  1. Okay guys, I know chrome and wide whites look great on Midnights, Black cherry, blue/black and Charcoal, but mine is the 04 White with the "bluish white cocktail". I hate the blue tint. I am gonna go for the street rod look. Already removed the emblems, the "eyebrows", the tank bib, and the stock chrome horn. Tape deck has been removed. RK mufflers. Moved the headset connector from the tank up to the handlebars under the radio. A painter owes me, I just need to remove body parts and strip the clear and stripes. My ideas at the moment are bright white, or Chevy Victory Red with Black accents to match my truck, or maybe Matte Black with Bright Red wheels and Rotors! Regardless, the dash will be Matte Black. Does anyone else have trouble with the white reflecting onto the windshield? I have the front rotor covers on my list. Will these be as hard to break the bolts loose as when I had to replace the rear rotor? Those I had to heat with a torch to break the loctite. I am looking for ideas to remove any other unnecessary chrome. Will fenders from a RSTD interchange? I would trade my fenders with mascot and standard chrome tips for fenders without holes! Will the RSTD tank interchange. Don't they have a "bulge" instead of the tank bib? I like that and would trade mine with factory rubber bib! Maybe one of you RSTD guys want the flat top tank for a mural!!!! Alright then, unload your cool ideas on me!
  2. I did my first oil change this week (2005 RSTD). I filled it to middle of the sight glass, started it to make sure the oil filter was full and checked it again. I had to pour a little more in to get it back to the middle. The thing I have a question about is after I rode to work and back the next day, I looked at it again and it's all the way to the top of the sight glass. Is this normal? Should I drain some out?
  3. Do any of you guys know if the luggage rack for the RSTD will bolt up on the 2nd gen RSV? I have taken the trunk off my RSV, and want to add a luggage rack for long trips. Thanks
  4. Do to business being so bad I have to sell my RSTD. If anyone is interested You can send me a e-mail. It's a 2005 leftover so it is just about 2 years old. It has a Mustang studed seat with driver backrest,HD pipes, driving lights.Mileage is about 3500. The color is Black. It is in mint condition. I'm looking for 9500.00. Tom tmoritz1@verizon.net

    1/4 mile time on RSTD

I was just curious how fast or slow a RSTD runs a 1/4 mile and Speed. It sure feels slow compared to my FJR.
  6. 8041.1 I have removed the trunk on my 03 RSMV. Now I want to put a backrest/luggage rack on for trips. I know, why didn't I just leave the trunk on. Well, I'm 5'7" and 145# and have put 57K miles on this beast mostly 2 up. The wife has her own now, and since she doesn't ride with me I decided to see what it felt like without the added "top" weight. Totally changed the way it handles. Love it even more. Now to the real question. Will the removable backrest and luggage rack for the newer RSTD's bolt right up on the 03 RSV? There are several holes in the fender strut and some of them were not used with the trunk rack. I'm thinking the RSTD fender/strut is probably the same as the RSV. Can anyone confirm this before I go out and blow a bunch of money on a part that won't fit?
  7. I had my first road trip on my 2006 RSTD and it was awesome. I road with four other bikes (3 Harleys and a BMW K1200GT). We started Friday morning from Houston, reaching Broken Bow, OK by late afternoon. Saturday we left early and road up through Arkansas to Missouri near Branson before returning to AR to spend the night at Mountain Home. Sunday we drove via Mount Magazine to Queen Wilhelmina State Park near Mena. Monday we drove home. In all, I logged 1487 miles over the four days. The RSTD handled like a dream, even on the twisties. Certainly, the Harleys (Fat Bob, Road Glide, and Road King Classic) didn't out-corner me, although the BMW might have. ;-) Observations: * Arkansas is a great state to ride. We hit a few scenic byways that were fabulous. There was a rally in-state that choked the Pig Trail, but otherwise that was great. The roads were in great shape for our motorcycles. * The weather was tremendous. Cool mornings, warm afternoons, clear blue skies. This was a great time of year for the ride. * Gas was plentiful and reasonably priced. I've heard other parts of the country have issues, but it wasn't a problem on this trip. * Lakeview Lodge in the Beavers Bend Resort of Broken Bow, OK was excellent. The sunrise over the reservoir was amazing. * The Queen Wilhelmina Hotel on the Talemina Scenic Byway was comfortable and the views were excellent, but have dinner elsewhere. * The RSTD averaged 37.4 mph, ranging between 31 in Houston rush hour traffic coming home to 43 going up and over Mt. Magazine. * I found the transmission whine ignorable, thanks to the pipes on the other bikes. ;-) If I wanted to hear my bike at all, I had to be running before theirs started. LOL The only time I heard the whine was when I was leading and their noise was astern. * The more annoying noise was my front tire. I think the front and the back need replacement soon, to save my sanity if for no other reason. They are the OEM Bridgestones with just 6000 miles on them. * My biggest problem in the twisties was that the heavy bike coasted down onto the bike in front of me. I didn't bleed speed as much as they did. I had to brake more often as a result. :-( * Logging 310-425 miles per day wasn't a problem until the last day. Standing still in rush hour traffic after riding 400 miles, heat from the engine cooking my legs, my rump suddenly became very sore. I have the stock seat, and will keep it while trying to avoid traffic in the future. * The tall windscreen was very welcome. I am 5'-9" and it kept plenty of bugs from committing suicide on my helmet. * My range was the shortest of the group. Usually I get 140 miles or so before hitting reserve, and no one seemed to mind stopping to let me tank up every 100 miles. I'm sure I'll have more observations after I press Submit. But mainly, I just want to say that I am exceedingly happy with how the bike performed on the trip.
  8. I had a 99 Venture from 99 to 2003. It was by far the most comfortable bike for putting the miles on of any I have owned. I currently have an 01 Kaw Vulcan 1500. It's nice for shorter rides but doesn't fit me as well as the RSV did. I traded the RSV in 2003 because I got tired of always having a fairing in front of me. Of course then they had to go and come out with the new tour deluxe shortly after that! I am looking into the RSTD in the future, but I wonder if it would be as comfortable as the Venture. Part of what I liked about the Venture was it's seat. The RSTD uses a different seat. I know the seat could probably be swapped fairly easiliy. Is there any other difference in suspension or seating position between the bikes?
  9. At the first of the summer I bought a Road Star and I like that bike! But... I bought a Venture a few months ago for 2 up riding. The more I ride the Venture the more I want a RSTD (or older 2nd Gen Venture) for an everyday bike. Sooo, I posted the Road Star in the classifieds. If someone out there has a RSTD that is just too tall for them then you'll love the low seat height and handling of a Road Star. I still want a Roadie but three bikes in the garage would be too many right now.
  10. RSTD original windshield for sale, lowered 4 " from stock. Excellent condition, with lower wind deflectors. $100 plus shipping.
  11. Can anyone recomend a 3 piece windshiels for a 2006 RSTD with the stock windshield?
  12. In shopping for a used saddle bag on ebay for my 05' RSTD I find a few for the Venture. Are they the same as the RSTD? I am looking for a right hand bag. Really just need the tub as all the rest of the parts are still good. Just not sure if they are the same size since the Venture is much more outfitted. Are there any major differences in various years? Thanks.
  13. Yamaha has released the 2009 RSV and RSTD models and not a dam thing has changed. No upgrade in the sound system, no FI, no increase in HP etc.. Oh well I guess I'll be keeping my 2006 RSTD with the newly purchased mustang seat..
  14. Hi All...newbie here. Just purchased an '05 RSTD and, for the most part, I love it. However, I'm just a shade under six feet and I'm getting buffeted pretty bad from wind. Are there taller windshields available for the RSTD? P.S. Yes...I did use the search function, but did not find a satisfactory answer. Thanks in advance! Fortygeek
  15. Can the Venture's seat be used on the newer RSTD's?
  16. I'm looking for a back rest that will go with a 06 RSTD stock seat.. I know the mustang seats are good but I didn't want to spend 600+ for one. "Unless I don't have a choice" Anyone have or know of a Back rest for the RSTD ?? Thanks In advance
  17. Has anyone out there have a computer copy of a RSTD service Manuel. I have the one for the venture but have a buddy that has a RSTD. :Venture::Venture:
  18. Does anybody know of a web page or a source of any kind where I can find a trailer I can tow on my RSTD. Thanks,
  19. I stopped by I-90 Yamaha in Issaquah, Wa. this afternoon. Offered me a left over 2006 RSTD, for $12,000, plus $495 Set up and sales tax. Black !! I just happened to see it there on my way to the parts counter, and stopped to eye ball it, and guess what? the Salesman showed up, with that quick offer. Hmmm ??
  20. Hello all - I did a quick search/read but am still a bit unsure. Are there risers available for a 2006 RSTD?
  21. The wide grip bars are playing hell on my neck. Does anyone have any recomendations for a narrower set of bars that won't affect performance? I was wondering if a set of Venture bars would work? Any ideas?
  22. About six weeks ago I took a test ride on a 2006 RSTD that had about 6k miles on it. That same day I rode a Victory Vision and a Triumph Rocket III Touring. One thing that I noticed was how the shifting on the Victory and the Triumph felt like the H-D's I've had... a hard clunk in first and even going into the higher gears. The RSTD felt smoother, like my Road Star. I bought a 2007 Venture 2 weeks ago and the tranny feels more like the other bikes than the RSTD. In fact, my wife thought there was a problem with the bike because of the hard "clunks" every time I change gears. Is this normal for the Venture and not the RSTD or is it normal for both and I just happened to ride an odd one? I also posted this in another forum hoping to get enough replies to know if this is normal on this bike. Thanks!
  23. Hey, I recently purchased my 08 RSTD and I would like to add some extra brake lights to the bike. The problem is I cant really decide where or what kind I want to go with. I have the wrap around saddle bag guards on the bike. If you could please give me some suggestions and pics of what you have done if you have them. Also has anyone installed a headlight pulsator on there RSTD would like to know how well that works. Thanks to all!
  24. It's true... I solved the chirping noise today. After having the I basket installed and going rounds with Yamaha Customer Service over the lack of a fix for the RSTD... I did away with the nasty chirp once and for all. I traded the RSTD for a M109R. I just couldn't take the noise that the RSTD put out. It was the noisiest bike I ever owned.. had about every harmonic in the human hearing range. Too bad too as the comfort of the bike was superb. Anyway... I will be posting a OEM luggage rack and possibly a couple other things I scuttled off the bike before trading it. This forum is awesome and proved very helpful with maintaining my 06 Deluxe. Cheers! And ride safe.... Emack
  25. I was just on the Star page and saw the new 1649cc fuel injected V-4. Does anybody think these new powerplants will find there way in next years RSTD and Ventures?
