  1. Anybody know where I can get a tune up in South Florida? I only know of one Yamaha shop down here and I'm not sure they know how to work on a Venture.
  2. Is there anyone around South East Iowa that has some carb sinc tools that is willing to help out with my carbs? Thank You, Shaun
  3. This summer (July 16th - 26th), we're taking a trip from Utah to Madison, WI for STAR Days. After the event, we're planning on a 3-4 day ride back, and we're looking for some ideas on any can't miss spots along the way. From Wisconsin, we're thinking about heading back on 90 through Minnesota and South Dakota. Then to Wyoming and Idaho, and then back to Utah. Once we get past about the middle of South Dakota, we know were we want to go from there. I just can't figure out what there is to see between Madison, Wisconsin and South Dakota. Anyone have any recommendations for things which we want to be sure to check-out along the way? I appreciate the advice as always! Thanks & Be Safe! Pete.
  4. We are finishing up a vacation to South Padre Island with my son, member ajlyoung1221 on this board, and family. This afternoon I followed a Venture over the bridge onto the Island. I am wondering if it might have been a member here. By the way - we are having a GREAT time!
  5. Not!!! Go figure??? Definate Global Warming I feel for you down south Take your time in shovelling snow:thumbsup2:
  6. There are some roads / routes that are like comfort food, we ride them again and again and they never really get old, or stale but more beloved for the familiarity we gain with them. As I sit here this morning, prepping to run one of my favorite routes, again, I thought I would write it out for any of the local folks who wanted to give it a go. Get thee, first, to Winder in Barrow County and head south on GA 11 (not business 11)... through Bethlehem,Monroe, and Social Circle and then south of I20 begins some of the nicest "horse" country that GA has to offer, ranches and plantations on both sides of the road. Not twisty, but rolling with occasional sweepers and long views of the fields, farmhouses and giant oak trees that guard them. Down to Monticello and through that lovely old square where 11 changes her nature and becomes more twisty as she follows the railroad tracks from Monticello through Hillsboro, Round Oak, and Wayside (a good place to pause for a moment) to Gray, GA. Turn left on GA 22 and make the 4 lane run to Milledgeville and just before 441, turn left on GA 212. which takes one through lake country and rolls through the Oconee national forest back to Monticello and back through that square on 212 to the Dairy Queen next to the Monticello inn for a break (and maybe a cone). 212 then through Jackson and into Covington (where I pick up 81 back to Loganville, and then 78 or 20 to home, or hit some little back roads) A figure 8 ride, allowing one to almost complete the square in Monticello.
  7. HA HA! COLD IN THE SOUTH ISN'T IT?:rotfl:
  8. pick

    Lowers

Long story short, last week I had to take a furlough, so wife and I headed south for a week of r&r in Fl. About 40 mles south of Warner Robbins, Ga. in the dark, 80mph, hit something? Not sure what it was? Desk? Drawer? Some kind of piece of furniture. Anyways, got the bike pulled over to check for damages. Broke both lowers, brake lines, radiator and all look ok, but am gonna have to replace the cowlings, bent the crash bars, but they can be straightened. Any one got any good deals on lowers for an 01 RSV?

  12. Hi guys, sometime early next month, my buddy and I are heading out on yet another long road trip and we thought of trying something new. Entering the USA at Houlton Maine, we would be proceeding south on the I95. We're thinking of hitting Mount Washington in NH and then down to what we heard is one heck of a nice ride, the "Skyline", the "Blue Ridge Parkway" and then the famous Deels Gap (dragon's tail) If you have detailed info as to where these routes start, how to get there etc via town names to plug into the GPS, what to expect, especially if you yourself have had personal experience on these routes, please do drop me a line. As mentioned, we would be coming from the north heading south.. Thanks in advance.. Cheers
  13. No real agenda for my wife and I...prolly going to ferry across from Victoria to Port Angeles in a day or so. From there we are heading south on the 101. This was day one: http://members.shaw.ca/rsxer/trip.jpg Hanging out in Vancouver for a couple days...
  14. A 53-year-old Argos man died early Saturday morning after a car crashed into his motorcycle on U.S. 31, , south of 11th Road The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department identified the Argos man as Kenneth Nettrouer. Witnesses told police Christian Chacon, 21, of Granger, was driving a 1987 BMW 325 at a high rate of speed as he passed three vehicles, just before the crash. There was patchy fog in the area at the time of the crash. Police said Chacon drove into the back of Nettrouer’s 2007 Honda Shadow 750 motorcycle, throwing him. The force of the collision caused Chacon’s car to roll over, stopping when righted itself on its wheels. Plymouth EMS responded to the scene. Nettrouer was flown by Samaritan helicopter to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, where he later died, according to a police news release issued early Saturday afternoon. Chacon was arrested on several charges, police said. (will we ever learn to slow down)
  15. Hey Everyone,, Vern Here,,, I have been enjoying my new 09' Venture,,, Today I was up at 3:00am hit the road, Met my friend Rodney @ I-10 & Chaffee RD at 4:30AM we headed to the A1A and Atlantic Blvd. I usually won't go near Jax Beaches area on the weekend, Traffic is a Giant JAM, but I wanted ride to Daytona on A1A. It was great @ 5:30 am . we stopped watched the Sun Rise,, had B-Fast at the Beachcomber Restuarant ( St. Augustine Fl. ). Its about 3 miles south of hwy 312, turn left on "A" Street. Go to the Ocean, it doesn't look like much, but the food was great,, huge 10" pancakes. ( Assorted Flavors), its a small place. we ate out side, service was great. Bike is doing well, wish it had an electric windscreen, the dealer did not properly clean the front rotors, front brakes are squealing their A@# off, I've cleaned the pads and Sanded the Rotors, its alittle better, but not correct. Will replace Pads. Went to the J & P store on US 1, Looked at Farkles. I need alot more $$$$$$$$$ !! Anyway,, excellent bike, hope everyone had very good 4th OF July! I've enjoyed this site as well,, Seems like cool group of riders. Later Vern
  16. I know there are a lot of scenic rides in the Black Hills but here are some of that don't get a lot of traffic usually. One of the better ride is just south of Sturgis, SD, just south of I-94 exit 32. It is Vanocher Canyon Road. There is alot of curves and elevation changes on it and very little traffic other the other motorcyclist. It is a nice paved road and run to Nemo Road on the south end. From here I take Nemo road east towards Rapid City but turned south onto Norris Peak road. This was a twisty, sometimes little narrow paved 2 lane road the goes to Johnson Siding on SD 44. From here you can either go east to Rapid City or west to US 385. I enjoyed this ride so much I did it twice, once from the north and then from the south.. I also went into Sturgis and had lunch at One eyed Jacks on Main St. They have excellent hamburgers there. Another fun ride was the Old Hill City Road. This run alongs the Hill City Railroad tracks to Keystone. It is lightly traveled and has alot of curves on it. You will cross the tracks over a dozen times also. This is a nice ride from Hill City to Keystone. Of course I did the major riding roads too.. US 16A and Needles Highway. The one thing to watch out for on Needles highway are the tour buses and I mean the full size kind. So be prepared for meeting a few of these. I ended up meeting 4 of them on one trip and it took one of them about 20 mins to get thru the eye. He sure had traffic backed up both ways. Also road in Spearfish Canyon Road, US 14. We started in Spearfish and rode to US 85 where we headed south to New Castle, Wy. This is a nice road with lots of twisties in SD and then flattens out in Wy but still is a nice ride. We returned to the Hills via US 16 east to Custer. This route has more traffic but does have some scenic spots that make it a nice change. Another circle I did was south out of Hill City on US 385, thru Custer and south to SD 87 north. SD 87 is a twisty narrow road that runs up to US 16 and has all kinds of different terrain. I didnt have alot of traffic on this road either, compared to US 16A and Needles Hwy. There is a pigtail bridge on this section also that adds some interest to it but alot of wide open areas that give stunning views of the valleys. These were the roads I traveled this time and there are alot more you can do. If you dont mind gravel roads, there is always the forest roads to explore but I dont recommend it on a Venture Royale. Hope this helps in your travels of the Black Hills. I know I sure enjoys my travels out there on the motorcycle. Rick F.
  17. Just thought I let everyone know that there is a section of US Hwy 212 in South Dakota that you might want to avoid. It is between Redfield and Faulkton SD. This section in packed gravel and dirt. The actual length of this section of "road" is 26 miles west of Redfield to the western edge of Redfield. There is no posted detour but google maps does show heading south on US Hwy 281 to SD 26 west and then going north on SD 45. Unfortunately I did take that route so I can attest to how it is, but I can tell you that the section of 212 wasnt fun at all. After getting over it and stopping in Faulkton, a local said it has been that way for a few years now with no completion date stated. I do know there was no construction equipment to be seen anywhere there. The rest of US 212 was a nice drive and well worth the ride if you are either heading out to the Black Hills or back from there. Just want to let you know in case you are planning on that route. Rick F.
  18. Is there any better place to buy one? By better place I mean cheaper I checked FleaBay but nothing cheap there. I am in the GWN but I'll travel south of the border to pick one up if it is worth the it. Thanks
  19. There's many other ways to open a bottle of Pop Bobbie But Than I do understand why..You're from the South :rotfl:
  20. We are making a trip south to visit family in Lake Park, GA. Normally when we go there, wife and I head to Panama City for a day or two of diving in the Gulf. Thanks to BP, that probably ain't happening this year. Just talked to the dive shop and they confirmed oil over some of the popular ship wrecks and on the jetties at the state park. They are supposed to call me back on Weds and let me know if we are diving this weekend. Wife said, if we can't dive, we'll take the bike and do some riding. I may need a VR guide or 2.
  21. My neighbor and I took a 300 mile ride today and purposely stopped at this memorial rock. The kid paints this rock every year in memory of our Vets. One portion of the rock does not get repainted as it actually has ashes from some veterans in the paint. If you ever travel across I-80 in Iowa - turn south on highway 25 west of Des Moines - and the rock is about a mile south of the interstate on the east side of the road.
  22. Hey Nighthawk II, sure was nice to meet you this afternoon! I'd like to come up to Oneida and ride sometime. Maybe we should try to get all the East Tennessee Venture riders together and do the curves of the Big South Fork!
  23. Anyone in the south east Georga area can help with the carb sync?????
  24. I was in the cafeteria at work today. I normally go there late so it is quiet and calm with not many people around. On the other side of the room I could overhear a conversation between one of the cafeteria managers and a customer. I was not paying close enough attention till I was snapped to attention by the comment "by the end of this year the oil in the gulf will have flowed up the Mississippi and be contaminating the shores in Wisconsin". Too which I could only think WTF!!! They then morphed the conversation to the FACT that rivers can only flow south. It is "impossible" for water to naturally flow North. On my way out the door after I finished my lunch I mentioned to the manager that water will always flow down hill regardless of which direction that is. Water does not know how to read a compass. At that same time as I mentioned this there was another customer that walked in and got all over me, because it is a FACT that water can only flow from north to south. At which point I had to RUN FOR MY LIFE. I did not post this in Jokes and Humor cuz it really did just happen!! I thought that I had a pretty good handle on this gravity thing and how it relates to water. Or am I all wet and therefore doomed to be headed south. I'm scared now. Hiding in my office with all of the lights off. OK flame suit on,,,,,,,,,or should I be wearing a wet suit.
  25. This occurred this AM about 11:00. http://www.wciv.com/news/stories/0510/734839.html?ref=em Mount Pleasant, SC - Police say two motorcyclists were killed in an accident when their motorcycles were struck and pushed into cars in Mount Pleasant on Tuesday. The Mount Pleasant Police say 50-year-old James Hines from New York and 80-year-old James Doucette from Florida died from injuries sustained from the accident. According to authorities, the two motorcycles were stopped in traffic near the intersection of 17 South and Anna Knapp. Police say the two motorcycles were then struck from behind by an SUV, which then pushed the two motorcycles into a car in front and then in to another car. Authorities say both men were in town for bike week. They were transported to MUSC where they died. The accident is still under investigation, charges are pending. Highway 17 south was closed for about three hours. ________________________________________________________________________ I got there shortly after they loaded 3 ambulances & headed on south into Charleston. There was a Harley laid over on it's left side with the aft end from the tank back under a large van (with the front of the van mashed......I think the pic in the article is that bike from the reverse angle) and what looked like 3 or 4 others on the ground with all manner of pieces bent & missing. I can't recall ever seeing that much bike debris....it was everywhere. The speed limit in that area (2 stoplights N of the Ravenel Bridge on Hwy 17 S) is 45 and is stop and go any time of the day; but especially that time of day. I'll stop short of speculating what the SUV driver did or didn't do and simply ask for prayers for all concerned. There were at least 6-8 other bikes parked a little beyond the wreck; I'm guessing they were part of a group ride and the 2 that were killed were at the tail end possibly separated from the rest by a car, but I don't know. All of the radio stations have been doing almost 1/2 hourly PSAs about watching out and reminding people that bikes are out in numbers......it's just not enough. Our presence just doesn't seem to be being made important enough to the rest of the driving public!
