  1. I was at Radio Shack to get resistors for the battery light by-pass and the salesman showed me a smarter than me phone app called ELECTRODROID. This app covers way more than I will ever understand. But it's pretty cool.
  2. OK folks, I got a call from Dean a few days ago, username dksmith196958. His shop burned down a few weeks ago and his bike was heavily damaged. The insurance company wants to total it but doesn't want to pay him what he thinks it is worth. Basically the only damage is to all the plastic so he is looking for any parts that our members might have available. The bike is titled as an '85 but from his description, slant bags and the small trunk, I think it is probably an '84. So, if you have any parts available, please post here and I'll get the information to him. He has no phone or internet service right now as the wiring going into his home was burned and is not up and running yet. Just let me know either here or via PM what you have and the prices that you are asking for them. He also mentioned that he would consider buying a complete bike if that is what it takes.
  3. I'd like to talk to a plumber about my water leak. Any takers. If you reply I'll look up your phone in your profile. Thanks
  4. What is "everyone" using for Bluetooth communication? Is one brand better that another? Has anyone used the Chinese brands from Ebay? They're far less expensive and the reviews are positive. I use my RSV for business as well as pleasure so I need to have phone access when on the road. Don't want to miss that important call from a client. George
  5. Well we all went off and jumped off the deep end and took advantage of the black friday sale at metro pcs. So we all three go trapsing down there and buy us each one of those there so called smart alec phones. You could have fooled me it don't seem so smart to me . All weekend we have all three been holed up in different rooms trying to get aquainted with our new smart alec phones. None of us must be very smart alec phone savy cause we can't seem to be able to make any of them do right. Every once in a while one of us will let out a stream of them cursing words followed by threats to hurl them out the window. I'm about tempted to go down the street and find me a twelve year old to hire to show us how to work these dang things.
  6. I have a smart phone and use it for a speedometer, navigation and music on the bike (but refuse to use it as an actual phone while on the bike ) Anyway I have never been able to find a mount that I really liked, nor could I find one that would position it where I wanted it, so I had to make my own. I went to Radio Shack and started looking around and found a car mount system for $20 that I could cannibalize (don't tell BoomerCPO's pygmies though). I then used some mending brace and rubber lined P clamps and attached it to my mirror stem on the left side. The hardest part was finding a way to have at least a three point mounting for stability. As You can see in the pics there are three p clamps holding it in position. Additionally you will see that the piece that it all attaches to is actually setting on the top of the reservoir cover. All and all it makes it a very stable mounting. As for the swivel ball on the holder I had to used a grinder and flattened it out a little bit to accommodate the bolt head under it. This winter I will be cleaning it up by using shorter bolts. I will also be replacing the mending brace with metal strapping and will add rubber to the bottom where it sits on the reservoir. If I can find a local place to do it I might even get it chromed. One side note is that the holder squeezes the phone very well and I have never had it move or try to bounce out . . . well wait there was this one time I forgot to squeeze it shut and took of down the road. Lucky for me I looked over at it just as it was getting ready to leave my presence at 60 MPH and I was able to catch it in midair. I now have a small green rubber band around the top. It's isn't really there to hold the phone it's just a visual reminder to me to lock the phone in. No green no go. Here are some pics
  7. I was given a T-Mobile Motorola MB200 Cliq touchscreen, android phone. This thing has lots of apps on it, wifi, bluetooth, web. It does not have a sim card, nor do I want to activate the phone portion of it, but I would like to be able to use it for internet at spots with public wifi. Can this be done? I have tried and although it finds the wifi signal it will not let me connect and browse. What's this jailbreaking and will that let me do what I want to do?
  8. by the time you see this, you will have a phone call from, well you know yer welcome
  9. The following post from Freebird got me thinking. How can I determine how much data I currently use, to determine future options? I am possibility looking to change jobs, and the new employeer is asking me to be within 45 minutes distance, which would require moving. This weekend I looked at an interesting place, but severly lacking internet wise. ATT telco but no DSL, no CATV. Only saving grace is in sight of, and 5 bars of ATT 4G cell tower. Currently 4 computers at home running on catv 6meg service. Never download movie or music, but sometimes large document files. Lot of ebay and VR.org:). What would be options for home based cell internet? How can I now figure typical data use at current home? Any other suggestions-I know find different house.
  10. got a package from Amber my daughter today and i forgot to open it. well i just opened it and what do i see? a new cell phone an AT&T one nothing fancy just a samsung one with a camera. she said dear Dad im tired of you and that damn tracfone. i cant talk to you with out useing up your minutes. so Justin (son-inlaw) and I said you need this. it comes with 700 minutes and unlimited phone to phone? you can now call me anytime. boy is she asking for it now! so i have to learn this phone. im not good with new things. but now im at least in the circle? what do you do with kids like this?
  11. After finally getting fed up with Verizon and stupid bills, I have decided that I'm not going to pay for them anymore. Lonna and I have made the last cut from our Michigan roots and now have new cell phone numbers that reflect our TEXAS life. I have updated my profile info with the new # and will pass it on here for those that might want it. The new # is 936 232 9299, we ended up going with a Walmart family plan that is hosted by T mobile who will soon be under the AT&T umbrella. I have dropped $100 off my cell phone bill per month by doing this as for both Lonna and I it will be 70$ for unlimited talk and text....so buh bye Verizon, and rood riddance! I will be working on updating the call list of the old phones as I will cancel them at the end of this month.
  12. I received this info and thought it important enough to share with everyone. Thought this was good info from the Gov't of Canada ...if you have a cell phone. REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month. REMINDER..... all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls. .... YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS!! To prevent this, go to the following web-site for Canadian Telephone Numbers: www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca It is the National DO NOT CALL list It will only take a minute of your time.. It blocks your number for five (5) years. HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON .. It takes about 20 seconds. If you do not have a cell phone, send this email to your friends and family who have a cell and may not know about this recent event.
  13. Oh, was I gone?? Why, yes I was! Monday afternoon we had some really wild weather here in Western New York. We had 2 tornadoes touch down, heavy rain, and thunder and lightening. At around 6 PM our cable went out. No TV, no phone, and worst of all no internet!!! I was having withdrawal symptoms!! The fun part was getting the address for Marcarl's surprise birthday party for Marca. No internet meant I couldn't get the address, and no phone! Oh, wait, I own a cell phone!! Now where are the numbers to call Canada??? We made it to the party right on time thanks to Carl having his cell on. I will post on that later. Got home and found we finally had cable back!!!!!
  14. Am I the only one........or does anyone else find it strange that Comagination lists no phone number and no address on their website. http://www.headlightmodulator.com/ and/or http://comagination.com/ Don't know about you......but I'm a little reluctant to send hundreds of bucks to someone without a business phone........or ANY phone. Likewise with the address thing! Anybody out there own any of their products? Thanks, Michael
  15. Try talking like this into your cell phone... without turning it on. http://media.mtvnservices.com/player...noesi&ref=null
  16. Hey guys, Just wondering how many of you out there are using a smart phone instead of a dedicated GPS. After all, there's only so much room on our handlebars, and you can't beat the functionality of a smartphone. I'm using a smaller smartphone on my bike-it's about 2/3 the size of an I-Phone type phone. I wanted a smaller one so it would definitely fit on the handlebars and so I would still have room for my cupholder. The phone only cost $50 through Metro PCS and has all the usual Android features. Another great thing about the smaller phone is I was able to get a cheap phone holder at Wally World for about $8. I removed the back (designed to insert into an automotive AC vent), then used two zip ties to attach it to the handlebars. A lot less expensive than a Ram-type mount and uses up way less space too! I use a patch cord to hook it up to the accessory jack on the cassette player and everything plays right through the speakers. Of course I can play it through my helmet speakers too. It all works great. So instead of just GPS I can also play Pandora internet radio (for free) unlike XM. And of course you can play all of your MP3 music through it. And I can also make calls through the helmet microphone and helmet speakers. It will also voice dial for you. Only thing is I haven't perfected is the right intercom volume to be able to hear and be heard by the caller but will still reduce windnoise to a manageable level. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating using the phone often while riding, I think it's too dangerous. But for occasional use on a country road it's pretty cool to have the ability to do so if you're very careful. And of course on top of all that you've got the camera on the phone handy whenever you want to use it! I'm sure there's a lot of guys way smarter than me already doing this...I just wanted to throw it out there. Ride Safe, 1/2crazedbikr
  17. Trying "the GPS question" a diff way: Which is the least expensive Garmin(refurb Ok) GPS that supports MP3 and phone calls(via bluetooth) Was thinking of opening my Nuvi265WT and adding a mic in and audio out so I could then use buddyrich cable. But then how to get an external MP3 player attached as well and will a phone call mute the MP3? (don't think so) Can't afford ZUMO sp!ke
  18. In 34 hours we leave for Daytona Biketoberfest, at work now and counting down the hours, if anyone wants to meet up call my cell phone 229-567-7231 maybe we can get a group together, will be on main street at night. Gregg
  19. I'm still here!!! No Internet for three days!! How many were celebrating??? Thought you got rid of me didn't you!!! "Former" contractor chopped wires that go to phone and Sat wires. When it rained and it ran down the wires everything went out!! Phone went out,Internet went out and TV went out!!! What did we ever do before these things. I ain't telling how the Warden and I passed all that time with it cold and raining outside.... But I'm Still Here!!! Did I mention she cheats at cards???
  20. Greetings all. On my last big trip in April this year I had cause (need) to replace my mobile phone. Ended up with a Nokia N8-00, and boy is it a beauty. By playing around with it I have discovered a number of remarkable features, the least of which is that it has a standard 3mm audio jack outlet. To cut to the chase - if I run the phone through the auxiliary of the RSV and programme my phone, I can use it as a hands-free phone whilst riding (or stationary). It has 16GB of memory and I have loaded 1,520 mp3 music files onto it and I play that also through the audio out. I keep the phone charged using a standard Nokia 12V charger. I also have an internet radio application on the phone through which I can listen to thousands of radio stations from around the world - all whilst riding. If a phone call, text message or email come in the radio volume dies out for about ten seconds so the relevant alert tone can be heard. If it's a phone call I have auto answer and the music is auto-muted. The phone is mounted to the bars of the bike with a secure holder and I have a three-way 12V + USB outlet mounted to the top of my front brake master cylinder. Through that outlet I also run my GPS and the USB is handy for charging my 8GB MP4 player that I also use for music. Surely no need for a CD player or tape deck.
  21. So I am out in the back yard working on the house. This white van pulls up and the driver asks if I am interested in some asphalt work. He says that he is doing a major job in the area and will have some leftover asphalt, just enough to do my gravel drive. He then pulls a magnetic sign out of the back seat to show me who he is and the sign says that his rate is only $4.65 per sq ft. He said that since I would be helping him out by using his excess material he would do my job for $2.00 per sq ft. Hmmm odd that a contractor would keep his magnetic sign in the back seat and not where it could do some good. Looking at the area I determind it to be 20 x 30 or 600 sq ft. I asked him if he agreed with my area assessment and he said yes. He then told me that he could do the job for just $1375. Red flag number one. I said that was still more than I could afford right now and he dropped the job to $1000. I thought that was interesting and asked if I could call him back later tonight to let him know. I then asked him for a business card. He said he did not have one with him. they were all in his other truck at the job site. What business owner does not keep his wallet stuffed with cards. Red flag number 2. I did get his name and phone number. The phone number was from Framingham MA. I am in WI. Why would a local contractor have an out of state phone number. Red flag no 3 As soon as I got in the house after finishing what I was working on, I got on the puter ad Googled William Stanley and the phone number and got scam alerts from all over the country. They even had his picture in a NJ courtroom getting convicted of the paving scam. OK now I have a boatload of red flags. After reading the scam stuff, this guys spiel matched right down to his name and picture. The way the scam works is that he offers to do cut rate work for a real good price. once you accept he shows up and does some work and then hits you with a drastically inflated bill of more than 10 times the agreed price. He then gets nasty and threatens to take a contractors lien on your property. This guy is constantly moving across state lines. I have instructed my GF that if anyone shows up to try to do work to not answer the door or talk to them, call 911 immediately and THEN call me at work.
  22. Texans Gabriel went to the Lord and said, "I have to talk to you. We have some Texans up here who are causing some real problems.. They're swinging on the Pearly Gates, my horn is missing, and they are wearing T-shirts instead of their robes; there's barbecue and picante sauce all over everything, especially their T-shirts; their dogs are riding in the chariots and chasing the sheep. They are wearing baseball caps and cowboy hats instead of their halos. They refuse to keep the stairway to Heaven clean, and their boots are marking and scuffing up the halls of Wisdom. There are watermelon seeds and tortilla chip crumbs all over the place. Some of them are walking around with just one wing; and they insist on bringing their darn horses with them." The Lord said, "Texans are Texans, Gabriel. Heaven is home to all of my children. If you want to know about real problems, call the Devil.." So Gabriel calls the Devil who answers the phone and says, "Hello -- hold on a minute." When he returns to the phone the Devil says, "O.K., I'm back. What can I do for you?" Gabriel replied, "I just want to know what kinds of problems you are having down there with the Texans." The Devil said, "Hold on again. I need to check on something." After about 5 minutes the Devil returned to the phone and said. "I'm back. Now what was the question?" Gabriel said, "What kind of problems are you having down there with the Texans?" The Devil said, "Man, I don't believe this...hold on!!!!" This time the Devil was gone 15 minutes and when he returns he says, "I'm sorry Gabriel -- I can't talk right now!! Red Adair has put out the fire here and now Brown & Root is installing air conditioning!!!!" Always remember .... TEXANS SURVIVE .... despite the odds against them!!!
  23. Back in 2006 someone posted a link to an aftermarket 4 to 2 exaust collector without the "will break off baffle" for the first gens. this is that link-- http://markspipe.com/index.htm and I couldn't find anything about it! Besides cutting it open and re-welding it, does anyone know if this aftermarket collector is still made? Thanks Bill, P.S. glad you got your phone dried off Dano, kind of fitting RICE helped recover a Jap phone!
  24. rod

    Droid

If you have verizon and a Driod be advised they do not cover your phone with insuance. you have to have the extended warrantee and it is still a fight and you will loose. Pay every month for years (I started with Air Touch) The Droid Phone is designed to fail in 2 years. Be warned. Your insurance is no good unless you break it (hit it with a hammer if you have any problems) that is the only thing they cover. Once you try to have it fixed they screw you; again if you have any problem hit it with a hammer, they cover nothing other than that. I hope I have saved some of you some hassle I have had for the last 3 days. Back to a regular phone. Rod
  25. does anyone know if Allen and Patti are on vacation or closed for some reason? i have e-mailed and left phone message and no reply? they are always great to deal with, i sure hope they are just goofing off.:confused24:mike
