  1. :(There have been numerous discussons about radio problems. Mine is apparently not resolved with the usual cleaning and greasing of the connections under the faring. My issues seem to be at the "brain" as some have called it. It used to jump all over the place for no ryme or reason and now it is just locked in on one station and only the volume control works. No other feature works. My questions is this. Has anyone had to buy just the control module with the LED readout, or just the inside "brain"? If so, how much was it and do you have to buy it from a dealer? I'm concerned this is going to cost a real bundle. Any comments are certainly welcome. Thanks
  2. Hi I'm new here, and I have a question about replacing the antenna on my 84 VR. I posted this question in a different area, but now I think I should post in the Tech area.Do I need a special antenna for the radio, or will a generic one work? I don't have a CB. If I were to get a CB where would I mount it? Thanks
  3. for some reason radio was working yesterday i parked it for the night went and took off this morning and i have nothing i mean nothing no display sound etc i checked all three fuse boxes from what i could tell no fuses blown any other suggestions out there ? anyone else have this problem? help i need my tunes thanks jack:confused07::confused07::confused07::think::think:
  4. I'm looking for a used radio control unit. The toggle switch only works in the up position. I tried cleaning and re-plugging the plug at the back of the radio. No dice. Must be the contact in the control unit. If anyone knows of a crashed '99 and up Venture please let me know. Thanks, Tony
  5. Well Ive been fighting with myself the last while as I am not totally liking the OEM cassette am/fm radio in my 85 1st gen . I really do prefer to leave things stock as the manufacturer intended, but i just cant seem to get the sound out of the system that I like. Even after having the casette player/radio rebuilt I still have trouble with sound fading in and out on the right speaker (new Pioneer speakers installed also). So tomorrow night with a friend we are going to install a Sony cdx-m30 cd radio unit and run new wiring for the audio in my ride. This unit will allow me to mount an ipod and a satellite unit in my trunk(with the Sony adapter cabling) and still be able to control the music at the head unit or with the wireless remote I will mount somewhere convenient. I have the blank OEM filler panel where the OEM radio sits so we are going to cut an opening into that to mount the new unit. I am going to try to save the original mounts and connectors if possible so if i want to drop the old unit back in it will be a snap to do. I will try to remember my camera tomorrow night. Brian:cool10:
  6. I might have misunderstood or misread some stuff but I was under the impression the radio was suppose to cut off when we use the intercom. If the radio is on the speakers I can understand it why it may not cut off but when listening to tunes in the HeadSet, it is pretty hard to understand my passenger and vice versa. Is there a setting to get the radio to cut off when talking or is it something I have to live with? Thanks
  7. I posted this in "Wanted to Buy" section, but I figured I would take up everyone's time by posting it in here too. I am in need of a radio control housing for a 2nd gen. Mine has cracked where the mounting screws are and is getting very shaky. If anyone has one that they would part with, with or without the control, please let me know. Thanks
  8. Ok, I replaced the battery a few weeks ago and started the bike. The starter stuck on! I had a couple of fuses that blew as a result of that. My low beam and tail light bulbs blew as well. I tore everything apart, replaced fuses and light bulbs and all is well, but.... I get no sound from my radio. I have unplugged all the large connectors and plugged them back in, nothing. At first the controller light up, but now that doesn't even light up. Is there a fuse somewhere specifically for the radio that any of you are aware of? If not I'm afraid maybe the radio brain blew with the power surge. If you all have any ideas for me that would be greatly appreciated. I haven't been able to find one either for a descent price, so I'm hoping I don't have to replace this one. I also hate to put the bike back together just to tear it apart to replace the radio. Thanks for all your help guys! Brent
  9. I got to take it out on somebody and you are a pretty good target.... My radio suddenly stopped working. And I know why. It is Condor's fault. See the way I figure is like this. With that new fork brace on the bike, I have been joyfully entering the curves and appreciating the smooth ride except for the occasional bump or two. Well, maybe a bit more than that, but with my progressive springs, well, can't be too bad. So. Radio suddenly stops working. I think sad thoughts. Ready to start looking for blown fuse, torn wires, bad radio, other horrible options. Then. I see the whole radio insert thingie is sitting lopsided. Press it back in place and wallah everthing is fine. Had it not been for Condor getting us a good fork brace for a good price none of this would have ever happened! __________________

  11. I am loking at buying the Zumo 550 and just have a couple questions I can't seem to find answers to on the web. Will the Zumo wire into our radios the same as an MP3 player or XM radio? I have read a lot about bluetooth headsets or ear buds but want to just plug it in to the radio. If it does plug into our radios will the MP3 play in stereo? Is it worth the extra money for the 550 instead of the 450? Bluetooth is not as important to me but I like the XM radio. Is there any cheaper option than almost $200 for the XM radio antenna? I now have a seperate XM radio and a MP3 player on the bike, neither of which is waterproof. I'm just looking at one thing that will give me the GPS plus the other features. Thanks for your input.
  12. Wooooooooooo Friggin hoooooooooooo! I finally fixed the ghost in the raido, thanks to Gunboat! It wasn't the connections, now soaked in di-electric grease. It wasn't the MCU, though I was beginning to think, it was. It wasn't, me! It was, the friggin Radio/amp itself!!! Ironically, the local dealership pin-pointed that at the first visit... Oh man, it's so cool, the MP3 even works too! I replaced the radio/amp and voila, it all worked. Gunboat, please respond soon as you can, so I can $paypal your money. I can't seem to find your emails lately. To all, "Gunboat" sent me his radio, free of charge, without ever meeting me.......if it worked, I'd pay, if not..............anyhooo, just amazing. This site, the people, heartwarming. Now, if only I could get all the screws back into the back of the fairing, that'd be cool. Anyway, Semper Fi, Erich:bighug:
  13. I just installed a Sirius radio on my Venture. Works great but I am getting engine feedback/noise. My riding buddy has XM on a Shadow and has the same problem. Mine is connected via the socket on the fairing, soon to be hard wired. The Shadow is hardwired with a filter. Anyone have this problem? Is there a way to get rid of it? If I go fast enough I don't notice it as much Thanks, John
  14. Hi All, I'm looking to replace my existing radio, as I "think" that's the cultprit, nothing else has worked. So, anyone know where I can find a replacement unit? Bikebandit.com has them but, they're about $900. Or, can these be sent in for repair, somewhere? Thanks.
  15. Two of us have recently bought 2007 Yamaha RSV midnight new from a dealer, we both have the problem with the radio not working, as it does and sometimes it does not come on or shut off as it should? I have a 2000 RSV and I've never had any problems with it. On one of the enteries a while back I can remember it showing a cutaway of wire bundles "3" I think and the article spoke of loose contact? did this apply to the radio?and if so where can I find the article? Thanks "mobile"
  16. So, the radio has been intermittent, at best last few weeks. Comes on, goes off, all on it's own. Tried the recommendation tonight of, splitting the fairing, reseating the big connectors and applying di-lectric grease before the last reseat. All, to no avail. Here's the current symptoms. -Radio plays through rear speakers only. -Volume control does nothing, doesn't get louder even at 30, only goes mute when it goes to zero. -When adjusting volume, the front speakers make that beep with every volume click, so they're working. -Also, the CB transmits through all 4 speakers and the volume adjustment for that, works fine. -Aux still doesn't work. Thought I was on to something when I discovered the connector from amp to cassette wasn't connected together. Still didn't work though, after connecting. One dealer thought it was the "head unit" needs to be replaced. Is that the amp? Another dealer thought, it's the antenna... So, it's sitting in the garage looking ugly, as the fairing is off. Luckily, rain tomorrow.....I hope. Any idears? Perty please?
  17. Got my bike back yesterday after being gone 3 days to have warranty work done on the exhaust Y's and the inner fairing replaced due to broken tabs. When I first picked it up the radio would not come on. Turned around and brought it right back and watched them pull the outer fairing and just giggle the wires and it came back on. They said it was a loose connection. I started home and realized I had to turn the radio up louder than usual to hear it so I'm thinking maybe the amp is not connected correctly. Called the dealership and they want me to bring it back and can't tell me which connectors are radio related. Anyone here know so I can just pull it apart myself? Plan on checking all the connections but figured it might be nice to know exactly which ones to pay attention to. Thanks.
  18. Got a factory radio to put on the rig, checked it last nite with power, button #2 for preset is sunk down in, keeps unit from operating, power comes on, have some functionality, but no channel changing. Any tricks or ideas? If not, I'll have to go back to aftermarket setup for this weekend. Dan
  19. Guys, any idea where the best place to mount a Sirrius radio on a 2nd Gen?
  20. My bike is in the shop for warranty work but plan on wiring an XM radio, the roady 2, once it gets back to me. my question is I want to hard wire it in but have heard that the best idea is to wire it into something that only comes on with the ignition keyed. Any recommendations on what to tap it into?
  21. Go directly to the source for the right answers !!! I need some imput from fellow motorcycle riders. I have a zumo 550 on my RSV (love the GPS), I can buy an antenna/receiver (GMX-30) to get satellite radio music/sports, Accessing and controlling it through the GPS unit. However this thing cost over $200... Anyone using one ? And is it worth it ? I don't mind spending the money for the unit if it is a good product and works well. (FYI...I've never had, or heard satellite radios) This would keep me from mounting a seperate xm radio + antenna... Anyone using one of these ? and how do you like it ???? Thanks Sterling T.
  22. My 83 standard had a radio mounted in it when I got it using a plastic cover from Cycle Sound. Over the years it got in bad shape. I made a cover similar to the one shown and the radio went straight down. I then made a stiffer one and made it so the radio mounted at a 30 degree angle. This made the CD work better and made it also easier to get the CD's out and even change them on the run. I have taken some pictures to help anyone contemplating doing this. It is a bit of work and I did use some good thick aluminum sheet. When I was finished making what I wanted, I painted it with black "wrinkle" paint. This give it a surface texture and covers some of the blemishes. As you can see, I also installed some switches. These go to my fog/running lights, the rear light bars, the radar detector and two sets of strobe lights in the headlight bucket. RandyA
  23. I'm on a 07 Midnight Venture, I have a Sirus radio hooked up throught a casset adapter, it cuts out at about 78-80 MPH, the radio comes up and says no signal and when I drop back to about 75 it comes back on, the rest of the system is fine, has anyone experienced such a thing?? Thanks in advance for any info. Love the forum John Pensacola FL
  24. I guess it is official, my children are right, I should not be allowed near electronics. I have a just purchased a 05 RSV and have read the owners manuel (on Yamaha Motors site) and I can not get set my favorites on the radio. Can anyone give me any advise? Thank s
  25. Does anyone have a spare fast forward/rewind button off a 1st gen VR cassette unit? It appears someone decided they needed the button worse than I when I parked at WallyWorld yesterday. Probably just some kids exploring, but man it ticks me off that they cant leave well enuff alone. Let me know how much you asking for it and how we can work out payment. I could just buy another radio unit, but I really dont need more motorcycle stuff sitting around here. Thanks, Brian
