My lovely wife says she will join me for her first bike ride that weekend! I'm excited!!

barber's motorsport park is have a vintage day swap meet and races oct 8-10. they'll have several thousand of bikes of all kinds to look at, race and swap parts at the park. i went yr before last and had a great time on sat. i was wondering if anybody else would like to come and we could meet up and have a group go. i'm posting this on several other forums and if enough people want to come, i'll see if i can get a good rate at a motel nearby and have a few places to eat at for what ever days you come. checkout their website and see if you can work it in your plans. http://www.barbervintagefestival.org/

I am planning or replacing the trans gears in my 83, Muffinman told me to get an 86 or later and its a direct swap. Does anyone have one they would be willing to part with. I can get one on Ebay, but would much rather deal with someone I can trust.

Thinking about looking for a crashed VMAX to begin a swap to my MK2. Figure having the whole bike would be better than buying pieces. Anyone done this? Were you happy? What are best year VMAX's to look for? Will stock collector just strangle this thing? -
My "84 VR has the dreaded 2nd gear issue that's slowly getting worse. It's to the point that just keeping up with traffic leaving a light will cause it to jump out. It's a sidecar rig and 2nd is really handy to get the tugboat rolling. I just lucked into a trans gearset out of a '89 VR. It's my understanding that it the same as the '84 except it has some updated parts including the thrust washer. I didn't get the driven middle gear and I realize they should be kept as a matched set. No forks or shift drum either. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4028/4511886358_c30c1708fa_b.jpg I'm debating how to proceed. Do it just put this split thrust washer on in my 84 and call it done? Do I swap in this entire gearset? If I do that do I have to swap the middle gear to keep a matched set? I'm assuming that I would have to re-shim everything them too. Doesn't the worn split washer affect middle gear backlash? If so it would seem that it's pretty forgiving. Should I swap this 2nd gear wheel and 5th gear wheel onto the 84 shaft? I assume you should swap over the the 5th gear pinion too since it meshes with the 5th gear wheel, but I've changed many automotive trans gears w/o replace the mating one without issue. Is undercutting the dogs necessary or is it just a bit of insurance? The answers to some of these questions may become self evident when I get it apart. Any other magic I need to know? I know that's a lot of questions but I'm trying to gather as much input as possible before I open her up. -
Guess only way to do it is try. Not sure I would be willing to be a guinea pig though. Some Venture folks swap out Venture gears for VMAX gears. Some folks swap out VTX1300 gears for 1800. Wonder if it would work to swap out Venture gears for say 1800 gears.

Finally got income coming in so I can come back to a home away from home for my 86 Venture Royale!!! YAY!! However, I have a question about swapping heads. Will a head from an 84 fit and work on an 86? Last fall, everything was running great. Then I had a small backfire while starting the bike and I lost HALF my power. After doing a Leakdown test and Compression test, it seems I need a valve job. HOWEVER, I have a good head that was given to me off an 84. All the measurements are within specs. I just need to know if they will swap or do i need to do the valve job on the 86 and put it back on the bike? Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. I NEED to get back on the bike. Recieved a flyer in the mail today for a Giant Motorcycle Swap Meet at Cleveland, Ohio on Sunday March 14. Has anyone ever been to this previously? Is it worth going to? Says that I could rent a space. I've been to car swap meets before but never a bike one. Should be pretty big being in Cleveland.

OK....I am getting ready to swap my two antennas out. I went out there and got ready to swap them out (should be easy right)...and now I see 3 wrench points (flat spots)... I tried very lightly to turn all 3, but I am afraid I might damage the antenna if I twist off the wrong one... So which one is it...the top smaller wrench point, the middle or the largest one being the lower one. Thanks, Wally

So, I took my clutch basket out today. I was supposed to have had the " I " basket swap but for some reason I don't trust nobody and the swap made no difference in the whine so I took it out to check. Supposedly the basket should have an " I " stamped somewhere on it...? I don't see it on mine. Do any of you have a pic of exactly what is stamped on the back??? Here's pics of mine... is it or is it not an " I " basket??? EDIT: I'll rephrase that... I don't trust the Yamaha dealer but I do trust you guyz !

I know we have it here somewhere but I can't find it. What is the right # for the TCI in my 85?? I know the one in there is the wrong one but runs pretty fair don't it Skid and Grindo?? Dano got me to thinking so I'll swap it out and see. Hope it don't run much better. Can't keep front wheel on ground now!!! I have a TDI14-17 in there now. 26H-10

Can anyone tell me if the frame from a 86 to 92 would be the same as the 83 to 85. My frame broke!

The odometer on my 83 stopped working. The dealer wants $300 for a new speedometer assembly but I am considering buying a complete 86 dash off ebay. Will the speedo assembly swap into my 83? Also, can I reset the odometer to show the milage on my bike? -
I would like to get TWO SILVER VR.Org stickers, and as the postage will be more to Australia, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in swapping the two stickers for two of my "Aussie" venture badges I had made ??( see avatar picture) Once Sweetnothing has them ready to go we could swap addy's in a PM and do the exchange :bowdown:

I recently bought a set of mufflers from an 87 XVZ 1300 and wanted to swap them onto my 83. When I tried to install I noticed the brackets on the mufflers are different but the muffler itself seems to be identical. What I'm wondering now is whether I could the change the rear peg brackets and replace them with passenger boards from an 87 to make this work or do I have to go the slice and dice route. I want to thank you all in advance, I'm still learning about the First Gens and you guys are an invaluable resource. Thank you.

Will the trunk from an 86 VR fit on my 83? I like the style of the backrest better and was wondering if it's a straight swap.

What is a direct swap in the rear gears for a 1st Gen. I think some of them we didn't have to do anything to? some of them are a little different?? 85 V-max to 85 Royale??

it has been decided that we are going to have vendors at the 2009 rally. danob11 is in charge of the vendors. by vendors we we mean outside venders and people on the site that have items they have to sell or that they make and sell. i was thinking of having a swap meet area where people could put items that are bike related. to sell or trade. whats everyone think of this idea? bill

You know how you go to swap meets and there is nothing but Harley Parts. I had a thought that it might be interesting to organize some regional swap meets where we could get together to buy, sell and trade Venture parts. Maybe they could be organized around well attended meet & eats and maybe held on a quarterly or bi-annually basis. I just throwing out a feeler to see how much if any interest there would be. My selfish motivation is that I have a lot of 1st Gen parts I'd to sell or trade. What do you think?

I've read the threads on sterios but not found an answer to my question. I don't have to tell you how bad the '85 Royale radio is (if you have one). I've decided to swap it out with a modern radio with a CD player. But, here's my question, are there any out there that will mount vertically without a lot of CD skip? I'm desperate for decent music!
