  1. BOSTON ACOUSTICS S45 4" Anyone try these in a venture? Any in put would be great. Looking for a little better sound from the old girl.
  2. I have bubs with the messed up tips as well. When I removed the tips and baffles there was no packing left at all. Just for the fun of it I started up my bike and loved the way it sounded. I use to have a v-star 1100 w/vance and hines and miss that sound. So what would happen if I dont put my baffles back in? Would my carbs need to be re-jetted? Would heat become an issue and cause the pipes to crack, chip, or blue??
  3. For nearly as long as I have had my 07 Venture, it has had an annoying rattley buzzy noise on the right side behind me and a little down. Drove me nuts, when I would throttle up or let off if would rattle. You know one of those noises that you hate, you know it is not serious, but bugs the crap out you. Checked everything on the right side to see if they were tight, multple times, never found anything lose. Pulled he right Kromewerks slipon muffler off, nothing in there, plus it did not really sound like a metalic noise anyway. It was always associated with throttle on or off, but I could not get it to sound off unless I was riding, never heard it when the engine was raced and the bike stationary. Today it was worse than ever, when I got home I was able to hear it while on the side stand in he garage. When I would put my fingers on the right rear speaker grill the noise would stop, remove my finger noise comes back. "HA Got you" I said to myself. Looked inside for some foriegn object (FO for you USAF guys) nothing. So I start to pull plastic parts off, nothing, so when I put things back together, I put a small piece of adhesive backed foam ruber betwen the speaker gill and the frame it mounts to behind the passenger seat. Took it for a short test run, no noise. Plan on taking an all day ride tommorrow, that should tell me if it finally fixed or not. Here is for hoping.
  4. Just checked in to the Best Western Room 128. Nice room for the price! We will be here until Tuesday morning then on to Nashville for a couple of days then back here Thursday evening. Meeting up with B2DAD tomorrow morning at Hannigans. Got a lousy 10mpg towing the trailer but we got here safe and sound!!
  5. Has anyone mounted the stebel horn inside the fairing. How does it sound in there.
  6. :fiddle:I must be getting old,HA!!! Anyway goodbye to the rk mufflers "overrated?" I have tried them all rk screaming eagle , stock 09 ultra mufflers, older rk mufflers and i came to the conclusion that they don,t sound that good. this hi revving v4 should sound like a ferarri not a john deere. Is there any pipes that make it sound mellower and not raspy ? I am going to put the stocks back on this week "glad i kept them" and never look back. Kinda felt sorry for all the folks i passed having to listen to that !!
  7. I am always asking questions and getting great advice and tips from everyone on here...thought I would give back (if only a little). I recently spoke (in another thread) about my first longer ride and the use of the headset vs speakers vs earbuds, and how I rated each of them. Just to summarize...I rated these three options on a scale of 10. Speakers .... 4 Headset...... 2 Earbuds....... 8 (maybe even a 9 on a better set of buds) Anyway, in order to utilize the headset with earbuds you need the motorcycle adapter to convert the headset to a mini-plug. The first one I bought I paid over $50.00 for it at a 3rd party location on the net...however I found the actual vendor online and now this adapter can be had for only $24.95. Here is the company URL: http://plugup.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7&products_id=19 Like I said, using the earbuds is a HUGE improvement sound wise, as well as eliminating the wind and motor noise (got rid of my WHINE ). I know there might be some safety issues with earbuds, that's something you'll have to work out on your own...but for MUCH BETTER SOUND...this is the ONLY way to go. Wally
  8. Yesterday during my ride I was hearing a sound like a flat spot hitting the pavement coming from my front tire. Kind of a slap---slap---slap sound. I could not find any kind of cupped out place on the tire. Now I am wondering if it might be a sepration of the belts. Anyone ever have this or something similar? The tire is a Metz.
  9. first ride of 2010....really loved hearing:12101: the chirpping sound...it's been a long 5 months...but it was a sweet sound
  10. I've tried to look the threads and maybe I missed it. Question: How do the bub's sound at 70 mph? Do they scream or purr?
  11. Wondering if anyone experienced something similar or can confirm diagnosis. 2006 RSV. 46K miles. Many miles and a few years ago , I inserted a three-way stereo aux line splitter inside the faring...1) to GPS, 2) to Satellite radio/iPod, 3) to cassette aux jack. Also have a Buddy Rich cable. Stereo sound through any of the three stereo aux extension cables worked OK for most of the time, though have had to live with much lower volume levels, especially if two items were powered on at the same time (I.e. GPS and iPod) compared to the volume level of the AM/FM radio. Over time, the audio from the GPS has developed a lot of snap/crackle/pop and the audio from the iPod would drop in and out of the headset speakers (sometimes left speaker, sometimes right speaker) - not getting complete stereo. I would jiggle the male jack into the GPS or iPod and could hear the stereo fidelity cut in and out. I would replace the aux extension cable and use dielectric grease and everything would be good for a few months. Problem progressed such that I can't get stereo fidelity out of either GPS or iPod (I.e. half the sound in only one speaker). to the point where jiggling the extension cables doesn't fix it and replacing the extension cables doesn't fix it. I also replaced the three-way splitter to no avail. Through process of elimination I have found that the female aux pigtail that is hard wired into the radio is not putting out stereo sound, so every splitter and extension cable downstream is also not putting out stereo sound. Would I be correct in believing that the radio aux pigtail has failed? Should this be covered under warranty? Major bummer. Anyone experienced anything similar? Thanks David
  12. Greetings, I am starting a rebuild on my 83 1st Gen, I've reviewed the exhaust threads on the website, Does anyone have model or part numbers for replacement exhaust's. MY original exhaust pipes are starting to rust out on the bottom. I'm not looking to sound like a Harley, but a little rumble would be nice. Here in MN, Metric guys are left in the dark since HD's are huge here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  13. The Chrysler Air Raid Siren is the most powerful siren every built. It's the size of a car, and is powered by a 180Hp Chrysler Industrial V-8 HEMI gasoline engine. The sound is 138 dB at 100'! The Chrysler Air Raid Siren is so powerful that it can reportedly start fires with just the sound vibrations it produces. It can turn fog into rain, clearing the sky. It can produce an effective 70 dB air raid signal for a distance of two miles, and under proper conditions can be heard 30 to 50 miles away. Its advertised effective range was four miles in every direction. That's a long way! I thought information was cool. I found the site last year when searching for siren sound files to annoy my cube neighbor. Here're the .wav files. I'm gonna put it on my phone as a ringtone. But of particular interest was the comparative loudness information. We've talked before how the Stebel is rated at 139 dB... at 4". A jet engine taking off on afterburner is 130 dB at 50'. This monster is 139 dB at 100'! Wow! Dave
  14. Hey everybody.... I'm going for that "V8 rumble sound" for my 04 RSV and not leaning to the 4-2-4 slip ons. (Very cool sound though) I could use some current feedback (some of the posts are a little outdated) I need to let my Harley/custom buddies know when I pass them not sound like a "sewing machine"...LOL I'm getting torn between: Baron Bag Slash Pipes cool sound sample (Mounts were altered to raise the pipes closer to the bags for improved ground clearance, incase I ever lowered I'm 5'6) KHROME WERKS Slip-on’s (some posts complained about tips flaking?) Bub Sleeper (does anybody know if black tips can work on these? I've seen them on other non-metric bikes and look sharp) LA Choppers OVAL BAG SLASH PIPES I've seen no response on these yet. Nice look and black tips are sharp. The costs are close enough for me to consider any of them. Baron's has 3 of these models http://www.baronscustom.com/catalog/category/20/index.html Thanks...
  15. Well, I finally got my MP3 input hardwired in to the wiring harness. I installed a 3pdt switch to seperate the FM signal from the MP3 signal. They work great. However, I've noticed the potential of my new speakers - which works GREAT with the MP3 and is marginal with the FM radio. The FM works fine...just quiet. It preforms just as well as it did before the MP3 input mod. I just wish I could get a louder sound with the FM radio so that I could hear it better when engine is running. I haven't gotten my comm. headset yet...its in the mail. Does it all work better when the sound is piped through the headset?
  16. AND TRY TO WIPE THE SMILE FROM MY FACE!!!!!! I just wrapped up installing my Mustang Seat w/DBR and Khrome Werks pipes!!!! MAN DO THEM PIPES SOUND GREAT!!! I will load pictures tomorrow evening.
  17. was just wandering if anybody knows if a set of road king mufflers can be made to fit on a 91 VR. I've cuut and drilled out my stock and although I love the sound just wanted a cleaner look. If this question has already been answerd before then I apologise. Tahnks in advance. David
  18. Birthdays are good for you! The more you have, the longer you live!!! Old age comes at a very bad time!!! It ain't the Age - It's the mileage!!! Any day above ground is a good one!!! It's not that I'm afraid to die - It's just that I don't want to be around when it happens!!! The more you complain, the longer God makes you live!!! If I knew I'd live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself!!! RETIREMENT: Twice as much Husband - Half as much Money!!! But then, my Wife always gives me sound advice - 99% sound -- 1% advice!!!
  19. Anybody have a set of Baron 4-2-4s that can take a pic of a baffle? Even a description would be a lot of help. I picked up a set of used 4-2-4s last fall. They look great on the bike, but there's one small problem. No baffles. Yowie zowie, those things are loud! There's no way Irene and I can go touring with straight pipes and hear ourselves think five minutes into the ride, much less at the end of the day. I cut off a set of "standard" baffles so they'd fit and added wire extensions that run up into the pipes. I wrapped those with packing material. Now the sound is satisfactory, nearly stock in fact, but I'm afraid I have too much back pressure. I'm considering taking them out and reworking the packing material for more exhaust flow. A little more sound would be ok too. I'm basically wondering if I'm going in the right direction. Can anyone offer any guidance?
  20. I got a Zumo for Christmas and am not that impressed with the sound quality from the Mp3 files I uploaded to the Zumo. How is the sound quality from the GXM 30 when listening to XM Radio? Is it in stereo?
  21. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuyaVcqTgic]YouTube- honda choir[/ame] The new Honda Civic UK commercial is based around a chorus who create all of the sound effects with their mouths. It's amazing
  22. HAPPY THANKSGIVING from the Bosely's and Minimuffin. Had a wonderful day here on the Outer Banks. Partly Cloudy beautiful sunset on the sound. Setting outside enjoying the evening. Plenty of Food, Dessert, and Wine:whistling:.
  23. Sometimes when going about 60 mph, I hear a high pitched sound coming from I-don't-know-where. If the bike is straight up, it goes away. If I lean slightly left or right, it's there, significantly louder than the wind and road noise. Doesn't seem to matter if I'm accelerating, decelerating or pull in the clutch and coasting. Since it only seems to happen at one small range of speed, gets much louder when at a slight angle, and doesn't seem to change with accel/decel, my guess is that it's the tires, but I thought I'd post here just in case it's something that needs to be addressed. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Do (Dunlop 404) tires whine at certain speeds?
  24. So I need some info on changing the speakers on my 03 RSV I was looking at the Plok Audio db401 any info on the speaker and install please post. How much better will they sound than stock and are any better? Thanks
  25. Is there any such thing as to loud??? Just removed some of the baffles out of my stock 1st Gens mufflers. Of course we had to start it up, and rev it up while mufflers removed. WOW that sound nice!!! Maybe to loud. So we put the partially de-baffled mufflers on. Sounds ok at idle, and at cruising speed. However sounds to raspy while going through the gears, hitting the obligatory 6-7,000 rpms. I would like a deeper rumbling sound.
