  1. The newest occupant in my garage is an 86 lst Edition. She is really clean and when I rode it before making payment to the PO, she ran great without a miss whatsoever. Trailered it home and cleaned it up a bit and now she is poping like crazy. He said he had it only three weeks and the party he got it from supposedly had it in storage for 13 years. Had to go through it somewhat but I donot believe removing the carbs for a thorough cleaning was part of the de-moth balling. I am wondering if that isn't the problem. I havent had it long enough to ever register here in Texas. So as soon as I have it registered, I will fill the tank with some new fuel, add a can of Sea Foam and take her out for some fresh air. Wish me luck. Since everyone likes pics..... Masterguns
  2. I saw that the Houston RLAP instructors will be at the Yamaha Stadium on May 2 and 3. https://www.ridelikeaprohouston.com/sched.htm
  3. I want to thank all those who responded to my question about a high mileage Venture 2000 MM I was considering. The bike has over 100,000 miles but has been kept in great shape by its original owner. Many of you repsonded with excellent suggestions as to what to look for before purchasing the bike. The owner has notified me today that someone else will be buying the bike. However, this has been a great experience for me. Thom in Texas told me about this site last weekend and since I enrolled, I feel I have made many new friends. I thank each of you in making me feel welcome. I still would like to get a 2000 Venture MM and hopefully one day ride with a member of this great group. If you run across such a bike, please let me know. Thanks again. Mike Corpus Christi, Texas
  4. Well we did our February ride dedicated to our great northern friends. This will now be an annual event to help out those who are snowbound and need to know that YES,we are riding on your behalf! It is the LEAST I can do for our friends. We had a FANTASTIC ride and to my surprise the first night I was on the street corner in Marathon,Texas looked up and here comes Ponch and Lil Bit riding in from Tomball,Texas 601 miles...He will update on his wild experience so I will not get into that any farther but it was a shocker to see that White RSV coming into town!Anyway our weather was great except one day we had a little West Texas sand storm but in tradition we put cloths over our faces and braved the elements. Here are a few pictures, enjoy and trust me,we raised a few margaritas for all of our VentureRider friends and shed quite a few tears for you guys....Tom Pics as follows Kerrville Texas and theier Texas Swimming pool On Top of a Sister Pecos River (4 Pics) Roy Beans cafe Texas Toilet Paper Lil Bit,Ponch and Me Santa Elena Canyon,Big Bend (2 pics) Top of river rd,Hwy 170 out of Bib Bend (5 Pics OH Yes, And for our Stratoliner/Roadliner friends and Owners a picture of my friends Roadliner with a Dragonfly fairing Installed on it..I think it looks great!
  5. I am looking for a second 1st Gen and a buddy told me about this. I called the guy and he said it is in perfect shape but now I decided to wait for another one that is here in Texas. I thought I would show it t see if anyone else would be interested. Decent Price I thought Wilkie http://www.cycletrader.com/find/listing/1987-YAMAHA-VENTURE-94594570
  6. I've just been checking out the "Run For The Wall" http://www.rftw.org/index.asp?lg=1&w=pages&r=-1&pid=0 website. I was wondering if any of the Venture Riders group has considered doing this ride? Any of ya'll especially in So. Texas , East Texas , Ok., or La.? It is a long ride but a important statement can be made by participation. Just a thought.
  7. Well This Friday AM I am leaving for a 1500+ mile ride to Big Bend National park.Yes we will have COLD weather,42 in the AM and 68-70 in the daytime but I will not complain as it is to be SUNNY all 3 days with the exception of Sunday and a few clouds. If anyone in our Texas bunch happens to be out that way we will be in Marathon,Texas Friday and Saturday night at the Marathon Motel. They have a VERY nice pavillion area with a very nice outdoor fireplace,We have our Salsa and Chips and Margaritas for our evening BS sessions so if anyone wants to meet up we will see ya there..Oh yea GaryN,Ramblingman,Blueslover..I will be thinking of you guys..And yes Squid and Freebird also...There is HOPE for all of you that winter will soon be over..We have had it tough here in Texas this winter!I will post pictures Sunday night.
  8. OK VentureRiders in North Texas, the Big Texas Toy Run in Tarrant and Dallas counties is coming up Sunday, 12/21/08. We usually have between 60,000 and 80,000 bikes on this one: http://www.thebigtexastoyrun.com/printaflyer.html There are departure points in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Grapevine. Anyone want to meet me in Grapevine to form up together? Goose
  9. Nineteen vehicle pileup, one death, and numerous road closings. There are a lot of people on here who think Texas is a tropical paradise. Well, Texas is a BIG state. Down south its a bit warmer. But up here in the frozen tundra called the Texas Panhandle, welcome to reality. http://media.amarillo.com/photos/index.php?xml=210 http://www.amarillo.com/stories/120908/web_pileup.shtml http://www.amarillo.com/stories/120908/web_roadclose.shtml/B]

  11. Just received my copy of the Travelers' maps of National Scenic Byways abd All American roads. Guess what folks. Ain't none listed for Nebraska, Texas, Michigan, Pennsylvania or New Jersey.... Hell, I didn't need an official government pamphlet to tell me that....
  12. Ant of you folks out there going to do the Texas Honor Ride on the 8th of November? It is police escorted from Houston to Brooks Army Medical Center in San Antonio. The day will be spent with the wounded warriors and their families.
  13. Greetings to all- The 1st Annual Texas Venture Stampede is over and all that is left are the memories and the photos. Thanks to all who came and enjoyed the weekend. We had beautiful weather and a great place to ride. The Texas Railroad was interesting. I think it would be better suited as a children's activity. The meal Saturday night and the door prizes were great. The local Yamaha dealer ponied up a great stack of goodies. Grand prize was won by Lil'bit. She has a $100.00 gift certificate to River Road for clothing and accessories. The folks from Canada received the longest distance travelled award. The City of Athens provided them 2 keys to the city in honor of their attendance. Our final total was 26 people attending on 21 bikes. I travelled about 1800 miles from Thursday until Sunday night. We occupied 22 rooms at the Quality Inn. Along with our group, there was a Lincoln Continental Collectors Club holding a meet. What a great display of cars. Unfortunately I did not get pictures. I think some of our other members may have. My thanks to Mavrick for his help in putting the Stampede together. I had a blast working with him. And thanks to the sneaky folks who paid my tab at supper Saturday night! I am putting together a CD of all the pictures that I got from folks. Crimson Knight grabbed some short video clips to add to the collection. I will be sending these out in about a week as momentos of the weekend. I need anyone who did not get pictures to me on Saturday night to shoot me a PM. Mavrick and I will be sending certificates of appreciation to all of the places who helped out. Now, the final order of business for the 1st Annual Texas Venture Stampede- All who attended have asked 2 questions- When and where will the 2nd Annual Texas Venture Stampede be held? Give me your input now folks. I am thinking maybe Hill Country and we run the Three Sisters for fall of 2009. http://s258.photobucket.com/albums/hh269/lonestarmedic/Stampede08/ Thanks for the memories JB

  16. Or actually, North East... For those along the flight paths, you may have a chance to see some of these balloons in the Gordon Bennett Race and the Americas Challenge. www.balloonfiesta.com Click on Gas Balloons and click on the tracking maps. Two of the balloons are over the Texas Panhandle near me, in what we lovingly call 'Fly over country'. (no pun intended!) Cross posted on several websites....good luck!
  17. In todays economy if you want a job, loan, insurance, etc. It all may depend on your credit worthiness. Do you know your score? Here is an interesting comparison by state. Looks like Texas needs to sell those second gens and pay down some debt. Maybe get a first gen instead. http://www.creditreport.com/info/credit-scores/average-credit-scores.asp
  18. First off, we have moved home base to Athens, Texas. The Lake O' the Pines was nice to ride but amenities were missing. No places at ALL to eat and pretty low rooms. I think Masterguns and I both looked for Roger the Roach. We actually cancelled our rooms and went to Athens after talking to Mavrick over supper. Athens is closer to the railway. Also, the ride to the depot will include one of Ride Texas' 10 best voted roads. Not a tail of the dragon, but really nice. Sorry for the delay on this. We could not get a camping spot with a close motel. In Athens there is the State Freshwater Fishing Conservation. It has huge aquariums and displays ( can also fish and release with supplied equipment). Also a great outdoor Arboretium nearby. Lots to do and see. A bit far from Caddo Lake and the paddleboat. We could go up on Friday if a group wishes. Saturday will be the ride and the train ride. I will have the group details on this in a day or so. The ride starts in Palestine on the 18th. There is a box lunch available (checking the price). The individual price is $38.00 per person without the lunch. I am working with them for a group rate. I will post more about the trip as we see the reservations chime in. Please reply to the below listed link in the regional rally section so we can get a head count. See here for the reservation and lodging details http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=27185 THanks to all. JB
  19. A texas news show has put this poll on their website asking if motorcyclists make the Texas highways more dangerous. Everyone needs to take this poll. This is the link http://www.nbc5i.com/ The poll is about 3/4 of the way down the page.
  20. The wife and I were taking a morning breakfast run today and saw a 2nd gen Midnight on Hwy 5 in Aledo Texas today. Anyone from the site??
  21. So, I was prodded today to update the October 18th Stampede details. I am planning on riding to East Texas this coming weekend to get solid details. I realize I haven't been prolific on the upcoming meet. My job and other obligations have kept me off the road more than I might like. My plans for the labor day weekend went out the window with the lack of parts. The bike is back together and ready to run. And I used the extra time to make a new workbench and set up the Mocha Lair for tearing apart bikes. I hope to leave Friday and drop into Houston for a visit. Then on to East Texas. If anyone is up for a road trip, give me a yell. JB

    Dragonslayer in Texas

Had a great time hosting Bob the Drangonslayer here in the Texas Panhandle over the weekend, and also meeting Jack, aka Silver Bullet. I'm sure Bob will post highlights of his journey, but here are a few pics until he can post some of his own. Hes got quite a few stories to tell! He headed out of Amarillo last night around 2200, I'm not sure of the exact time, but he was going to try to make a Saddle Sore run from Amarillo to Atlanta. Hope we hear from him soon!
  23. Are there any North Texas rides being organized over the Labor Day weekend? Any info regarding this subject would be highly appreciated. I for one would just love to join if the starting point is anywhere near Dallas/Fort Worth. Or is anyone interested in quickly organizing something?
  24. Is there someone in the DFW area that is very familiar with the first gen (83)? My 83 has about 39,000 miles on it, seems to be very stock, and I am thinking that a progressive spring / seals update on the front end is about due, along with a Superbrace. But, I would like someone else that has lots of experience with this bike to ride mine to give an opinion! I can ride and meet someone within a couple of hours. Any takers?? Also, is there a group of Texas riders that meet somewhere? Where and when?! Thanks for your help! Steve
  25. I know Texas is a big state. Are any of you folks in the path of the Hurricane?
