  1. Two years ago, Don gave rides to a couple of older ladies... THIS year...he's still giving rides to ladies. However, they are getting much younger now... What do you think?
  2. We love to go for rides with others but it's not always easy to hook up and arrange things. If anyone would be interested in going for a ride with us this weekend, let me know - phone and email are in my profile or just post here. By the way, I'm 46 and Mike's 43. We like to stop for breaks, have meals, enjoy the scenery. We will NOT be taking the highways. We will NOT be speeding more than 10 km over the posted limit (Mike drives for a living, ticket's not worth it). We go for rides for fun, not a speed race. (Had to say it, so many around here seem to love to ZOOOOM and we don't ) We don't smoke but I generally like to stop every hour to two hours max for at least 20 mins to a half hour. I am a morning person, though, so I like to get going early and be back by suppertime so we can feed our dogs though it's not written in stone!! We're considering leaving here around 8:30 tomorrow morning from Dartmouth then to Windsor to Berwick to Chester Basin and back, cutting through on the Aylesford Road. If anyone wants to come, let us know!!! ALL WELCOME!! WEATHER PERMITTING, of course. Here's the route: Map: http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=43+Smallwood+Avenue,+Dartmouth,+Nova+Scotia&daddr=Berwick,+Nova+Scotia+to:Aylesford+Road,+Aylesford,+NS+B0P+1C0+(Fox+Mountain+Camping+Park)+to:44.9354618,-64.7129805+to:Franey+Corner,+Nova+Scotia+to:New+Ross,+Nova+Scotia+to:Chester+Basin,+Nova+Scotia+to:44.63474,-63.66345+to:43+Smallwood+Avenue,+Dartmouth,+Nova+Scotia&geocode=FYQnqgIdix03_CnjnjS7TCRaSzF2q5K2f1ZTfw%3BFf1erwIdMjUk_CklPJOktFxYSzGcsoJT1TCJ4w%3BFQKzrQIduoEk_CFYo0Fa-YNw-Q%3BFSWprQId7I4k_Ck7LDoIO0ZYSzGZQf8JYyFT_w%3BFTR7qgIdVEgl_Ck9_psIvDJYSzHzjpqRfFG1ig%3BFfahqgIdNXgo_CmJmAsG0c5ZSzEVkpLkcUswYw%3BFTsAqAIdLbsq_ClFAxhBj9xZSzG3zNNMOZKJsA%3BFXQSqQIdppI0_Cn3CMW90yFaSzEjMdSGFCgaTg%3BFYQnqgIdix03_CnjnjS7TCRaSzF2q5K2f1ZTfw&hl=en&mra=ls&via=3,7&dirflg=h&sll=44.72332,-64.690247&sspn=1.313325,2.425232&vpsrc=0&ie=UTF8&ll=44.8325,-64.151917&spn=1.310844,2.425232&z=9
  3. Hello all riders headed to Vogel! The wife and I live and ride all the back country roads around Vogel and would like to see if anyone would be interested in having someone local take them on tour. I had taken a few with me on rides last Vogel and had great responses. I would like to keep the group no larger than five bikes for saftey. A couple of ideas for rides. Wed. ride up to Murphy then over to the Hiawasse Dam and back to Vogel. Thur. ride to Suches, up Hwy 180 then Hwy 60 to Morganton then to Mineral Bluff, Copper Hill, TN Hwy 58 up to Telico Plains Grap a subway sandwich and take it up to Bald River Falls to have a picnic. Then ride over the Cherohala Skyway into Robbinsville. Then ride over to Hwy 28 South toward Natahalla River Gorge. Ride thru the river gorge and over the Wayhla Rd to US64 toward Hayesville, NC back to Vogel. Fri. I would call it the Waterfalls ride. Taking backroads up to Hayesville, NC taking US64 all the way over to Brevard, NC up Hwy 256 and then the Blue Ridge Parkway back to Balsam, NC then US Hwy 74 . Note able we should see at least six waterfalls and make it to the highest point on the blue ridge parkway some 6,052 feet if I recall. Sat could just be a small figure eight around the Vogel, Helen, Hiawasse, Suches Area. Back in time to have a great lunch with everyone. Lets us know what you think. We sould be over by 11:00 A.M. on Wed. Sooner if need be. Thanks to the wonderful people on this site. Be safe and hope to meet some new friends & see some old ones. Brian & Sherrie Shoemaker
  4. Is there a way of searching our member listing by region/state? I live in the Pacific Northwest and would like to make contact with other members who live here for possible rides or events.
  5. If you can go to the calendar and can add what rides (rock city, ice cream run, train ride etc.) to your name ,it would be a big help...also if you plan to go to the hearth on Saturday for lunch...now ,if you are going on the rock city ride you wont be there for the hearth lunch... thanks for taking the time to do this......It make things easier for those planning the rides and to make sure we have enough for the group rates....
  6. Well me and Mrs Bubber made it home last night but I was unable to post then. Thanks to Don I am back up in running. Thanks to all that attended the Cody Rally but a big thanks go to the organizers. They made it look seamless and that is a massive feat. Thanks guys and gals! Good to see friends made at Pork in the Pines. and great to meet up with new and future friends. What a great time I had meeting and yakking with all of you. Great rides, new friends, great food, what else could a guy want or need? Oh ya Thanks to the people of Cody, very nice people and always willing to help. Thanks Tom for leading the way up to Yellowstone, Chief Joesph Hy Way and Bear-tooth Pass. We don't have that kind of riding in Minnesota. What great rides and great company. Sorry we didn't get a chance to meet up with OB-1 on the way out or on the way back, we will meet up again my friend. Wow the cooks or chiefs were fantastic. another great meal had by all. Well I am getting to long winded here, just want everyone to know that it was my pleasure meeting you and I hope you has as good a time as I did. Just sorry it is over. :crying: Bubber
  7. Froggy said to expect more aches and pain in the 40's. I didn't plain on gall bladder surgery and a hurt back in the same year within a couple months. Fell on June 1st at work and hurt my back (top, middle and lower). Still off work. Still some pain. Been going to the chiropractor. No Bike rides for us so far this year.:bawling:Hard for me not to do things I see that need done.
  8. Heading to Montreal today for the annual BRP world dealer meeting and festivities for the next 8 days. I'm especially looking forward to spending some time on a Can Am Roadster to see how it rides versus a traditional trike, as well as riding some of the new Victory models. The weather is supposed to be pretty good, so I think the rides will be nice. Wish I had the time to do a Venture road trip up there, but I'm stuck with Delta airlines instead. I'll let y'all know what I think of their new equipment. Au revois.....
  9. Hey, any tire pros, A Harley friend (Heritage) has asked me a question. I'm guessing she has HD Dunlop 404. She rides local and even did SC to CA last year, so she rides! Your input might help her. I've had so many problems with my front tire. Riding back and forth to work I heard a lot of road noise. New tire, this must be usual! After looking at the tire I noticed the rotation was going the wrong way. So now I need to know whether I should leave the tire as it is or do I have SOMEONE fix the issue. My main question is will the tire seperate like a car tire if you rotate it wrong? This is my front tire and I'm a bit WORRIED. I don't want to be going 80 mph and have a blow out. Thanks EVERYONE. Deb Thanks in advance, Mike G in SC
  10. Wondering if anyone here is taking 1st Gen Ventures on lond distance rides... and how long. I see/hear about newer bikes on long rides, but I haven't really of the 1st Gens.
  11. So, Tom called me from work and said the battery on the 86 Royale was dead. He claims he didn't leave the key in it or on, that he locks the forks. So, I have some questions, does this bike have an alternator or the equiv? Where is the battery? I don't want to start taking body panels off to find it and I have not found battery location in the manual yet (searching on the computer is tedious). I'll be getting his bike a battery tender, as he uses the radio every time he rides and if the BRAND NEW battery isn't holding up there is either something draining it slowly or it isn't charging when he rides. Thanks! PS, my 16 year old daughter just completed an MSF course this weekend. The instructor said she is the most aggressive girl he has ever taught. She did very well, passed, and I didn't even have heart palpitations watching her! Which is big for me.

    VR App

I just got a smart phone and noticed that there is an app for the Venture Rides site. What does this app do for browsing VR site? Thanks
  13. this bike has been parked next to me at work for the last few days, havn`t seen who rides it, but this thing is clean, not sure of the year, so maybe one of ya`ll can add to this..
  14. DO any of you take part in LD Rides and Rallies? If so, which. What are your favourites? Which ones have you planned this year? Do we have any Iron Butt Rally 2011 entrants here? For my own part, I have one SaddleSore 1000 under my butt, done this year on the Triple. Probably one more this summer.
  15. had a 150+ mile day. Lunch with an old friend and her hubby. She rides her own Virgo, while hubby and new friends ride HDs. http://www.motorcycleroads.com/routes/SouthEast/MS/MS_5.shtml
  16. Guys and girls we may have a new NY member shortly. He rides a Harley so I told him you guys would be nice to him and ride a little slow so we didn't lose him on the rides. He rode with us last year on the fingerlakes ride but headed home in PenYan. Remember BIg Tom play nice.
  17. the 2011 meramec state park meet is now listed for sept. 8th, thru the 10th, 2011 on the calender and regional rides and rallies. check it out.
  18. Ok just bought a 2005 RSTD so what is the best money spent for a comm system. Needs to work with driver/passenger, driver to other driver and ability to connect to a cell phone for long rides. Willing to pay a finders fee, ok well maybe just send you chocolate chip cookies in the mail. No guarrenty that they will get to you.
  19. We are planning to attend Americade this year, the week after Freebird's maintenance day. After checking out the registration form on line, I'm a little confused and undecided. http://store.tourexpo.com/productcart/pc/home.asp Wondering if someone who has been there and done that can advise us on how to do it. Is the full registration worth it? How about the organized rides? Seems like all the rides etc. cost extra $$$. Is it better just to pay to get into the trade show and go on our own rides? I don't mind paying the fees if they are worth it. Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
  20. Has anyone purchased a different seat that was made for a taller rider? Mine is not comfortable on long rides . I would like to be higher and able to scoot back further. dave
  21. Going to be at Branson for 4-5 days for a reunion with some old military friends. We are going to ride the bike up that way...my question, what are some good rides around that area? I know it is a beautiful area...just want to make sure we make good use of our time.
  22. I searched for Missouri in hopes it would yield some members close to me, but did not that I could find. I am in North East Missouri. New London specifically, Hannibal is my neighboring town most are familiar with. Looking forward to some nice rides with my wife this year. Would be great to ride along with some other Venture riders.
  23. Getting new shoes on the RSV tomorrow, and the "2011 Tour" is really shaping up to be a good one! Departing the ATL on: ~ Feb 25 - Palm Beach FL - 6 days ~ March 5 - Daytona Bike Week - 7 days ~ May 26 - Washington DC (Rolling Thunder) - 5 days ~ June 10 - Dayton OH - 4 days ~ June 23 - White Sulpher Springs, WVA - 5 days ~ Sept 8 - Philly PA (for 9/11 memorial) - 6 days Not sure how many miles that is, but it's more than I've done in a long time in one calendar year, not including the weekly 200 - 300 mile rides we do to the mountains from March through November, and all of the other shorter rides with the PGR and WWR. 2011 is gonna be a great year. It has to be, cause 2010 sucked! So when is the N. GA maintenance day???
  24. zooer

    Holy crap!

Wow, I got two rides in today! It warmed up over 40 F. After the past two weeks that called for rides. :cool10: Hope some of ya's were as lucky.
  25. I travel to work day in and day on my 05RSTD! I'm only grounded during ice on the road otherwise rain, snow, or heat doesn't matter I'm riding. Like my old Sergeant use to say "There is no such thing as a rusty Ranger!" Just curious on who also rides all year and how far north do you live? The Maine picture was where I lived as a kid in Loring AFB, Maine. Actually did not ride then.
