  1. I got a Carbtune from a member last winter (it was brand new). Paid less than $100. Used it once on my scoot and last night sync'd a buddies bike. Cost him a 6-pak of beer and a short trip to my place. Took me less than 15 minutes. I'd say I'm already ahead of the game by a 6-pak. Probably would have cost $100 at the stealer's. Those of you who've taken your scoot to a dealer for a sync ... what did it cost? (curious to know)
  2. Scoot mostly packed....working on my first cup of coffee.....getting pup ready for the trip to the boarding kennels... gonna grab some breakfast and awaiting on Bull463....then were off to meet Rickster and Michelle on her new scoot in Ripley, NY...Taking the scenic roads to Oberlin....Its gonna be a great day....see you all there....may even have time for an stop or two !
  3. Spent yesterday getting a new skin on the scoot, giving it the once over, fluids, check brake pads, linkage adjustment etc. Along comes Spankym and Buffalo Bobnar . By the time the day was over,we installed new risers and a CB hookup for Kenny (Buffalo Bonder) and pulled and checked the brake pads on spankym's scoot. I was done in for(it was hot and muggy)...I thought that md was next weekend at freebirds?...Guess like me, the boys want to HANG OUT at freebirds....and we didn't even go for ice cream, and come to think of it we missed dinner too.:rotf: We did get to enjoy a cold one or two.
  4. So I call the Yammi Dealer in Baton Rouge (Friendly Yamaha; 10939 Airline Highway) and explain to the Service Manager my situation with the pooched fuel pump. She confirmed my VIN Number and that the scoot was still under Warranty. Trade the pooched pump for a new one and save them a bit of time in labor? Not on your life. The scoot has to be brought in and they have to do everything. I have to wonder if the folks at Yammi who set policy really have the customers best interest at heart when it comes to stuff like this. I have NO intention of trailering the scoot there and letting them do anything. Just gives me a bad case of red a$$ and solidifys my decision to keep my 06 and never buy another new scoot from them..... no matter what upgrades/improvements they come out with on the future Ventures. Boomer....who's really gonna dish out a beating to dem pygmies now.
  5. When I was young :rotfl:I could remember my dad saying your engine is not broken in until you reach 60,000 miles and then you other bikers say geez you r scoot bearly broken with 55,000 miles. So you smart A**** out there, when is an engine broken in And What is broken in (the rings settling in I guess)
  6. I never towed a trailer before and I know that the trailer I have will go 70mph with no swaying BUT Whats the recommended safe traveling speed for towing a trailer behind a scoot
  7. I know that there was an old thread with this same title But i am having no luck with the searching. Anyways, my question is; has anyone tried to hook up electric brakes for the trailer behind the scoot? I am thinking of building a trailer to be able to haul large lightweight items (specifically big Radio control model aircraft). Not much weight but a lot of volume. I am loking at a box size of about 96" long x 40" wide x 24" tall. Max cargo weight will be 100lbs Typical would be more like 50 lbs. Every trailer that I ever pulled with a cage had electric trailer brakes, and I was wondering if anyone ever installed them on a scoot trailer? My initial thought is that It would sure make a difference in a panic stop situation as well as save wear and tear on the bikes braking system.
  8. I just notice when I turn on the signal lights, all lights slightly pulsate.. Now I know that this is cause by a bad ground Do I look for on the scoot or on the trailer, I Have a 6 prong connector
  9. I dont often Get pissed off Im ready to blow at some one But This Morning and Im still Fuming Prior to buying the scoot I personally contacted MTO here in Sudbury And They told me That if I bought The Motorcycle I had to trailer here. for 2 weeks I have been searching a way to get the trailer and scoot down here Its 8 hours from here. I got the scoot and trailer registered in Ontario and Insured Well I just happened to run in to my retire Police buddy and He tells me this After buying the car, you will register it in your name in Quebec. You will register it as an "export" sale and get temporary licence plates allowing you to drove the car to Ontario. Because of the export status of the registration, Quebec will not charge provincial tax. Once in Ontario, you must register the car again, to get Ontario plates. This is where you will pay tax: the Ontario 8% sales tax. Note that the car must pass the safety inspection before you can get plates.:doh::doh: Anybody in Ontario Know how I can go around This???
  10. Enjoying our first ride together on our new scoot... http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/2003%20Venture/IMG_3806.jpg
  11. Have you noticed how individuals and dealers write a description on Touring scoots .....Like It comes with all Factory Options and when you look at the scoot you are hoping it comes with all the chrome accessories And than you look at the photo and what you see is a stock touring scoot
  12. Thomas Liquid Stainless Steel My buddy ordered the kit he's going to try it on his black plastic parts on his scoot http://www.liquidstainlesssteel.com/learnhow.html

    Vacuum guage

Some older vintage vehicles had a vacuum guage. What was the purpose of that? Any merit to having a vacuum guage on the scoot?
  14. How many of you 2nd Owners have over 150,000 miles on your scoot?
  15. Since I am getting my new scoot next week, I am tossing around the idea of letting the 1st Gen go. A friend made me a REALLY good deal when I bought the 1st Gen, and I would like to pay it forward to someone who doesn't have much money to buy one, or has lost their scoot because of hard times. The scoot doesn't look quite as good as it does in my profile pic, but those here who have seen it can attest to the fact that it is still a pretty good looking scoot. I can supply recent pics upon request. Here are the details: '83 standard am/fm/cd player with upgraded speakers Luggage rack Trailer hitch Passenger floorboards Dunlop Elite 3s with 6k on them(LOTS of tread left) Replaced all of the brakes last spring when I got the tires. Battery is about 3 weeks old, with one year replacement warranty. Overall good condition, and I can get on it and ride it anywhere...if it would just warm up, lol. The bad: needs 2nd gear fix. Never bothered me much. I just usually skip 2nd. Fork seals leak. Could use fork rebuild and progressive springs. The scoot runs really well, and although not great, is in pretty good shape. I ride it to work(80 miles round trip) whenever the weather lets me. Last time was 2 weeks ago. I am willing to let it go for $1000. Does that sound like a fair price? I don't need it anymore, and I thought maybe I could help someone else out, rather than let it sit. If interested, let me know.
  16. Woohoo!!! I got a chance for a short ride on my scoot today. the temp was about -20c and super nice.....lol Brian Actually i was taking the scoot in to fix that pesky oil leak ive been chasing, but any excuse for a ride.....and hey, what the heck the sun was shining and it felt sooo good.
  17. I wonder if they make one for a V4? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9XAC-BvUyo]YouTube- Shonky and the SoundRacer V8[/ame]
  18. Just finished firing up the scoot and running her for 25 minutes from a stationary position. Outside temp is 39F. The scoot is sitting on an incline with the front end higher than the rear. Within 2 minutes of starting her I notice WHITE SMOKE wisping off the exhaust pipe for the RIGHT REAR cylinder as I am sitting on the bike. I thoroughly checked everything around the area of that right rear cylinder and I see nothing to indicate what is the source of this white smoke. I have never encountered this specific problem on the scoot before. There is NO evidence of oil or coolant leakage anywhere on the engine or around that particular cylinder. I ran the bike warm enough so that I could hear the fan running a few minutes before I turned off the engine too. Yes the bike is still under Warranty but getting it to the Dealer at this time is not a viable option due to all the snow and ice I'm dealing with here. Any idea's ....comments....suggestions? Boomer.....who's really baffled by this problem!!
  19. I am not sure if see foam is or can be used as a gas stabilizer. If it can then I guess that would be the "Thing" to use when winterizing my scoot. If not, I would think any stabilizer from Canadian Tire would work right?
  20. For the first time in a few months I actually rode a scoot. The back is almost 100%, and the weather was awesome. I needed a little welding done on the '91, so decided to ride it over to the welders. Not far but enough to get the feel of being on 2 wheels again.... WooHooo!!! Temps yesterday got into the 70's. I actually cracked a sweat working on the scoot in the afternoon...
  21. Last night I was at a meeting till 10:00pm. The meeting was held in a back room of a bar that is sometimes a "biker bar" Once I came out of the meeting and saw my poor old scoot, I was floored, it was vandalized. My nice burgundy venture was now covered with white stuff. I didn't even recognize it as mine at first. But since it was still 45 deg when I left the house, mine was the only bike there. All of the other wusses have already stored there bikes for the winter. Upon closer examination my poor old scoot was covered by about a 1/8 inch thick layer of................. ......................... frost. I had to bum an ice scraper to clear the windscreen to be able to drive home. It was Ma Nature that vandalized my ride. By the time I got home the temp had dropped to 31 degrees. I'm not sure what the wind chill is for 31 deg at 80-90 MPH. After the last couple of days I am convinced that Ma Nature is out to get me.
  22. I ordered some fork seals for the venture. A whole $8. Are they a pain to replace? I am an accomplished mechanic, but have never torn into fork seals on any scoot before. Anything I need to watch out for?
  23. I know that the service manual states on page 8-24 that the stator coil resistance ought to be between 0.279 and 0.341 ohms. Has anyone actually taken this measurement (excluding the run to pin 4 - since that seems to be a typo)? If so, what did you end up with? I am currently trying to troubleshoot my scoot and have already done the voltage check at the battery (which the scoot clearly passed). I have taken this measurement, but the resolution of the meter that I used is only 0.1 ohms, and I do not know for sure what the accuracy of the meter is nor what the TRUE range of this meter is... I have a better one at my office, which I will pick up when I go in next time to redo this measurement. The goal here is to verify that the stator is good/not good before I install and possibly ruin a new radio and/or not waste the money and time on a new stator if it is not necessary. Thanks in advance!
  24. Wish it weren't, but can't afford both the divorce and the scoot. My RSV is in the classifieds if anyone is interested or knows of someone looking. Thanks.
  25. 11 days later and my add-on for the scoot came in:bighug:
