  1. Hey guys. I have never given the pass seat a second though but The weather is getting better na dmy wife and daughter are wanting to ride with dad!. the pass seat on mine is mounted with one screw at the tail but this is not enough to keep it secure. the seat still moves to the left and right. Is there something that i am missing or is it that the rubber grommets under the seat are compressed and need to be replaced. While working on my buddys venture i noticed his seat had a whioel different bracket to mount to.
  2. After much deliberation, I had Avon Venom tires mounted on my RSV '08. The stock tires lasted a year (15,000 km). The point of my post is the warnings from the dealer: "Ride carefully for 100 - 400 km, as the tires are slippy. Be specially careful if it's wet." And I was asked to sign a waiver which confirmed I had heard their warning. I understand that tires have a compund sprayed on them to preserve them while sitting on a shelf. Surely there is something you could rinse the tires once they are being mounted to minimise that new slipperiness? It's showering this week-end in Vancouver, BC... kinda like April weather! So it may be a while before I can properly test the tires to see if Avons on a Venture are as good as they were on my previous two bikes.
  3. Been at the drawing board again. There always seems to be one more lil improvement that can be done. This lil creation takes care of two, maybe three things that I wanted to take care of. So not much fun in just saying what it so I'll just post a few pics and let ya guess. It's in raw condition now waiting for the epoxy to dry and will be ready for the final sanding and a few coats of paint and clear coat over the next couple of days. When it's done and mounted I'll post the finshed project. So have at it. Mike
  4. Todays project was getting the battery box fabricated and installed. Made a two piece box out of 1/8" aluminum. Mounted a front coil bracket from a VMax on the bottom. This bracket will hold the two front cylinder coils & the Vboost motor. Rear pair of coils will be mounted rear of the back heads under the fuel tank. That's tomorrows project. Using the VMax rear bracket for those. One thing that comes to mind. Don't try this at home kids !!. Unless you have a lot of patience and enjoy tinkering with stuff. Getting some of this stuff to fit up right has been a series of try it, remove it, rework it, repeat, repeat. But it is fun. I am having as good a time rebuilding this bike as I will riding it. Gary
  5. I guess this can really go for any 3" tach. Can you post pictures of how you have it mounted to your scoots? Anybody have a Baron's mini-tach for sale?
  6. Ok, I finally got around to installing the Shindegen R/R that Dano hooked me up with a while back. Game plan.....under the seat install. No problem. Yeah right. Seems to be a lil tight under there or maybe my big tail section has just compessed it more than it should be. Maybe. But I ended up installing it inside the left fairing mounted on the black inner fairing. I got rid of the amp for the cassette deck long ago and had a lil room to play with there. So I got it mounted up tonight and ran the new harness and capped the old wire and fired it up. Don't fret about the connectors.....it will all be soldered together tomorrow. I know some of you have done this mod already but I was impressed with the output and how stable the charge was. The OEM R/R would always show a bit on ramping up and down on the digtal volt meter. Not this thing. I didn't get a good reading at idle yet as the bike was cold and I didn't run it very long but when I reved it up it jump right to 14.4 and sat there. No ramping at all. I threw on the two 65 watt driving lights (the true test) and it dropped to 14.2. And sat there. No ramping. Not bad. So between Buckeyes upgrade stator, the Shindengen R/R and the DEKA AGM battery I don't think it can get any better than this. Great combination. Some days ya win one. Mike
  7. I have been looking at the "tank" bags. So I was wondering what do people here use? IS there a way to make the magnetic mounted bags work on a Venture? Shaun
  8. Carl, I saw in another thread you weren't comfy on the first Gen. due to long legs/over 6' tall Would a set of pegs like this help. They are strong, a lot better than the engine guard mounted ones. Last picture is for reference of bike with knee air deflectors still on. Gary
  9. Any Colorado Springs Riders out there know where the best (and least expensive) place is to get my new tires mounted for my '06 RSV? Thanks!
  10. Does anyone know anything about a 1987 Suzuki VS 700 Intruder? Saw one on Craig's List near here and looks like a decent deal. Photos make it look like it is in good shape. It has a corbin seat, slip on pipes and drag bars mounted. Seems that this could be a next bike for my 16 year old son. They are asking $2500, but we would offer less than that, somewhere around $1800 to $2000. Thanks, Dave
  11. Has anyone figured out how to use a bluetooth communications system (like the Cardo Scala G4) with more than 4 people. Like bluetoothing a fmr radio or something like that? I am working on converting a handle bar mounted CB like this. I was hopeing their was an eiser way. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=55849
  12. Does anyone know if the MkI and MkII rotors are compatible? I'd like to get some slotted ones off an '87 for sale on eBay mounted on my '83.
  13. The trike I have is based on an 05 midnight venture . The trike was "cobbled up " rather than using a complete kit. The speedometer jumps around and the cruise control doesn't work , due to the unevenness of the input at the pickup level , I think. The impulse wheel used is a fan from an alternator , and the pickup is mounted at the side of the wheel. The fan is not mounted on center of the universal joint. It wobbles. So back to the original question. What is needed to make the speeometer pickup system work properly? Help!
  14. After researching different antennas on line I found a good deal on an amplified AM-FM antenna at my local PEP Boys! The unit cost $19.99 + tax. I tested and mounted it below the windshield. It works better than the original 48" CB whip. Attached are a few photos for anyone interested in the install.
  15. :confused24:OK,I just finished servicing the final drive on my 99 RSV.I used instructions I down loaded from this site, everything worked out just fine until I noticed that my brakes are not mounted the same way as the brakes in the pictures in the instructions.my rear calipers are mounted below the swing arm.Ever picture and diagram i have seen shows the caliper mounted above the swing arm.my mounting bracket is totally different.everthing hangs below the swing arm.Can anyone explain this????
  16. Again, thanks for all the help yesterday. I got the wires spliced and bought a 50amp toggle switch as per the tech. library. Question is, I had grip heaters and already have a toggle switch mounted on the plastic cover over the gas cap. I have no idea how many amps it is? It was mounted to heat my grips and had both a low and high setting. I no longer use the heaters and have removed them, but left the switch. Can I us this toggle switch instead of mounting another? Do I really need a 50 amp switch?
  17. I installed some 7" electric brakes on the Timeout camper and tried it out yesterday and I really like. I used the Podigy controller and have it set with no noticable pull on the bike, the trailer feels like it is stopping with the bike. Stops or much better and quicker. I tried a few 60mph emergency stops and she stops good and smooth. Down hill don't feel the trailer pushing me. I know some will not agree with doing this but I feel much better having them on with a 345# trailer. Another thing is I mounted the controler on the trailer with the hot wire comming from the battery with a switch mounted on the bike where I can cut it off if needed (flat tire, slow manuvering , one brake quits working etc.) I found this idea on delphi motorcycle trailer forum and many on there have there's mounted this way with no ill effects. My computer is down so I'll post some pics later.
  18. I mounted a new Dunlop E3 rear tire last week - carefully positioned the dot with the valve stem - only took 1/2 oz to perfectly balance the tire. That is the way it SHOULD be. But alas, on the way back from Don's carnival, with only 5 days and 3.000 miles on that tire, I picked up a big screw that damaged the sidewall and destroyed the tire. So with great sadness I ordered a new Dunlop E3 - came in this morning and I mounted it this afternoon. Same wheel, of course, and I carefully positioned the dot exactly with the valve stem, but did it take 1/2 oz???? Or even 1 oz or 2 oz?? Nooooooooo - How about FIVE oz of lead to pull this cruddy tire into balance? Yeah, you read that right - 5 oz! I ordinarily can't accept any tire that takes more than 3 oz of weight to balance, but this time I just wimped out. Shoulda broken the tire down and rotated it on the wheel to try and find a better balance spot, but it was dumping rain and I was just too danged lazy. And since I ordered the tire on the web, it wasn't easy to go demand a replacement, so I ended up just accepting the 5 oz balance.. But I still get to whine about it, don't I? Never had that kind of wild weight shift with Avons - just another reason I may go back to the Venom on this bike. Goose
  19. I needed to replace the tire on the front of my RSTD and had done the rear tire about a month ago. I used the Michelin Comander and really like the tire so I ordered the same for the front. Shop just about 200 yards from me ordered one and I made arrangements to have it mounted first thing in the morning so I could go riding afterward. I got back from running errands and stopped to pick it up and the owner told me the sticker on the tire said it was a front but it turns out it was the back tire. So he called the dist and they didn't have any fronts in the comander. It seems they are coming out with a comander II and have run their stock out and there are none available anywhere. So the owner ended up ordering a Dunlop elite 3 which is about 30 bucks more but gave it to me for the same price. Mounted it and put the tire back on last night. I hope I like this tire. Headed to WV for a week of riding the roads down there.
  20. Was wondering if any of you have bought the coffee mug/holder? Had a couple of questions: 1) Does it mount on either side of the bars. In thier photos it is only shown mounted on the right side off the brake fluid resevior, was wondering if it would mount on the left off the clutch resevior? 2) Does it block access to any of the controls? Looks a little big with the handle taking up a good amount of space. I've got a friend that has the Kuryakyn version mounted on his HD, and its handy for water/coffee at stoplights or in traffic. Really good on hot days to keep hydrated. Works for him, but of course the mounts are different. As always appreciate any throughts. Ride Safe. Bob
  21. Just wanted ya ta know I put dat tire I bought from you at M.D. on yesterday. I figured I had better do it before I go on Vacation in two weeks in the U.P. I had 21,294 miles on that Avon Viper without any cracks. I am happy with these tires. I took the wheel off and then ran it up to the dealer and had it mounted and balanced for $20. I waited for only 20 minutes and back home I went. Thanks for the good deal Larry. Hope you and Joyce are doing great.
  22. What do you think painted to match and mounted on my RSTD 08???
  23. For those with auxilliary driving/fog lamps......where and how do you have them mounted? I've read several articles on wiring them and I'm ok in that department. What I'm mulling over is where did you mount them? Do you have them mounted to the fairing?, clamped to the engine guards? Did you have to drill holes in the fairing or is there a specific mounting bracket? Any advise is welcome......and as I've so often read here "pics would be better."
  24. For those of you who have installed an aftermarket tach. Which one are you using? Is it handlebar mounted or mounted in some other fashion?
  25. Ruffy - I've only had the wind wings for 6 months or so, hard to believe it took so long to get them mounted.
