  1. Since I dislike having things that I don't use......and since my Venture came with a trailer hitch....... It's an older trailer, and needs a little work. I may have to paint it red, but I think it's going to be an easy resto. Opinions on what it's worth?? I paid $175 for it.
  2. When I copy and paste a picture it always shows up great at the time, but the next day all you see is a big red x
  3. On Stars web site they show it with Black with flames, and dark gray is there a dark gray. or I may look at 09 dealer said it could get a 09 was not shure if it was tan & black or red and black. Would like the Red and Black,
  4. A New Year and a New Decade all on a Blue Moon.I'm leaving to pick Ramona up from work followed by a special bottle of Hatteras Red. Then maybe some Romance. Wish me luck.
  5. My 07 RSTD is red over black..but I seen the black over red? Is this a choice preference or is it the year the bike is? Just interested. Mark
  6. Stopped by a local dealer. He had two rstd's on the floor...a red one and a two toned black and ?...I loved the red one and red is my least favorite color..... SWEET..really light compared to my rsv...I think I may be getting myself into trouble????...Taters if you read this , this is another BIG TOM...not the one you know:whistling:................................... see we are two different people....

    red Fridays

I don't know how long this will stay posted but I had to give it a try! Red Shirt If the red shirt thing is new to you, read below how it went for a man... Last week, while traveling to Chicago on business, I noticed a Marine sergeant traveling with a folded flag, but did not put two and two together.. After we boarded our flight, I turned to the sergeant, who'd been invited to sit in First Class (across from me), and inquired if he was heading home. No, he responded. Heading out I asked? No. I'm escorting a soldier home. Going to pick him up? No. He is with me right now. He was killed in Iraq , I'm taking him home to his family. The realization of what he had been asked to do hit me like a punch to the gut.. It was an honor for him. He told me that, although he didn't know the soldier, he had delivered the news of his passing to the soldier's family and felt as if he knew them after many conversations in so few days. I turned back to him, extended my hand, and said, Thank you Thank you for doing what you do so my family and I can do what we do. Upon landing in Chicago the pilot stopped short of the gate and made the following announcement over the intercom. "Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to note that we have had the honor of having Sergeant Steeley of the United States Marine Corps join us on this flight He is escorting a fallen comrade back home to his family. I ask that you please remain in your seats when we open the forward door to allow Sergeant Steeley to deplane and receive his fellow soldier. We will then turn off the seat belt sign." Without a sound, all went as requested. I noticed the sergeant saluting the casket as it was brought off the plane, and his action made me realize that I am proud to be an American. So here's a public Thank You to our military Men and Women for what you do so we can live the way we do. Red Fridays. Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the "silent majority." We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers. We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing. Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of America supports our troops. Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday -- and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that ... Every red-blooded American who supports our men and women a far, will wear something red.
  8. I live near Middletown, Frederick County, Maryland. This morning my wife and I went to church at Holy Family Catholic Community in Middletown. Two 2nd-generation Ventures, both with West Virginia plates, were in the parking lot. One red, one blue. Red one had US flag and Marine Corps flag on it. Red one was a Venture without the full fairing. I didn't have time to wait and see who you are. Maybe you can identify yourselves on this forum, or via a P.M. Nick Diaz Middletown, MD
  9. For the Cody bunch, it seems we dodged a bullet. Local weather channel announced that there was 15" of snow in Red Lodge Montana yesterday (10/06/09). Furthermore, the same weather service noted that the Mt. Rushmore monument (official visitor center, I suppose) was closed due to snow.
  10. red, supposed to let you, and all those who offered thoughts and prayers last christmas, that Renate,s dad made an almost full recovery. So much so that her parents were able to have a belated 50th anniversery celebration this last weekend. We got her out there just in time for it. BIG SURPRISE. Lots of tears and hugs. Spending the week with her dad. Don,t worry Red. She,s back thursday night so we,ll see you guys on friday night for the fall color ride. She just wanted to let everyone know and i,m sure she will write when things slow down.
  11. I know a lot of you run K&N Air filters.. I have to ask, how often are you cleaning these things out, 'recharging' them as it were? I installed mine last summer, 31,000 miles ago to be exact and just now recharging them (they are soaking with the cleaner right now).. and they are just like brand new except for the spot right in front of where the air comes into the box.. a 2 inch diameter grey spot.. the rest of it is nice and red.. wow.. are you kidding me?? I have K&N's on my VSTAR, mind you they sit out in the open so they require more frequent cleaning but is this right, only once a year? And I've been up and down a lot of dirt roads, rain, dust fog and birds.. I'm impressed!! Or should I be doing them more often on spec anyway? I just did the hot hot water from inside-out rinsing and there was a lot of fresh RED oil floating around the tub.. almost as if these were brand new.. wow.
  12. Curious if it was possible to add a feature to the Main text area similar to the newer versions of Microsoft and Lotus Notes. When you type a word incorrectly you get a red squigle under the word. If you right click the word there is suggestions for the correct spelling. Brad
  13. This is a mostly true story... After passing a particular ranch about 25 miles west of Houston many times in the past few months, I had been noticing a red 'something' sitting in a metal storage shed about 500 yds. off the main road. One day I just decided I couldn't stand not knowing what it was any longer. I found the road that lead down to the ranch. Long, winding, washboarded gravel. After crossing all the cattle guards and a couple of fields, I turned the corner and there it was, in all its glory. It was showing its age a little but the big 4 cylinders were sitting there waiting to come back to life. I noticed two brand new ME880 tires and the bright red, hand covered seat that I could see from the highway. A couple cows came over to check me out while I was entranced with my discovery. A few minutes later I heard a tractor come into the pasture and head my way. I met the nice gentleman that owned the property and the bike. We had a nice discussion about the bike which he said belonged to his son for years, but that he had lost interest and left it with him. The gentleman was in his late 60's and said he didn't ride any longer, but he hated to see the bike go to waste so he had taken it to a yamaha dealer to have a little work done. It had new carb boots, tires, and a tune up. He reached over and picked the keys off a nail in the corner post and started it up. Wow! It sounded smooth and strong! It had some signs of age and had been down on its side at least once but the damage was very minor and everything appeared to be straight and true. He said his wife had made the new red seat cover and she was proud of her work. I can't tell you how happy I was that he decided to let me buy the wonderful bike at a very reasonable price! I'm a 1st Gen owner!! Never thought I would say that! And I must admit it is faster than my 2nd gen... I did mention it is a 1ST GEN Vmax... right? :rotf: Here are a couple pics.
  14. i blew it and got to tickets in a month first one was a parking ticket. and last night i blew a red light. the worst part was i did'nt see it and neither did linda. it was flashing red. i drove through it like it was'nt even there. all kinds of lights flashed and i got my picture took. haven't had a ticket since the early 70's. it's scary to think i did'nt see it. i did wrong so i got to pay the piper.
  15. Hi Guys Not getting any answers on the Audio Forum. I am hooking up an Old Garmin StreetPilot III to my 2005 RSV. I read somewhere on the site to break open the The 5 pin din inside the fairing with the red tape on it. I have it hooked up and the Garmin Lady will announce through my headset only and not the speakers and the radio or CB will not mute when she talks. I figured out the red tape one is the intercom. Does the intercom normally mute the radio when you talk ? Can I get inbetween another set of 5 pin dins that will let me hear the Garmin Directions and mute the music or CB when she talks ?

  17. browsing the parts and accessories on e-bay and saw a red light changer for bikes. I had heard of them before but never thought much about it. The add says you mount under bike and it disrupts the electromagnetic sensor enough to trip the red light to green. I,ve never had a problem getting that left turn green arrow to trip for me. Are they saying it,ll trip any sooner than normal? Don,t alot of intersections have photo sensors now?[cheaper to install]. Do they help if your not centered on the magnetic sensor?. Or is this just another '' deer whistle'', sounds good but don,t waste your money. Just curious
  18. Hi, maybe someone has an anser for me. I have an 84 venture that will not start!!! I repace the tci and it ran, I had to work on the carbs--- ok did get running, but I went to start it to finish setting the carbs and...... at one time it was like the 4 of july. Here's the stange thing I have 12 volts going in to the tci red wire just like should, but I start cranking and the voltage goes down to 3.68 volts on the red power line-powering the tci!!! I have checked all the ohm reading and they are ok, all the relays are working. I follow the diagram and it shows red line 12 volt all the way to the tci, I know the wiring route on the bike is noware near the drawing on the paper(I found that the stater wiring goes thourgh the turn signal relays and other things). I just can't get 12 volt's at the red power ine. Has anyone else had anything like this show up. Thanks any help would be appericated. tom
  19. Took this last Sunday on the Cherahala Skyway,Then the rest of the day was a disaster. The red one fried the electrical system when we started to leave after this picture and I noticed I had a tire problem! We got home at midnight that night after calling family and 2-trailers to come haul us home. The white one had no problems and headed back to Knoxville when he thought we were ok. Oh well mine has new E-3s and the red one is still at Yamaha in Dalton, GA.
  20. Who was riding the red on red 1st Gen MK1 that I passed in downtown Dahlonega, Ga this morning (monday June 1st) I was on the Blue metal flake mk2 with the gold metal flake flames. We honked and waved as we passed.
  21. Ok, so after many trials and tribulations, i finally got the old beast up and running. However now I'm having some heat issues. Went for a 100 mile shakedown ride after I got it back together, and everything was fine. Rode it 50 miles into work that night, did fine until I got into town. stopped at a stop light, and noticed the heat guage creeping up. took off from the light, and it dropped (and I mean dropped, like split second went from bottom of the red to middle of the green). It did fine rest of the way to work. went to come home sunday afternoon, it did just fine until I got onto the highway. Guage creeped up to the red again, and just stayed right at the bottom of the red. Pulled over at an exit ramp, waited it out for a bit so it could cool off, got back on the highway, just fine for another 20 miles, guage goes back up to bottom of the red. Leapfrogged it the rest of the way home. Thermostat was replaced with the NAPA 156 two weeks ago (gasket fell apart in my hand, had to RTV the housing, new gasket and o-ring are ordered and hopefully will be here tomorrow). Does this behavior indicate the water pump is going out? If so, anyone happen to have one they want to get rid of? I can't seem to find it on the parts diagram, and I'm really hoping it's not going to be too big of an ordeal to replace.. been without my bike for two years, really don't want to spend another summer wishing I was riding. as an afterthought I looked in the classifieds and saw there's a water pump out of an '84. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/2071/cat/6 any reason why this wouldn't work in my '86?
  22. for sale in the classifieds - not a better buy this year! What was I thinking http://lh4.ggpht.com/_xOOWRVc9-a4/SdZiRVOUdTI/AAAAAAAAAqs/k6BUyK2g0MA/s640/RtSidePnt_chrome.jpg
  23. I know this subject has been beaten to death, I am no electrical wizard and I've read the fix for the ignition switch, what I'm not sure of, the 2 red 10g wires going to the toggle switch, is one connected to the Brown/Blue and one to the red, or is the Br/Bl and red joined together and then the two 10g wires attached to that. My ignition would come on when the key is between the Acc and On, but when it went to the On position the dash cut out but radio still worked. I was trying to loosen those screws that hold the switch with a hammer and punch...I was a millright we were good with a hammer...and now the switch is working again, I've tried wiggling the key and off and on and its still working. So was it a contact problem and would putting in this "Emergency switch" solve the problem should it occur again. So my dilemma is do, I leave it or wire in this toggle switch. Advice Please. Ian
  24. I know I'll probably fill like a dummy asking, but I've seen these on RSV's before and bought one for my bike quite a while ago, just never put it on, but lost the instructions. Now I'm thinking of putting it in my car instead, it's about 5 inch's long x 1 inch high x 3/4 inch deep and has a combination clock, voltage meter, and outside temp. reading. With the sensor that you put outside to p/u the outside temp. it has 3 other wires (black, red, and orange). I figure black and red goes to grnd. and batt., but where does the orange wire go (ignition?) I hooked up the red and black to the batt., and the clock, volt meter and outside temp came on, but I guess I still need to know about the orange, anybody out there done this??
  25. I have a 1988 VR with 64k miles on it. I have looked through as many threads as I can find on this problem and can't find a solution to my issue. I was out riding yesterday and my oil level warning light came on and the red LED started flashing. I pulled over on the shoulder as quickly as possible and had a buddy hold the bike upright so I could check the oil level for fear I had created another oil leak (previous leak fixed) and lost my oil. The oil was at very near the 3/4 full level so I wasn't low on oil. We sat there for a few minutes letting things cool down and my nerves to settle down not wanting anything serious to happen to my ride. After about 5 minutes I cranked it back up and the light stayed on so I let it run and rocked it from side to side and still the light stayed on. We started riding again but instead of it being pleasurable for me anymore I was concerned with a problem in the engine now. So I decided to turn around and head back home. About 5 miles from the house the light went out. It stayed off until I pulled into my drive way and the DA** thing came back on again. Now I have read the others have had this problem but it was when the were cranking on the throttle while going through the gears. I could understand this if that was the case with me but I was just riding along minding my own business. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you fix it? Red lights give me the willies and FLASHING red lights is hard on the old ticker. All help will be greatly appreciated as always.
