  1. I m wondering if a bearing is bad or the clutch basket is wobbling. I replaced the pressure plate bearing but the noise is still there. The noise is a whirring sound almost like something is wobbling coming from the gear area loudest at 3000 rpm, stops when I pull the clutch in. At idle a slight rumble goes away when I pull the clutch in. I get on acceleration a rumble/vibration coming from the gear area. The noise is really starting to bother me. The carbs have been synced. Any ideas?
  2. Ever think that gambling is pretty much the same way you train chimps. Pull lever, nothing Pull lever, nothing, Pull lever, 5 peanuts Yipee Pull lever, nothing... Wonder if you can train a pygmie?
  3. This guy said he wants to drive the truck..... He looked right at home...... He said he can pull a trailer.... It was great seeing you again Bob...Thanks for the parts......
  4. I have straight risers on my Tour classic. looking to see if anyone has a pair of venture risers they have taking up space in thier garage. The venture risers pull the bars back an inch., Even if I got the riser exenders it will only make it 1 1/4" high not back.
  5. Hey Guys I new here my nephew (17) and I have been buying selling old Barn n Garage finds for the last 5 years done 4 total frame up restorations mostly cafe racer and choppers. Back in 80 a Drunk Driver went left of center and hit me head on on a 2 stoke 750 Kaw, in a wheelchair but still get up and work on motorcycles just about every day no kids so I get to be cool uncle tom the "Biker" Anyway we picked up a an 83 Venture Royal , and an 83 goldwing, think I'll just give the GL a detail and flip, The Venture Royal not going to do a full restoration, but going to pull most of the aluminum and chrome, Buff it all out. and a good detailing Any one know where I might find some exploded drawings of this bike so I could get an idea what I am getting into Going to try saddle soap on the seat, but passenger back rest is torn any one got one of those ??? Thanks Tom:322:
  6. Have just installed a Triwing trike kit and would like to find a "Leading Legs" kit. After just getting the bike back together, I don't really want to pull the front end apart to have the trees modified. Any ideas?
  7. http://www.sarasotatrailers.com/uploads/Siesta%20Full%20Page(2).pdf Has anyone looked at one of these in person? It's caught my interest enough that I'm almost ready to pull the trigger...
  8. Come on by and watch me.... After spending most of the winter taking on the 2nd gear issue and having lots of ups and downs we finally got the bike back together. Hooked it all up with exhaust etc.. Lots of help from folks on the site.. Like Dingy, Dano and Skydoc. Mostly Marcarl.. Anyhow it started right up BUT it makes an enormous racket while in neutral. Goes through the gears fine and quiet in every gear but in neutral it sounds like a metal playing card on bicycle spokes... Looking like I have to pull the motor again which is a BIG job for my limited skills and then chase down the problem and re-assemble. Down time with not riding is going to kill me... Anyhow does anyone have any suggestions as to what I did wrong? Wayne
  9. With a little time to spare before work today I decided to start the job to pull the final drive and lube the drive shaft. In a matter of two hours I was able to pull the tire, remove, clean, moly and reinstall the hub. Pull the final drive and drive shaft clean her up, moly it and reinstall it. I was pleasantly surprised how easy and quick it was. Guess I’ll be putting this job on the yearly to do list.
  10. Folks I need some help here. Rode today 2 up for the first time on my RSV and it killed me. Not the handling so much. My problem is when she mounts and dis-mounts. I cant hold the bike up. We made one stop and come home. It took everything I had to not drop it twice and by then I was used up. Her getting on first makes it very hard to stand the bike up, but easier on me a little. However when needing to have her get off in order to get into a park spot or for whatever reason i simply cannot hold the bike up. Im not so sure I did not pull something in my wrist saving the bike. Her short legs dont allow much for her to anything any different, but someting has to change or I am going to be totally spent before we leave for a ride.
  11. I have determined by testing and using a jumper wire that my 83 VR has a bad wire from the switch to the first junction behind the headlight. Running a second wire is no big deal but wanting to do a good job of it, how do you get the switch out of the casting for the master cylinder/lever. I have taken the "bracket" loose and everything is good to pull the little section of old wires out but it appears that the wires do not unplug from the switch and I need to get the swith out to have a better look (switch shows as part number four on the parts breakdown and is part number 26H-83980-00-00 - sells for about $35.00) Any help? Steve Neal
  12. Installed Earl's clutch upgrade today and I wanted to give him a big THANKS; The parts arrived promptly and the installation went smoothly. There was more oil in the clutch cover than I expected. I recommend placing a Gen 1 on its side stand, not the center-stand. Not a big deal, I was going to change the oil and filter anyway. The upgraded clutch set-up needs a little more pull on the handle, but, my clutch no longer slips at full throttle, and the clutch action is more linear. My Beast runs hard now!
  13. My wife and I are on vacation, and just pulled into my daughter's in Mufreesboro TN.--500 miles more to get home. The last couple of days, I've been hearing strange noises from the rear end and brakes, mostly from the rear end when you decellerate moderately and the rear end is hot. I put in on the center stand and this time (I"ve checked it several times) I felt side to side plaly in the rear wheel. When I pulled the cotter key and tried to tighten the axle (I also loosened the axle cinch bolt) I found it was about 1/2 turn loose. I tightened it and still had the play. I decided to pull the rear wheel and see what's wrong. I can't get the axle to move. I usually just put a phillilps scredriver in the 2 holes on the right side and twist and pull the axle right out. This time I can't budge it by turning it OR hitting it soundly on the left side. I've got the cinch bolt completely out, and I've driven in a wedge to open up the axle clamp. It won't move. I've read here where one guy had the axle worn apart. I'll be mine is started down that path. How can I get it out???? Frank
  14. Its been a wet year here and very cool. this mess started off with a guy getting his farm equipment stuck in a field about 2 hours north of here. They brought in tractors to pull him out and it looks like things snoballed from there. I gotta think the backhoe guys didnt have a sniff at what they were doing. Brian
  15. Any help appreciated the radio on my 08 RSV locks up randomly - can't change stations or enen shut it off for that matter. Only thing that will do anything is the volume dial. Until I pull into the dealers lot and park then works normal! Frustrating! Ken!
  16. I have found a good camper trailer to pull behind my bike but the trailer weighs a little over 500 lbs loaded and I can get it for a good price. My Question is: is this too heavy to pull behind a 1200 cc motorcycle. Has anyone pulled this heavy of a trailer before? Is it safe????
  17. I'm headed back to GA and my pull cable on the throttle just broke. Anyone near here? I'm going to try and hook the push cable to the pull side.
  18. 87 venture, CB and AM radio work. FM makes static noise, but no stations pull in. Possible problem? thanks craig
  19. In my ongoing attempt to get comfy I was wondering about cycling shorts? They come with built in padding.... Aside from that I'm about to pull the trigger on a Daylong!
  20. Soooo, another silly clutch question. With the bike idling, I hear a knock from the engine, that goes away if I pull in the clutch. Sometimes, when you turn the bike off, it is a very hard knock. Obviously need to look at my clutch. So question is, does anyone know if this is indicative of a clutch bearing, clutch basket, or just a bad clutch? And from reading some of the tech articles, do I need to pull the engine to replace a clutch bearing? I am a little confused on that one. The bike is an 86 Venture Royale, with about 70,000 miles, if that matters. Thanks everyone for the input. Kevin
  21. ok we took it out for a run and i must say where getting there still idles a little rough but going to run the pi## out of it. still about 1/4 full with that can of seafoam i put in it . but i hit 55 mph and i swear i had like a dozen cats screaming at me. let me tell ya it puckerd me up. i though oh crap its going to lock up the engine? well i noticed the speedo was just jumping. and damn the noise was loud. so ok is it the cable. or the drive unit at the wheel keep in mind we did both wheels rotors brakes and all did i mess something up while doing that work? i have a extra used cable here as well as the driveunit. but dang i hate to think i got to pull that front wheel again. i also learned if you think it needs to be oiled you better do it. time to wd 40 and check everything out. you know the most fun is learning to do it and learn. right now i would like to kick the PO arse. letting the bike get this way. but when i get er done im going to be one happy guy. also whats the best setting for air. i got 12 in front and 32 rear that might be why it feels so tall. and a little fun getting on it. and is there a way to tell if progressive springs have been installed its a 84 and for some reason or im not looking right i dont see anti dives? also no front air cross over for the forks? where it should be by the key there is now a pull switch that works the fan? why someone did that i dont know? its never overheated on me and i never pulled that switch. except to see what it was. maybe just a precaution while sitting in heavy traffic turn it on?
  22. I have been looking for an enclosed trailer to rent in the Chicago land area, to pull 1 or 2 motorcycles. Does anyone know of a place? The only one I could find was Arlington Motorsports, but they are kind of pricey. http://www.arlingtonmotorsportsinc.com/trailer_rentals.htm Thanks.
  23. I want to rmove the CD player from the saddle bag temporarly. Can I not unplug the cord from the player itself? It feels like I'm going to break something if I pull any harder.
  24. Just wondering how eveyone else decides which is the best. I,ve noticed when I,m in the mountains, especially two up or pulling a trailer and cruising on curvy mountain roads the scenery goes by and all I see is the road in front. Really have to stop or pull over some where safe to have a look around. When I,m driving all I see is the road in front, miss all the good stuff. On the prairies things seem to slow down and if there is some thing interesting you get a chance to decide if it,s interesting and pull over. Now I know the air is fresher and cleaner in the moutains but it just seems that I stop more to look around when on an open road than in the hills. Funny thing is I have met more people pulled over on:think: the open road than in the hills, both in Canada and the US.
  25. Got the 1st gen back together, new brakes front and rear, new rear tire, Shinko 777, like the way it felt when I test drove it last night, only 1 small detail to take care off, headlight burnt out while I was test driving it, so need to pull it this afternoon and put the spare in it, change the oil and she is ready to ride full time. Hopefully the weather will clear up by tomorrow so I can make it to 86er's M&E&R&E&R.
