  1. Here's a quick video of that new 3 wheeled bike that looks like a cross between an ATV and a SLED...it's pretty cool. I am sure we will see these dotting out hwy's very soon. http://www.ontario-motorcycle-rides.com/can-am.html
  2. Ok, now I am going off track for a change, back in the 70's I used to have an album by Johnny Rivers, Realization, and lost it some time ago, now I am looking for a copy of a particular song from that album, Hey Joe, I feel it is the best version out there, and if someone has it I would be greatful for a copy of it or the album if they have it on CD, its pretty hard to find new, and none of the download sites I have checked have the album or the song...........If you have it in a wav file or mp3 that would suffice also................
  3. Friend of mine inherited his fathers 1950 Triumph 650cc . He will be shipping it to Wa. from Ca. and is going to start a slow methodical Restoration of the Bike. Was talking to him today, and looking at a few photo's of the bike, its in pretty good condition. And should make a great Restoration project. Anyway, My Question: The original " Amal " Carbs are known to be pretty much Junk. I was wondering if anybody out there has any suggestions for a replacement carburator for these Vintage Triumphs ? Seems I remember seeing that there might be a Mikuni that could be used as a replacement. Also, next question would be the Electrical charging systems ( ie. Lucas ) are pretty much junk from back in the 50's. Any suggestions for a Modern Replacement for the electrical system. Hey " Squeez " do you have any expertise in this area ?? Any and all suggestions are wellcome.
  4. I'm pretty sure i just good a pretty deal on a 1990 venture royal. So far the only things i've found wrong is a wobble in the front if you don't have a firm grip on the bars, I'm guessing some sort of bearings in the forks or steering for that and it needs new tires. I'm planning to ride it alot in fact I've put 800mi on since i picked it up saturday, but it kinda sounds like the dunlop e3 are a good bet for a good handling long lasting tire. thought get an opion from you guys
  5. Pretty interesting MC. 100 mile range at full power. http://www.evcusa.com/ ...
  6. I have had the carbtune for a few months, but was hesitant to do this on my own, without some help. The help was in a post by Freebird. I followed it to the "T" and hopefully everything is ok. I won't be able to Ride until Sunday. 1 and 2 were a little off, so I got them pretty close. 3 and 4 were just about perfect, but the difference between the 1,2 and 3,4 was quite a bit off. I got them pretty close. It had never been done before, I could tell because the hoses were difficult to take off the carbs.
  7. I finally have the Ebay Listings link working in the side menu. I think that pretty much has everything working again since the upgrade.
  8. Did a search and came up with an answer from last year, so I thought I'd check to see if anyone had an update. Just going through the new purchase (01 RSV), changing the oil, filters, etc. Also replacing the plugs. Well the back two are a piece of cake, left front was a bit of a challenge, but was able to get the plug wire out, pretty easily, by lifting towards the front of the bike, there's a little gap up there. The right front is another story. The answer I found was to just yank it out. Is that still the preferred method? Also found out that NGK plugs don't fit the 5/8" plug socket that the manual suggests you use. Kind of a pain in the butt, but the back two are easy to reach, my regular 18 mm socket doesn't have the rubber in it. After loosening the left front, couldn't get my meat hooks in there to grab the plug. Used a short length (4-5") of 3/8" fuel line, pushed it over the top of the plug, pulled it out. You can use the same method for the install, works pretty good.
  9. I took a trip to the Clearview factory last evening to pick up my shield. They are located about 35 miles SW of Denver in a small community in the mountains. Their modest set up was pretty impressive. The owner has been making shields for over 20 years. They make every shield by hand and place a lot of emphasis on quality control. They produce hundreds of shields and ship all around the world. We discussed the recent "NC" ad video link. John gave me a link to one of their competitors sites that I think pretty much covers all the angles on windshields & their materials. Hope this answers your questions about the material debate. I also was able to snag some scraps that I will test with a hammer later. Check out this site. www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Fairing.html#Windshield Thanks, DNB
  10. and all the other Long Riders out there. Every time I hear this song, I immediately think of lowell. But I also think it would be an appropriate theme song for a lot of the members here. The Long Way Home (Tom Waits) Well, I stumbgled in the darkness I'm lost and alone Thiugh I said I'd go before us And show the way back home Ther's a light up ahead I can't hold onto her arm Forgive me pretty baby but I always take the long way home Money's just somethihng you throw Off the back of a train Got a handful of lightening And a hat full of rain And I know that I said I'd never do it again And I love you pretty baby but I always take the long way home I put food on the table And a roof overhead But I'd trade it all tomorrow For the highway instead Watch your back if I should tell you Loves the only thing I've ever known One thing for sure pretty baby I always take the long way home. You know I love you Babbby More than the whole wide world You are my woman I know you are my pearl Let's go out past the party lights We can finally be alone Come with me and we can take the long way home Come with me, together we can take the long way home Come with me, together we can take the long way home.
  11. WAY too rich for my blood but still looks pretty cool. http://drivelikeapro.com/pages/detail_motorcycles.html
  12. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2006-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-Midnight-Edition_W0QQitemZ300214144369QQcmdZViewItem Looking for a 2nd gen. and this one looks pretty good. Any thoughts?
  13. I noticed tonight that my cruise control will cancel if I put the foot brake pedal on. However, if I pull in the clutch or if I apply front brake the cruise will not release. I thought I would ask the knowledgeable group if anyone has experienced this or would have a pretty good idea where to start looking. Will get out the service manual tomorrow and have a look. Thanks.
  14. He went up a little to far up with the powder coat, I will need to sand that off before i install them. They were right at $100.00 to have powder coated like this. I love them, pretty neat.
  15. I'm curious to see what you guys think about this one. On Sunday I was headed home to Connecticut from a friend's in Philly and about 15 miles outside of town I started to feel a strange wobble in the rear end of my 87VR. As it got pretty nasty, I pulled over as quickly as I could and discovered I had a completely blown rear tire including bead separation on both sides. Once I got the bike towed home and up onto the center stand, I discovered that I had 3-4 patches on the tread like the one in the attached photo - including 1 about 6 inches long and worn completely through thus causing the flat. (Incidentally, I'm convinced my Ride-On saved my life again by giving me enough time to get to the side of the road). The tire had less than 15K on it (at least I'm pretty sure of that) over about a year and a half of use. Any idea what caused this? The dealer mounting the new tire asked if I'd been doing burnouts but I explained that I couldn't spin the rear tire on that bike if I tried. He figures it was tread separation caused by a bad tire but I'm not sure that makes sense - especially on an Avon Venon. Any ideas? Sorry the photo sucks. I'll upload better ones when I get the old tire back tomorrow with the newly mounted one.
  16. I am getting a 84 venture that needs some cosmetic help. It *was* red, before getting baked in the sun, then the saddlebags were replaced with 1986 purple saddle bags. I would like to simply get some black plastic paint, a glossy finish of some sort, and paint it. Ive heard it will work, I have heard it wont work, or it'll chip, or flake off. The plastic is pretty old and brittle. What has worked in the past? Im working on a pretty small budget, so I know I cant get it back to the shiney "new" look. Also, wheres a good place to find a replacement seat? Thanks, Pete
  17. used SEA FORM to clean the out side of the carb, this 93 vr need more than soup,409 used to work pretty good but i thank they have changed thir formly
  18. What a straight up guy! Been lurking into getting my cars sync'd. He chimed in and voluntered to help me. He lives in Huntsville, I live in Bremen, about 200 miles. Plans were too meet half way in Gadson and he'd show me the ropes at the local stealer. Well, rain and cold, changed the plans, he just simply volunteered to come all the way to my house on his off day just to show me how to sync the carbs!!!!!!!! Showed up with printed directions on the Carbtune and all! WOW! Showed me how to do it and made sure I was clear. got it down pretty close,! and then we just went over some othe minor details about the RSV that I wasn't familiar with. What a wealth on knowledge!!!!!! Great guy! Hopefully now I can help othe with what he's taught me! Thanks so much Eck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chris
  19. I was cleaning up a bit under/around the 2000 MM Limited and found this spring in that pile of dust. I'm pretty sure it's off my RSV but for the life of me I don't know where... Anyone had an idea??? I looked at the two springs on the carbs -- they are there..... :confused07: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/extraspring.jpg?t=1200863181 This picture is pretty close to the actual size of the spring. Coil is about an inch long and the over all length just over two inches... Thanks for helping!!!!
  20. I went to the junk yard and got two identical screw jacks and welded them together end to end. The jacks where pretty reasonable. Here are pictures with some measurments.
  21. When it comes to having the wind in your face, exhilarating speed and the communing with nature, most of us understand that it's pretty difficult to find something which is quite as exciting as riding a Venture. However, this looks like it might come pretty close: http://video.stumbleupon.com/#p=dglukb1xfa - just remember to be careful! I'm just not so sure that my wife will want to come along. Pete.
  22. Don't know if anybody out there has used this web site but you can hook up on some pretty good rides. www.motorcycleroads.us/index.html
  23. I don't like wearing helmets . . ., unless I'm riding in wintertime cold, or the rain, and then I don't mind them too much. However, now that I'm getting older and a little smarter, I realize that I need to overcome this attitude. Over the past few years I have tried a number of different helmets and found that I prefer different styles depending on the season. With my new Venture I also now use a headset/intercom system (Air Riders) and that is influencing my choice to wear a helmet more often. My current quest has to do with full-face helmets. If I wear a full-face helmet, it has to be a flip-up. I always ride with glasses or sunglasses and this is the style I prefer. When I wear my full-face, it's my XL, HJC Symax. The price was fair and it was pretty comfortable (considering that I don't really like wearing helmets). This past summer I road about 12,000 miles and had the opportunity to ride through a number of states which required I wear a helmet. During that time, I experimented with a few different helmets which really reminded me why I don't like helmets - it's because I'm not comfortable in them. Most of my riding is here in the Mountain West (Utah), and it's HOT here in the summer. Thank goodness it's not humid here, I don't think that I could cope with that. I tried a XXL, AGV 3/4 Helmet that was kind of cool-looking and pretty inexpensive. But, I soon discovered that the lack of cushioning on my forehead was unbearable. I then purchased an XL, HJC 3/4 and was pretty satisfied with that as a non-full-face helmet. A little while ago, I either heard or read somewhere that different brands of helmets have different fits and feels. So, I decided to try on a helmet which was far more expensive than I thought I would ever consider. I also tried a XXL instead of just an XL (I got a big head). I couldn't take it out to ride with it, but I did try it inside the store, and I think I can begin to understand why they cost so much more. What a difference over the less expensive ones I have tried. It actually felt all right. The helmet I tried was a Shoei Multitec. It was really comfortable. Secure but not too tight, it was a positive first impression. So, I put a down-payment on it and thought I would check and see if anyone here has had any experience with this particular helmet and especially using it with a headset. I really hope that this will be a helmet purchase I won't regret. Not that I want to test it's safety effectivness, but I do need to (learn?) to be happy with it so I will use it. For those who know, is the Shoei Multitec pretty quiet? Are different size cheekpads available? Any concerns I ought to be aware of about them. The best price I have found through a local dealer is $410. Your opinions are appreciated. Be Safe! Pete.
  24. well this morning i saw my trailer at bush tech. Just to let you know its a nice one but, they wouldn't release the trailer. they said my hitch was not to there likening (safety) i asked them if we could spend a few mins to reinforce it. i told them it dont have to look pretty just to do the job. so i ended up with no trailer. then on the way home my clutch went i made it home almost, with just 70 miles to home plate. so one of my buds rode on home and then came back to get me with a trailer. FUN FUN FUN:draming:
  25. Hey all...I noticed something for the first time during a ride yesterday. I've had my 89 VR for about 6 months now and I'm really enjoying it. Yesterday I was riding with a small group of guys so I was driving a bit less agressively than usual. So I was doing more one handed driving than I ever do. So I noticed when the bike is in decel, throttle rolled back all the way, as the bike hits about 40 mph with one hand on the bars the front wheel starts to go into a pretty strong wobble. It is not a full tank slapper but it shakes pretty hard and I want to get both hands on the bars asap and this straightens it out quickly. When I do it with both hands on the bars I only feel a slight wobble coming through my hands. The wobble tends to disappear after my mph drops to around 35. one note: yesterday before the ride I did adjust my CLAS setting moving the front end from from a pretty low setting up to 18 lbs if memory serves me right. Anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this? The front steering head bearing was repacked about 5000 miles ago. the tires are elite 2s I believe. thanks everyone! Bob
