1. Went and had my new front tire installed at a shop yesterday. When I pulled my bike with leaning sidecar around to the shop the mechanics facial expression was ....interesting (shall we say). When he finished he took the bike down the road. This raises the question: Why? I have never had anyone take my bike (or my car) down the road after changing tires, I can see why they would but am wondering if this was more the result of the guy taking the opportunity to ride my rig (remember the facial expression). The problem is that my 3/4 helmet was laying on the passenger seat and he assumed it was tied down :confused07: . Helmet went flying down the road at whatever speed, visor scratched up, rear vent is flat out gone, scuff marks all over the shell with some serious abrasions on the back. Helmet was only about a year old and though it wasn't the most expensive one, it had never been dropped and had no scuffs period. I am at a loss on what to do with this. In short: is it normal for a shop to take a bike out after a (front) tire change? What if anything does the shop owe me for the helmet?
2. Heading to Montreal today for the annual BRP world dealer meeting and festivities for the next 8 days. I'm especially looking forward to spending some time on a Can Am Roadster to see how it rides versus a traditional trike, as well as riding some of the new Victory models. The weather is supposed to be pretty good, so I think the rides will be nice. Wish I had the time to do a Venture road trip up there, but I'm stuck with Delta airlines instead. I'll let y'all know what I think of their new equipment. Au revois.....
3. A friend told me last night that 86% of the HD's manufactured since 1991 are still on the road. I thought that was amazing.
4. A certain fellow left his key/headlight on while we where stuffing our self's with fish. Man that fish was good .... And so was the big laugh we all had afterwards, it was not so much as what happened, but at what was said in the crowd that was willing to help push and give jumps from a Harley Road King... Sorry, but can not help it.
5. My riding season was cut short last Saturday in Woodstock, Illinois by a 71 yr old cager that didnt see me. The accident happened on Illinois 176 in Woodstock. How he didnt see me is a mystery even to the police. I was heading east and he was heading west. He went to turn left and caught the back end of my Venture which apparently caused me to wabble before launching me into the air and onto the pavement. I do not remember a thing from the night before through the following afternoon. Injuries to me were a broken collar bone, broken rib, bruised lung,7 staples to the right side of my head, severe concussion, bruised hip and a whole lotta road rash. Lucky to be alive as I was not wearing a helmet. Damage to bike is unknown right now. It was towed to a shop today for an estimate. I can only be thankful that I was alone on that ride. Hope to be healed and riding again by the fall. Stay safe and enjoy the summer everyone. I'll catch up with y'all down the road. Kevin
6. I just saw this about clearing the snow from the Going to the Sun Highway in Glacier Natl Park. The pic was taken 2 days ago, it looks like they have a long way to go to get the road passable, my ride through there less than a month might not happen..... Flikr seems to be having some issues allowing the preview pic to load, but just click the heading in the blue above the black video frame to have a look. There are several pics in there that make you realize just how much snow falls thathigh in the mountain passes, wow! 7. This will go on my MP3 player and get lots of listens while I'm on the road. the first new Gillian Welch release in 7 years The album is online at NPR http://www.npr.org/2011/06/26/137346722/first-listen-gillian-welch-the-harrow-and-the-harvest
8. I've been wondering lately on what the road conditions over Beartooth Pass would be like for the Rally in Cody. With all the weather they've been getting, and BT always being dicey, I thought it still might be snowed in. Not so. The highway is actually open thanks the the various agencies responsible for road up keep. It might be a tad cold and it would be a good idea to bring your cold weather gear. It even got a little nippy on top in '09. Here's the site for up-to-date reports. BEERTOOTH Looks like it'll dry out by late July. :cody
9. I am thinking of selling my 1996 RSTC and buying a 1999 Road Star. I would be gaining 3 years. 300cc's and the Road Star has 15,000 less miles. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for when I check out this bike?
10. Heading up to Branson MO on Friday...really don't like the traffic going through Austin. Is it worth taking the toll road that goes around Austin? Does anyone know how much it would cost if you got on the first opportunity (from San Antonio) and staying on all the way to where it joins up again with I35? we will be riding the bike, pulling a trailer. appreciate any help you can offer.
11. Went to my sons Graduation today, and we were so happy for him. Matthew decided to take the wrong road early in High school but he has decided to get back on the right road. At 21 is now taking courses to up grade his education with hopes to get into University but if he does not make it he will be happy to attend college. We are proud of him and hope he does well. Brad
12. Speaking of karmA. Had a friend in hospital so went to check on him after work. I decided to do some wandering on the way home. Went down a road middle of nowhere that I take to go down memory lane. Houses have went down hill since I was in high school 30 years ago. Anyway, I came across this little guy, could not of been 5 years old with his tiny 4 wheel atv idling and stuck front wheels inthe ditch. He was even wearing a full face helmet, yanking on the back of it trying to get it out. Centrifugal clutch he was fighting the engine. He would yank back and it would just pull itself back on the ditch. I shutdown and asked if he would like some help, he nodded. I lifted the whole back end in the air and ask him which way he wanted it pointed. Sat it down and held it while he got on. He zipped off back into his yard merrily doing his laps around the house. You know what, the little guy didn't even wave Bob Marshall, il

Solace

http://www.theusatrailerstore.com/motorcycle-trailer-and-hitch/solace-a-pull-behind-motorcycle-camper-trailer/ Very similar to the time out but about a grand cheaper. Anyone looked at them? Their warehouse is only about 101 miles away. I may make a road trip and check them out. I sent them a message to make sure they have a showroom. I'm sure they do.
14. Just wondering how or if you all manage to get your bike on the lift by yourself. I had my daughter to help me as I road the bike up on the lift. I first set two milk crates beside the lift, one on each side, then road up and used these to set my feet upon when I stopped. Then my daughter tightened the clamp on the front tire and also helped get the paint can and short piece 2x4 under my side stand. Surely, or is there a better way, and maybe a safer way of doing this by myself ???? The lift is from Harbor Freight item number 91764, the red one. :confused24: Fuzzy
15. Had a guy on a Harley pass us today. We were on a long, straight stretch, 2-lane hwy. He was behind us and I knew he was gonna pass. I was riding in right groove of the lane, allowing him better visibility ahead. Soon as the road ahead was clear, he passed... but unlike what I expected and what most anyone else would do, he didn't move over the centre line.... passed us in the left groove on our side of the road .... now why on earth would he have done that but for nothing else than to show off his noisy, fast (not) Harley. I had a good mind to gun it and leave him in a cloud of Yamadust.
16. I have my buddy's bike in the garage to do a clutch overhaul.. riding his bike over here, I noticed how much more agile his bike is compared to mine.. Keep in mind I had thought to have blown my Works shock on the last road trip but turned out to be only in need of adjustment.. Who would have thought the roads here in Nova Scotia were nicer than down in the USA? I had hit a huge divot of a hole on the interstate that threw me up out of the seat and the handling went to hell after that. An adjustment to the rebound on the road fixed most of it, and adjusting the preload when I got home brought the bike back to normal, so all is good there.. However, as mentioned before, I thought my bike handled nimbly but his bike is much more nimble than mine.. The only difference is that I have the Works shock and his has the stock OEM shock.. When I measured the rear of the bikes, at the rear corner of the right saddle bag, with the handle bars turned all the way over, and on level ground in the garage, my bike sits 1 inch taller than his at this point.. We both have leveling links installed. Does the Works shock and leveling links affect each other? I'm curious if the leveling links has my bike a little too tall now and affecting the handling a bit.. If I were to go back to OEM links, would it make a difference in the positive? Anyone else with a Works shock notice this?
17. Well, I am kinda thinking about another bike. i love the 86 Venture and would keep it, but I found a NEW 08 RSTD near Seattle for $9800 {craigslist} at a dealer. I also found an 08 Road Star 1700 in Victoria with lots of extras for about the same price. Opinions on the Road Star? it is fuel inj, has belt drive {less mntc and no lash } How do they handle vs the RSTD or the RSV? I think they have less HP but lots of torque with the V-twin......Help! Thanks, Gary sorry, make the header read RoadStar 1700.......
18. Dose anyone use a steering damper on their trike? The steering on the trike I'm building seems loose(easy to turn) thinking it may give me a wobble at speed or in turns. Have not road tested yet, working on fairings & paint Thinking I may need a damper.Looking for ideas. Thanks (work in progress) :canada:
19. Looking for a Corbin for 06RSV. Road on one yesterday and loved it.
20. We have another one trying for the title here. We had one a year or so ago running 142 mph on West Dodge, our main run through the city, (in dress clothes) because he was late to work. This guy beat his speed on I-680 which runs through Omaha and in the middle of the day. We have had two riders die in the last week killed in single bike accidents on the Interstate in the city from losing control. I always look forward to being on the road with these folks. I got a kick out the the way the article states that he had been "lodged" at the DC jail. They left a light on for him. OMAHA, Neb. -- The Nebraska State Patrol said it has arrested a man who was riding a motorcycle 88 miles above the posted speed limit. Around 1 p.m. Thursday, authorities said, troopers were conducting traffic patrol near Interstate 680 and Maple Street when 27-year-old David Oien rode by going 148 mph. With the help of the patrol's aviation division, authorities found Oien had stopped near I-680 and Irvington Road. Troopers said he was taken into custody without incident. Officials said Oien was arrested and lodged in the Douglas County Jail on charges of felony flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, driving under suspension, no registration and speeding.
21. This Thursday starts our 17 to 18 day cross country run on the RSTD (Tybee Island Lighthouse near Savannah, GA to Fishermans Wharf in San Francisco and back). Thanks so much to everyone who chimed in on my prep thread, I feel good about the state of the bike (and her riders). We have been talking about this trip for so long that it feels very strange that we launch this week. Eating better and working out I have lost 35 pounds prepping for the ride and my wife has lost almost 30, we have been riding in the heat and living without A/C because we know TX, AZ, NM have the potential to be brutal. (my daughter who is not going, cannot wait until we go out the door to crank down the temps). We have done back to back long days and worked on our navigation I picked up a SPOT messenger and will post a link once I set up the trip map in case anyone wants to follow along. We may see you along the road, we may see you at the DQ Either way we will wave and smile.
22. I am looking to put a audio system on my 2005 RSTD. I am not sure how many watts the bike can handle. I would like something that can drowned out the noisy Harleys that are on the road. I figure a 850 watt system should do that:rotf:. Does anyone have any suggestions:confused24:? I apperciate any suggestions and or pictures.
23. I've never used the CB in the 2 years I've owned the RSV and haven't used one in a vehicle since the 70s. In about a month I'm taking 3700 mile trip and thought I might want to use it for road and weather conditions. So do MC riders have a channel they monitor or do you have to put up with all the trucker chatter interrupting my music?
24. Interesting ride in the last two days, part of my ride to work takes me down a fairly busy two lane raod. Well yesterday a lady in a Dodge Nitro decided she wanted to pass me on the right because she could not pass on the left due to oncoming traffic she did not succed but about ran me over when the road went to four lane. You would think this would be a uncommon occurence think again a guy in a pickup truck was tailgating me halfway up the road this morning then decideds he is coming around thankfully I was able to squeeze over enough for him not to hit me or go into oncoming traffic. I stopped behind him at the traffic light and took a picture of his license plate and the big Faternal Order of Police Bumper stick, don't have aclue what I was planning on doing with the picture but it shook him up some. Just needed to vent Thanks
25. I know everyone who has chenged thier bars here says the way to go is that flanders bars. Due to the lack of available expendable fund I will have to wait months. The other option is toi find nice bars on ebay and get them in a week. I have been looking at road king and a few royal star bars. Better pull back and wider as well. has anyone tried road king bars, There is one I am looking at which does not have the knurled mounthing sections in the middle. is this necessary on our bikes for secure mouning or can i mount smooth handle bars? i have 3 on watched list on ebay right now so I am looking for the jury before purchasing. I can get one of these for $40 with shipping, hope I can go this route and save some cah while enjoying my ride some more.
