  1. Last year while riding the squelch on my CB quit working.Turning the squelch knob has no effect. Now when riding I have to either listen to radio or CB. If i turn on CB it over rides radio. Took CB out and checked all connections. Took bottom plate off CB to check internal connections all seemed good. Any ideas before I have to bite the bullet and buy another CB?
  2. I was honored this morning to attend the retirement ceremony for Sargeant First Class Wilkinson, known to us here as SapperMedic. He leaves the U.S. Army after 25 years of service as a Combat Medic. Wilkie- thanks for your years of service and I hope you enjoy your riding season this year. I miss seeing your 1986 parked around the corner. Mocha is going to feel lonely when I get back to riding. JB
  3. i ride every saturday and sunday morning during riding season with a couple of local members. i would like to get a big group of members together for the riding season who would like to get together and do early morning rides on the weekends in my area. kind of like a local chapter of venturerrider.org. this inludes all you lurkers that are still on the fence. the rides will start very early in the morning like a meeting time of 6am on sat. and sun. and would be from 100 to 200 miles. depending on what every one agrees on. i live in the st. charles area next to st. louis. if anyone is interested pm me with all your stats like where you are and i will put you on my list. i am dead serious about this cuz i almost live on my bike. so come out of your closet and join us. bill :clap2: ps. speaking of lurkers on the fence, dive in and join the fun. you won't regret it.
  4. met up with mo river rat (chris), this morning for coffee. a really nice guy and a real biker. he lives about 3 miles from me, so wrongway (allanh), and i have a new riding partner. now we just need some warm weather. bill
  5. Don sent me a very nice note the other day and it cause a guilt pain that I haven't been on in so long. Last year started with meeting all of you and getting some great tips for my Venture and making a bunch of new friends. June came and work pressures made me miss Maintenance day and meeting some of you, but I did get to meet my borther from another monther Mariner Fan, ol danob11 on some others on summer riders. We took our big trip up to Canada and in July and in Ste Saint Maire, MI I met the world famous Gentlemen George and got to see him perform in the park. I still say this is one of the best internet communities I have come across on the internet, absolutelty GREAT PEOPLE. Shortly after that we aquired a new company in Cincinnati and the workload piled on, so lots of travel and not much more riding got done. I also started a side Videograpahy business and that keep most of the free weekends occupied. So hasn't been much time for surfing the web or riding. There was one unexpectedly warm day in December and I just got my new HD camera, so we took a little ride and I used the day to feel the wind and experiment with the new camera. So that was our last real ride of the year, and man am I jones'n to ride. If the video below is jerky, click the HD on and turn if off and it should scroll out better. [ame=http://www.vimeo.com/2155865]Eat to Ride, Ride to Eat on Vimeo[/ame] 3 Weeks ago at a video shoot for a band I took an unexpected step off a stage and tore my Achilles Tendon in half and had to have it put back together. So that has finally slowed me down a bit, and allowed me to get on here and catch up with my VR Family and friends. So don't know what this season holds (I hope more riding), but I look forward to corssing some more of your paths, seeing some old friends and hopefully making Maintenance day this year!! God bless and everyone ride safe! Curt, Deb & Carson
  6. The hubby and I usually start riding when the temp's hit 35-40 degrees. Forecast say's 41 for today through next Tues, but with this much snow, I doubt it will feel like that going 60 mph. Problem is, we've got a long driveway and a lot of snow. If we could just get the bike down to the road, we'd be fine! At least the blood's starting to pump again just thinking about riding again. I don't know about you...but I've been in a schlump since last November. It's been a long winter and it's time to get back on again and soon!
  7. After having nightmares and backaches about the OEM seat, an angel sent me a mustang seat with a drivers back rest. It arrived yesterday, immediately put it on removed the passenger seat, sissy bar, windshield and took it up to Virgina City after bundling up I felt the metal inside my thighs and the smoothness of this 4 cyl direct drive machine.. all because this mustang seat moved me up abit and let me be seated in rather than on the bike. I am in love with riding the mountains again I'm 6'2" and this bikes reminds me now why I dropped the KLT and brings me back to the golden olden days of Norton Commando, Airhead but with comfort and reliability L'chaim
  8. I found a couple of vids on youtube taken in and around Nelson BC where the Kruisn the Kootenays Rally is going on in July 2009. I thought it might be good to give everyone a look at the scenery and roads we will be riding on. Youre all invited to come on out and enjoy!! more info at http://24.72.54.92/kruisnthekootenays.htm [ame= ] [/ame] [ame= ] [/ame] [ame= ] [/ame]
  9. Hey All: no riding today here in southwest ohio, it is 6:15AM and already have 3-4 inches of the white stuff and predicting 4-6in more today. Can't ride today so all you who live south and warmer climate are soooo blessed to be able to ride everyday!!! I am indeed JEALOUS!!!!! Have A GREAT DAY!! Brian D.
  10. I know we do alot of bragging down here in the sunny south about our twelve month riding season. But, the truth of the matter is that since November our weather in Atlanta has pretty much sucked, at least for riding. If it wasn't raining (which we despertly needed) it's been pretty cold. Not as cold as some of you but cold enough to keep the bike parked. I'm at a loss to understand how some you in the colder climates tolerate the winters but down here, we don't do well with the cold and Cabin Fever can be a real concern. Expressing my concerns about my mental health due to cabin fever to Blackjack, he suggested a ride on Friday which was projected as a decent riding day. Mostly sunny with a high temp of 65. Friday also happened to be the opening day of the Great American Motorcycle Show being held here in Atlanta, this weekend. So we agreed on a time and place to meet and took a short but pleasant ride to attend the opening of the show. One of his neighbors/Goldwing buddies, Ken, who has also attended several N. Ga. M&E's, also made it in time to be there with us when the doors opened. We spent the afternoon walking the show which overall was the same as last year's and all the years before. But, we still had a good time and I took a few pictures to share.
  11. 85 Years Young, And She Is Still Loves Riding. Last summer I was honoured and privileged to take her for one more ride. It absolutely made my day when she asked if she could go for a ride. She said her first time riding was during the war when she was a nurse. Hopefully she will still ride with me again this summer. Sometime you need to take a lesson from someone with wisdom and experience. She taught me you’re never too old to enjoy life. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/album.php?u=6421
  12. Well I decided to try and keep the RSV instead of people trying to get something for nothing. It sometimes seems that when people get into a fix they should get something for nothing. I cut my price down as low as I will go but for some people its not enough so I decided to keep my RSV. However we thank you for all the comments and suggestions. Hope we can see everyone this riding season.. Thanks,Joe
  13. A friend of ours are planning a trip to Florida in February. They are trailering there bikes down and plan on a week long tour. They could use a place to park a truck and trailer, while they enjoy the riding. If anyone has room in there driveway to store a truck and trailer and would be willing to help out let me know. Thanks Brad
  14. Well, I got the 84 starting and running nicely now, so I need to put it all back together. Time to find an instrument cluster and working on paint. Thanks for all the help and encouragement (and parts!) to this point. Now if any of you have any anti-burnout, I can use it so I get this thing up before riding weather comes.
  15. I have been watching this on the Speed Channel and the 1st hour was about riding around Quebec. It is with Dennis Gage, his son and another rider named Niele. There is some very good scenery and watching the riding makes my PMS swell up big time. The next show, which is on now, they are riding around Scotland. This sure does make me want to take a couple day ride around some place interesting. RandyA
  16. I've been a member since May of 2008 and somewhere between then, someone posted a thread on a women's black, mesh riding jacket. I ordered one and I love it. Now I have 2 friends that want one. I have no info or receipt. The tag says www.power-trip.com but when I went to the website, that doesn't look familiar, and I didn't see the one I have. I know that the cost was really low, around $35.00 plus shipping and I remember that they normally cost around $200.00. It also has the removable armour. When I did a search in "riding accessories, the only thread I found was from 06, so I know that's not the one. Can anyone help me out? Thanks Deb
  17. Since getting the RSV at thanksgiving the wife and I have been trying really hard to catch one good day to put a few miles on it. Well, today the temp was in the low 60's but kinda hazy and everything is wet. We hit a couple of places on the road that looked really smooth, and slick. When I hit these areas the bike felt like I was riding on ice. I knew I needed to replace the front tire but now I'm thinking I need to put new rubber on the back to. I'm talking, it felt REALLY SQUIRRLY!!!! From most of what I've read on here, the Avon Venoms are the recommended tire. How about wear? What kind of mileage can I expect to get out of the rear? Any other recommendations would be appreciated.
  18. Well I broke it!!! I changed out friction plates on the clutch on the '87 Venture and lined up the double notches on the clutch boss and put every thing back together the way it came off and after riding it everything was smooth untill it came time to find neutral and it jumped to 2nd. I kept trying to find neutrol untill the housing that holds the shift shaft broke. I have two questions. What would cause the scoot to have a hard to find neutrol after the clutch change and where can I find a new/used housing. I have brought the scoot with me (back of truck) along with the family to SW Florida to do some riding this week and am bummed. Any ideas? Please help with some feedback. Thanks a bunch you guys!!!!
  19. anyone planning on riding on the 1st? went for a ride today high was 45 felt colder than that. only seen one other bike out besides mine.
  20. Is any one a member of Star Touring & Riding ? If so could you tell me about it. Thank you.
  21. Thanks for the welcome y'all. I hail from "sunny" NW - Port Angeles, WA - great riding country just always pack your wet gear. ALWAYS looking for riding bud's and will join most any road trip, especially fond of the really important one's - like that 800 mile round trip for the BEST ribs on the planet in Spokane, WA out by the old Air Force air strip. Hobby in the winter is scouring Craig's list, and other venues for the older, classic or soon to be classic rides for those fixer bikes, bringing them home to my shop and giving them a new life. The rest of my time is spent fishing and riding. Give me a shout, let's go for a ride or hook up in the shop and skin some knuckles. 22. A lot of us have this video. A lot of us talk about watching the video. A lot of us recommend this video. But I never hear of anyone talking about their experiences trying these exercises. I've been on a handful of rides with others, and I don't get the impression that very many of us are actually practicing these. Is anyone actually getting out and trying this stuff? Let's hear some other's experiences. Today is the first really warm day we've had around here. We could ride around without feeling cold, and come back home and still not feel cold. I've been riding my bike for a couple weeks now. But Lori hasn't been on her bike for six months. She gave up early last fall. Over the winter I acquired a few old tennis balls from a tennis teacher friend of mine to cut in half and use for cones. So today Lori and I went to a parking lot and tried a few of these. I've been riding street bikes, dirt bikes, and three wheelers for the past 24 or so years, and I consider myself a relatively decent rider. Dirt bike experience definitely helps a lot in street riding skills. Even so I would have admitted that I could use some improvement in my low speed handling skills. But good grief. In my very first attempt at this, I felt like I was trying to drive a semi truck and trailer through a miniature golf course. The pros in the video sure make it look a lot easier than this. I got better pretty quick though. Not the best, but a lot better. Lori was doing pretty well too, especially for her first ride of the year. We only got through exercises 2 and 3 though. It was really quite a lot of fun. All we could do was laugh when we messed up and didn't do something right. Success, in that neither of us dumped our bikes either. I'm looking forward to getting out and doing some more of these again. Are some you getting out and trying these? Let's hear how you're doing.
  23. DECEMBER 27: Corner of Al 225 and Al 59 . I65 N from Al 59 or I 65 N at Al 225 or Al 59 South from Al 21 at Uriah, Al. Stagecoach XII is set for Saturday, December 27th at the Stagecoach Café in Stockton, Alabama around lunch time. Y'all are invited to ride down to lower Alabama and enjoy some tire kicking, tall tales, and good southern cooking provided by the friendly staff at the Stagecoach Café. There is no fee for the event, but you will need to pay for your meal and reward the friendly wait staff for their hard work. Along with the socializing, we will have four awards that will be presented to riders. The awards will be presented around 12:30 and you must be present to claim it. LONGEST DISTANCE We want to encourage long distance motorcycle riding, so there will be an award plaque for the rider that rides the longest distance on a motorcycle to the event. This is the mileage that you have ridden on the way to the Stagecoach Café since you left home. If the mileage that you claim is sorta hard to believe, be prepared to back it up with IBA type receipts. Note: The amazing Mr. Doug Graves has ridden to south Alabama from Washington state in the great NorthWet to claim this award (and participate in the tire kicking, tall tales, and good southern cooking) on a number of occasions, so if he is planning to attend this year, the rest of y'all will have your work cut out for you. OLDEST RIDER We want to encourage folks to keep riding motorcycles, so there will be a plaque for the oldest rider that RIDES a MOTORCYCLE to the event. Note: Folks on trikes are most welcome to attend, but they are not eligible for this award. OLDEST BIKE We want to encourage keeping old bikes running and on the road, so there will be a plaque for the oldest bike RIDDEN to the event. There have been some great old bikes win this award in the past. Note: riding to the event does not include trailering to the lot across the street, unloading, and riding in to the parking lot. Just saying... YOUNGEST RIDER We want to encourage new riders to learn to enjoy two wheeled adventures, so there will be a plaque for the youngest rider to RIDE to the event. NOTE: passengers are NOT eligible to win this plaque ... because we know some of y'all are sorta competitive and we don't want to see anyone strapping a newborn baby seat on their luggage rack. There is no website this year, so please pass the word and let your local riding groups know about it. Folks will be arriving during the morning and the parking lot is usually empty by 2:00 PM. The food is good, the folks are friendly, and the weather can be sorta iffy. Some years it has been really cold, some years it has been warm, but either way we hope to see y'all there. TEW47
  24. Well its the end of the riding season, and I said I would give my HD a riding season to see how I like it. Well I decided to sell it, gather my thought (and some cash) and go back to the Venture. If I'm lucky by the time I get ready buy, Yamaha will make a few positive changes and updates. If anyone is interested or knows anyone interested I've listed it on ebay with a reserve of $17,900. Item number: 260315769177
  25. I post just today about chasing Ghosts after a accident. I know I've whined about it several times on here but it was even worse than that. Every time I caught myself turning loose and riding a little bit I would tighten up again. Kept telling myself I wasn't quitting but the thought was there. Even avoided times I could have ridden this fall. And the thought was there in the back of my head. Maybe you don't want to. I rode to north Carolinia for the meet there and it wore me out instead of relaxing me like it used to. I have been tinkering with "UGLY" a little getting her right after the neglect from PV. Today I talked myself into taking her out to fill tank for winter to keep down chance of rust. As I said I have been tinkering a little and she was Purring. Filled tank and talked myself into doing a couple miles just to see how it was running. Temps around 40 and not dressed for it. Little chilly. Story is I was listening to that 1200 purr and suddenly realized I was riding pretty hot when a curve got a little tight. DID'T TIGHTEN UP!! Hit the next one a little harder. Found myself riding and laughing inside my helmet. QUIT?? Like He** I will. Oh "BROWN SUGAR"??? I Ain't hiding no more!!! Wanna Play?? You better be ready!!
