  1. Larry, When you and "T" went out to cover your scoot Saturday night, did either of you take my bike for a spin? When I started out of the parking lot Sunday morning, I noticed the "MAX SPEED" entry on my Garmin was 141mph!!!!!!! Yeah I should have taken a picture of it...
  2. Saw a 1st Gen on my way to work this morning. Just wanted to identify myself. Don
  3. I have a set of Khrome werks of my new to me 2002 venture. They are just a bit to loud and I'm sure I'm waking neighbors up at 4:30 in the morning comming home from work. I was wondering if they can be repacked to make them a quieter?
  4. I just returned from a 2000 mi trip on my trusty 1989 Venture. I was close to Canada so the mornings were chilly! Each morning when I would get to the bike there would be a spot, about the size of a small plate, of antifreeze under the right side of the motorcyle. I would top off the expansion tank and about 5 minutes later the leaking stopped and would not appear until the next morning. Now I am back in the Midwest and it has not leaked a drop since I returned. Any ideas?
  5. So i went to the darkside yesterday morning...the dealer set me up at 36 psi rear on my kuhmo and 36 psi on the front (avon cobra)...i adjusted it down to 33 psi this morning and have put 500 miles on the tires already with absolutely ZERO negative experience...in fact, she handles better than before!!!! BUT...ive been anticipating this dreaded wobble i hear others talk about... Then tonight, on my way home from a "bike night" it happened... I had my 7 y/o on the back and at about 45 mph just going through town I felt the whole rear of the bike start dancing all over the place...i was freaked out and upset and disappointed and worried...that was until i looked in my mirror and saw my little one rocking out to the katy perry song on the ipod! She was having just the best ole time back there! PPPHHHEEEWWW!!!!! it wasnt the tires that were causing the wobble!!! It was HER!!! BTW...The cookies were better today than they were yesterday!!!
  6. Where is gunkylump and Beth? Did the Texas wind take them away? Haven't heard from ya's in a day or two. Hope all is well. I met up with Ian on the Canadian side this morning. I have his old shock now. Give us a heads up on how your doing Gunk.
  7. The old coot has disappeared again, I think. I haven't seen him around here for quite some time. Has anyone gotten a ransom note from some pygmies? Edit....I see he was lurking here this morning, but hasn't posted in over two weeks.
  8. Recieved and checked everyones order tonight...will package them up tomorrow evening and get them in the mail Saturday morning..thanks for your orders girls....
  9. Due to a change of plans we stayed longer in Milwaukee than we expected. Left Saturday morning at 6am and arrived back in Calgary 6:30 pm Sunday. The route we took: http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Milwaukee,+WI,+United+States&daddr=47.10246,-104.76903+to:Calgary,+Alberta&geocode=Fba4kAIdVqfC-innR4tX1wIFiDGEe0G1IhlfRA%3BFfy5zgId-lnB-SkBqDKKlyclUzEvBPM-guKFxA%3BFYjiCgMd-p8z-SnVP4SfA3BxUzE6tlK2sTttJg&hl=en&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=5&via=1&sll=47.04596,-100.983405&sspn=25.600726,47.724609&ie=UTF8&ll=47.338823,-100.898437&spn=25.461777,47.724609&z=5 was 1620 miles according to google...I'm tired this morning!
  10. Took a nice weekend bike trip with the family to Berlin, Ohio. Left Friday morning and made it down there about 4. Hit a few shops and relaxed the rest night. A week prior to our trip we phoned Hummingbird and told him our plans, he said he had nothing planned for that day and would love to meet us. Saturday morning we got up early and did some shoping. At 12 we met up with Dick and Linda, went for lunch and then rode to visit a local hardware store that everyone was telling us we had to see while there. After stoping at the hardware Dick was nice enough to take us on a nice 50 mile ride through the country and show us some beautiful scenery. Had a great time catching up and riding with Dick and Linda, thanks again to u both.
  11. We will be in PF Saturday, where is everyone gonna be?Will be there sat morning around 10 or 11 am.
  12. Well this morning, on the way to work, I was passing a gas station that is right before the entrance to the highway (I-25) The exit to the gas station exits, pretty much, right into the SB exit lane and then you go over the overpass for the NB entrance. I take the NB entrance. There's lots of construction in this location right now so it's even more of a mess than usual. So I usually am a bit more cautious and go a bit slower in this area anyhow. Anywho... I'm tooling along and I see this guy on a bike sitting facing the way I'm headed, back to me, getting ready to leave the gas station. He wasn't at the pumps, kind of on the outskirts of the parking lot. My first thought is, I wonder if he's going to just buzz right onto the road, I'm traveling on, without stopping or looking. Keep in mind this is really, really early in the morning, like 1:15 am so, in his defense there aren't a boat load of cars out at this time of the morning. So I back off of the throttle a little more in anticipation of a possible bonehead move. My suspicions were realized when he just takes off, doesn't slow down or even look and pulls out right in front of me. Man I wish I could have found the horn button faster, but I did get in a good toot to let him know he should stop and look. Moral: It isn't only cagers that pull bonehead moves that can get you hurt!!
  13. Pat and I are going to Gatlinburg this Friday and staying til Sunday morning. Wondering if anyone is going to be nearby and would like to meet up for the day? Let us know. Then we are leaving sunday morning (Aug 22) for Myrtle Beach for a couple nights. Anyone there? Then we are going to Gordonsville, VA Wed (aug 25)...???? Then back to Pigeon Forge, TN on Friday (Aug 27)...then it's home. Maybe we will get to meet some of you out there. It's going to be an awesome ride. Hope we can hold up! LOL Let us know.. Don
  14. now this was scary this morning.. I had been away visiting family yesterday and had to leave the bike out in the heavy rains overnight.. because I have a dodgy ignition key slot cover, I put electrical tape over the hole where the key goes in to prevent it from flooding.. This morning, I go to the bike and go to start it: Key goes in, turn key, electricals come on as normal and with the bike in neutral, I hit the starter and the engine turns once to what feels like to a full compression then stops.. Another press of the starter button and the bike starts normally, runs normally and all is good. That 'stop at compression' thing happens every once in a while, not sure what causes it or what it means but it doesn't seem to cause any harm.. 10 minutes later I'm leaving and pull into a gas station for a fill up.. This time when I go to start the bike, I get that odd 'cranking over to full compression stop' but now all the electricals are out.. ooops!! Turn the key full to the right, red switch ON, no headlight, no radio, no instrumentation, nothing.. wow, its like the battery got disconnected.. no smell of arching or burnt wires, check the ignition fuse and it's good. huh? Nothing.. I move the bike out of the way of the pumps and try it again.. nothing.. nothing. No juice.. ouch.. I'm 500 km away from home and prolly 5000 kms from a decent Yamaha dealership that could help me out.. I cycle the kick stand a few times, remembering something in an article about this.. not sure though.. I wait 10 minutes while chatting with someone about how nice my 'harley' looks etc.. huh.. And then the bike starts as if nothing was wrong.. Mind you, the radio has to have it's channels reset and the trip odo went to full odo as if the bike had it's battery disconnected. So odd! The bike ran well and well, I decided I had better head for home. Luckily for me I had a spare key on the bike so when I had to do fuel stops, I left the ignition "on" with the key but killed the engine with the red switch, used the spare key to open the gas cap.. I was leery of wanting to turn off the ignition switch with the key in case I could no longer get juice through the system again like it did earlier this morning. When I got home, I shut the bike off via key and turned it back on.. every thing is back to normal as if nothing wrong ever happened this morning.. I've been back out several times this evening to see if I could duplicate the error but nothing.. it's all good.. (knock on wood).. So the question is "what happened this morning" ?? Will it happen again? I'm worried this is going to develop into an intermittent problem like my fuel pump did to me last summer.. it would fail every so often but never enough to be properly diagnosed until it finally died the big death.. I'm thinking I will soon need to replace the whole ignition switch (where the key goes in) since the spring loaded slot cover doesn't slide over anymore.. Does anyone have any ideas or comments on what happened or what I should do? $136 for a new switch..

  16. My lower left fairing mysteriously got cracked. I came out to the garage one morning and there it was. Does anyone here have one at a reasonable price?
  17. Peggy and I are on a mini vacation, We left home Friday and went to the North Ga. M+E. From there we rode over to Acworth,Ga. then Sunday morning we rode up to Townsend Tn. When we checked into the hotel I disconnected our trailer, to roll it into the room. It's a small Tag-Along trailer. Anyway as I was rolling it in I was hearing a chirping sound. I took off the wheel and hub and found the inner bearing was worn. So we started looking for a place to get new parts. Sunday night the streets are rolled up nothing open. Panic set in then I started looking at the VR assistance section and found Jim Garner from Maryville,Tn. (He owns a NAPA Auto store) I called him Sunday night and explained my problem. He said to get the hub to him Monday morning. Well let me tell you Jim changed the two bearings greased the new ones installed a new seal. All in about an hour. What a great bunch of people we have here on this forum... If you're ever in the Maryville, Tn. area and need something from an auto partsstore. Stop in and get it from Jim. He went out of his way to help me Thanks Jim:thumbsup2:
  18. With help from many members here and the great documentation on the site, I put on a new set of Dunlop E3's and regreased all the necessary spots although I did not take apart the drive shaft. The hub pins were badly rusted but I didnt see any other issues. So I take it out for a ride this morning to break in the tires and I have a new problem. A new noise coming from the rear end. Its a pulsating sound that changes with speed. If I pull the clutch at any speed the noise get far louder. I dont see any marks on the tires so I assume somethign is wrong with the drive train back there. Other then this issue, there are no problems with braking, engine, power handling. Any advice is appreciated. I'll be tearing it down again this morning.
  19. I got a little free time so far in the morning. Anybody know a easy way to line that air box up when you get the horns that sit on the carbs out of whack?? I've aleays had a hard time with those things anyway. Maybe take all 4 boots or horns whatever you call them out of the box put them on carbs and then mount box to them? I just don't want to waste all the free time I have in the morning fighting it. Could get some more of it togather. I have someone to watch Warden in the morning. Not going to chance leaving her by herself without a watch dog!! I will only be outside but I know her. Those Air Boxes always give me fits. Got to be a easy way. I'll be on it as soon as it gets light enough to see down in there.

  21. I'm not sure if this should be here or in the jokes section. I'm just reporting the news. Enjoy or cringe as you feel necessary. June 11, 2010 12:41 PM State troopers say a man and woman injured early Friday morning in a motorcycle wreck were both naked when the bike they were on veered off Meadowview Road in Jacksonville. http://www.jdnews.com/news/class-79265-bodycopyrag-motorcycle.html
  22. I bought this Olympus C-4000 digital camera Sat at a garage sale for $1.00. I mounted it on the bike this morning for my ride to Tulsa to have some breakfast with my Sr. Homies, just to get a feel how it was going to work. Do you think I got my dollars worth? http://www.photoshow.com/watch/Wa7Ft3Cu Phill
