  1. I am so p!$$ed off. I have a 07 RSV. At 11,000 km's (6800 miles) I had to get the rear shock changed because it started to leak. Still under warranty and at 34,000km (21,000 miles) it is shot again. Dealer contacted Yamaha for a replacement and they were told no way, not going to happen. Yamaha Canada told dealer that it is my fault that there is no way I should need another shock and if it is leaking, it is something I am doing. Dealer said Yamaha told him maybe I run tires underinflated. Well I don't, I always check my air pressure and besides, even if that were true, I don't think that would ruin a shock. So in other words, what Yamaha is saying is, it is impossible that they replaced the first shock with a possible defective one. Now, I know you only have my word on this..... I am 190lbs and rarely, my wife will ride on the back. She is 110lbs. I do not travel on rough roads and don't abuse my bike. The shock is over $600.00 plus labor to install it. How can a company offer a 5 year warranty if they can so easily get out of it? I am calling Yamaha Canada customer service tomorrow. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to say, what to do about this, where I can turn to for help. There is no way I am going to bite the bullet for this. You can't tell me that they can say with 100% certainty that the replacement shock they put in was 100% perfect. HELP, please with your suggestions, comments. Help me arm myself for the attack on Yamaha Canada tomorrow. Thank you. Greg
  2. I am rebuilding a '92 Venture that needs a bit of work and one of the things I need is new set of dust seals (rubber boots) that sit on the top of the lower front fork tube. I went to the dealer and asked him to order me a set. I almost hit the floor when he told me the item was just over $100. The near heart attack came when he told me that was for just one. The part number is 3JJ-23191-00-00. The old ones on the bike are a small rubber boot that is about 2 inches tall with no clamps or fittings of any kind . However, the microfiche shows a large boot that resembles more the gaiters that were on the early British bikes. This didn't seem to make sense so I checked out the Yamaha web site and found that for 1986-89 there is a different picture and what appears to be the correct dust seal with part number 26H-23144-00-00 at $15.76 a piece. Now I am wondering if the information on the Yamaha site is correct. Did the 90-93 Ventures have a different boot? I do want to get the right part as the local dealer is unforgiving once the part is ordered. Thank you!
  3. The ex has managed to lose another great paying job again and her boyfriend had to take her to court to get her out! So she told me and the kids she was renting a house just down from their school. I meet to get my daughter and my son stays with her for his football practice. The next day she loads up and moves to TN and I don't know till last Sunday! She told me I can't do a thing about it she's the mom and the court told her she can do what ever she want and I have to deal with it! Wrong! My lawyer got me full custody till Oct, now I just have to get her to bring my son up by Friday if not then the courts and police will take care of it. She has to be the most educated person with no common sence out there!
  4. I have had physical problems for some time now and I was recently diagnosed by a competent psychologist who said that my trouble was that my mother had rocked me too much when I was a child. I told him that I had always believed that too be part of the problem, because some of them were great big rocks.
  5. Just got an early Fathers Day gift from the wife - a card with a picture of highway lights for my '99 RSV. But where she tried to order them from told her they would be back-ordered for quite some time, so I got a nice IOU from her instead of the lights. She cancelled the order and I told her I would shop around for the best deal and most readily available kit. Any suggestions? I'm already scanning eBay. Thanks!
  6. Last year I replaced all the windows in my house with that expensive double-pane energy efficient kind, and today, I got a call from the contractor who installed them. He was complaining that the work had been completed a whole year ago and I still hadn't paid for them. ..........just because I'm blonde doesn't mean that I am automatically stupid. So, I told him just what his fast talking sales guy had told me last year, that in ONE YEAR these windows would pay for themselves! Helllooooo? It's been a year! I told him. There was only silence at the other end of the line, so I finally just hung up. He never called back. I bet he felt like an idiot.
  7. Just got word from my siblings in Maine. My Mom's oncologist said her fight with stage 4 lung cancer may be coming to an end in the next few months. The cancer has spread to her liver and she is losing weight rapidly. The doctor told my Dad it's time to contact Hospice and make some final plans. Last week we were able to celebrate my parents 55th anniversary with all of her family. Close to 60 family members, including all 6 kids, spouses, grand children, and great grand children were able to attend. Mom told the doctor that this was all she was waiting for. My brothers, sisters, and myself only wish to pass along one thing: If you smoke, please, please stop before it's too late.
  8. Hello All, I wanted to put some tunes on my bike and did not want to spend $450 for some 4' bar speaker set up. so after great deliberation I came up with this. Amp is dwg with renote and speakers are Patriot which i bought at vidsonix. They are on Ebay and also at the web site. I have got say this thing CRANKS!!!!. All told I got about $150.00 in it and am very happy and easy install. Pm me if you got any questions. Also here is a link to the youtube video I posted. Thought this may help someone searching for a good system and not have to cash a savings bond. [ame= ] [/ame]
  9. I received a phone call the other day from a young lady. She was given my phone number by a mutual friend, who referred her to me because I own a Venture. She and her boyfriend just bought a 1988 Venture Royale about 3 weeks ago and while out riding it the clutch went out. She wanted to know if there was anything I could do to help them get it working again. Today I went over to their house and was shocked to find a showroom condition 1988 Royale. It was absolutely beautiful. It only had 9700 miles on it when they bought it, not a scratch on it, and it had all the chrome you could put on it. After drooling over it for about 20 minutes we finally got down to looking at the clutch, and it looked like it still had the original fluid in it, so I proceeded to flush out the old fluid with new and bleed it and had it back working in about 30 minutes. He said it was even smoother than before. I finally asked him how much he paid for it and was shocked when he told me $2500.00. I nearly fell over. It had brand new E3's on it and ran pretty good but I suggested he run some Seafoam through it and it would be much better. They wanted to pay me for doing it, but I told them I was just paying it forward for all the help I have had from certain members here who have helped me out and also told them about VR, so we should see them on here very soon and they will likely be coming to Vogel. I told him he would meet some great people there and could also get his carbs synced while there. His name is Jerry and he is a Federal Prison Correctional Officer, so he will fit in here nicely. Its also nice to have another Venture owner close by to ride with. So please make him welcome when he comes on board.
  10. I programed the Gps from House to Carls place in Brantford Brought me there ,So yesterday I tell it to go home So you'd figure the Gps will tell you to go the way you came from......BUT... It didnt..Instead of turning left at Colborne? it told me to turn right and go to hwy 24N
  11. On May the 2nd I woke up not feeling too well. My left hand was swollen and my arm was tingly numb from fingertips to shoulder. The area around my mouth was tingling. Checked my blood pressure several times and it was continually going up. So off to the Dr. Office I go. He loads me into a meat wagon and sends me to UT hospital where the tests begin. the result was that I had a TIA or mini- stroke. When I was able to go tell the Boss at work they told me I would have to be off until the Dr. Said it would be safe for me to go back to work. BUT, the Medical Dept. Of Norfolk Southern said that I would have to be off for a minimum of 6 months and not have any more TIA's to be able to go back to work. My question is....What do I do with all this time on my hands? Should I still try to make MD?
  12. My future son-in-law has been wanting to learn to ride, always asking me to teach him. I continually told him to take the MSF beginner class, that I wouldn't teach him on my bikes. Well.... after he got off work last night one of his co-workers said he could ride his 1100 Honda in the parking lot, Let's just say it didn't go as planned. 2 laps around the lot... over the parking block... side swiped the building before hitting the cement filled steel pole with his knee which caused him and the bike on top of him to go skidding 15 feet across the pavement He now has multiple patches of road rash, a knee the size of a grapefruit and a complete understanding of why I told him to take the MSF and wear protective gear. Here's a few pictures for your viewing enjoyment.
  13. If this is true, I was told by a Calif sidecar person that this is the last year for the Venture. I was asking about a trike kit for my 2007 Venture.
  14. Thank goodness their injuries at this point do not appear to be life threatening. Details are sparse, but Buck and Nikki flipped their GW trike, yesterday. From what the daughter told me she was driving and went into a curve, somewhere around Hattiesburg, MS, too fast. The trike got up on two wheels and I guess it was "downhill" from there! Both have multiple broken ribs, bumps and bruises. He is not as serious as she, but both are in intensive care at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. They both told the daughter they would be back on the bike, although, because of some of the road rash, Nikki told the daughter, "never again without a full face helmet!" They were both wearing 3/4. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers!!!
  15. In the process of installing my high output stator my son-in-law pointed out that the shift linkage seal was seeping. Has anyone ever replaced one of these on the RSV and if so how hard is to replace? My understanding from looking at the service manual is that you have to remove the middle gear cover (again) in order to get to the shift linkage seal. Is this correct? I am not sure if I want the local dealer to do this work or not. He told me one hour. I have this gut feeling he wasn't referring to an RSV but rather to a bike that is more exposed. All comments and or suggestions appreciated. Thank you in advance. Chris
  16. I went to the doctor today during my lunch break. He told me I have a condition that is associated to many folks my age. It's called ... C.R.S. Can't Remember $hit
  17. Bubba walked into a doctor's office and the receptionist asked him what he had. Bubba said: 'Shingles.' So she wrote down his name, address, medical insurance number and told him to have a seat. Fifteen minutes later a nurse's aide came out and asked Bubba what he had... Bubba said, 'Shingles.' So she wrote down his height, weight, a complete medical history and told Bubba to wait in the examining room. A half hour later a nurse came in and asked Bubba what he had. Bubba said, 'Shingles..' So the nurse gave Bubba a blood test, a blood pressure test, an electrocardiogram, and told Bubba to take off all his clothes and wait for the doctor. An hour later the doctor came in and found Bubba sitting patiently in the nude and asked Bubba what he had. Bubba said, 'Shingles.' The doctor asked, 'Where?' Bubba said, 'Outside on the truck. Where do you want me to unload 'em??'
  18. An electrical fire burned a farmer’s barn down. The next day, the farmer’s wife went to the insurance agent to file a claim. She told the agent the barn was insured for $50,000 and she wanted the money. The agent told her that is not how insurance works. An insurance adjuster will come out and determine what the barn was worth. Then we will provide you a new barn equal to that value. The woman thought for awhile and said: “If that’s how it works, I want to cancel my husbands life insurance.”
  19. FROM A 2ND GRADE LITLE BOY: Our teacher asked us what our favorite animal was, and I said, "Fried chicken." She said I wasn't funny, but she couldn't have been right, because everyone else in the class laughed. My parents told me to always be truthful and honest, and I am. Fried chicken is my favorite animal. I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member of PETA. He said they love animals very much. I do, too. Especially chicken, pork and beef. Anyway, my teacher sent me to the principal's office. I told him what happened, and he laughed, too. Then he told me not to do it again. The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favorite live animal was. I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, just like she'd asked the other children. So I told her it was because you could make them into fried chicken. She sent me back to the principal's office again. He laughed, and told me not to do it again. I don't understand. My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn't like it when I am. Today, my teacher asked us to tell her what famous person we admire most. I told her, "Colonel Sanders." Guess where I am now...
  20. I know some of this may be repetitive and I apologize. I talked to a gas hauler today during an inspection and asked if he knew which service stations gets the ethanol and which ones don't. He told me that when a driver loads the fuel he has to enter if he wants the ethanol blend or not. Some stations want it and some don't. From what he told me (take it with a grain of salt) the stations get a tax break on the ethanol they buy versus pure gas. He also mentioned to what Freebird had stated before on another post about how it will prematurely eat up rubber fuel lines especially on motorcycles. They have to preplace rubber seals in their trailers pretty regularly due to it. I noticed that when my bike was in the shop week before last for the valve adjustment, they had replaced the fuel line to the filter (now I know why). But, basically the fuel drivers know who is selling it and who isn't. I'm not sure how accurate pure-gas.org is ($ changes people's minds). I'd rather know from the guy that just loaded it. Hope this helps some of you guys out and maybe its been addressed before...
  21. I was so depressed last night thinking about the economy, wars, jobs, my savings, Social Security, retirement funds, and our bleak future, that I called the Suicide Lifeline and was connected to a call center in Pakistan . When I told them I was suicidal, they got all excited, and asked if I could drive a truck.
  22. Well, my first DS tire finally wore down and I'm continuing to ride the DarkSide. 19000 miles. Friday when I took my tire to get mounted the guy at the shop told me it was illegal to mount CTs on motorcycles. I asked to see the law. He shut up. First they took the old tire off, got the new one on the rim. He didnt clean the gunk off and used hardly any lube. I specifically told him do NOT go about 80psi and to inflate slowly. He proceeded to tell me he was the mechanic. Well he inflated it to 60 and let the air out, then staddled the tire bouncing it as another mechanic inflated it to somewhere between 80-100 psi and BOOM, the tire blew. We were all in the shop and I checked to make sure they were ok. Fortunately they were. The guy started cussing at me like I made it blow. I took my rim and went out bought another DS tire and took it to another shop. He cleaned the rim, lubed it up real good and inflated to 60psi 3 times and then to 65psi and set it in front of a heater and it seated with no problem. So after all said and done my 2nd DS tire ended up costing just as much as a MC tire. Tire #1 $62.00 Tire #2 $83.00 Shop#1 $50.00 (Didn't feel like arguing considering my bike was on the rack) Shop#2 $25.00 (mounting the tire on the rim) Total $220.00
  23. OK...it all started sometime on Friday afternoon. I got home from seeing some customers to find that my Internet was down. My son said that it had been down since around noon. Now I've had this DSL for a couple of years and it has been very stable, I don't think it has EVER been down and if so, for just a few minutes. So, I called Frontier to report the problem. Was almost through all the voice menus and crap when suddenly, it started working again. So I hung up and figured it was a glitch that they had already found. About 20 minutes later, it was off again. I waited for about an hour and called again. This time I finally got through to a tech and he did some checking on my line and etc. He then said that when he entered by account number, he got a pop-up telling him that Frontier was doing service upgrades to the system in my area and that is why it was down. I said OK...well...it would have been nice to receive some advanced notice but anyway, what is the ETA on having it up again. He said..."well...according to my screen...it should be back up by mid April". Now at this point, I was fairly sure that this guy had swam too long in the shallow end of the gene pool so I specifically asked him..."are you telling me that I'm not going to have any Internet service until April and that nobody would feel that it was necessary to let me know this". He said..."yes sir, that is correct". At that point, I nicely asked to speak to his supervisor. A few more minutes of waiting and his supervisor was on the line. She was a very nice lady and asked me what the problem was. I told her what had been said so far and she laughed and said..."I don't blame you for asking to speak to somebody else". She said that yes, there were service upgrades taking place and over the next couple of months there may be brief periods of slowness or very short down times but I would NOT be without Internet for any significant amounts of time. She did more tests and determined that there was indeed a problem with my line somewhere. She submitted a ticket and promised me that somebody would be out yesterday. Now according to my son, the service came back on later Friday evening and it was working fine when I got up on Saturday morning. Around 8:30 a.m. though, a Frontier service tech showed up. I told him that it was working fine right now but he said he would check it anyway. He told me that my service would be off for a few minutes while he checked the lines. He did some tests and told me that there was a problem somewhere with my line and he was going to put a toner on my line and go down the road to find the problem. He showed back up around 2:00 yesterday and said that he had determined that the line was bad down the road and was submitting a ticket to get the cable crew out here. I asked how long that would take and he had no idea but hopefully within a few days. WHAT? I said you know, my service was working fine when you showed up but hasn't worked since then and is still down. So...he said that he would see what he could do, maybe find another pair of wires to use. About an hour later he showed up again and said that all was working fine now. Maybe, but I still had no service. Just a blinking light on the modem showing it trying to connect. He said that didn't make sense because I had full signal at the box on my house. He checked inside the house at the jack where my modem was plugged in and it showed full signal also. He said he was going to make some calls and try to find out what it could be and he left again. He never showed up again and I never heard back from anybody but about an hour after he left, it started working again. So......I have no idea what was wrong. I don't know if there really was a bad cable. I don't know why it was working even when it was showing full signal. I don't know much of anything except that some of these people don't seem to know much about the jobs they are supposed to be doing.
  24. hi all monday i drove the trike up to troup, texas, to have them look it over. wow what a nice place. one of their tech named david meet me and wanted to know how they could help. i explaned that i had just bought this '99 rsv trike with their kit installed. and could they go over the trike and tell me anything about it. he took it into the shop and put it on a lift. came out a little later and said the axel ring & pinon seal was leaking. also said that they did not instrall the kit on the rsv there, that one of their dealers did it. also told me that it was an early kit as 1998 or 1999. that it did not have the air bags installed. as they started doing this in 2000. also stated that they stamp a serial # on each rear end reguard less of which kit it goes to. that my # was a low one. well after a couple of hours david came out and told me he was done. he had fixed the rear end seal, adjusted the suspension / frame. fixed a tail light, some side molding. all this at work and time at NO CHARGE. yep that's right NO CHARGE, wow was i surprised. as we were shaken hands he told me we get you next time. if your ever in the area go by their plant for a tour of the place and say hi. reguards don c.
