1. Had a nice short last ride for the year today, tomorrow I will be having carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand, also wont be back to work till mid or end of Jan. Perfect time for some paid time off, never had this much time off at Christmas time. Surgery at 7:00 am tomorrow morning (Monday), will be home by 9:30/10:30 am, I cant believe how fast they do them now, when I had my right hand done back in 2005, I was at the hospital for at least 1/2 a day. This will give me a taste of retirement...........looking forward to it.
2. It was a great day to get out and ride. Sunshine and temperature in the mid 60's and sure was nice to feel the wind in my toes....
3. http://www.noob.us/entertainment/best-alpine-coaster-ever/
4. i know i don't have what it takes to ride this........how about you ? [ame=http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/82031764/]Alpine Coaster Video[/ame]
5. I just couldnt beleive this sled and rider on this mountain climb ride. WOW http://www.zapiks.fr/share/player.swf?file=50284
6. I dont post often, but its not because I'm shy... I just haven't had the ability to get on the net very often, until just recently that is. Now I log on daily from here and make more plans to upgrade my "finished VR" Right now at home there are several boxes with more parts.... Someone told me a while ago that I would never "finish my ride" They don't know how right they were. Almost everything done to this ride, i got the idea or the information I needed from this forum. Brief history of my 1986 Venture Royale I purchased this from a younger kid in 2000. The bike had 36,000 miles on it and ran fine but was beat up from being dropped and abused. Since then I have completely stripped it down to the frame, set valves, replaced and rebuilt the carbs, polished and cleaned and painted the engine parts. Replaced Chrome Removed the fuel tank and had it lined. replaced tires and brakes, rebuilt the master cylinders. Repaired various wiring cass system, and re soldered the computer in the dash. Added Jardine pipes. Added a gel battery. Replaced a lot of the plastic and repaired the rest. Repainted it in its current colors. I thought I was done.... I am gone a lot and this took several years to complete. Then I started reading here. Now sitting at home are the parts to upgrade the fuse box, progressive springs for the forks along with the upgrade fork brace. I purchased a new aftermarket CDI to install. I plan to upgrade the starter and cables. I am sure there is more I will find to do. Someday I may even get the chance to ride this thing. I think in the last two years it has about 18 miles put on it. Anyway, the reason for this post. THANK YOU! to everyone that helped even though you didn't realize it most of the time.!!! rjjammer
7. Well, my membership has expired and sadly it is time to say goodbye. About a month ago I traded my Venture in on a 2012 Cross Country Tour. But first a few honest and sincere comments before I leave. I'll talk about this site and the valuable information on it first... Having 3 sites of my own, I know the hard work it takes to run a website like this and Don has done a FANTASTIC job of knowing when to step in and when to let things alone. The site is nicely done...and frankly I was very hesitant about "joining" a site that charged to be a member. Little did I know then that the information and camaraderie on this site was WELL WORTH the $12 per year that was asked (and yes, it is moderately expensive to run a website). I was a member of the VTX site before this site and they were pretty good...but I had no idea how "ordinary" the site was until I became a member here. Don and YOU MEMBERS are extremely helpful, understanding and caring about the other members of this site. I hope I was able to considered a part of that the short time (2 years) I was here. No smart alecks (or at least not the bad kind:rotf:), there were no rude people and there were no people that talked down to any other members (at least what I was able to see). I saw this all the time on a HD forum I was a member of (thought about a Harley for awhile)...and to be honest there are a couple of Victory forums with attitudes also, and this makes one's experience on those forums less than ideal. But what I miss most about the new forums I am on...is the lack of KNOWLEDGE that I have found here, and the lack of fellowship also found here. THANK YOU for those two wonderful things found at Ventureriders!! OK...now to the bike. I want to be brutally honest here...the good, the bad and the ugly. I don't have an ax to grind, nor do I have any intention of bashing the Venture. I just want to share my experience. When I bought my 2009 Venture, I was very disappointed in the bike, I thought I had made a mistake in my purchase and felt that way for several months. As the months went by, I began to SLOWLY enjoy the bike more and more. Once I went on my first long ride, I was starting to REALLY like my bike...in fact, I began to love the long trips on the Venture. My last long trip was an 1100 mile 17 hour ride from Virginia to Arkansas and I LOVED MY RIDE AND TRIP!! I will always remember that ride as one of my favorite so far. But although I had really became fond of my Venture, I could not get past the handling and top heaviness of the bike, and I was also unhappy about the options of the bike. Like many here I feel that Yamaha has become frozen in time in regards to this WELL BUILT BIKE...the engine on this bike is AWESOME!! In October I went to Bikes, Blues and BBQ in Fayetteville and had actually decided to sink another $1500 into my Venture to lower the bike (a second time) by upgrading the front forks and also purchasing the Corbin seat. I went to BBB and even decided NOT to demo any bikes, even though that was a tradition for the group I was in...I finally gave in to ragging the other guys were giving me and just to please them I test rode the Victory Cross Country Tour. I knew then it was the bike for me. The Venture is a proven success! The engine is the best thing going for this bike. On the interstate, this bike rocks. But in my opinion the positives stop there for me anyway. The Victory CCT handled extremely well, it had all the amenities that you could want on a nice touring bike and finally, the bike isn't dated. So my mind was changed at BBB within 3 minutes of taking the Victory out for a ride. Yes, I will miss the durability of the Venture engine. And yes, I will DEFINITELY miss the super nice members here on this site. I can assure you that every time I visit the Victory forum... I see lots of bickering and little information. Luckily, I prefer to ride than to bicker on a motorcycle website. So again, I know the Venture is a great bike for a lot of people (especially you taller guys)...but it does seem the better fit for me is the Victory. One last thing...I did keep my CD changer and an unfinished SHORTENED kickstand that I have on eBay right now... in case anyone is looking for either one of these items. http://www.ebay.com/itm/190601124266?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649 and http://www.ebay.com/itm/190601124038?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649 Again...Don Thanks for a wonderful 2 years. I will truly miss this place. Wally Jarratt ArkieBiker

9. This has been a good fall (weather wise) for riding. At least it has been for me here in the great state of Arkansas.... I haven't been around this site very long but it seems there aren't many ride reports with pics. I for one enjoy reading about member rides and seeing the pictures from other areas. Here are a few pics from a recent ride up hwy 7 and a stop on the little red river. Show us your fall pics...................later, yammer 2k1
10. Hello i am new to the forums and it sucks that my first post is a problem. I can not seem to get my air ride to work on my 86 royale when I start the bike it comes on but then it goes to E4. Does anybody know what this could be?

14. OK, I noticed today that my clutch started slipping , I have not had an issue with it since I changed the clutch spring and pressuere plate to a Barnett. I changed the oil yesterday and noticed the slipping today in 5th when I roll back on the throttle pretty hard. I use yamalube oil so that shouldn't have anything to do with it. The bike has 64,000 miles. Is it time to replace the clutch or could it be something else? I am going to go out and change the fluid now which I do not believe has anything to do with it but you never know. I changed it at around 46,000. Anyway do I need to just replace the friction plates or what do you all suggest. I ride 2 up most the time but am not a hard rider. I do pull a trailer 2-3 times a year on vacations for a week at a time. Thanks for your suggestions ps I ride around 32,000 miles a year and I have had the bike for 16 months
15. I will be going for a ride with some fellow veterans tomorrow morning. http://techboss.in/index.php/2011-auburn-veterans-day-parade-and-observance/ I believe (have heard) this is the largest remaining veterans parade in the country. Mike
16. Would like some feedback from those who ride 2up. New to site here, been riding a honda vtx1300S last few years, wife just recently riding along more so looking for a better ride for her mostly in particular on longer trips. Any others from a x1300 background as to how the venture compares at highway speeds or any other areas for that matter. I have looked at GW, HD, etc but giving the venture a look. Smoother ride with the v4, more room to stretch out (compared to GW, sport/touring bikes, etc. I'm 6'2"). I'm in the early stages of looking so any constructive comments welcome and appreciated.
17. Have you seen this statistic. 98% of all harleys sold are still on the road. The other 2% made it home. Ride safe, Mike
18. Hey Vancouver Island riders. The last week two riders were killed on the Malahat high-way {cars crossing centerline} In case you have not heard there is a ride from Ogden Point to the Parliment Buildings this Saturday. It is an impromtu ride , not organized by any particular group to reinforce the call to divide the highway for the safety of all drivers. Muster up at 3 pm at Ogden, then about 3:30 at the Parliment for some speakers and a moment of silence etc. Cheers, Gary
19. a group of us have decided to ride to Newfoundland next summer. There will be three couples on five bikes we plan to spend 6 or 7 days there, about three to get up to there and three back for about two weeks total. Are there ferry services at both ends of Route 1. what are the must see places, will we need to plan carefully to avoid running out of gas or are stations spaced reasonably close, last summer on a sunday morning we ended up running on fumes looking for a gas station (that was open) in the cape bretton area. In nova scotia we never bothered to make hotel reservations, we were able to ride untill something or someplace caught our eye and rooms were always availible. Can we expect the same in Newfoundland? Some Newfie want to plan our trip for us? Al
20. Been talking to a some people I know and it seemed funny how many of us own both a Venture or RSTD AND a FJR..... Must be the best bikes out there
21. Well I guess the weather was a little to chilly for some, we only had 3 bikes show up for RoyalStarJack's fall ride, but it was a great ride anyway, Jack, his wife Cheryl, RandyR and myself braved the chilly temps. We made our way via some beautiful back roads that were so colorful it was hard keeping my eyes on the road. We had a nice lunch at Col. Pooles BBQ, which is our regular stop on this ride, from there back roads all over the N. Ga. mountains with a couple of stops to take some pics. The weather was chilly but beautiful. Thanks again to Jack for a wonderful way to spend a fall Saturday. I had to make this one, it might be my last ride like that for a few months, since I will be having Carpal Tunnel surgery on my left hand in Nov.
22. OK, I believe I am going to take a ride from central Illinois to Key West Florida. I will be going via Nashville, Atlanta, Stopping in Gainesville FL for a few days to visit my neice and a couple of friends then off to Fort Myers to see my Brother. Then down to Key West for a day or so and then back up the east side of FloridaStopping in Orlando to visit a cousin. Then the chilly ride on home. Just thought if anyone wanted to ride along on the route either for a few days or just the day let me know (or the whole trip) and I will get my trip all planned out and let you know when I will be in your area. I would also change my route some if there are people who want to ride, I will stop and pick you up along the way. Rick
23. I have an Angel watching me because she kept me from getting killed or badly injured today. Took a ride throught Ohio and Pa with friends. We were heading to Fatboys biker hangout we like to ride to and get lunch when the weather is nice. We made a left turn onto a two lane highway and then approached a road that would be a right turn. I was looking at the leaves, a pretty girl was smiling at me from a car or I was just taking in the enjoyment of the ride. I WAS NOT PAYING ATTENTION! Woody activated his right turn signal and I missed it. The next thing I knew I had a Road Star turning in front of me! Life slowed to a crawl. I locked up both wheels in a panic manuver. The Royal Star was sliding back and forth like a snake on a griddle. I knew Woody could see me and I wanted him to just get out of the way. I could see the accident coming. Woody brought his years of riding experience from somewhere and gunned the Harley out of my way. I watched him hoping for a chance to just slip behind him. How we missed each other I will never know. I just made it behind him in a crossing pattern. I am 56 and on heart medication. I wonder if I should even keep riding sometimes.
24. Loraine I decided it was time for a old man ride and bought the trike! http://i54.tinypic.com/2u8f72t.jpg
25. Earlier, I posted about a rattle I could not tell if it was the collector or something in the bottom of the engine. I had another collector and finally got it on today and when I cranked it up, no more rattle. So, with it being a beautiful sunny day at about 65 degrees, I just had to go for a little ride. The vision in my right eye is getting a little more clear every day in the area that has filled with fluid. Right now the fluid line is about one third from the bottom of my eye, or since everything is upside down in an eye, about two thirds full. Also, the double vision has gone away as things are now lining up and I am having more binocular vision, therefore having better depth of field. So, I figured if I was real careful and did not put myself in any position where I had to manhandle the bike, I would be OK. I took about a 20 mile ride down through the country and it really did feel good. RandyA
