  1. I don't recall seeing this bike posted here before so I thought I'd set 'em up. Nice tribute to our folks in service.
  2. Ottawa

    Trailer

OK I would love to have a trailer and camp as I go but really how much time will I really have verse the cost to have it sit around 11 months a year??? I found one that I thought was nice for the price of $1900.00 CDN Thats just about $1900.00 for all you US bikers:thumbsup2: Anyway what do you think of this trailer??
  3. Got to ride a 2011 Victory vision monday, very nice bike, excellent handling on the interstate. My friend bought one Yesterday. white 2011 these bikes are very nice and equiped well, heated grip and set are standard. The 2011 drive train is much quieter than the 2010. Gregg
  4. Went on the Make A. Difference ride this morning. It's an annual ride to raise money for our local spinal and rehabilitation hospital. nice way to pay back for the care they gave me on several occasions. Got to take one of the nurses for a ride to a motorcycle festival in a country town. This town is recovering after deverstating bush fires, so nice to be able to inject some money into their local economy...and raise some at the same time
  5. The I-basket is the greatest thing since sliced bread, the wife and I went for a 2hr ride today and it was so nice nice to actually here the engine. should have done it long ago

  7. we are looking to buy a canoe. if anyone has one for sale and is within a 3 - 4 hour drive of Lake Charles, Louisiana, please give a PM. we don't mind buying new, but if we can find a nice one here that a member is wanting to sell, it would help both parties out. I don't mind a beater, but decent is usually preferable.
  8. I have the luggage available. Nice shape. No cracks. Saddlebags come with lids.
  9. Thought they did a pretty nice job of "updating" this bike. They changed more than just the color. http://newproductlaunch.kawasaki.com/Products/PhotosLarge.aspx?ProductId=495&PhotoId=141438&featured
  10. Now go figure, why would they do that to me????????? Yep, those kids of mine just made me Grandpa AGAIN!!!! Can you believe that? I mean, what's with them anyways,,,, I can get older all by myself, but no,,, they all think that I need all the help they can give. The particulars: The young thing was a week and and half late, so of course it had to be a girl. She wasn't too heavy, but a nice size, 9lb 13oz, so not quite ready for work yet. Born today at 1:10 pm, so was decent enough to have lunch time over and done with first, at least she's starting out with the right priorities. Food then play! Name is Aislinn, Malia, May Hodgins. Quite a handle to hang on to, hope she marries a guy with a short last name. That makes 15 grandkids total,,,, nice number, most teenagers are really nice at that age. Picture will come when available,,,, they all look the same anyways, right?
  11. I've decided I'm going to add a 2nd gen to the stable (I've got some plans for the 1st gen, but I'll save that for later). I know there's some nice ones in the classifides on here, but if anybody knows of a nice one under $8k within a few hours of East TN, please let me know. Thanks!
  12. Anyone thinking about hotel plans for MD? The comfort inn was ok with me, wasn't too far from dons house and was nice and clean. The fact they let a bunch of bikers hang out in front of building and drink was very nice. any other ideas?
  13. Don, Just wondering if it would be possible to put just a tad bit more info in a welcome post for new members? When I see someone from VA being welcomed I try and find where they are from. Maybe adding their home town, if you have it, would be nice. Instead of "Welcome Joe from Va" it would be "Welcome Joe from Manassas, Va". If I see that someone is clear across the state then I'm less likely to bother them to see where they are. Just a thought.
  14. Hi Guys, Does anyone know of a nice replacement radio for the old unit. Mine is not working in my 84. I just can't see spending all the time and money to try to chase down, repair and or replace this old system with more old parts. Doesn't anyone make a nice motorcyle sterio system with an intercom that can be retrofit into the bike????? Thanks for any ideas John
  15. Yesterday wife and I were out fooling around and stopped at a shop that handled both Yamaha and Can Am. Well, there sat this black RT (tourer) fully loaded. Just for grins and giggles we took it for a test ride. While I have to admit it's pretty cool not having to worry about holding up a 900 lb bike when at a stop light, I found the steering to be "loose". It was VERY sensitive (guy at the dealership says it takes a while to get used to it?) Wife reports the pillion is comfortable (though NOT as good as our RSV) but that it felt like it was shifting from side to side while we were riding. (not sure if that was just me fooling with the bars to get a feel for it or ??) Anyway, pretty nice machine but just a touch on the weird side. Anybody else ridden one? If so, what did you think of the steering/handling? I don't "think" I'd get used to the handling very quickly.....Also, having no hand brake lever on the right grip seems a little strange.. Must be getting a little "oldfarty":backinmyday:
  16. Was out window-shopping on ebay earlier and ran across a couple of real nice looking old XS11's. I don't think I've seen any that looked quite this good before. If they were a couple thousand miles closer I might even be interested in one for a backup ride if the bids didn't get too much higher. There's a blue 1980 here, and a 1978 Midnight Special here.
  17. I have been dealing without having a job since January 2009. Finally started back to work this week as a Mechanical Design Engineer at a plant 5 miles from home. I am working in new product development, which is a nice area to be in. They make small electrical sensors for cars, appliances, water heaters & related stuff. Last job was a 55 mile commute one way, so the 5 mile drive is great . It is nice to be productive again. On the down side, my mother in law was diagnosed with terminal cancer a week ago. The cancer is so advanced , there is nothing they can do for her. She is an old Kentucky hills woman that never went to the doctor. She was taken to ER last week and diagnosed with pneumonia. They made her go to a regular doctor and he found a large mass on one of her lungs and cancer had spread to throat and lymph nodes. She has probably known that something was wrong for sometime, but never said anything. There is nothing that they can do for her. At this point they can't even drain her lungs again. They put her on morphine this afternoon. She is on a full face respirator that is doing most of her breathing for her. My wife and her brother & sisters are constantly with her at hospital. She can pass at any time now. Gary
  18. Took a nice weekend bike trip with the family to Berlin, Ohio. Left Friday morning and made it down there about 4. Hit a few shops and relaxed the rest night. A week prior to our trip we phoned Hummingbird and told him our plans, he said he had nothing planned for that day and would love to meet us. Saturday morning we got up early and did some shoping. At 12 we met up with Dick and Linda, went for lunch and then rode to visit a local hardware store that everyone was telling us we had to see while there. After stoping at the hardware Dick was nice enough to take us on a nice 50 mile ride through the country and show us some beautiful scenery. Had a great time catching up and riding with Dick and Linda, thanks again to u both.
  19. A new member here jpbragwell1215 came by the house today. He rides a Tour Deluxe. We had a chance to compare bikes and talk a while. A really nice guy.
  20. The wife and I will be Motoring up to Lake George Next year for the Americade. (2011) does anyone know of a nice RV/Camp ground, that can handle the Bus? 40ft Winnabago with a 15 ft trailer. doesn't have to be a pull through site

  22. A few people were asking me how I like the new black ceramic Rinehart pipes on my bike after a week or so, so I have a good report to shed some light on how they sound, etc. The pipes mentioned in http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=51473 sound quite nice. I'm able to get out of the neighbourhood quietly enough without setting off alarms or waking up babies.. They have a nice rumble, the have a nice bark when you drop the hammer. And they cruise very well. My buddy and I did a 1300 mile trip to Mount Washington again, just for some video footage. We did the I95 doing highway speeds of 80+ mph (and we were being passed all the time.. wow) and some of the back roads from the I95 into NH and White Mountain range.. Very interesting results for performance and fuel mileage. Doing highway speeds, the noise is loud enough you'd want to wear earplugs. I wear then when highway traveling anyway to protect against wind noise so this isn't a big deal for me. The more load on the engine at highway speeds, as in head winds or hill climbing for example, the louder they will be. But when you're cruising nicely with little or no load, the pipes have this nice hum to them. As with most RSV, the faster you go, the more head winds you encounter, the worse your fuel mileage gets and compared to the trip we did in May-June with the other pipes, my highway mileage was about the same, very sucky lol. With speeds in the 80+ we got as bad as 35 mpg, which isn't bad considering, but averaged out around 38 mpg which is the norm for my bike. But it's when we hit the back roads doing 40, 50 and 60 mph that the mileage got interesting.. With the Rineharts on the bike, the bike feels to have a lot more torque than ever before. Whereas at higher gears and lower revs, you can open the throttle a little more and feel it pull more instead of having to open the throttle a whole lot before feeling any pull but you've dumped so much fuel for so little gain, your mileage would suck. However with the Rineharts, it actually pulls with little throttle applied. Very nice. On the flats I could cruise 50 mph in 5th around 2500 rpm, and when encountering a slight incline, a little more throttle would climb the hill and settle down nicely. If you've done the back roads between Maine and NH you'll appreciate how much nicer this was not having to shift down and up all the time. Again to emphasize, this is without lugging or chugging the engine.. Nice. The sound and noise level on the back roads is very tame and satisfying! A nice mellow deep tone which wasn't hard on the ears at all. I ride the back roads without ear plugs and the radio tunes coming out at volume 17.. typically at highway I would have it up to 21. When you climb hills and such, you get the barking of the pipes but it's not abrasive on the ears. Bottom line for "this" rider: Love the sound, love the performance.. the price was right, they look great on this bike, they sound smooth and mellow and give that satisfying bark when you drop the hammer.. I love it when someone comments "Now THAT's what a Harley should sound like" not realizing it's a Yamaha, and I reply.. "yes, you're right, this IS what a Harley should sound like, thanks!".. and ride away.. hehe (as a note, my buddy rode with my Larossa pipes on his bike and I could hear him behind me.. drowned out my tunes!! lol.. )
  23. Life takes us down many roads, some we navigate, some are navigated for us. Along the way, decisions have to made when we find ourselves at crossroads. I've decided it's necessary to sell my 2008 RSVS. With just over 4k it'll last someone a LONG time. The price is right, PM me and I'll send pix and a list of nice touches. (email, speedyg@nsatel.net). I'm not leaving VR, fact is I just renewed my membership. RENNE
  24. I installed a pair of black ceramic coated Rinehart slip ons on my RSV and wow, what a a nice sound! Once the pipes are seasoned in the sound is softened and still throaty with a nice bark when you drop the hammer, yet at cruise the sound is louder than normal but not at all harsh. They look awesome on a Midnight RSV. I'll see if I can some audio / video for how they sound if people are interested. I got these at a cut rate from a Canadian company, nice!
  25. Today Moped and I went to a festival in Shandon, Ohio. There was a tractor, car, and bike show! I will post some of the car photos in another thread soon. However the interesting story here, is the bike that one. I unfortunately could not take a photo of it, because my camera battery died right at that moment. The winner was a 1988 Venture Royale. It was in perfect condition too. It was a pearl white two tone color scheme. Really looked nice. At the time the winner was announced, we were talking to a guy who was selling his 02 Indian motorcycle. His friend had a homemade chopper in the contest too. He received a plaque, but the guy with the Venture won a big trophy. I do not think they were very happy that the Venture won. It was a really nice one too. Yama Mama
