    89 owners manual

Is there anywhere that I can down load an owners manual????
  4. besides the dealer, is there a suggested place to buy a service manual for an 88 VR, I am near OWEN SOUND Ontario Canada......... anybody have a spare copy?, I figure I will do a preventive maintenance this winter in preparation for a trip to the east coast of canada in late spring/early summer thanks as always in advance
  5. i have the 07 the manual says you can air the shocks up and tells psi but says o is standard. if this is right normal riding is ok at 0 are should i air them up?
  6. ......how to check the engine oil level, in my '83 VR. I had heard, somewhere, that there was a little window where the level of the engine oil could be viewed. I have looked all over the sides of my bike, but could find nothing of the sort. I have also been moving back & forth through the downloaded service manual but, alas, there was nothing to be found. Even a search through the PDF reader failed to pull anything up (though I am sure that it must be in there, somewhere). I really need to know how to check the engine oil level, and would appreciate someone outlaying the blueprint for me - OR, directing me to the page where I could find what I am looking for, in the service manual. Advanced thanks.
  7. Guys: Want to get a shop/repair manual for an 05 RSV. Who has one, what is the ISBN? Found up to 04 RSV, don't know if there is any difference, really need to find an 05 manual. Sponge Bob It's a dry heat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. I took my 83 Standard out for a short ride last night and the turn signals just stopped working. The lights and the indicator do not come on at all. I checked the fuse and its fine. My hazard lights work as well as everything else electrical is fine. I suppose I need to give in and buy a service manual for this thing. I have the pdf manual for the 1300 that someone here was kind enough to send me a while back, but I'm not sure if the componets are the same, as well as the wire colors etc. Here are a few questions I could use some help on. My bike is scheduled to get state inspected for license renewel next week, so I'm in a bit of a jam to get these turn signals working. Does the 1200 Standard have a self canceling device? Is there a relay wired between the switch and the flasher unit? Where is the flasher located? Electical troubleshooting is generally one of my strong points, I'm just not sure what componets this bike has and where the heck are they? Any help mucho appreciated! Tim
  9. OK I started on the rebuild of my Clutch Slave Cylander, and following the instructions in my service manual, it says remove the middle gear case cover and then says "NOTE: ...be sure oil does not leak out of the case." Well. oil did leak out of the case, about a half a cup, give or take. Well, the manual doesn't say what to doif it does leak. So, what is it trying to tel me?? Careful, oil may leak out so replace it, or if it leaks it means you have a bad gasket or seal somewhere?? Any ideas???
  10. Need some help here. I bought an 05 RSTD, and after a month and a half of riding, it was time to change the oil. I have read every thread concerning oil there was to offer here on the site, and finally decided on what I wanted to purchase. The manual calls for "3.91 US qt with filter cartridge replacement" I drained oil, and let it drain for about 20 minutes, changed the filter, and proceded to refill with the new oil. After completing the job, I noticed that the Engine Oil Check Window was full, but thought it might change after starting the engine....it didn't. SOOOO I drained out the oil until the level was between the minimum and maxium level on the window. Even though I had carefully added EXACTLY 3.91 US qt, it was 1 quart OVER FULL. My question is: What Happened? Is the manual wrong? Have any of you had this happen? What is the correct procedure: to fill with the manual required amount, or just to the "full line" on the oil check window? Haven't had anything like this happen on any other bike I have owned. I hope some of you can help me understand what is happening, or at least tell me if you have noticed this yourselves. This is my first post, and hope you guys can help. I enjoy the site a lot, and the information is a lot of help. Thanks! Lowflyer07
  11. I've got a friend who just bought a 1995 Virago 250. She didn't get an owners manual and, on her way home, someone rolled down their window and said that her chain was loose. Actually they said "Hey buddy, your chains loose" (thought that was cute). Does anyone know where I could download an owners manual or service manual for this bike or does anyone know the proper tightness for the chain?
  12. Is anyone aware of an online service manual for the RSV? If not, does anyone know of a manual on CD? And maybe a dumb question, but... Is changing the oil on RSV the same (just as easy) as my Vstar 650?
  13. Hey I would like to speak with someone that has a manual and would be kind enough to look up something for me. Or if someone has a manual in pdf format they could send or I could download.
  14. http://labs.trunkful.com/LIT-11616-12-60.pdf I would hurry on this or if you can pass it around. Once the word gets out you can bet it will be pulled. It's a 53 meg file and also is not the fastest download out there. Also if you need the owners manual it is http://labs.trunkful.com/LIT-11626-16-15_18.pdf
  15. I need to ask this only because I'm on the road and don't have my owner's manual or shop manual with me. When checking the antifreeze level in the tank behind the right side cover, is the bike supposed to be level and balanced or leaning over on the side stand? It makes a huge difference in what the level reads. The bike in question is a '96 Royal Star, if that makes any difference. TIA.
  16. Desiccant Canister The following E-Mail was was written to Bench Wrench (Fred Vogt) when he was writing that column for the VTS Motorcycle Roads and gives the answer to how to refresh the desiccant in the canister attached to the Class air pump. Fred: Thank you for answering my inquiry so quickly. You were concerned about my reason for being in my bike's desiccant canister. Well like I said I just recently purchased this machine and have no maintenance history on it. Being mechanically inclined I bought a service manual, micro fiche, and have been on line trying to find out as much as I can while performing the initial maintenance on it. Both the owners manual and service manual tell me to replace the desiccant every two years or sooner if used in areas of high humidity. Wanting to do a thorough job I opened the canister and found the BB sized silica gel colored a very light color blue. I thought that odd because the service manual mentioned colorless when new, and turning pink when time to replace - no mention of blue. Naturally I was stumped when they turned dark blue upon heating them up. That's when I made my inquiry. I have since learned something about silica gel desiccant, it can be regenerated with heat. Furthermore the beads I had in my bike were of the indicating type, they were made with a "0.4 TO 0.5% cobaltious chloride" content. In translation, blue is dry, dark blue is very dry. They turn pink when saturated and can be baked blue over and over again. Sounds to me like Yamaha really wants my money at $48 a pop. Needless to say I just baked my beads in the oven at 250 degrees for two hours till they were nice and blue then poured them back into the canister for another two years. Amazing what a little information can do for ya! Again many thanks for maintaining the bench Wrench site, I've learned quite a bit, web page helped tip the balance in favor of my getting this bike. After having worked on my machine these past few weeks I can say I am not disappointed! Thanks, Broderick J. Maher NOTE: I received this tip from another member here. "I came across the mention of refreshing the desiccant for the Class and the high cost for the stuff from Yamaha, and I wanted to mention that you can get it relatively cheap from any place that sells dryer for hearing aids. It is the same stuff and you can get a whole can of it for under $10." He told me that he found it at Walgreen's.

2questions. #1 Where is the audio control and cb modules located? #2 My rear shock doesn't hold air very well. Is there a reason for this? I finally got a CD service manual and didn't see a location for the modules or any kind of trouble shooting section in it. any help appreciated. Bill
  18. I have usually changed my own tires using standard tire irons since the 70s. With this method, disk brakes don't really get in the way. However, I have recently started using a manual tire changing machine (from Harbor Freight). This works great, and the effort is much less than with tire irons, but so far I have only used it on my rear tire. Since the rear only has one disk and the wheel can be put in the changer with the disk down, it is not an issue. However, I am not sure how to deal with the dual-disk front wheel. Does any one here have experience using a manual tire changer with a dual-disk wheel? Do you have to remove one of the disks? Thanx! Goose
