  1. I had a lengthy chat with our good friend Eck on Monday evening. He has not been on the Forum recently because he and Konnie are still in the process of moving and getting things like the phone and cable hooked up. Everything seems to be going well with the job and their new town. I just thought I would let everyone know he is doing well, is glad to be back at work, and that we should be able to welcome him back any day now... TERRY
  2. Well the venture that i have on my profile was mine then it wasnt then it was and well finally my friend and I made the deal today and I finally have title in hand... so it is mine all mine... Starting tomorrow I am gonna get it ready for the road. I am needing some tires but I have to be honest I need some inexpesnvie ones. I am looking at dunlop d404 42 bucks for the back, brand new, and about 60 bucks for the front one.. is that a good sub 100 dollar tire or does anyone else have any ideals? I did get my mirrors in the trade and I cant wait to ride this thing. I rode the 700 nighthawk home today from terre haute to evansville, in and it is a nice little around town bike but honestly I feel cramped on it. I am not a real big guy but I do like to stretch.. Now I guess I gotta get a subscription on here so I can keep talking and getting good feedback from the really awesome forum...:smile5:
  3. I have searched on here and could not find information on the bulb type and location for the overdrive light. Mine has gone out and I assume I must split the fairing but don't want to split it and then run all over town looking for a bulb. Can anyone tell me what bulb type is used for the dash lights. Thanks, Jim
  4. Had the most amazing thunder and hail storm here in Perth, Western Australia. 203million in damage to cars and homes. Hail stones as big as golf balls on the north side of town, where the storm hit worst. Some of the damage to cars was unbelievable!! We had no power for a few days, and my daughters' was out for longer.:doh:Part of our national park in town slid down into apartments at the base! They say it was the worst for over 50 years.....hope that we don't get any more.
  5. I think this might be fun .... not sure if it has been done before. Imagine one of your fellow Venturerider buddies is coming to visit for a day, and you are going to take him/her out for a ride. The rules are: near YOUR house total ride no more than 5 hours show them the area, and your favourite roads If we piece them all together, we'll have riding nirvana! Mine is: Out of Dunnville heading towards Lowbanks for the shore ride along to Port Colborne. Show them the optical illusion on the beach. Take Hwy 3 to Fort Erie and now north along Niagara Parkway, passed Millionaires Row. Passed Niagara Falls, getting damp at Tablerock and checking out all the tourists. Just as we get to the town limits of Niagara-on-the-Lake turn left on Rd81 so we can go drop into Chocolate Effects (yum). Take the route passed Niagara College and then through the tunnel under the Welland Canal. Now onto Decew Rd, through Effingham area and then onto Twenty Mile Rd (RR 69). After a short trip down RR 4 its back home in time for supper.

    Emergency Tire Repair

Howdy Any good suggestions to pack a tire repair kit to get one to the next town. E.g. plugs, aerosol cans with tire fix. Thanks Max
  7. Does anyone know of a Website that shows specifically that Parking on a 45 degree angle or with rear tire touching curb is the "proper" way to park? A local Township by me just started ticketing motorcycles that do not park parallel with the parking lines AND ticket bikes that share a parking spot. They claim the Metered Parking is to prevent people from parking all day and to give other people a chance to get into the town yet they ticket Bikes that share parking spots ( greedy town that wants the revenue). They just put in Meters in this Township and they are really busting chops. I'd love to send them a link that shows and explains the reasoning behind parking bikes as most of us do.
  8. Well I got in from our little town today and while I was there some film makers were in the town square..To my surprise they are remaking the film "True Grit" here and around Blanco,Texas. I guess one of the resons may be the connection with actress Shelly DuVall who lives here in Blanco..I guess thats whay they picked it?? Anyway I am going to find it hard to think that a remake will be better than the original...There just aint no other than John Wayne! http://www.blancocountynews.com/ Added this link for just a small bit of Info I found..Not much about it but states the Actors..Scroll down to "Hollywood comes to Blanco"
  9. Inviting all WNY and Central NY members to meet with us at the D&R Depot for lunch TODAY at about 12:15..........looks like cages will be the perfered ride due to weather.....D&R Depot is on rt.19 in the town of LeRoy between Batavia and Rochester....It is 1/10 of a mile north of rt.5.....if you take yhe NYS thruway...get off at the LeRoy exit (Rt19) and head south ..... THE D&R Depot is on the right hand side when entering the town of LEROY....when you cross the RR tracks , you are there.....restaurant is on the right...If you take RT.5 , then turn north on RT.19 in the center of town... the restaurant is only one block up on the left...GREAT PLACE WITH GREAT FOOD....Hope you can make it..........(THATS SUNDAY NOV 1ST).....
  10. When a new California rider fills out the information on his... or her... info page it would great if they posted their home town. California is so long it's the equivalent of the distence between Jacksonville FL to NY City. Almost the entire eastern seaboard. Can you imagine what it would be like to put together a Meet'n'Eat if everyone on the east coast were lumped together into one catagory?? So if you're from Califirnia, how about adding your home town to your page. This goes for the old Ca members too.... Thanks.
  11. has anyone here ever had any dealings with an "xs 850" Yamaha?are they worth restoring, just for around town riding? just jt

    Hey BongoBob

Hey there, my twin brother from a different mother - I was in your town today and I believe you and your merry bunch of Venture-riding gang went right by us. It was around noon and we (10 bikes) were filling up at the KwikFill in Arcade. I yelled out your name, but obviously those loud pipes on the new 2nd gen drowned out my voice . We were just on our way back from a nice 4 days of riding in Pennsylvania and had cut across along 417, 19 and 243 into your lovely town. It just started to sprinkle, so we scooted on up to Holland and had a picnic lunch at the Community Centre/Legion field there. Cheers, Lou
  13. yesterday i was leaving my little rural town headed for the bigger city 32 miles down the road. i was sitting at the last red light in town with a PTCruiser next to me - the light turned green. i was no more thinking about racing than the man in the moon. reaching nornal end of first gear, i pulled in the clutch when this PTCruiser comes roaring up ( not really roaring, but doing its best) with that "I am gonna take you on" attitude. i know the driver can't see the smile on face, but it is there as i think "WTF is this?" thank goodness for the gradually getting faster speed limits heading out of town. as i nailed the throttle - hit 2nd gear on up, i saw the PTC get smaller in my mirror till it disappeared. all this in a matter of about, oh, 5 seconds. What is the deal with some drivers? anyone have a similar experience? Dale in Louisiana
  14. I've been asked several times now to provide the lyrics to the song so here goes: The Wanderer Lyrics (with liberties): Oh well I’m the type of guy who will never settle down Where pretty girls are well, you know that I’m around I kiss ’em and I love’em ’cause to me they’re all the same I hug ’em and I squeeze ’em they don’t even know my name They call me the wanderer yeah the wanderer I roam around around around... Oh well there’s Harley on my left and there’s Wing on my right But Star is the girl that I’ll be with tonight And when they ask me which one I love the best I tear open my shirt I got Venture on my chest ’cause I’m the wanderer yeah the wanderer I roam around around around... Oh well I roam from town to town I go through life without a care ’cause I'm happy as a clown With my two wheels a turnin' and I’m going nowhere I’m the type of guy that likes to roam around I’m never in one place I roam from town to town And when I find myself a-fallin’ for some girl I jump on that bike of mine and ride around the world Yeah I’m the wanderer yeah the wanderer I roam around around around... Oh yeah I’m the type of guy that likes to roam around I’m never in one place I roam from town to town And when I find myself a-fallin’ for some girl I jump on that bike of mine and ride around the world Yeah ’cause I’m a wanderer yeah a wanderer I roam around around around... ’cause I’m a wanderer yeah a wanderer I roam around around around...
  15. I was just returning to town, about 10 miles to go, and had been running the Interstates on a ride, for less than 2 hours, running at 70 MPH. All of a sudden my speed cut back to 60 and then less and increasing the throttle made no difference. I took the next exit, throttled back, went through town and back home with no further problem, but not going over 35 MPH now. This was earlier this morning and the temperature was actually rather cool. Recalling an experience with one of the pickups in the past, a similar problem proved to be a semi plugged filer. Anyone agree, or is there another possibility? Owen.
  16. I've had my midnite Venture since 04. Lived in small town Ontario, and have usually been the only black Venture, or Venture, period. We've since moved to Amherstburg, ON, Canada, and it's another fairly small town, under 20,000 folks, most kind...the rest like me. Well, there are now 3 midnite Ventures, right in town, including my own. Wow, growing by leaps and bounds!!! One hangs out the next street over, and the other is owned by a young fella that works in the meat dept. and the local Sobey's. Yahoo.......more folks that I can discuss bikes with!! Life is good! I'll make sure that they know about the great people on this site, and how to get here to enjoy everyone here. randy:Venture:
  17. A friend of mine that some of y'all know, Chris, who rides a Road Glide, called the other day and said "I ran into a friend of yours." Chris drives a Life Flight Helicopter out of Hugo Oklahoma; he works 15 days on and 15 days off. He commutes from Atlanta. He was on his way to work Saturday (a 12 hour trip) and called to say that he stopped in a little town in western Arkansas for a bite at a KFC. The grilled chicken hasn't made it that far west, by the way. This town was so small that he said the WalMart should have a historic plaque proclaiming it the smallest WalMart in the world. As he pulled in and parked for some yard bird, 2 bikes pulled in. One was a Harley and the other was a Kawasaki Voyager. He said he parked and walked in as the bikes went around and stopped on the other side. He walked thru' and out the other side and said to the Kawi rider "You sure are an ugly old fart!". He said Lowell looked at him like "I know you but can't call your name", that was ok 'cause Chris couldn't remember LA's name either. They spent about a 1/2 hour having lunch and talkin' (read: telling lies! ). It sure is a small world when two friends can meet by accident at a Colonel Buckets hundreds of miles from their respective homes!!! The Ambassador is on the road again!
  18. Tonight I broke one of the forward mounting bolts on my saddlebag trim rails...don't ask how!? It's the one that mounts into the crash bar by the passenger footrest. It's approx 2" long with a chromed hex head on it. Not sure the threading. I found they come included with the rails when ordering but can't find anything that tells me what that screw itself would be. Anyone know where I could get a part # and/or order a replacement? I'll try looking locally, but the small town hardware store more than likely won't have these so I'll end up paying more for shipping than for the bolt...but hey, gotta have one in the hole that's for sure! That is if I can find one! Thanks for the help...JR
  19. Greetings fellow members. Of all the places in the world my company sent me to Greenland. Ain´t I lucky? We have projects in USA, Panama, Jamaica, Norway, Denmark and Iceland and I got the lucky draw - GREENLAND of all places. Haven´t yet figured out what I did wrong! We are building a water power plant for the town of Sisimiut on the West coast of Greenland for 6.000 inhabitants. The project side is in an isolated fjord 45 miles from the town of Sisimiut and the only way to get to the project side is on snowscooters at this time of year since the fjords are frosen one meter solid. We are having an icebraker brake the ice on Sunday and hopefully we will be lucky enough to be able to sail to the site after next week. I am taking care of business in the town - that is getting all supplies over to the site, organising transport, hiring subcontractors and so forth. The town is not very clean to say the least and the roads all together not much more than around 10 miles if you count every street and alley. Boy do I feel trapped in and lonly. No motorcycles over 50 cubic inches allowed in Greenland. They did allow them before but the natives drove them like snowscooters and were constantly killing themselves and pedestrians so they banned them. Just could not imagine myself settling down in a place like that. Will be staying here till the 28th. of May and then heading home to meet my family for a couple of days and then VOLLA - "USA Freebirds Maintenance Day" here I come!!!! That is actually keeping me from loosing my mental health. Can´t wait to meet you all. Weather today - Minus 12C°. Brrrrr,,, cold,,,,,,,, Attached a couple of pictures just for fun. One of my house, another one of the village and the last but not least of my housekeeper. A lovely lady named Agatha that takes really good care of me. Cooks all my meals, does the shopping, washes my clothes and is just like a mother to me. Always smiling and in a good mood. Would be completely lost without her. Reminds me - Big Tom - will you do my laundry when I come over to your place in June??????????????????????????????
  20. Times must be gettin tough. The local small town bank got robbed this afternoon. Don't have all the specifics, other than they caught the guys. They made it about 60 miles away. As far as I know nobody got hurt. They never think that a small town bank will be tough, but they never realize that the locals know everybody in town, and can spot something out of place right away. Police got a great description and didnt take long to get them.
  21. I thought this was kind of interesting for indoor storage. A guy in my local town has one for his HD. 22. To Everyone, Just want to put the word out that Hollister Rally has been cancelled by the Hollister city council due to high cost for law enforcement ( $300,000.00) , which really isn't needed Sturgis doesn't even pay half that . A little history about Hollister Ca. , In 1947 a bunch of bikers ( 3 to 4 dozen ) were partying and racing there bikes in downtown Hollister . The news media of course made it sound and look worst then it was and Hollywood was inspired to make a movie about it ( The Wild Bunch ). In 1996 a few citizens decide to organize a Motorcycle Rally on 4th of July weekend , well by 2005 the Hollister Independence Rally had attendance of 120,000 bikes attend for the 3 day weekend. The Hollister Independence Rally became the largest Motorcycle rally in the West Coast . The town of Hollster is a good town and a biker town but it has several problems the city council and local law enforcement they don't like bikers or bike rallies . So in closing the town of Hollister has lost a great rally ,but bikers will still come on 4th of July because of the history and the spirit . If any of you have been to the Hollister Independence Rally you kow what I mean . Take Care, Silverbac
  23. Well I've owned my 07 for almost two months now and I've done about 1500 miles in and around Vermont and down to Cape Cod twice. Everyone is right, it is a sweet ride. I've still not gotten accustomed to the noises that it makes. Harleys are a lot differant. But anyway, my wife and I did a 200 miler on Sunday and we finally saw another Venture (two riding next to each other) We were in the town of Manchester in bumper to bumper traffic, damn tourists! But anyway they saw me and I yelled hey there's a Venture and got a big smile from both of the quys. I know kinda hookie but it was pretty cool to see another one. If any of you riders are in The Vermont area on Columbus Day Weekend come down to the Apple Pie Festival. Its a day long event in the town of Dummerston and usually they see at least 500 to 600 hundred bikes stop for Pie!!! Great area to ride in Joshua
  24. I just knew Don was a zillionaire....here's the proof, He OWNS a town in Ohio! And to think he was trying to pass himself off otherwise
