  1. Any members happen to be rideing South tomorrow thru Wa. and Oregon on I-5 ?? I'm hitting the road out of Seattle about 0700, hope to make Weed Calif. by about 1800 hrs. Well, might stop North of the Calif border. ??
  2. Recently retired and bought an 05 RSTD with around 20,000 on it. I will be leaving from South GA on July 14 for an 'epic' 34 day ride across the US back(I hope). Never having ridden in the Rockies I am looking forward to it but wonder if there are any problems to expect when riding in such high altitudes with a bike that has carbs. The last decade I rode a 91 Concours which was also had carbs but I never ventured far from the south. I would welcome any constructive advice or tips. By the way this is my first post. Thanks, warrenstar
  3. Look out for Penn dot trucks parked along the road or appearing behind you pacing you, it could be a Trooper driving the truck, it is called "Operation Yellow Jacket" and will be off and on all summer, each district has a truck cleaned up and ready to go! Watch Your Speed In PA! USE CRUISE CONTROL AND IF YOU ARE IN THAT MUCH OF A HURRY AT NO MORE THAN 2 MILES ABOVE POSTED SPEED LIMIT. THE FEW MINUTES YOU SAVE SPEEDING, ISN'T WORTH A TICKET OR A GAMBLE WITH YOUR LIFE. Starting today, Pennsylvania will launch a 30 day speeding ticket frenzy. The state estimates that 9 million dollars will be generated in speeding tickets. 1 million will go to pay state troopers' overtime. There will be 50 state troopers on duty at all times patrolling the 9 main intersections and highways. They are the following: Rte. 1 north and south PA-220 I-99 north and south I-95 north and south I-279 north and south I-276 east and west I-376 east and west I-76 east and west I-80 east and west I-79 north and south I-70 east and west PA-60 PA-66 US-22 & 322 5 mph above the limit can justify a ticket and every state trooper is supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 10 to 20 minutes. They have issued 30 brand new unmarked Dodge Charger Police cruisers and are bringing in all of their part timers on full time. If you work in western Pennsylvania, you will probably take one of these highways. It's up to you how fast you are going when they clock you. KDKA and WDVE & CBS3 confirmed all of this. So be safe and don't forget speeding tickets are on you. Driving Ticket fine increase in PA: Starting on August 15th, the price of a ticket for violation of PA Law 39:3-29 (failure to show your driver's license, registration, or insurance card at the time you are stopped) is going from $44.00 to $173.00 Please make sure your vehicles have the proper documents in them. If you jump in the car to run to the store and forget your wallet with your license in it and you are stopped.... Oh well... you just spent $173. And the fine for not having all three documents is $519!!! Make sure everyone knows about this! I am sure other states will follow so be careful everyone. Paul
  4. On an earlier thread I posted that I had bought an 84 VR off Ebay from a fellow member. Now I'm weighing options on how to get the bike from Central PA to Atl, Ga. And I was wondering if any members from that area were planning a trip south by cage and would consider picking the bike up and towing it south. Of course I would offset thier travel expenses by paying them for thier time and trouble. I would also be glad to meet them down south closer to Atlanta if they were not planning to come to or through Atlanta. Any takers?
  5. A couple of us from the Pocono area will be heading down south on Sat. 6/21 to ride the Tail Of The Dragon. We plan on riding it mid week and being tourists around NC Tenn and VA the rest of the time. No solid plans yet, but we will stay out 8 or 9 days.
  6. We're thinking about retiring again... This time to the South Texas area and would love to have some input on the area from Rockport to Brownsville... no more than an hour, from the coast... If anyone lives in this area, I'd love to ask some questions, so please drop me an email at 1bigyeti@gmail.com ... Thanks... Tom:backinmyday:
  7. We're southbound this Sat. and should be in Gulfport, MS by Sunday night - I just wanted to give an advance warning to all the members between WI and the Gulf. So if you see this rig parked at a food joint, http://www.simpsontaxidermy.com/RSVtrailer.jpg feel free to stop and buy us lunch. If you see us on the road - get out of the way! This trip south is the main reason I won't be attending the rally in Ontario this year. My daughter starts training with her battalion in late June and then leaves for Afghanistan sometime in Oct., so this will be the last chance I get to see her before she ships out for almost a year. Keep a good thought for her safe return, eh?
  8. I recently purchased a 1984 Venture Royal after my fiasco with the auction bike. Found a nice shape one that ran from a great member in south Alabama. The only problem is I need a new rear tire. I got some major sticker shock yesterday from bike shop in Slidell La. Seems that the store there wants 187.00 +tax for a new rear tire (brand to be declared) and $97.50+ tax to install the tire. I also questioned front fork seals while I was there since one is leaking. $65.00 for parts, 285.00 for labor... plus taxes. At these prices I can become a mechanic if forced to be, I have air tools and good sets of tools to work with. I have changed a bike tire but it has been years ago and would do it differently now since back then I didn't have spoons just large screwdrivers. I do not have a way of balancing the tire and would like to find a shop that wasn't planning on raping me to purchase a tire from and have installed. Does anyone have any good places here in South Mississippi or South La, or South Ala, or Northwest Fl that they would recommend??? Man I am going to have to try to do some schedule changes to make it to maintenance days somewhere.
  9. Hi all I am sorta new to the site. Just got my first RSTD and I love it. My only complaint atm is that my legs are cooking. I live in south south south Louisiana and I am wondering if anyone can point me to a thread regarding a solution for this. Thanks:225:
  10. Hi everybody... Well the new RSV has all of 900 miles on it and the wife & I are going to take it on our first "long" trip. We'll be leaving Kankakee Illinois(about 40 miles south of Chicago) Sunday morning & heading south. Plan on being in Kiln Ms. on Monday afternoon to visit a friend we have'nt seen in 18 years. Then through Biloxi & on to St. marks Fl. on Tuesday. With any luck at all on Wed. we'll be in Mt. Pleasant SC. Thursday night we'll be visiting friends in Princeton West Virginia. Friday..........Sitting in a lawn chair at a campground, fishing and drinking beer (not toooooo much though...he-he). Sat & sun will be the trip home! We are pretty excited!!!! And of course all is subject to change depending on weather & how we feel.I think we're ready. new rain gear, spf 30 chapstick, sun block, luggage(of course),made beaded seat covers out of a car seat cover from Wally-World......Any other suggestions???? Thanks to all....I'll have it on channel 29( RIGHT?) I'll fill you in on the trip after we get home!!!
  11. Been meaning to post about this since the first of last week. I saw him turn onto SH 121 just south of Trenton on my way to work. I was pulling up to teh light just as he was taing off. Anyone? (Northeast Collin County area)
  12. Well i did it. I went and put a down payment on a 2006 RSV black cherry. I have been a member here since Febuary but didnt have a bike. I had a 1st gen 83 that needed more repair than i could do but i just got rid of about 3 weeks ago and have been looking new one for about 4 months now. I really like the looks of the 2ng gens. I could'nt make up my mind on which color to get I had it down to 3 that i liked 2000 MM, 04 white or the 06 Black Cherry. I seen a Black Chery the other day (sunday5/18/08) on the interstate in Missouri it was heading north on I55 and i was going south dang near broke my neck trying to get a better look at it and thats when i made up my mind thats what i wanted. I go and pick her up some time next week in Kansas City so i you see a black chery heading east on 70 or south on 55 and you cant see the drivers face because of the smile then that will be me so just honk and wave. Hopefully i will see some of you nice people down the road one day and we can stop for some DQ ICE CREAM. lol lol:rotf:
  13. We are taking a trip to South Dakota at the end of June into July and was wondering what were some of the good roads to take for some scenic rides around Mount Rushmore? We are staying about 16 miles from Mount Rushmore and will probably be riding off and on for three days in that area. Moakster

  19. I was riding to work down Vasco road from Brentwood to Livermore. It was getting dark but I passed another 2nd gen venture going the opposite direction. It was too dark to see the color and I am pretty sure that it wasn't Rich99 because I think it had the dual spotlights with the headlight. I was wondering if it was anyone here. This was at just a little after 5:00 PM on Thursday afternoon. I was traveling south bound on Vasco road still close to Brentwood. Or maybe this was a mystery rider that has not yet had the pleasure of becoming part of our family. If that is the case, I will have to hunt him/her down.
  20. Hi All, By the time I got rolling this morning and got Sea Foam and boots the best I could do was south of Durham. Logged in 402 miles with side trips and everything. Heading for Atlanta and supper with 86er tomorrow. Bike is running good. Locked the cruise to its max and leaned back. Kinda cold and windy but fun. The Corbin seat took a bit to get used to but it is pretty good. Love the backrest!! Put 2 tanks of primium and the Sea Foam through. Idle is still a bit erratic but the off-idle twitch is gone. I saw a 1st Gen heading south earlier. It was loaded in the back of a truck with a boat in tow. Other than that, I only saw 2 Gold Wings. Here are a couple picks. JB
  21. How many of you are going to Galveston this weekend.Would like to met some of you in person .There are about 20 to 25 of us comming up from the South. See ya there. Ron Cell 361-510-1932
  22. Well, we launched the shuttle again this morning and are currently camped in Berlin OH. I guess we'll explore Amish country for a couple of days before heading further south. We're hoping to get to the Roanoke Valley and see some fall colours and do some riding in the mountains.
  23. That's another job on the moneypit done. Between the advice and freebirds writeup on forkseals in the tech library, Oh and a trip to home depot and sears, while I surely didn't get it done in an hour, I now know how to change the seals in the forks on a vr. Tomorrow is valve cover gaskets. Anybody got any suggestions? Trying to get the bike ready for a trip to south Ga the end of the month. I had been thinking about selling this thing this winter, but at this point, I think a coat of paint and a sattelite radio, and I might just keep her. Can't swing it this time, but I think next go round I might try to get in on the deal for the MAC mufflers.
  24. This doesn't have a bit to do with MC's, but I thought someone on the board just might be remorely interested. And if not that's OK too. The auctiion is located in Mt. Dora, Florida, Charlotte, North Carolina and Summerville, South Carolina. It only for one day, so things will probably go cheap. See http://www.westauction.com/index.php?a=1112&g=62
