  1. I met a "dark colored" south bound Venture on Hwy 15 south of Ackerman, MS around the Choctaw Game Refuge turn off, this afternoon (Saturday). Was it one of us?
  2. Well, ol stoneface made it here. We ooglled each others bikes, kicked the tires and headed out for breakfast where LetHimRide and his wife Georgia met us. Had a great meet and Rob headed south once more...... He should be checking in soon once he gets home. He even got to meet the "kids"!
  3. I am telling you up front that I do not know what I am doing with this Photobucket thing but we will see if it works or not. These are our photos from our trip to South Dakota. I think I still have more too. But I think this will do it for now. I do not think this is even in the right order. Too much time to fix it. 4. Strugis South Sturgis MS Aug 13-16 2009 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=2 We may have some thunderstorms in the area but I think we are gonna ride up there and check them out Sat and Sunday at least. They usually have a pretty good crowd and a lot of intertainment with some vendors and lots to eat. It is gonna be hot...heat index around 107, so I may be circling the area to stay cool. If you happen to go...Look for a couple of goons with flourscent yellow vest...that will most likely be me and my son. I will be riding the RSMV with LEDs probably with the better half on the back and the son will be riding a Midnight VSTAR custom.
  5. Yep, not kiddin' ya,,, fed up with all this sitting around, looking at the computer screen, hobbling around on one leg,,,,reading the 'newspaper' watching all the scoots going past as though there is nothing going on,,,,,napping,,,,,eating,,,,,,,... After all the bike is ready, the weather is excellant,,, and all the bad drivers have gone south and the roads should be quiet,,,,,,,and best of all Mrs. Jopie is cooking supper,,,,,, get the cage ready hon,,, we're on or way.
  6. We rode close to 300 miles today over 9 hours in the hills and valleys and twisties of South West Wisconsin. It was a cool July day, but it was a great ride. 7. Indiana riders help please. I am planning a ride out of Evansville north on Indiana 57, catch 59 at Clay City and continue north to the Carbon area. Then, head south on 59 and take 46 east to Nashville. From there take 135 to 58 to 37 south to 66, which is listed as scenic byway west back to Evansville. I'm not going to ride hard and will probably take 3-4 days to do this, taking in the must see places as we travel. If you know of any must see places or restaurants along this route I would appreciate the information. I understand you have some nice scenery, especially in Brown County and am looking forward to the trip. This could happen this month as soon as the 17th - 20th or perhaps 24th - 27th. Time line is still undecided. Thanks and if you ever get in the Sedalia area of western Ky. let me know and I'll be happy to give you some hints or lead you on a ride. Bill
  8. Northern Michigan to MD on Friday, Anybody? My Route will be M-115 to US-10 to I-75 to US-23 South to State Line... 350 miles One-Way... Maybe we can MEET somewhere? I DO NOT want to commit to any meeting place and time South of FLINT, MI. (due to traffic and time unpredictability. I hate driving under pressure).
  9. this morning while watching tv, nothing but T-storms all day. wife wants to go for a ride, (she bugs me awhile) Okay where too? lets ride up the coast line to west palm beach, we take off around 10:30 , and head north to A1A, in deerfield Beach, Fl., pick up A1A, and take a slow ride north into west palm. stop for lunch, around1:30pm, hear some storms coming in, and decide to head south again. just into Bayton Beach, we hit our first major downpour. okay, suit up, continue the ride South., 20 minutes or so, we come out the other side. okay, this is good. ride the rest of the way, down A1A, then out to I-95, to I595 west. (Wrong answer) major lighting, hail, high winds, and a big white wall of rain in front of us. over the intercom, I hear Oh damn... What I ask?, look at the trees to the right...... S**t, looks like a mini twister, branches, flying everywhere. winds start pushing the bike over, I gun it, and peeled off the highway, as the heavy rains, start slapping at the wind sheild, and made it under a bridge, but had to move as the light turned green. now riding to the right of (whatever) that was, we continued south, into a waterfall, small hail, the road flooded fast, at one point, I thought we were driving a speed boat, the way the water was coming off the front wheel. not any part of our bodies were dry. water coming up over my feet, almost no vis., we turned o the west, hoping to get on the back side of it. after a good 15 minutes, we finally came out, into a slow rain. You know me, being the smart A**, I ask her. "Did the enjoy your ride today"?............ Silence, not a peep, the rest of the way home:cool10: The best part of my ride:cool10: chaulk this up as anyother normal day in Soggy South Florida
  10. Don't know how many seen this on internet, but is the worst to best states issueing speeding tickets especially out of state, very close over limit, etc. Some admit they have to help state income and especially eliminate warnings. 11. If you see a two-tone white Venture with an American flag on the trunk rack and AZ plates heading south (the long way) from VA to FL and stopping in the vicinity of Ponte Vedra and later, Key West - that'd be me. Honk the horn and say hi. I haven't had much time for a vacation so now's my only chance. I'm breakin' out - bustin' loose; bike's prepped and ready to go at O'Dark Thirty tomorrow (in the rain I think). Gonna see a little of the tourney at Sawgrass, then catch a day or two down in KW. Be looking for other Ventures along the way. Ride Safe TTW

    March break

Son’s March break The MNR (Ministry of Natural Resources) has done it again. Here in Ontario they have close the fishing on the Sunday before the March break. 20 yrs of spending March break on Lake Temagami comes to an end. My son was upset. I am thinking of trying to go south riding for a week down around the Blue Ridge Parkway. What is the weather been like down in that area? They are calling for warm weather in the Toronto area (double digits) this weekend. Would I be able to leave the Toronto area on our bikes and make it south at this time of the year? What are you feeling? Would you try it or should I wait? I have never biked in the USA. I am a little nervous about the weather. I’m looking for some advice from people along the route. Any comments?
  13. Hey All: no riding today here in southwest ohio, it is 6:15AM and already have 3-4 inches of the white stuff and predicting 4-6in more today. Can't ride today so all you who live south and warmer climate are soooo blessed to be able to ride everyday!!! I am indeed JEALOUS!!!!! Have A GREAT DAY!! Brian D.
  14. That white stuff you guys all talk about..... SNOW ..... Last night ( Saturday ) it snowed in beautiful Victoria. It would seem that IT is going to stick around for a week or so. THAT is a long time to go without being able to take the bikes out of the garage. I kinda know now how you guys in the east and south east must feel. I never missed a whole week of riding for a long time....... I may not be able to go for a christmas ride....oh what to do now?
  15. LA = Louisianna SNOW. I am at work south of Lafayette LA and there was an inch of snow on the steps at 0500 this morining. Folks down here do not know how to act. They are closing I49 and the radio is reporting 18 wheelers in the ditch and cars spining off the road. Schools are closing... What a mess. The sun better come out pretty quick or somebody is gonna get hurt. They would totally shut down the world if they got a real snow that would stick on the roads for a while.
  16. Winter is soon upon us up here in Canada (ha, for some people it's already been here!) My greatest biking dream was to be able to ride my bike in FEB down south, say down to the Florida Keys for example but unfortunately we have too much snow and shyte roads to get out of here.. But now that I have a bike trailer, everything has changed!! woot My plan / goal this coming winter is to load the bike on the trailer, drive south into the USA until I reach the end of the snow line, and park the vehicle, get on the bike and come back 2 weeks later and come home with a lot of biking and a sunburn.. drool... While all this is just a dream right now, I'm sorta hunting for some info hopefully you yanks can help out with.. (A) in mid Feb, how far south would I need to go to be able to get on the bike and be 100% I won't get into snow / freezing rain trouble at the start of the trip.. 2 weeks later, say 1 March, get back.. (B) Though I will be able to tow my bike behind the vehicle on the trailer, I still need to protect it from the road salts (tons of it up here).. Is there a decent and proper bike wrap thing that can be used to protect the bike the bike yet not flap itself stupid and kill the bike? And the fun thing is that this bike trailer can be quickly converted to a trailer to be pulled behind the bike nice.
  17. We will be heading down to Daytona next Sat, the 18th for the day. Were meeting up with "Coach" and his wife Linda from Ohio for some lunch. Any local who wants to make the trip chime in. We used to meet at a place called the Sly Fox on US1 South but it has since closed down. However I saw it was open again under new ownership, US1 restaurant or something like that. Its located South of the Sunshine Mall. Address is: US-1 restaurant 2842 S Ridgewood Ave (US1) South Daytona FL Time: 2PM Located on southbound Ridgewood ave (east side of roadway) If not there then Webbers Steaks is another good place, also on US1. This will be updated later this week.
  18. Normally I wouldn't post Venture (1st & 2d Gen) sightings, but you would have thought there was a Venture rally in northeast WI this past weekend. Saturday while riding from Suamico down to Appleton, we first passed a MM RSV on Cty B just before we got on 41. I've seen this guy before over the last couple of years, but never stopped...pretty sure he lives close by. Then on 41 just south of DePere passed a Midnight headed north on 41, and shortly thereafter had a blue 1st Gen pass us headed south on 41. Had to make a quick stop at the Fox Valley Mall, and as we're pulling out pass another Midnight on a side street just off College. A little later in the afternoon, while in the cage with a daughter and grandsons, we see another Midnight on Calumet in Darboy. Once on 55 south we see two 1st Gens riding together, one brown and tan, the other blue. Later we're stopped at a gas station in Stockbridge and a 99 RSV pulls to get gas...a little further south on 55 see a 1st Gen and another 99 parked outside a local watering hole. Then headed home later that evening (back on the bike) we pass a red RSV on Calumet just before we get on 441. Yesterday we head up to Door County and see a MM on 57 headed toward Green Bay, a Midnight in Sturgeon Bay, a red RSV in Ephaim, and I lost count of the 1st Gens. So if we passed someone here... Curt
  19. Yep, we got home Sunday night from the PIP that ended a week earlier. Denise and I spent the next 7 days wandering northern MN, nw WI, and a bit of upper MI. Looked for the least straight country roads we could find and hopped from state park to state park, geo-caching as we went. Road some beautiful country, mostly in decent weather (we got absolutely drenched once by Two Harbors, MN) on our RSV, and really enjoyed ourselves. Highlight roads included county 71 around Ten Mile Lake south of Walker, MN (new tar, lines painted, but NO signs whatever had been replaced after the ditch re-building, and the road curved and carved the hills along the lake-way fun, right Norm and Kim?), Highway 1 from Ely, MN to Lake Superior, Pierce County (WI) O from near Red Wing, MN north toward River Falls, WI, and a handful of roads that took us south from Marenisco, MI toward Woodruff, WI. We spent Sat and Sun in SE MN around the Winona area, and you could ride there for days and not run out of good roads. Wish we could have spent more time there and in SW WI, but that will have to wait for another time. Also have to echo what has been said about the PIP, great hosts, great place, great people, great food, great time. Such a diversity of people with the common interest of riding on 2 wheels, mostly Ventures. I learned a lot getting in on Maintainance Time as well. To report on the carb sync results, my mileage increased to 43-44 mpg, after having faded to the 40-41 area prior to the sync. Can't say that I can notice a difference in performance or smoothness, but the mpg's are there again. Owl, Denise made good use of the gaitors (sp) thru the week, sometimes when it was cool and they went over jeans, and sometimes when it was downright cold, and they went over everything else she had on. So thanks again. Look forward to crossing paths with all the folks at PIP again in the future. Wish we could have got to know the Canadian contingent better, but they got in about the time we were going to head to the hotel for the night on Sat (definite disadvantage for not camping on the grounds) and they were out on a group ride by the time we got there on Sunday, and hadn't returned by the time we left. That's about enough. Thanks again to Gary, Ann, Owl, and everybody for a good time. Larry:thumbsup2:

Gary @ Annie: it's good to hear that everything is going great with the treatments, Was just curious if my old campsite is still open, if not one that is a bit further south, so that the hiway traffic muffles the camp noise, I will see you in a couple of weeks
  21. I'm trying to locate the boundary lines of a certain plot containing .008 acres of land. What I would like to see is a land plot drawing of the following. The reference is West Virginia Plane Coordinate System South Zone. 1. Beginning at a corner South 30 degrees 03' East 25 feet. 2. South 08 degrees 04' West 128 ft to the intersection of new right of way 3. South 86 degrees 24' West 15 feet 4. North 38 degrees 17' West 18 feet to a corner 5. North 12 degrees 45' East 140 feet to place of beginning. Is this a 4 or 5 sided land tract. I would love to have a software program that would draw a scale model of this plot. This is a piece the Government purchased to modify a section of road years ago. I have located a metal stake which is one of the boundaries in this section but can not locate the other boundary markers to see if any of this crosses what I believe to be my lot.Is it possible to follow this with a compass? Not ready to pay $$$ yet for survey.
  22. Hello all, I am just starting to plan for a trip to South Dakota in 2009. I want to see Mt. Rushmore, ride Iron Mountain Road and Needles Highway. We are coming up from Oklahoma. I was wondering how many here have taken this trip. I would like suggestions and advice on what to avoid, what to see, and the best times of the year to go. Thanks... Bill
  23. And I got soaked. Almost home, tried to detour around the storm, but it exploded. On the south edge, heading south, I couldn't outrun it. Here's the route I planned: http://tinyurl.com/6bbwou I abandoned the route at Jay, and headed south to Locust Grove to miss the storm. As soon as I turned south, the heavens opened up. Lightning, rain, wind... I stopped to pitch all my pocket contents in the trunk and don my jacket. I resumed until I reached Locust Grove, then stopped for an early supper until the storm passed. After supper, I headed west until I saw more lightning ahead, then turned north at Inola, to get back to my original route. As I danced between raindrops on the final leg, I saw downed power lines. If I do this ride again, who's in?
