Ok, I give up... where's the fuse located for the 12 v cigarette lighter plug? Interestingly enough the fuse box itself is not mentioned in the official Yamaha manual. What's up with that..... thanks

I notice my turn signals sometimes auto-cancel, and sometimes I have to turn them off. How do they work? Do they cancel after a time-out, after leaning into a turn, etc? My owners manual doesn't seem to mention it.

Ok...here goes....dumb new owner question.....do the turn signals on the RSTD turn off automatically? It seems to me that sometimes they do, and sometimes they do not.....I could not find anything in the manual about it....is this a feature I have, but did not know about?

Hi, I have an intermittent problem with my brake fluid indicator on the dashboard computerized diagnostics screen. Have verrified that my fulid levels are ok but sometimes get the dash (0) brake fluid low indicator coming on. It seems to happen vaguely associated with steep left turns but not all. The one pulling away from the stop sign at the end of the road at my dads place seems to do it. I winter the bike in my dad's garage and it has happened other years where first time out of there I get the indicator on at that turn. Usually it goes away on its own next ride and doesn't turn up again till the following year. This year however it has been happening more frequently. As I say I have the fluid levels all up to snuff. So I look in my bike manual at the schematic wiring diagagram and it shows the two brake fluid level switches are wired in series with one another to black which I assume is ground. Then in the trouble shooting section I read that to test the switches one should remove both from the master cylinders and test continuity across them. It says that when the swtich units are standing upright (picture shows wires at the bottom) in no fluid there should be zero ohms across them and when turned upside down (wires at the top presumeably), there should be infinity ohms across them. Unless the switches mount upside down, (manual doesn't say) I don't see how both things can be true. Logically, in a series circuit, you'd need both switches closed when all is well. If either of them sense low fluid they should go open interrupting the circuit. Yet the description seems to show the reverse. I tend to beleive the diagram. Any one know for sure which way is up? Any one have similar problems with brake fluid indicator ? I hear that the back of the computer monitor dash board thing is a common place for broken solder connections, I suspect that is where my trouble is, any thoughts? Thanks, Brian H Uxbridge Ont

So the other day when I was swapping out my Intake Manifolds I came across two "Air Vent Hoses" as they are called in the service manual. They came off the shafts liking the carbs and ran under the gas tank to the front fairings. Here's where it get disturbed. The hoses terminated inside the fairing. They were just sort of 'tucked in' there with no cap or plug or filter. That just seems very odd to me given the engineering labyrinth the intake system has turned out to be that the engineers would not have somehow protected these tubes from taking in dust or whatnot. So I have two questions for you wise, knowledgeable and good-hearted folk: 1. Are the vent hoses supposed to go to nowhere? 2. WTF O? (for those who have never been around military folk, that means "What the F#!k, Over? It may not make sense to you at first if you've never heard it, but say it a dozen times and it begins to feel natural) I've attached a scan of the page of the service manual. The entire manual appears to make no further mention of these tubes again. thanks in advance!! DJC

I am finally about to reinstall my engine. Please don't ask what I was doing. I am embarassed enough and here's another embarrassing thing. But my question is that the motor mounts have a "D" shape at the ends. My '86-'87 OEM manual does not specify the exact way these should face. The OEM factory manual has pictures of the engine in various stages of disassembly. But I am not sure if I shoud go by these pictures? And looking at the long term wear on them. I can figure out the rear mounts. But the front...I am not so sure:confused24:. So I either need pics from someone or maybe someone can describe which direction the flat side of the "D" should be facing on one side. Then I can do the same on the other. One more thing....I am putting the engine in SUNDAY 4/6. email me if you can or reply here. I will check before I start @2pm EDT. ..email jsmthefix@optimum.net

O.K. I figured out why my battery is showing such low voltage and then hight voltage on the dash volt meter. The back brake light is not always going off. I am trying to make heads or tails out of the manual but I can not seem to find where the switch is for the brake light. I need to know where the pedal sensor is and the grounding point for the circuit. It appears that both the handle and the pedal cause a drain on the system and the light stays on most of the time after I let off the brake. After several giggles or a few jars on the road the light goes back off. I am wondering if it is a ground issue rather than a switch. If I knew where each of the switch parts were and where the ground connection was, I could try some more troubleshooting but I can not tell from the manual. Anyone else had a similar issue?

VTX 1300 Honda Service Manual>> I went through my bookcase and found this manual for a motorcycle I no longer own. The manual if free, but I'd appreciate $10 for shipping it FedEx two day. Please email deek589 AT bellsouth.NET (not "com", it's "net") Thanks. I'm going to post this same thing on some other motorcycle forums including the VTX Owners Association if I can find my old user/password........

Does it matter what type or brand of coolant I use in my RSTD. A friend of mine tells me to use the honda coolant because it will not damage the water pump (Contains low or no silicate). Owners manual just calls for regular 50/50 coolant. What are you folks using ?? Thanks: Will

Just did the first oil change on a 87 Venture Royale that I bought this summer. I put the new filter on and in the process of cleaning up the oil drain pan afterward, found a compression spring on the bottom. Duh! No mention of the spring in the user manual or the service manual but I did find it in the parts manual that is posted elsewhere on this site. The oil filter cover is tight and doesn't leak after starting and runup, so my question is will the absence of the spring in the filter cover impede the flow of the oil through the bypasss valve assembly? Being somewhat lazy, if I don't have to drain the oil and start all over, I'm just as inclined to wait until the next oil change. Any thoughts? Thanks Ron

Some one on another forum brought it to my attention that the old owners manual, the one we have here in PDF, and the new manual the PDF on the My Star section of the Yamaha web site have different oil change intervals. The old one says every 8k, the new on says every 4k!!! But if you go to the maintenance interval PDF on the My Star site, it still says 8k.. OK, what is that real answer?

My clutch is barely engaging when pulled in completely. Looking in my manual it only tells me to have it looked at by a dealer. It's Saturday, a beautiful day in south Louisiana and I'd like to ride. It's a '03 Midnight Venture. The clutch is hydraulic. Manual suggest that it may need to be bled. Any help on how to go about this? Desperate, Potohead

Take a look at this link for a new automatic transmission Honda that was supposed to be on the market in October, don't know if it was released or not. Pretty cool idea as automatics go. It gives you too automatic modes and a 6 speed manual shift mode. http://www.webbikeworld.com/Motorcycle-news/2008-honda-motorcycles/ Also, scroll down that page and take a look at the awesome looking 6 cylinder sport bike...concept.
