customizing 2 weeks ago. I used them a few times in the past but had some issues with them back then so I didnt order from them anymore. I tried them again thinking that maybe things improved, ordering a Kuryakyn chrome caliper cover from them but 12 days later it still hasn't arrived. The answer they provided via emails only shows they have no real desire at true customer service. If they think a 4 week window for parts delivery is ok then there are plenty of other sources out there for parts. Out of all the sources that i have ordered from, CC seems to be one of the worst. I have used Jake Wilson, Competition Accessories, Phat Performance just to name a few and plenty on Ebay and none of them took that long for a part to arrive. Ok, just venting here...... The pasted item below is from our emails: first is down at the bottom and gos up. Why you would ship a domestic order through International mail makes no sense. The 200 to 300% reduction in shipping costs are on your end, not mine. My $8.00+ shipping charges most certainly would have covered shipping via Priority mail. And there is a tracking # on my order. The part has sat in Orlando Fl for 3 days now. If the answer you provided was supposed to make me feel better it did not. Your shipping policies are atrocious. No item should take 1-4 weeks to be delivered domestically. From: "orders@CC" To: ruffrider99@bellsouth.net Sent: Mon, October 24, 2011 12:32:35 PM Subject: RE: Customer Request: Order Status (LTK494019862879X) Good evening, Your order shipped 10/12/2011 via International Mail. There is no tracking number on these shipments, we do this to dramatically reduce the cost of shipping (sometimes 200% -300%). Shipping International is generally 1-4 weeks for delivery but can take up to 8 weeks just depending on customs. If you do not receive it by the 8 week time frame please let us know and we can review the shipment and reship if necessary. On a side note I believe we are currently trying to use another service as we are aware of the problem as well. I apologize for the wait and hope to have better service for you in the furture. Did you hear? Cruiser Customizing now has gift certificates! A great way for you to get them EXACTLY what they want. Individual Style. http://www.CruiserCustomizing.com ______________________________________________ Subject: Customer Request: Order Status Contact Information Email: ruffrider99@bellsouth.net Order Number: W20691952 My question is about: Order Status Additional Info: I placed an order on Oct 12 and as of today, 12 days later it still has not arrived. The shipping method you use is one of the worst systems I have ever seen. Why you use DHL is lost on me. As a Postal Service employee im aware of all the shipping methods. The delays are huge when you ship items through DHL. For what I paid for shipping you could have just shipped it in a small Priority box and it would have been here within 4 days. I have ordered plenty of bike parts over the years and the only time I ever had trouble was when DHL was involved last year with another company. This could certainly keep me from buying any more parts from CC in the future. Standard Parcel Post shipped directly through the Post Office would be faster then DHL.
  9. Haven't seen a post from Snarley Bill in a long time. I see that he was logged in about 2 weeks ago though. Anyone seen or heard from him? Just wondering if he's doing ok.... Joe
  10. I bought my 2002 gen 2 about 4 months ago and the previous owner said it had a new battery , but after a couple of weeks of occassional use its dead flat , tried re-charging but battery would hold a charge even when not connected !! So i guessed dead cell and replaced the battery charged the new battery fully and fitted it. Over the next few days left it on my optimate charger . But for the following two weeks its been in my car showroom where i work , i went to move it today and guess what Dead! it lights the dash but just clicked when i atempted to start . What could be draining her or do these bikes need to live on the optimate chargers ! Cheers Edge
  11. Charlene and I will both be going under the knife in the next few weeks. I will be having carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand and Charlene will be having it on both hands a couple of weeks apart. I had my right hand done in 2005, and now the left is really giving me fits when I try to use it for anything. I will be out of work for 6-8 weeks, but at the perfect time, the holidays...........
  12. Just wanted to give a shout out to skydoc, where to start, well over the last month or so the clutch has slipped a couple times but figured it would hold till winter since the riding season in northern mi will be ending soon. Well last wed it got bad (I ride 2 up and with a trailer often and have 74000 on the bike) so I called 50 stealers to find out no one stocks the clutch disks and no one could get me in for at least 2 weeks, oh and wanted 450-600 to do the clutch!!! So I made a call to skydoc 20 mins before his post office closed so he RACED there to ship my full upgrade kit. Got it first thing friday morning, now I do alot of my own work but untill I do something once theres always that lil voice "man I dont want to screw this up" but I wasnt waiting 2 weeks either. So I dove in, with one phone call to Earl to check something things went great I really cant believe I was nervous at all. Very straight forward and very good instructions. And now it feels more like a sport bike to me the clutch feels great, the lever maybe a slight bit harder to pull but after 10 mins didnt notice at all. So to anyone thinking of doing this upgrade I say dive in and save yourself the money on the stealer!!!! Just my 2 cents....

  14. I've been at the company resort near Hayward, WI all week at our semi-annual sales meeting. It is finally coming to an end. Tonight I fly home and then I'm taking off next week for a much needed vacation. This has to have been one of the longest weeks in history.
  15. I have a 2008 Venture...I'm very frustrated right now with my dealer trying to diagnose my bike. I'm on my third battery in 8 months. They put the third one in a couple of days ago and from the conversation I think mostly because they don't have a clue. What has been happening is that if I don't ride for a couple of weeks the battery was dying...so I thought there may be a draw on the battery...The dealer said that he was only seeing about a 1.2 Miliamp draw coming from my GPS set up. At first he told me that would drain my battery in two weeks...then when he sent me home with my battery charged back up...it was dead the next day. They did all their troubleshooting and finally they said that it was another bad battery. They put the battery in a couple of days ago...I went riding today and when I got back I noticed a noise coming out of the battery...it sounds almost like its sizzling. I don't think that it should do that...It is still making the noise and the bike has been in my garage for over 3 hours now. I asked about the voltage regulator and they told me they checked it...any suggestions at this point? Thanks...Dee
  16. I forgot where to look to see when it is time to renew membership. Can some one please give me a hand ? It would be nice if it was set up as an automatic e-mail about 2 weeks in advance. Then you just send the money Pay-Pal. Or maybe it already is ? Fuzzy
  17. We're headed out to Virginia Beach today. Looks like we're gonna have cooler weather out there. Haven't been there in 20 years. We'll be in the truck, as we're taking the oldest Son and his wife on a little vacation, before he deploys overseas in 2 weeks. He hasn't seen the beach since he was a baby. I got us two hotel rooms, with hot tubs, overlooking the beach. Should be a great time.
  18. Jeff, you move around so much, where are you going to be for the next few weeks...........I cant keep track of you.
  19. Are there ANY US members near the east end of Lake Ontario willing to help me out. I'm thinking I want to leave my bike trailer at your place for a couple of weeks, during which time I will take it apart. Then I will import trailer "parts" in 2 different trips. Anybody willing to help?
  20. Its been a week and the new len's is great. The replacement surgery went great and Its nice to be able to read with out glasses any more. Still have to use drops in the eye for 3 more weeks but well worth it. Started back on the Grills today.
  21. My bike insurance policy is up for renewal in a couple of weeks and I received the renewal notice (from Dairyland) a couple of weeks ago. It was $338.50. I then noticed that since I bought the Goldwing and sold my Venture a few weeks ago that I had failed to drop the insurance on Venture. So I called my agent and took care of dropping the old bike. Last week I get a new policy renewal for the single bike and noticed that my rate had been lowered to the single bike rate. They dropped it $2.39. I thought someone made a mistake. Surely I couldn't insure a second bike for $2.39. So I called the agent and she said there must be some mistake. She put in a call to Dairyland and their explanation was that I lost my multi-bike discount and the rate was correct. She still thought that was bogus so she shopped the same coverage with other companies and came back with a rate of $210 from American Home. I've never heard of them but she recommended them and said that was who she had her bike insured with. So, I'll be switching insurance soon. FYI, Progressive was $389. Dennis
  22. What: Houston area, SE texas Maintenance Day When: August 21, 2010 - 0700 until ?? Where: My humble abode in NW Houston. (Address published later) Why: The date selected is only 2 weeks before the Pork-In-The-Pines ho-down in Minnesota. I for one will be making the 1400 mile trek up to meet and visit with our northern friends and want to make sure my bike is prepped. Anyone else planning to attend that event can use this MD to get ready. The more eyes on your bike, the better. Food: Main course - brisket prepared by one of the finest BBQ chefs in the area. Accommodations: There are several hotels/motels very close by and I will post more info on them later. Sorry, I have no camping room available. Perhaps one of the local members will offer up something. I have plenty of tools for use however I do not have a tire changer. I'm sure there will be tires to change so maybe someone will lug one along. This run for the northern boarder will also be the first leg of an extended, 2 week, solo trip for me. From Minnesota I will head to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and then down the Tail of the Dragon on my way back to Houston. I should be on the road for about 2 weeks and cover a bit over 4000 miles. So that's pretty much the plan at this point. I know it will be a fine Texas day with heat and humidity as usual. There will be plenty of iced beverages, shade and maybe even some ice cream to help keep you cool. And yes, the house AC will be on for your pleasure! Ya'll come on by...
  23. Some background first. I have a 99 Venture. Early last year I was having charging issues and ended up putting in a new stator (buckeye), new stock rectifier, and new battery. Had no issue the rest of the year. The bike was stored under a porch this winter, so it was exposed to New England cold all winter. I didn't have a way to hook up my battery tender so the battery did unfortunately drain dead. I charged it with my trickle charger until it was full a few weeks ago. I've only ridden the bike half a dozen times this year. The problem I'm having has happened to me twice now within the past few weeks, and it happened after the bike sat for 4 or 5 days. When I turn the igition into the on position I can see my trip odometer and it is where it last was and the clock is set correct. When I start the bike it seems the electricity is lost to the dash and my clock and trip odometer reset. I assume my stations all reset too. Did a voltage test. Bike off - 12.6 Ignition on - still roughly 12.6 While starting - drops to 9.7 With throttle - 13.8 So it appears to me that maybe I have a dead cell. I'm just not positive if that voltage drop is too much while starting the bike. My connections at the battery seem good. Is there something else I should check or should I just go get a new battery?
  24. Just out of curiosity, How often do you need to air up your shocks. Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Never. Mine seem to leak down in about 2 weeks or less, I was wondering if leaking is normal or should I have it checked. Bike is still under warranty.
  25. We have finally decided to head to the Northeast states this summer. We have already hit the western states and most of the Southeast states. We need to pick up the states North of D.C.. We are doing a benefit bike ride in July in Indianapolis, and decided that since we are going to be that far east (from Omaha), we might as well continue on from there. We are going to have to get Pass Cards so we can swing by Niagra Falls. Is there much reason to ride around there on the Canada side or is it better to take the U.S. Side to Maine? We figured to ride to Maine then take the eastern seaboard down to D.C., then head west towards home. I know that I want to stop somewhere to see an old sailing ship, one I can go onto and explore. I have always been fascinated by them. My wife thinks we can do this trip in 2 weeks easily. I just can't see it. Again, we are leaving Omaha, NE stopping in Indianapolis for a day then east to Maine, down to D.C. The westward to home. I say 3 weeks would be tight. What do you think?
